Shanks knocked on the door to Benn's house, hoping the man was home. He was close by with Roger and wanted to see if the man had some spare time. He was rarely at home, having some work related things he did off the island a lot. But, he was feeling lucky. He liked Benn, he was a good friend. He didn't have many friends off the boat, or he didn't have any friends aside from Benn off the ship. It took a minute, but the door soon opened and Benn stood there. "Shanks. What brings you here?" Shanks smiled. "Was close by. We're here to restock a few things, and wanted to see if you were home." Benn nodded. "That's nice. Come in." Benn took a half step to the side, to invite him in. He hadn't been in Benn's house for a long time. He had met Benn when they restocked here a few years back, and he had always liked the man. They had met now and then while they traveled, and it was always nice. When he got inside, he walked to the living room, but halted when he heard a wooden clang, turning wound to see Benn leaning on a cane as he walked. Shanks blinked. "What happened to your leg?" Benn hummed. "Stepped wrong. It's nothing." Shanks nodded, that didn't sound like Benn, but he accepted it for now.
He then sat and spoke with Benn, helping him gather some coffee for them. He had the day off from the boat, so he had the time. As they were sitting and speaking, Benn reached for some sugar, but as he did, he saw something on the back of his arm, making him blink. "Benn, your arm, you're bleeding." Benn blinked, before he turned his arm around, seeing his shirt had a bloodstain, what was only growing bigger. Benn sighed. "I got a small wound, let me just change my shirt and bandages. Be right back." Shanks nodded, that was an explanation, not really a good one, but he should try and accept it. But, after a minute, he got impatient and headed after where Benn had headed, finding a bathroom it looked like, Benn inside it, and when he saw Benn, he halted in his steps and blinked. He only saw Benn's back, or he saw him from half sideways, so Benn couldn't see him from the reflection in the mirror. But as he saw Benn's back, it was littered in scars, some new, but many old. Even seeing 2 brands upon it. He also saw the arm Benn had been bleeding on, and it wasn't a small wound, it was quite large and deep, and Benn was doing his best to re-dress it alone, having some minor issues. It had Shanks move over, wanting to help. It had Benn frown."I can do this alone." Shanks shook his head. "Don't care. Let me help!" Benn sighed. "Fine." Benn then let him help cover the wound, using a thicker bandage this time he said, so it wouldn't bleed through as fast.
When it was dressed, and Benn took on a new sweater, Shanks crossed his hands. "What was that? Why do you have so many scars!" Benn sighed. "Let it go." Shanks shook his head. "No! I want- need- to know! What happened to you!?" His first thought was that Benn was in trouble, and if he was, he could help. If it were issues with the island, Roger could help as well, as he liked this island and wanted everyone to be fine. Benn sighed. "Fine. But if I tell you, you can't tell anyone. Not your friends, not your crew, not your captain." Shanks blinked. It had to be bad then. But could he promise that? If there were issues on the island, Roger could help. But also, he liked Benn, and wouldn't want to lose him now. He would hear what it was, then take it from there. Benn gave a stern look. "Promise me, you won't tell." Shanks blinked, before he nodded. "I promise." Benn kept the stern look. "Do know, if you break that trust, we can never be friends again." That he knew, and hoped it wouldn't come to that. "I know." Benn sighed. "Know I tell you this since I do trust you." Shanks nodded and Benn continued. "I am an assassin. That's why I'm injured, I had an assignment which went foul." Shanks blinked. An assassin? Could he believe that? "You're an assassin?" Benn nodded. "I am." Shanks tried to take this in. "Wha- how- what is your name? Do you have one?" Benn sighed. "I am Silvershadow." Shanks blinked. Benn was Silvershadow? He had heard about him,he was an amazing assassin. "You're- you're really Silvershadow?" Benn nodded. "I am. I have been doing it for years now." That he would now, Silvershadow had been around for long.
Shanks tried to think. "I just- how can I believe that? You say you don't want to travel." Benn nodded. "I don't. I want to help people. And, I can do it like this, as Silvershadow." That was true, he was an assassin who helped those who needed it. "I just- how can I know this is true?" Benn hummed. Moving away to a closet. "Just because I do trust you. Here." Benn then took something out of the closet, and it was an outfit he had seen before. It was the outfit for Silvershadow. Benn really was Silvershadow. "I- why? Why haven't you told me before now?" He would do his best to keep his calm. Benn hummed. "Because I rarely tell people. People usually try to exploit it to their own needs. You don't strike me as a man who would do that." Shanks wouldn't do that, but he didn't like this. "I just- it's dangerous." Benn lifted an eyebrow. "Don't you think I know? I want to do this. I want to help people. It is your choice. Accept it and we can continue to be friends, as long as you keep it a secret, or we can part ways for good." Shanks knew what he wanted. "I won't tell anyone. I like you as a friend." Benn nodded. "Good. We need to keep this low. I don't want people to know who I am." That he got, and he would keep it a secret, not telling anyone. He would be sure to check on Benn when he could. See if he could help in any way.
He sat with Benn for a bit longer, speaking about this and that, before he headed back to the boat, getting back to his duties, and when Roger asked where he had gone off to, Shanks just said he was off with a friend, which the man accepted. Shanks wouldn't tell anyone.
