As Ruby exited Theodore's office, she found herself contemplative, the spirit had said 'All her aspects, good or evil' would be amplified, what did that mean? Sure, she was probably a demon on the battlefield now, but what about outside of combat? Would her aspects be multiplied then too?
Ruby would get her answer when she came across a hallway where several students had met their demise, where before, upon seeing things like this, Ruby would feel a small pang of loss, and then move on. Now, at the sight of her former student's laid to waste, she had to hold back tears at the incredible feeling of loss that jolted through her.
It was shocking how jarring it was to have your emotions amplified, Ruby attempted to steel herself so that she could continue her walk to the roof of Shade academy, sighing when she felt the power of the relic reinforce her will to move past the unfortunate students.
Ruby approached the door to the roof, and after walking through, was greeted with the sight of the absolutely massive worm she had frozen previously, the worm was easily the size of the CCT, and was truly a sight to behold up close. Ruby drew the relic of destruction, and planted it into the ground.
Taking a deep breath, Ruby focused on her thoughts, once again bringing her daughter's face to the forefront of her mind, "Life, Is Precious." The massive stone form of the worm began to crack, "Life, Is Beautiful." Ruby gripped the hilt of the relic harder, sweat forming on her brow "And it Must. Be. Protected."
Ruby opened her eyes, and for a brief moment, the world was white, the entire Kingdom of Vacuo was bathed in a comforting silver light that rushed out in all directions from Ruby. As it expanded, the center of it grew more intense, beginning to eat away at the form of the massive Grimm. The ball of light continued to grow, expanding out past shade, and beyond, into the kingdom proper. After a short while, The entire City was covered in a silver sphere that reached out to even the furthest street, and rose at least 10 miles into the sky.
Ruby would later find out that her feat, for all of ten seconds, was visible from atop the CCT tower in Vale.
But, the moment was brief, and just as quick as the silver light had came, it dissipated. As the light faded, everyone alive in Vacuo watched in awe, as the largest Grimm ever spotted, slowly began to dissolve, fading into a truly gargantuan column of wispy smoke that rose into the upper atmosphere.
Ruby breathed heavily, That one had to have taken out every Grimm within 20 miles of Vacuo, I know I just performed a feat that will likely never again be matched, but why am I getting more and more exhausted still? I'm not doing anything.
The second spirit sharing the headspace of Ruby Rose spoke up, That would be my Power's downside, I will amplify ALL of you, If you are happy, you become Elated. If you are sad, you will be Depressed. You are tired, So you are exhausted. Every relic has a downside, mine is such.Rose responded sarcastically, It seems like the cost outweighs the benefit there no? You fight with power, the power tires you, now you cannot fight.Hel Scoffed, Nay Sister, There are two sides to every coin, My power is not multiplicative, nor exponential, It is Compounding. You are tired, so you feel exhausted. Now you are exhausted, so you feel utterly drained. The same is true for the opposite, But while wielding my blade, your body never actually knows exhaustion, your mind simply expects you to be tired after such feats, and so my power makes it so. If you think positive, your power shall know no bound.
Ruby panted, feeling more and more worn out as her two Annoying Spirit friends argued in her head, Rude, Both spirits stopped speaking to interject.Ruby was still paying attention though, and through that, she willed herself to walk it off, rising to her feet and pulling the blade from the ground.
As Ruby began to turn around to head back inside, she stopped at the sound of engines. Looking up, she saw her daughter piloting a bullhead with 2 students in the back. One of the students yelled back, "Yo Miss L, We're finished, are you ready to go yet?"
Aurum smiled and called back, "Sure, Let me get aboard and we'll head back to Vale."
Aurum then used her semblance along with an aura powered jump to leap into the open door, smiling a bit when she saw the look of awe on her student's faces.
"Miss L, How did you do all that? That was insane! Local news is going crazy about the silver light from shade, and how every Grimm in the city just disappeared."
Aurum chuckled brightly, her mood far improved and the exhaustion from before seemingly nowhere to be seen, "It's a trade secret... Though if you remember the end of my defense of Initiation island, I did the same trick there, Just on a much bigger scale."
The other student in the bullhead spoke up quietly, "Professor? What's that sword, and why are your eyes a lighter shade of blue than normal?"
Aurum lifted the blade in question, The Relic of Destruction, an ornate golden hilt, with a bright glowing blue blade, both of which were the same color that Crescent Rose was. Aurum said, "It's an old weapon of mine, and... don't tell anyone, but I use contacts, and I'm not wearing them right now."
As the bullhead plied the skies towards Vale, Aurum sat down in the copilot's seat, and after a short moment of silence, spoke softly, "I found out what the relic does."
Neo blinked and looked over to her mother, who sat slumped in her seat, the relic sitting in her lap.
"You did? What does it do?"
Aurum chuckled, "It amplifies your soul. Everything you do, every feeling you have. All of it compounds together to make you stronger."
Neo thought for a moment before saying, "So, If I were to use the relic, and then think, 'I'm as fast as mom' It would make me that fast?"
Aurum looked down in contemplation, "I... don't think so, It's more than that. If... If I was confident that I could survive running at the speed of sound... I think the relic would let me... But I'm not, so I can't, If I tried, It would probably kill me because I couldn't do it before, and even though I physically can do it now. Mentally, I can't."
Neo hummed, "So it works out of will? So can you will yourself to be immortal?"
No, No you cannot.
Hel interjected in Aurum's thoughts, and Aurum jolted a bit in surprise, shivering as the feeling grew into shock before she willed herself to calm down.
"No, The spirit says I cant do that."
Neo nodded slowly, "I see... Mom, why did you jolt so hard there, You looked terrified for a split second."
Aurum shivered once again, a wave of uncertainty flowing down her back, "It's the relic's side effect, It's downside is that for all the power it amplifies, it does your emotions too. I didn't expect the spirit to speak, so it startled me a bit. That got amplified into Shock, and it would probably have kept going till my fight or flight reflex kicked in."
Neo grimaced, "So everything is amplified? Are you sure you're okay to use it then?"
Aurum let out an indignant, "Hey!" before remembering the week prior and shivering at the cool wave of melancholy that passed over her, "I... Don't want to know what would happen if I had another breakdown... probably nothing good... I would probably spiral out of control again... Maybe I'd become so depressed that Rose might have to stop time to stop me from... from..."
Aurum was removed from her thoughts by a firm slap across the face, her sadness quickly getting replaced by anger, "Why the Hel-!"
Aurum stared blankly at her daughter's face, her mind halted at the sight of tears forming in the corners of Neo's eyes, Very quickly, her anger faded and was replaced with a warmness in her chest as she looked at her daughter. "I'm sorry Neo... I didn't mean to get so dark... It's just the relic toying with me, I... I'm basically Bipolar now, with how this thing effects me."
Neo blinked back a few tears, "You know, that is not very fun to listen to. The woman that raised you, sitting next to you with glazed eyes contemplating suicide is not something most people would be okay with."
Aurum smiled, though there was a hint of sadness behind it, relayed in her slumped posture and tired eyes, "I know kiddo, Sorry, I'm... Still getting used to having everything I do be cranked up to 11. I'll get a handle on it, I promise."
Neo leaned over and hugged her mother from the side, "I know you will mom, Just try not to lose it before you do."
Aurum brought the blade up from it's resting place in her lap, glaring at it, "I will learn to control you... However long it takes."
