The next day, Sam is getting ready to leave for Woodsboro with Tara to visit her mother for Thanksgiving. As she prepares some suitcases, she receives a phone call and picks up.
"Hello?" she says.
"Hello, am I talking to Samantha Carpenter?" says the voice.
"Yes. Who is this?"
"Ms. Carpenter, I am Corporal Stephen Jackson of the San Francisco Police Department. I regret having to inform you that your boyfriend John Smithers was killed last night at his home".
"What? How?" Samantha replies, so shocked that she nearly falls to the floor.
"We do not know. Our criminal investigators are still on the scene, but we need you to come here right away. Samantha nearly drops the phone as Tara comes in, asking:
"What's going on, Sam?" She looks very concerned at seeing her sister's face.
"John was killed, Tara. Last night. We have to go" Samantha and Tara get into their car and drive away as fast as they can towards the crime scene.
"We found him just like that, with this threatening note next to him" explained Corporal Jackson to a baffled Samantha. It looks like someone is after you and your family, Ms. Carpenter, so I'm afraid we're going to have to place you under police protection. We cannot take any risks of having another killer coming after you guys.
"But we were planning to travel to Woodsboro for the holidays" Samantha says. And what about Tara?
"She'll have to be protected as well. We have put up a whole security plan with the police chief. If you travel outside of town, you'll have to be accompanied at all times by at least four police officers who will escort you in unmarked cars.
"Thank you officer, we really appreciate your support" said Samantha.
"Don't mention it, we are here to help. Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any trouble.
Samantha and Tara exit the house, get into their car, and drive off, surrounded by two unmarked police cruisers with emergency lights flashing. In the distance, a mysterious individual dressed in Ghostface costume is seen observing the convoy leaving the house while sharpening his knife.
Note: I will be uploading the next chapter as soon as possible, but it might take a few days or up to a week due to real-life commitments. Also, this story's focus will mostly be on Casey Becker's family after the original Scream movie and not on the Carpenters sisters, who will be the focus of another story later on.
