Disclaimer! I do not own Bungou Stray Dogs. The characters are owned by Kafka Asagiri and illustrated by Sango Harukawa. The only things I own are my storyline and OC's. I am not making money off of this story, nor do I plan to.

This story takes place sometime after season 3 of the anime. This can be seen as canon divergence as I do not follow the manga nor the light novels.

…...

Chuuya let out a low whistle at Charlie's theory that she set up on the whiteboard in Chuuya's office.

"You've really done your homework." He commented, and she shrugged,

"The quicker I can get this case closed, the quicker I can get a full night's sleep." She replied and stepped back to look at what she had put together.

Washington Irving had a connection to every victim thus far. He had worked with every victim on separate missions, yet all the missions had failed. Could that have been the motive? He had gone missing after the latest mission with Ichabod Crane. No one had been able to track him down since then. The murders had started a month later.

If she was right, Washington Irving had murdered at least six people, and if she was right, he was going to murder more. In addition, there was an entire list of men and women who worked with Irving, and those missions had failed to varying degrees. So if the past victims were consistent, those with failed missions working with Irving now had targets on their backs.

Everything went wrong not even an hour later.

Chuuya was in the process of putting together the rest of Charlie's theory to present it to Mori when Rudyard Kipling descended through the ceiling, looking very upset.

"Have you made any progress on my case?" He demanded, but Charlie didn't answer. She couldn't, not with Chuuya in the room. This didn't make Rudyard any happier; if anything, he got more and more upset. His ghostly form started to flicker with anger, and his face began to elongate and change. His eyes blackened and sunk into his face, his mouth opening and teeth sharpening into fangs. Charlie quickly averted her eyes; she didn't want to see what he turned into.

That was the mistake.

Rudyard let out a scream that shattered the lights, and their papers started flying. She vaguely heard Chuuya let out a string of curses as his documents exploded in his face as Rudyard charged Charlie. His ghostly fingers were freezing against Charlie's sweater as they wrapped around her neck and lifted her against the wall.

She heard a shout as Chuuya saw her raised against the wall by—what it looked like to him—an unseen force. Papers were still flying everywhere, and she saw the windows crack. They'd be sucked out into the open air if they shattered, especially if they were this high up.

There was the scrambling of shoes as Chuuya made his way towards her, where she was scrabbling against the wall against Rudyard's hold.

"What's going on?!" He demanded as Rudyard screamed,

"SOLVE MY CASE, OR YOU'RE DEAD!"

Chuuya stumbled as the windows shattered, and the wind started to whip through the office, papers flying everywhere. A red outline surrounded his body, and the floor cracked as he activated his ability so he could stay on his feet. Charlie's vision started to blacken as Rudyard's fingers squeezed harder and tighter. She couldn't breathe; her fingers clutched uselessly at his ghostly arms, mouth open as she gasped for breath.

"What the hell is going on?!" Chuuya shouted over the wind, and Charlie gasped,

"My ability. Haywire." That was all she managed to get out before she managed to get ahold of Rudyard's collar of his shirt.

"What are you going to do, wench? You are powerless against me!" He snarled, and Charlie managed a tight smile,

"I might be, but he's not." She wheezed and poured her remaining concentration into her fingertips.

"Haunted Man and the Ghost's Bargain: To Be Read at Dusk!" She managed over the wind, and Rudyard's form flickered, and she heard Chuuya shout in surprise as the ghost abruptly appeared into his realm of sight.

"What the f- What is that?!" Rudyard suddenly dropped Charlie and charged Chuuuya, face elongating as if he meant to swallow Chuuya whole.

Charlie couldn't keep her eyes open; the last thing she saw before losing consciousness was Rudyard descending on Chuuya.

Charlie opened her eyes to a tiled ceiling.

Where was she?

A hospital?

A glance to the side, and she saw a heart monitor in her peripheral vision. It was beeping steadily, showing her vital signs as slightly elevated but overall normal. So she was in a hospital.

With a groan, she tried to shift but found something obstructing her neck. Reaching up, she brushed against hard plastic,

"Don't touch it." Then came a familiar voice, and soon Chuuya appeared in her vision, a stack of crumpled papers in his hands and a disgruntled look on his face. He looked pissed as he took a seat next to her bed, shoulders tense as he pulled the chair from the wall to his side.

Charlie struggled to find the button to help move her bed into a sitting position so Chuuya did that for her. A nurse briefly entered and took her vitals, apparently, everything had been discussed with Chuuya already and the doctor would be in soon to discuss it with her. As soon as the nurse left, Chuuya turned his attention back to Charlie.

"So. Your ability. What is it?" He demanded and Charlie knew by the tone of his voice that he wasn't going to take nothing for an answer.
