Summary/Disclaimer: Time for another chapter of A Lingering Ember. Enjoy the 2000-word chapter. I don't own RWBY, Monty Oum, and Rooster Teeth do.
(Vale.)
"Evening, officers, is there anything…" Ollie started before a punch drove him to his knees.
Trivia gasped before one of the officers seized her arm. Ollie grunted before one of them kicked him and smashed his face into the pavement, he grunted.
'Ok, guess these are the corrupt officers who take crime bribes and not the ones I like… Well.' Ollie said before he sighed mentally and took a second to collect himself.
He turned and kicked one of the officers in the thigh, knocking him down slightly before flipping to his feet and smashing a leg into him. Trivia watched as his other arm seemed to grab something that hadn't yet been seen.
One of the officers let go of her as more seemed to emerge from the shadows. She knew it had to be done sooner or later.
She knew it was her father. Only he'd send a small army after her… Yet she wasn't surprised… Only worried for her friend.
He pulled what seemed to be a pistol from his coat and turned before he fired a shot into the leg of one of the cops. Pain and agony seemed to dance up and down his body.
He drove another punch into the office which sent them sprawling, he flicked it to the side as it transformed into a saber.
"Let Trivia go," Ollie said as he clutched his punched arm before he glanced at them.
"Can't, her dad is paying us a boatload of lien to take her back to him, freak." Ollie heard from one of the officers as they raised their guns toward her. "Now, why don't you be a good little rat and let her come with us?" The officer asked as Ollie shook his head, not about to let his new friend go with criminals who would only sell her back to her father.
The officer sighed and motioned for the others to deal with the pest. Ollie was not going to stop them from getting their money, not even if he had a damn gun pointed at them.
Ollie sighed and looked at Trivia who seemed to be closing her eyes and barely glancing at the officers.
He sighed before he shot forward with speed that was far too little for someone who had been a mere homeless kid. It had made him chuckle to see the shocked looks on their faces as he barred his fists at them.
He slammed into one of them, sending them barreling to the floor as he did so. It gave Neo enough time to slam a leg into the officer holding them and then smash them both into the wall behind them as she hummed, interested in what was to come as they fought one another.
He caught another punch to the face which made his aura spark green as he slammed the man into the wall and swept his legs out with a sweeping kick. They faced the half dozen new cops as Trivia held up her umbrella towards them.
"Go, I'll hold them off for you." Trivia heard from Ollie as his bad arm seemed to hand limply from his side.
Trivia tapped on his nose and shook her head. No, her father wasn't going to take ANOTHER thing she cherished and destroy it. not while she still lived, not while she still drew breath and still was able to fight and defend herself and others.
Oh, would her father pay and pay slow and painfully as she considered it. There were so many ways he could pay and would if given the chance and she so wanted to be there when the man keeled over and died, it was entirely what he deserved for what he had done to her as of this time and this second, it would come hard and slowly if she had her way, this was just going to take it sooner or later when it came down to it.
One of the cops drew his gun as the others stared at him in confusion and disbelief at his stupidity and the sheer idea that he could be as stupid as he appeared to be. They wanted to shoot him and leave his corpse to rot and fester for this insanity.
They had been hired to do something and here was this fool who was putting their very paycheck at risk? They had to correct that before it ended their lives and what little pay, they had been offered by their master.
One of them turned to shoot the cop as the two turned and retreated into the shadows. This didn't go unnoticed by the cops as they wished to be at the moment. It had been something they wished to be. Still? It had been something that had to be dealt with and would be if given enough time and effort to properly deal with the issue at hand on their own time. it had to be done sooner or later as now.
There was a lot more on the line if they failed, a lot more they couldn't simply ponder nor wish to ponder. Ollie felt Trivia grip his hand and tug him along, interested in what was to come should come if something appeared.
Still? There was a lot more on the line if they failed, she wouldn't let them. It'd be a lot more on the second before this came down to it. He trusted her before this ended the second. He sighed to himself before he tilted his head. He cracked his fingers before he smiled.
"You got this, don't you?" Ollie questioned which was given a nod from them as he hummed. "Ok, I'll let you handle it when it comes down to it, just don't do something crazy when it comes down to it. We need to get back to the city before they find us." Ollie stated before he sighed to himself.
