Thunderbird Two was huge compared to her sister, One. But Thunderbird Three made her feel tiny.
But these sizes were all relative.
Because, while Three was undoubtably the biggest ship, Two was by far the wider.
EOS' directions for them both to set down in Conway Park was slightly problematic; and proved that the AI could get rattled. Not that John or Virgil could blame her, they were rattled too.
'EOS, please tell the local police that Three will set down in Conway Park, but Two will be landing at the Westwood Country Club. We need both areas secure.'
'FAB John.'
It wasn't that they couldn't both fit in Conway Park, it was just that Three's engines were going to do a lot of damage, and John didn't want that damage to include his brother's precious 'bird.
Mercy Hospital was 97 foot tall.
Her windows rattled and every floor shook as Thunderbird Three touched down beside her, the 287-foot rocket absolutely dwarfing the building. People looked on in awe as the bright red ship touched down in the park beside the building. For some areas all that could be seen from the windows was red metal. The sound was phenomenal. People covered their ears.
It was a sight that very few people had ever seen. In fact, John couldn't remember ever landing Three outside of her silo before. Usually, they would have flown home and then came in either another 'bird or in Tracy Two.
But with Scott so badly injured, he took precedence.
Thankfully, Brains and their dad had made sure that there was a way to exit Three if such an occurrence was to happen, and by the time they had reached the ground Two was landing across the way.
The country park where Two was landing – much to the anger of the owners and groundskeepers – was a little way away. At only 60-foot tall she couldn't be seen past the building, but they could hear her.
A police escort was waiting by both Thunderbirds. Neither pair of brothers contemplated how much it would cost to repair the damage to both parks. That simply wasn't of any importance right now.
John and Alan arrived in the hospital first, and John wasted no time in making a beeline for the admissions desk. People in the clinic waiting let him through, the blue iR uniform proclaiming an emergency just as much as the Thunderbirds did. Alan waited by the entrance for Virgil and Gordon.
The hospital was busy. Some of the rescued victims had already been brought here, and it was a hushed busyness that they all knew well. They found a corner, sat down and waited.
They didn't have too long to wait. A young doctor, obviously harried by the stressed look on his face, bustled up to them. Virgil stood up to talk to him.
'You're here for the man they brought in from the collapsed building?'
'That's right.'
'I'm very sorry to have to tell you this, but he didn't make it.'
'I-I'm sorry, what?'
'He died on the operating table.'
