~ LXXXVIII: Escorting Arwen ~

Caras Galadhon, 3019 TA, April 21st - May 1st

Lothlórien was the land of the Golden Trees, and all who lived there were blessed with tranquilly and harmony. Since the beginning, trees have existed, but it was only elves that could converse with them and nature. And the trees of Lothlórien were unique and old; they were acquainted with the elves and encouraged them to create towns in their tops.

All the visitors staying in Lothlórien had free time, time to roam among the Mallorn-trees and be enchanted by the golden forest and its coordinated natural noises. It seemed that the adventurers were avoiding one another since they had spent time speaking and dining beneath the stars. However, whenever they could avoid crossing paths, they did so.

Galadriel had attempted to provide as much information as possible about her family in her conversations with Xena. She had a remarkable ability to make her listen for hours, and the obstinate warrior met with her and Celeborn often. Initially, it was strange for her to recognise them as her grandparents, but as she grew better acquainted with them, she realised that she could not murder them.

Elladan approached her by issuing many duel challenges. It was evident that Xena avoided them and did not like to discuss the fact that they were siblings. However, there are occasions when a few things do not need explanation but rather demonstration. Slashing swords on Lothlórien's grounds made both parties feel at ease, and any awkwardness quickly disappeared.

"I hope, I'm not late Elladan?" Xena said that she approached him from the north while holding her sword in her right hand and seeming somewhat irritated since her armour was not prepared and she was forced to battle him in robes and gowns.

"You are just in time Xena. Did you find the northern regions easy? "He questioned her while giving her a quick look. Elladan took a time to observe her and found that her hair and eye colour were identical to his own. He wished to talk to his younger sister as an older brother and treat her like Arwen. However, Galadriel and Elrond assembled the group and advised taking it easy with her.

"Easier than you would think," Xena said. "I have various skills"

Elladan nodded in agreement and said, "Then would you mind demonstrating one of your talents?"

"Sword?" she inquired, displaying her weapon, to which her brother nodded and drew his own.

Elladan exhibited amusement "This will not be simple. If you lose, you must accept a day spent with Arwen!"

Xena reasoned that, of course, there would be a strategy behind the tricky's elf battle. "Fair enough, but if you lose, you must keep quiet on the journey back to Gondor," was the reward she demanded if she were to win the fight, and the elf agreed. Metal slammed against metal on both sides of the conflict in quick succession, and the battle began. The combat went longer than anybody anticipated, and Elladan emerged victorious.

This resulted in Xena spending the following day with Arwen. Her heart throbbed with strange anguish, and she was hurting from being too near to Arwen, who was meant to be her sister. However, Arwen had a special ability to win over others. And she had earned Xena's esteem since their meeting in Rivendell. And despite Xena's efforts to avoid familiarity with her, they end up becoming closer.

Arwen discussed her anxieties about attending the coronation and meeting Aragorn after such a long time. Although they were in love and Arwen had already pledged to remain with Estel, she was still concerned about making her presence known. Now Estel would be king, not the ranger who previously inhabited their halls. She shared with Xena her heartfelt regret for her father and her decision to live a mortal life.

She quickly understood that even elves have fears and experience anxiety. They conversed all day, and by evening, Xena thought her to be wise as well. Now she realised that Arwen was really elderly. There was a pearl of knowledge that Xena lacked. Arwen was in tune with the trees and nature around her, and when she realised this, she was both frightened and envious.

Elrohir made things simpler since he did just what his father and grandma warned him about. He just approached Xena and informed her, whether she liked it or not, that she was his sister. He would treat her accordingly. If she had an issue with that, it would be her problem, not his. Ultimately, Xena laughed at his ridiculous and at the same time serious attitude. And for this reason, conversing with Elrohir was simpler than for any other.

Elrond had decided not to remain away and give her the time she needed. It was not an easy decision but a fair one. He would wait until his younger daughter would be ready and she would be the one to come to him. Rushing her through things would not aid anyone. And thankfully he had not to find out about her unlady nights with Legolas. Well, both were lucky, Legolas as well as Xena.

