~ LIX: Arwen ~
Young she was and yet not so. The braids of her dark hair were touched by no frost, her white arms and clear face were flawless and smooth, and the light of stars was in her bright eyes, grey as a cloudless night; yet queenly she looked and thought and knowledge were in her glance, as of one who has known many things that the years bring. —The Fellowship of the Ring, "Many Meetings"
Imladris, 3019 TA, March 5
Arwen, fairest of the Children of Ilúvatar, resembled Lúthien of the First Age who would never again appear in Middle-earth. The younger sister of Elladan and Elrohir. The name 'Ar-wen' meant 'Noble Maiden'. She lived most of her life on her homestead in Imladris or Lothlórien with her grandparents. Lady Galadriel of Lórien was her grandmother. Her mother inherited the Elfstone. As a Half-Elf, she shared the right of her father to choose her fate. The time has arrived for the Evenstar to decide her fate.
Elrond heaved a sigh as he ran his free hand over his face and temporarily allowed his eyes to shut, relishing the feeling of his mind drifting far from his task. A few days before, he had a heart-to-heart with his eldest daughter, requesting her to sail to Valinor. The increasing and intensifying darkness was gradually forcing her to slip away. He was able to see one of his daughters staying behind, but not Arwen. After lengthy deliberation, she consented to flee Middle-earth.
Arwen was seated on her horse. Her face and torso were covered by a blue velvet cloak with a hood. Then, in the distance, she saw a little boy with a white shirt sprinting past the elves. The youngster seemed to be known. His father soon afterwards came. A guy with grey hair who resembled Aragorn. He rushed toward the child. Aragorn scooped him up and spun him around in his arms. They seemed content. The youngster regarded Arwen. She then saw that he was wearing her Evenstar jewellery. A single tear ran down her face.
Today, though, Arwen returned to Imladris and chose to stay. Because she has predicted the birth of her firstborn son, whom her marriage with Aragorn would produce. How could she abandon her kid and her faith? Indeed, darkness was descending across the countries, and the Dark Lord was becoming stronger, but would she capitulate like a coward? She had returned and informed her father that she would continue to reside in Middle-earth beside Aragorn.
After returning to Imladris Arwen approached Elrond and asked him "Tell me what you have seen!?"
Elrond was taken back when he noted that Arwen had returned, lost was he in his lack of thought that, even if he heard it, Elrond did not register that Arwen spoke to him. She had to repeat her question for him to answer. "Arwen! I looked into your future and I saw death," he said. And his daughter sighed and gazed at him questioning his answer.
"But there was also life. You saw there was a child. You saw my son." Arwen asked in earnest. All those centuries that had passed and his daughter had not changed. He recalled when she was questioning him about his mother, and her younger sister. The twins were always accepting his answers but not Arwen. She had also the gift of foresight and she was able to see through him.
"But that future is almost gone." her father turned away from her.
"But it is not lost!" she said with a softer tone.
"Nothing is certain," he added.
Arwen knelt before Elrond. Her soft hands resting on her lap. "Some things are certain! If I leave him now, I will regret it forever. It is time." she said "It's time... From the ashes, a fire shall be woken... light from the shadows shall spring... Renewed shall be blade that was broken. The crownless again shall be King"
Rarely did human lifespans reach hundred years. Aragorn may live longer because of his Dúnedain heritage. It was not, however, immortality. Lord Elrond did not want such a destiny for Arwen. How was it possible to choose a mortal existence when eternity was available? However, the solution was simple. Arwen chose mortal existence with her beloved over immortality and solitude. She was surrounded by her father, brothers, relatives, and friends. However, Aragorn was her response to all questions. She never had any self-doubt. Even when Aragorn stepped aside and let her go with her own people. Even then, she knew exactly what she wanted. And she knew just how to assist Aragorn. As a Queen would assist her King.
Until her body quit functioning and her spirit was delivered to the Grey Havens, her deadly affections for the Ranger were unable to cease. She understood that they were ingrained in her elven spirit and that their love would continue. Even in these sad days, while the War of the Ring was still raging, the Fellowship of the Ring persevered. Underneath it all, her love for him kept her thoughts falling into the muck of the gloom that was growing around them. She was aware that Aragorn would become king and that she should be at his side. However, even if he had declined to become King. Arwen would remain loyal to him.
However, the darkness of Sauron forced her to faint gradually. Her integrity was intact. This darkness was like an invisible, silent murderer. Like an agony that was insurmountable, insurmountable, and never to be comprehended. Though, the sense of hopelessness and lack of bravery had never disappeared. She made a commitment that was stronger than any solemn pledge.
"Reforge this Sword… Adar" [Father] Arwen said. "Take the sword to Aragorn he will need it."
"Your hands are cold. The life of the Eldar is leaving you," he said worriedly. Watching his child die even if it's more than 2700 years old can still cause grief.
"This was my choice. Adar" [Father], whether by your will or not, there is no ship now that can bear me hence." she concluded.
The Narsil of Narsil was finally forged in Imladris. It was time for the King to return. This time Elrond decided to ride out and find Aragorn, to give him the sword. But deep down he had one more reason he wanted to ride. He was worried about her. He knew that she was still alive, he had seen it in a dream. But he was worried about her.
Once, he had left her to save her life. He consented to her travelling to another dimension, knowing he would never see her again. However, she would be living. However, Eru showed compassion and sent her back to him. His youngest daughter was now battling evil in Middle Earth. But until now, he had decided to withhold the truth from her.
She was indeed powerful, much stronger than Arwen, and could endure anything thrown her. But Elrond required that she take her time to get acquainted with Middle-earth and its inhabitants. He hoped she would return to Imladris if they lived and the darkness is extinguished. Spending time with him and her siblings helped her find her place in life. He understood that he could not compel her to acknowledge that she was his youngest daughter and that she was destined to reside in Middle-earth.
