I'm Coming Home
Kairi turned away from the memory when she heard the voice again. The kid's voice.
"Hello?" Kairi called, there was no answer, but Kairi wasn't going to leave this alone. The memory faded away, turning into some kind of fog. However, she saw movement in the fog, shadows were going, retreating from her. Kairi frowned and ran after them.
Where were they going? She couldn't see far in… Oh duh!
"Byakugan," Kairi activated her power and began to look ahead. She looked past the shadows, she saw someone running in the distance; running towards her. Kairi focused in on whoever it was running.
It was a kid. Not a little kid, just shy of being a teenager. A boy, he wore a black jacket with magenta accents. He had wild blonde hair, blue eyes, and… whisker shaped birthmarks on his face? He looked just like…
Could it be? He'd be around that age by now. Was it really?
"Boruto?" Kairi whispered. It was a whisper, but the boy seemed to hear it, recognized it he ran faster before shouting.
"Kairi!"
Kairi's eyes widened. She smiled, she almost cried, she couldn't believe it. It was him. It was her baby brother.
However, Kairi's joy was short lived. The shadows seemed to go faster, and they were going straight towards him.
"No, Boruto, turn around," Kairi shouted. However, it was too late. The shadows shot towards him. They circled at his feet and he was forced to stop.
"What the hell?" Boruto looked down. Some shadows just shot out of nowhere and stopped him. As he looked down at his feet, he felt unease. It didn't feel like Shikadai's jutsu. That shadow only stopped someone; it wasn't lethal. This shadow, it was like it was burning, alive… dangerous.
Before Boruto could do anything, the shadow erupted. Engulfing him.
"Boruto!" Kairi screamed. A demonic tower of shadow Heartless had erupted from the ground and swallowed her little brother. She sent chakra into her legs to make her go faster, soon she reached it, she summoned Destiny's Embrace, and launched into an attack.
Her Byakugan showed her that Boruto was still in there. He was inside the dark ball that the Demonic Towers seem to surround.
Kairi quickly started to hack away at the storm of Heartless. She needed to get to it.
Of course, they fought back. As Kairi fought, she felt her memories of Boruto surface.
Kairi watched as her mother fed Boruto. Kairi just watched, Boruto had all her parents attention. Before he came they sat down and told her that, Boruto was a baby. That he couldn't do things on his own yet, so he needed more attention than her. They also said, that didn't mean they didn't love her less. They just needed to take care of Boruto more than her.
When mommy was pregnant, Kairi couldn't wait for her little brother to come, but now… Kairi didn't know what to do with him. Boruto cried a lot. When he cried her parents got upset and tired. Kairi didn't know how to make Boruto stop crying and what if she accidently made him cry.
For the most part, Kairi stayed away from her little brother.
She decided to go outside to play. Mommy would be busy with Boruto. She picked up her ball and went into the backyard. She decided to bounce the ball off the wall that fenced the yard. If Kairi could, she'd go to Mirai's house, but Kairi didn't know how to get there by herself. So, the wall was her playmate.
Kairi bounced off the wall. Kairi would run after it, trying to catch it before it hit the ground. She like to think of it as ninja training. That way she would become faster. Of course it didn't always work.
Kairi threw the ball, but it didn't reach the wall. A hand caught, "What's the matter Poppet, you seem down." The hooded figure said as he spun the ball on his finger.
"Luxu," Kairi smiled, "You came to visit?"
"Of course, I did," Luxu tossed her the ball, "I got to make sure our princess is safe."
Kairi giggled.
"So, how's your baby brother?" Luxu asked.
Kairi then pouted and looked down, "Don't wanna talk about him."
"Oh, that bad huh?"
Kairi sat down, ball in lap, "I said I didn't want to talk about him."
"Too late," Luxu said sitting next to her, "So what's the problem? He cries all night and keeps you awake?"
"That only happens sometimes," Kairi said, "But I don't like it when he cries."
"Why, because it's loud and annoying?"
"That too," Kairi said, "When he cries, mommy and daddy get tired and it seems hard. I don't know how to make Boruto stop crying. I don't play with him because I don't want to make him cry either."
"So, you're going to ignore him?"
"He doesn't know how to talk yet," Kairi whined, "He won't talk for a long time. I don't know what makes him cry and what doesn't," Kairi then flopped on her back.
"Yeah, that's the problem with babies, they can't talk, but you can teach them."
"How?" Kairi asked.
"You know why your parents tell you those bedtimes stories?"
"Because they're fun!"
"That's true, but they also tell you those stories to talk to you. The only way babies can learn to talk is if you talk to them. So, how about you talk to Boruto?"
"Mommy and Daddy tell him those stories already," Kairi sighed.
"But they don't know the one I tell you," Luxu said, "Try being around your baby brother. You can't avoid him forever, trust me."
Luxu then vanished. Kairi wondered if Luxu was a ghost?
