Diminish Shame

In the new age of reform,

We are shackled and tied,

Unable to express our needs,

And in the cotton fields do our lives lie.

We are people,

With hearts and minds,

With hopes and dreams,

With hands and eyes,

But not equal rights.

By the slave-drivers hands,

Do we keep to our chores,

Overseen and dismissed,

Like lowlife, like hores.

But still our will stands,

And for freedom we sing,

With the lives of our ancestors,

From the mountains they ring.

Join in our song,

And make freedom real,

And think just how good,

How very good you will feel…

Bring equality,

Take away pain,

Bring equality,

Diminish shame.