There was more time on the second. This had to end sooner or later. It was going to be something crazy and honestly? He kinda wanted to understand what she was doing to try and handle this if he was entirely honest to himself.
He smiled to himself and clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth, feeling as if he was more and more eager for some action. He sighed himself before he looked around before he glanced around.
Trivia felt her eyes glow pink as she vanished, she had never used it on two people, not like this. Still? It'd be fun, she wanted to test herself and her father had yet to ever let it come down to it. He hummed before he looked before the second as of this time. It had been a lot harder to do than when it came down to it.
There was a crystal-like crack in the air as she dragged before she hummed. She dragged before he hummed and into the next air before he raised an eyebrow before this seemed to handle as of the second.
Still? She was honestly curious as of the second. What had made him trust her when this ended? She wanted to understand what had made him trust her before this happened.
She dragged him through the illusion and into the shadows as they found it to be harder to navigate when it came down to it. She sighed to herself which was the best of her ability to speak.
She heard the sounds of boots behind them as Ollie seemed to take control before pulling them both into an alleyway. The boots stomped away before the cops passed both of them.
Ollie stared at her before lowering his head to the ground. There was something that seemed as if she had been surprised.
He nodded towards her before he slowly lowered his head towards the woman. She said nothing while he crossed her arms. He placed the weapon from before in some sort of place on the robes that he had, curious as to what was happening to make her like this. It had been something that vexed him, but he said nothing. He simply crossed his arms over his chest before long. There was more on the line than this.
"I think you owe me an answer," Ollie said before he put a hand on his leg. "Ow. That hurt a bit more than I expected it to as of the second…. Now, tell me why you have an army of crooked cops after you. I might fight them off, but I ain't fighting without a good reason to. Your dad some kind of crime lord or something?" Ollie asked while he glanced the way of the cops, angling his ears towards the sound.
Trivia hummed before she glanced at Ollie. She wasn't used to having friends, to knowing someone didn't hate her or see her as trash. This had caught her off guard before long.
She noticed something in the air. A faint glimmer of something told her that she didn't need to face this. A sign she was very familiar with when it came down to it. Yet? She had been surprised by the idea as of now and it was… Something.
Neo. It was Neo. The girl nodded towards Ollie, giving her a thumbs up that she questioned. She could trust him. She brought up her scroll and started to type on it while glancing down and into the streets around her.
"Those people work for my father. He wants me back." Trivia typed before she hummed to herself before she hummed. "My father is a councilman." Trivia typed to which Ollie nodded.
He frowned and tilted his head to the side. She could see the surprise on his face before she started to frown and glance to the side. There had been a lot more than he hadn't yet noted as of the time. it'd be a lot more curious when it came down to it. she hummed to herself before she clicked her fingers together.
"Then that's what happened. I'm surprised you didn't tell me before." Ollie said before he sighed as he looked to the side. "No, that's stupid for me to say. We've only known each other for maybe 2 hours, maybe a little less, and here I am acting like we've been friends for almost 20 years or something." Ollie said before he looked down the alleyway.
There had been a look of interest on his face. He knew that she was doing something odd when it came down to it. there was more to this when it came down to it. still? he wanted to know more, and the only way he'd find that out would be if he had time to ask and question her fairly.
"C'mon, we need to get out of here before more come… And if you're going to fight? You're going to need a better weapon." Ollie said before he ran a hand down his temples.
Trivia blinked as she watched the boy slowly start to drag her forward. It had been something she hadn't expected. She hadn't at all expected before she hummed to herself.
"Are you shocked?" Ollie questioned while he raised an eyebrow at her. "What? Expected me to treat you like trash? I'm not exactly much better than you unless you're a bad fighter. I'm the one who should be a bit more annoyed when it comes down to it." Ollie said while he cracked his fingers.
Trivia stayed silent. Only curious as of the time being. This was to be something odd that couldn't yet be ended before now.
Author Note
Phew. Another chapter is done! I want to point out that the next chapter will be longer and show more of Neo and Ollie's bonding when it comes down to it. The next chapter will be in 2-10 months and will be 900-6500 words as of the second. Until then, Lighting Wolf out!
