Ruby and Summer talked through the day, Summer asking many questions and Ruby answering all of them diligently, Ruby ended up telling her mother about most of her life, from the moment she died up until the moment she got a job at shade. By the time summer had gotten to asking about what Ruby was doing nowadays, and her plan to beat Salem, it was well into the afternoon.
"So after we met and you went back to shade, that was three years ago, what have you been doing since?"
Ruby chuckled, "Well about that, see you remember Torchwick's sidekick?"
"The girl named after the ice cream right?" Summer replied
"Yeah... I kind of, found her? Well when I found her, I expected her to be yknow, an adult? Nah, she was 5... living on the streets of Vacuo."
Summer gasped and Ruby said, "Hehe yeah, that's what I thought too, So at the time, i though oh well, I'll just take her to shade and get her fixed up and put into foster care... uh well. That didn't end up happening."
Ruby pulled out her scroll and shot off a text. Then Ruby changed the subject for a while, "So in the meantime, while we wait for that, lets talk about Salem, k?"
Summer cave a curious look but nodded anyways, "okay, from the sounds of it, you know about Salem's plans, you know about how she operates, why haven't you killed her yet?"
Ruby sighed and nodded, "All true, I know how Salem operates, I know her plans... but I don't know where she is, and I don't know who she has loyal to her... You have to understand, I fought Salem a decade from now, If I was back then, I could have very well just found Cinder and trailed her back to wherever Salem lives, and killed the witch... but I have no clue if Cinder is even on Salem's side yet, the Only person I can be sure is on Salem's team is Tyrian."
"Tyrian... That's the scorpion faunus I fought... The one that killed me."
Ruby gave a grim smile, "Yeah..."
Then the two were shaken out of their stupor with a knock on the door to the small room they were in, walking over to the door and opening it, Ruby was immediately hugged by the small figure on the other side. In the midst of the hug the little girl looked up to meet Ruby's eyes and smiled, "Hi Mom!"
Ruby chuckled and turned to Summer, "Neo, Meet your Grandmother, Mom, this is Neo, My adopted daughter."
Summer stared at Ruby, looking back and forth between the two, she sighed, "I'm a Grandma? My kids are 8 and 5, yet my youngest is apparently also 21, and my granddaughter is how old?"
"I'm 8" Neo said, dislodging her self from her mother's cloak, she walked over to Summer's bedside. Which she barely had enough height to see over, and looked at what her mom said was a grandmother, she looked back to her mom with a tilted head and said, "Aren't grand-people supposed to be really old?"
Summer let out a laugh, a nice hearty laugh, and said. "I look good for my age."
Neo narrowed her eyes in a manner that said 'I don't believe you' but nodded anyways, "Nice to meet you grandma, I'm Neo." She said while holding out a hand and looking back to her mom for approval, Ruby nodded her head, and Neo's face broke out into a big smile. Looking back to Summer, she held her hand up to her, and summer shook it, "Its nice to meet you Neo, I'm Summer, but you can call me Grandma, or Granny, or whatever you pick."
"Hmmm, I like Granny, but I think I'll call you Granny Summer, that way I'm used to saying your name, and I don't let it slip that you're my grandma."
Summer blinked, "Why would that be?"
Neo just gave an incredulous look to Summer, "My mom's name is Ruby Rose, but she goes by Aurum Lazuli, My name is Neopolitan Rose Lazuli, My mom told me not to call her Ruby in public, or to mention the rose parts of our names. Is your last name Rose?"
Summer nodded and said, "You're very smart for an 8 year old."
Neo gave a big smile, "Miss Rumpole says I'm a quick learner... also I might be 9, I have no idea when I was born."
"Anyways Neo, its nice to meet you. I wish I wasn't on a hospital bed so I could hug you because of how cute you are."
"Hey kiddo, show her what I got you for your 8th birthday."
Neo started a bit at her mother's voice, but reached around her head and pulled her hood up, letting her cloak fall around her.
Summer looked on with stars in her eyes, as Neo showed her the cloak her mom had gotten her. Summer gave a chuckle, "You know, Ruby was just like this when I gave her own cloak to her, she was showing it all excitedly to everyone she could. 'Wow I'm just like mommy look guys' it was adorable."
It was at this point that Neo noticed that Summer too was wearing a cloak. "Wooaah, you have a cool cloak too?"
Summer laughed, "Yep, just like your mother. You know I actually gave her first cloak to her, it was a big red one, one that would fit her once she grew up."
Neo gasped, and turned to her mom, "You got given a cloak that was too big for you too!?"
Both the adults laughed, and Ruby turned to Summer, "I gave her a cloak that would fit her when she grows up, just like you did to me. I even showed her how to tie it around her shoulders so it didn't drag. You should've seen her, she had a big pouty face and huge puppy eyes once she realized it was too big for her."
Neo gave puppy eyes again, and looked to her mom, "Mooom stop you're embarrassing me."
Ruby chuckled, "She's your grandma, she's entitled to know all of your embarrassing stories, she knows all of mine."
The Trio spent the rest of the afternoon talking and sharing stories. Then once the day was over Ruby and Neo retreated to their apartment.
HORIZONTAL LINE
Over the next couple years, The three would find almost any excuse to spend time with each other, either by Summer and Aurum taking missions together, or Ruby and Neo visiting Vale for the holidays. Either way, they kept in touch the whole time.
Then, after 3 years, on Neo's 11th birthday, her mom said the words she had been waiting for since she was 7, "Okay Neo, you're old enough now, are you ready to learn how to fight?"
Neo's eyes lit up like stars. "Really!? I can learn Now!?"
Ruby laughed, "Yeah, I'll teach you how to kill monster's and be a hero like the world has never seen"
Neo let out a cheer and Ruby asked her daughter, "Okay, now do you want to learn how to fight with a Scythe, or do you want to learn some other style of combat... Keep in mind that I don't know how to fight with anything other than a Scythe and my hands."
Neo gave the decision some thought, but not much. "I want to lean how to use a scythe and a short sword, and I want to learn how to shoot. Oh and grappling."
Ruby gave Neo a look, "How long have you had your mind made up about that?"
Neo scratched the back of her need sheepishly, "Since I met Granny Summer."
Ruby shook her head, "Ok kiddo, I'll teach you Shooting and Scythe work, and Rumpole will teach you Grappling, other than that, I think Sino might be willing to teach you swordplay. But you'll have to pay attention, I may work with the guy, but I don't really talk to him more than necessary."
Neo rapidly nodded her head, "Okay Mom, I swear I wont mess up your working relationships. Now when do we start?"
Ruby laughed and replied, "We'll start tomorrow, but first, I'll have to ask Xanthe about teaching you, and convince Sino as well."
Neo gave a cheer, and hugged her mother.
**
Hey Everybody, Sorry I've been Quiet these last few chapters, But I feel me promising something is not the same as me doing it. So I decided to just work on chapters every morning before work. And get them out to progress the story. Now this is gonna be a slight problem, because I'm leaving town Thursday night and I wont be back until the 2nd, so don't expect daily chapters during those days. Because I Physically wont be able to write, because I'm leaving my computer at home. But rest assured that on the 3rd you will see a return, and I'll probably even reward you guys with a big chapter.
My schedule for the meantime, and afterwards, will be a chapter Everyday before 11 EST, except Sundays.
