Summary/Disclaimer: Time for another chapter of A Lingering Ember. Enjoy the 2000-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum, and Rooster Teeth do.
(Vale.)
He pulled her deeper into the alley. She flicked the small knife between her fingers as easily as a piece of paper, holding her other hand in his as he smiled as he looked at her.
It was then that Trivia got a better look at whom had carried her along. It was a boy, one who was nearly his age. In contrast to her pristine white shirt? He had a ragged black shirt that seemed to be still nice enough to be worn enough. A pair of white pants and white socks that blended into one another. The most striking feature was his messy black hair with streaks of blue in it. His eyes seemed to be covered by a pair of stripes of fabric.
"Are you ok?" He questioned before he tilted his head and seemed to glance at her. "I'm sorry. I heard you running. Vale… Isn't safe. People don't care about certain people." He stated as she nodded and tilted her head.
She watched him and hummed. She snapped her fingers in front of him as he glanced at her once more. He tilted his head.
"C'mon, let's go. I'll help. Those soldiers are going to be back sooner or later." He stated as he turned and slowly started to walk away.
She tapped on her scroll, unable to formulate the words properly. She held it up in front of his face, the light beaming on his face which made most people cringe from the light. He didn't react, but the second the noise of her typing came? She noticed his face contort slightly as he slowly turned to walk away from her.
'Hmm…' Neo stated before she seemed to question her options.
There was a lot more interesting as of the second. She had become a lot more disillusioned with her family, they had abandoned her, she wanted to clip her wings and rush free of there. She didn't know this boy, but she could slice him to ribbons from what little training she had gained from Aurelia. It had become a lot harder for her to question anything.
She thought of the woman who had trained her. She was a nice woman. She felt bad trying to trick and deceive her. The woman had taught her enough that she had learned to spread her wings.
"Hey, you, ok?" He questioned as he stepped closer. "I'm sorry. I didn't tell my name, did I?" He asked before he stopped in front of her.
"Hmm." Her scroll stated before she held up her scroll and typed on it. "My name is Trivia. You are a dummy. My lips do not work, dum, dum." She typed as he hummed.
"Oh, that's why you didn't say anything." He said as he sighed. "I'm sorry. Anyway? My name is Ollie Rhyt. I didn't know you can't talk. Your scroll has voice settings, yeah?" He questioned which made her tap a yes on the device.
He nodded and tapped his fingers together. She was honestly questioning what to do next. She smiled as he seemed to question what to do next. She watched as he questioned what to do next. He seemed to be interested in what she did next.
She stared at him as he glanced at her with interest. There was a look of hope towards her as of the second, curious as to what to hell do next.
She tilted her head before he started to tilt his head, not noticing her beckoning fingers. She tapped on his chin.
"You, ok?" Ollie questioned as he raised an eyebrow at her. "You're probably wondering why I'm not paying attention to what you're physically doing. Well? I'll answer that later. I can hear you just fine, I'll follow you if that's ok. Your footsteps are pretty easy to hear No offense." Ollie said which got a stomp of her and any attempt to swing at him.
He glanced up a hand up which stopped her limb stone cold. He raised an eyebrow at her with a hum as he seemed to question her, tilting his head curiously to the side before he clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth.
He rubbed at his temples as Trilla lowered her hand. She crossed her arms across his chest while he tilted his head before he glanced at the shadows surrounding him. It had been fun; he had been having fun despite his best efforts at the second.
"Are you ok? I know you probably need to type something; you can type if you want." Ollie stated before he tilted his head to the side.
He smiled to himself and sighed as Trilla hummed and leaned on her umbrella. It made her question if they were insane or simply didn't know her. They didn't seem that thrown off by her, nor did they seem to fear getting in trouble for being near her.
It was someone her father would hate… Which made him a friend to her, a good friend, one who had an idea of whom he wanted to be and what he wanted to do. She tugged at his hand, trying to pull him along with her.
He tilted his head a bit more but offered no resistance to her. He let her drag him down the alleyway. It had been odd for her to find someone here. Someone who hadn't been seen as part of society.