It was 2 years later they then docked at the island to Benn. He had met Benn out on the sea a few times, but they never had much time until they parted ways again. And, when he got to Benn's house, where the man was and looked to be fine, he said he was done being an assassin, but was still an informant. When he asked about it, Benn said he just didn't feel like being an assassin anymore. It was good, it was safer to be an informant. He then enjoyed the company with Benn, before he left back to his boat. When they returned three years later, Benn said he was completely done. He wasn't an assassin or informant, he was done with that life. And it was good, it meant Benn would be safe. He was glad about this, something he told Benn, who agreed. He had enjoyed it for years, but was now done with it. He would still travel a bit, but not as much, and when Shanks invited him to join Roger, he said no. He didn't want to be a pirate, he liked being on his own. It was fine, he accepted that.
Things were going fine between him and Benn and he was glad Benn was done with that life, so he could live a longer life, a safer life.

Ace sighed, looking down at his leg, which was mangled. He had, once again, stepped in a modified bear trap, and it always hurt like hell. But he was due back to Shanks now, to tell how it had gone, and Ace didn't want to be late. He had some other minor wounds, but nothing bad. But it would need some stitches and such, but it would go fine, he just needed some days. He was tired too, the reason it would take some days to heal, and not some hours. But he needed to head to Shanks and update the man, he could do that. He would just pretend his leg was fine. He could do that.
So with a breath, Ace disappeared, appearing on the Red Force's ship. When he appeared, he did his best to stand still, trying not to lean and favor one leg to give it away. He then updated Shanks, and when he was done, and was about to head away, when Benn made a motion. "Ace, I want a word. Privately." Shanks nodded first, and said they could head to Benn's room to talk, and Ace decided he should just go along with it, and did his best to head to Benn's room, trying not to favor a leg. When he got to the room, Benn sighed as he closed the door. "Sit down, before you hurt your leg more." Ace blinked. How did Benn know? He had done his best to hide it. "I am fine," tried Ace, and he was met with a deadpan look. "No, you're not. Just sit down, I have what I need here." Benn had been able to see through him being injured before, but he was sure he had managed to hide it this time. But that wasn't the case. With a sigh, Ace moved to sit down on a chair. "Fine, you got me. Do what you want to do." Benn nodded and moved to lift his pant leg and started to clean the wound, before he wrapped it. As he was wrapping it, Benn spoke. "Also, you should wear a cane for a bit, to not strain it more. You can borrow mine, I used it now and then before." Ace blinked. "No, it will go fine." Benn shook his head. "Don't care. You don't need to use it here, before you leave, so Shanks doesn't see. But you should. I know how this is." Ace snorted. "Yeah right. Ever stepped in a modified bear trap?" Benn nodded. "As a matter of fact, yes. They have been around for a long time." Ace blinked. "What?"
Benn sighed. "Listen, I know this more than you. Use the cane." Ace blinked again. "How?" Benn hummed. "Remember Silvershadow?" Ace thought for a second, before he nodded. "Yeah, he was a good assassin and informant, before he disappeared. I think he died." Benn hummed. "He didn't die." Ace blinked. "How do you know that? No one has heard from him in years." Benn hummed again. "Because you're looking at him." Ace blinked, before his brain wrapped around that sentence. "You're- you're Silvershadow?" Benn hummed. "Was. I am done with that life. I enjoy being a pirate." Ace nodded. "How-" Benn continued for him. "How can you know it is me?" Ace nodded and Benn moved to stand up, before he turned around, lifting his shirt up. "You know Silvershadow took care of the Abelard family, so is this enough?" Ace blinked as he saw the brand upon his back. He knew there were no survivors from that family, and he knew Silvershadow had taken them out. Was it really Benn? "Why did you stop?" Benn hummed. "Wasn't for me. I enjoyed it for years, but not anymore. Just as simple as that." Ace nodded, he could understand that. This life isn't for everyone. "I just- wow." Benn chuckled. "Many are shocked when they find out, not that many have." Ace nodded. "Does Shanks know?" Benn nodded. "He does, he did before I joined him. He was shocked too and didn't believe it until I showed him my outfit." Ace nodded. "I always liked that name. Silvershadow. And I liked your outfit, as it was silver. Weren't you easily noticed?" Benn shook his head, "It was dark silver. Easy to see in light, bad to see in dim lit places or dark places. But still, somewhat hard to see in light. Even though it was silver, it was hard to see as it blended in. The cornea had issues seeing it." Ace nodded, that made sense.
Benn then took a breath. "So I know how this is." Ace nodded. "Apparently. Can I really use your cane?" Benn nodded. "I rarely use it now, or I haven't for long. Not since I once landed wrong when I jumped down from a ledge 5 years ago. Just please, use the cane for a day or two." Ace sighed, he probably should. "Fine, I will." Benn smiled. "Good. Now, you don't need to use it yet, wait until you have left, so Shanks doesn't see. I know you don't want him to see." Ace nodded, he could do that. He then moved to stand up, feeling better as his leg was wrapped. They then headed out, Ace holding the cane to Benn, and when Shanks saw and asked about it, Ace just said he would take it to a friend for use, which seemed to be enough for Shanks. He then spoke a bit with Shanks, before he left, and he used the cane a day, and he had to say, it did help. He got some worried looks, but nothing bad. It was needed. But, to know Benn had been Silvershadow was a shock, but it also made sense, on how Benn was as perceptive and adept in seeing things and then how to handle it. It was amazing, he would have loved to have fought alongside Benn, but he was sure that would never happen, he was done with this life, which he got. This was amazing news and he was sure Azuruko knew, as he knew everything. Ace couldn't wait until he knew everything.
And that's the chapter, hope you enjoyed it