Since they shared a room, Legolas saw her mostly at night. A known fact that nobody dared to speak on. Mirkwood Prince preferred to spend his time immersed in nature while attempting to manage his own concerns. His desire to pursue Uagz never subsided. He had planned several times how he would locate and catch him. Numerous times, he had dreamt of the moment when his sword would sever him, which gave him a false sense of security.

The departure date was rapidly approaching, and preparations had begun. Few were arranging the discrepancies and determining the quickest route back to Minas Tirith. For his security, Rúmil of Lórien and his troops would accompany them to the White City. The twins, Legolas and Xena, had joined the preparation days and offered the troops their assistance.

Galadriel and Arwen were preparing the gowns, accessories, and circles that they and their family members would wear. They were required to adhere to a dress code in order to attend the coronation of Estel, and they had to prepare the finest materials and textures. Xena was ultimately pulled along to find a dress as well. Those hours were the worst of her life, and she never wanted to see a gown again.

At the conclusion of the week, Caras Galadhon descended into pandemonium. The soldiers were loading gare and preparing the horses, while the maidens were filling trunks with the costumes and attires they would wear on the day of the coronation. Small elements were overlooked and corrected at the last minute. Everyone would attend the coronation, and the quantity of apparel they prepared was sufficient to outfit more individuals than would attend.

In the end, several unrelated maidens seemed to follow. Aeariel was the first, but at least she was Arwen's relative. The insane aunt of Arwen could not have missed the coronation of her favourite niece's consort. And naturally, she could not resist irritating Xena by pointing out that they were now family. "In the end, it was you who seduced the prince; I should have known back then that you were kin," she had repeatedly scolded Xena; if Elladan hadn't intervened, she would have hit her.

The only positive news Xena received was that her armour is now complete. Aegnor had crafted leather armour identical to her last one. Only the leather and colours were of a higher grade. The difference was that the skirt was a little longer and the lining had short leggings to provide warmth and a modicum of decency for the lady. Xena was so grateful to him that she hugged him.

Arwen and around forty elves left Lothlórien to accompany her to Minas Tirith. They travelled for days through a golden forest, gloomy woodlands, mountains, and rivers. Each day, her family and friends drew closer to Minas Tirith, where they would finally see Aragorn after such a long separation. She would sometimes gaze at the road ahead and wish they could go quicker.

They met paths with a couple of groups of orcs on many occasions, and each time the encounter was brief, leaving the orcs dead and them filthy. Whenever they opted to camp, stories and songs were shared. Xena's experience travelling only with elves was unique. On the trip, the lord of Imalrdis and the lords of Lothlórien did not talk. Xena was perplexed as to why there was so much stillness on their side. However, they were mostly studying the altered state of the world they formerly knew.

On May 1st, they arrived at the city's gates, and Arwen can finally breathe freely. She had waited so long for this moment, and all her wishes came true. She knew he would succeed him as king of Gondor, and that she would become his queen. And everyone who knew about their connection secretly desired it. She had remained faithful to him, as had Estel.

The task was not, however, completed. They had to slip inside Minas Tirith's halls without Aragorn noticing. It was intended to be unexpected. Because of this, Legolas had come sooner and discovered Gimli. Now, the dwarf was required to keep the King away from all windows and news. After all, so many visitors were coming that it was hard to see the elves. If only someone were to scrutinise the crowd more closely.

Even though Aragorn grew up with elves, it would not take him long to recognise that there were elves among the newcomers. Gimli became weary of trying to persuade him to stop pacing around the halls like a ghost. Aragorn refused obstinately, so Gimli struck him with the back of his axe, forcing him to sleep for the remainder of the day.

When he awoke the next morning, he would not have time to see the visitors since he had to prepare for his coronation. The visitors, including elves, lords of Rohan, hobbits, and many more, were also settled in. Lace and silk materials adorned the majority of the rooms as everyone began to prepare. Velvet and velour were added to each area to complement the attires that the ladies and lords were preparing to don.

The day of the coronation had finally come...