No, those people were criminals and people whom her father worked with, people who spit on the regular people to try and become better than they had been. They had been gutter trash who wanted to seem better than they were.
He wasn't going to be gutter trash. No, she expected him to be… Different, a lot more different than it had been as of the second. She tilted her head as of the time. Ollie didn't seem to care at the moment.
She liked that. He was different, he didn't seem to bend the same way most in this damned town did.
"I'm sorry if I said something stupid. People usually don't trust me at all. I thought you may be lost or something, it's entirely my bad if I was wrong." Ollie said which made Neo roll her eyes as she considered what the hell to tell him.
How did she find out more about him? He couldn't seem to see her and was as annoyed as she tugged him along the alleyway. She couldn't speak, she couldn't tell him why she hadn't been able to do much or why she had run.
It made her so angry that she wanted to scream, to run and kick a hole in the brick wall next to her… But it wouldn't change anything. She'd still be lost, forgotten, good for nothing more than to be trampled on by her family and treated like the trash they paraded around to thump their chests in glory.
Trivia seemed to almost beam at the attempt to learn more. She wanted to know more about her friend, about what he could do, and how powerful she attempts to see. It had been a rather hard thing to deny at the moment.
Still? There was so much to learn and do, so much to see and explore. It had been a hard time on her mind, a harder time to adapt and attempt to adjust when it came down to it. There was a lot more to partake in with enough time and effort.
She watched as he seemed to tighten something on his face which she brushed off. If he had something to hide? She'd find out eventually, she found a lot at the moment despite their best efforts. This had to end at the second. It was going to be impossible for this to end any other way than not with violence… Well, at least from what little she saw?
Her father would die, he'd pay for so much, treating her like a piece of trash that had to be controlled, contained, locked away as a threat to him and his image.
Ollie seemed to be silent as she daintily pulled him along. She watched him tilt his head to the side as if he was honestly curious as to where she was taking him, why this had come to pass in this manner.
She smiled meekly. The fact that he didn't resist was… Odd, most people who had known her had the fact that she was terrifying, a freak who only seemed to be curious about what the world could offer her.
He had been different for some reason. She wanted to know why. This had to be understood and more had to be found when it came to it.
"You still didn't tell me if you're ok. If you need your scroll to talk? I can help with charging it. I understand if you need a second to type, you know." Ollie stated before he stopped to let her catch her breath.
Trivia pulled out her scroll then and stared at it. One of the first things her father had given her was an attempt to try and bend her to his will. The battery in the far-left corner told her that it was at half charge. Another full one would probably take a half-hour or more given the type of electric dust she had in her pocket.
Still? There was a lot more that had to be done before she felt safe enough to put her feet up. She had been too tired at the second. There was a lot more to do and such.
"I'll be alright. We should keep going." Trivia stated before she tilted her head as of the second. "If there's nothing in the way? We need to go. We're going to need to be safe somewhere first, dum dum." Trivia stated before Ollie rolled his eyes and glanced around.
She said nothing for a moment on her scroll. She rested her dainty fingers on the keys while she glanced around. He let go of her hand and she started to type on her scroll for a few more seconds.
"I'll be alright, dum dum. I'm just… Tired." Her scroll stated as she turned to glance around at everyone and everything.
He tilted his head at her as she rolled her eyes. Only she could be paired up with a dum dum in a town like this. This place seemed to have a sense of humor to it, always managing to get where she wished to be.
This had to be dealt with. Her mind spun with all the new ideas, all the new things that could be done here as a result that hadn't been brought to fruition. This had to end sooner or later. It couldn't be understated that she found mirth in this place and what it offered to her and others. No, couldn't be understated at all.
She placed a hand on her temples, interested in what would come if there was any real doubt as to what was to come. This was going to be odd and she knew that better than anyone or anything.
He had been interested in what as of the second. It would be honestly a lot more curious than anything else he had been around at the time. This had to change sooner or later.
And it appeared it would.
Author Note
Phew. Another chapter is done! I want to point out that the next chapter will be in 2-10 months and such. The next chapter will be 900-6500 words and will also show more of Ollie and Neo bonding and such when it comes down to it and start to show more of their friendship when it comes down to it.