Oh well…
Kairi got up and went back inside, she wanted some juice. As she walked in, she heard Boruto in his tiny basket. He was whimpering, not full out crying. Not yet. She saw her mom in the kitchen, whenever she put Boruto down while he was still fussy and went to the kitchen. It meant he was hungry.
Remembering the talk she just had with Luxu, Kairi decided to sit next to Boruto's basket. Boruto was sniffling, Kairi felt bad, she didn't know how to make him feel better. She flinched when he turned to look at her.
Like he was expecting her to do something.
The only way babies can learn to talk is if you talk to them.
Talking to them, huh? Well, sometimes stories did make Kairi feel better and they made waiting easier too.
So Kairi leaned in slightly and looked at her brother, "Once upon a time, there was a warm light," Kairi began, "Everybody loved the light. But then people started to fight over the light, they wanted it for themselves," Boruto kept watching Kairi, "Then darkness was born in their hearts. The darkness, consuming everything, especially the light and the world was destroyed. But fragments of the light survived, in the hearts of children," Boruto stopped sniffling, he was still hungry but Kairi was a good distraction, "With these little fragments, children rebuilt the world. It's the one we live in now. But the worlds are still separated, because the true light sleeps within the darkness. One day a door will open and the true light will return." Kairi finished.
Boruto started to reach up towards Kairi. Kairi just held his tiny hands in hers, "I can't pick you up Boruto, I'm not a grown up."
"That's true."
Kairi turned to see her Mommy standing behind her smiling, and holding Boruto's bottle. She walked over and took Boruto in his arms and began to feed him.
Once he was fed, Boruto was put down for a nap. Then Kairi received, "You did a good job Kairi."
Kairi just blinked, all she did was tell Boruto a story.

Kairi walked into the living room to see her Mom had fallen asleep on the couch. Kairi did want to ask for a snack, but she didn't want to wake her either.
Kairi then saw Boruto was on the floor, awake and crawling around. She remembered someone saying, "Babies have to be watched all the time."
So Kairi decided to watch Boruto. Watch him do what? Probably just crawl around and play with his baby toys. Kairi got closer and stood their watching her baby brother.
Boruto then saw Kairi and started to crawl towards her. Kairi just watched, until he reached her. Boruto then grabbed the bottom of her skirt and started to pull. Kairi was about to yell, when she remembered Mommy was asleep.
Kairi sighed and let herself be pulled down, until she sat on the floor. Then Boruto started to crawl onto her lap and grabbed some of her hair.
Kairi managed to pull her hair free, "Boruto don't pull!" She somehow managed to say without yelling
Boruto didn't understand her, but he didn't grab her hair again. He reached up and started grabbing her cheeks.
"My whiskers don't come off," Kairi muttered, "I know I tried erasing them with my pencil eraser."
Eventually Boruto got tired of playing with her face. He rested his small head on her chest. And got comfortable, Kairi sighed. Apparently Boruto decided to take a nap and she was the bed.
Kairi looked towards Mommy, she was still asleep.
Kairi hoped she'd wake up soon, Boruto was heavy. She looked down at the small tuft of blonde hair. He was also warm.
As Kairi held him, she could feel his small warm body. She felt his hands and legs twitching. She felt his small heart beating.
In that moment, Kairi decided… She did like Boruto… But she was going to keep that a secret from Mom and Dad.
"Let," Kairi took a swing, "Me," she sent another slash, "In!"
The storm knocked her back. Kairi landed on her feet and watched the Heartless disperse. Only to reassemble on her. She barely had enough time to dodge as the Demon tower sprung to life on her location.
"Fi-…" Kairi stopped her spell. Her magic was strong, what if it was strong enough to destroy the tower AND Boruto?
She clutched her Keyblade. Fine old fashion way it was. Unfortunately, hacking away at the Heartless that made up the demon tower was made of.
The demon tower was a storm of shadows, that somehow worked together, like bees in a hive. This was probably their strongest form. Of course, the most difficult move was when the separated and assembled on their target.
Kairi needed to figure out what to do when it did that, because it was going to do it again.
Kairi sent a strike raid into the cyclone. Ven did show her an attack that might help. A strike raid that caused the Keyblade to fly around the wielder, destroying the surrounding enemies. Ven called it Tornado Raid. But that wouldn't get all of them and she'd be disarmed.
Wait… what about the Gentle Fist Technique. Neji had been training her every day, Kairi could fight hand to hand now. But was it enough?
Kairi was about to take another swing, when the Demon Tower disassembled. It was going to have to be enough, "Neji, when this is over, I'm going to find you and make you teach me the Rotation!"
The army of Shadow's closed in on her, "Tornado Raid."
Kairi threw her Keyblade. The weapon spun around her, like buzz saw. Destroying any Heartless in its path. That slowed the flow of Heartless, not stop.
It was time to put her training to the test. Her Byakugan flared as she took her stance, "Eight Trigrams: one palm, two palms, four palms," as the Heartless got closer, Kairi began striking them with fast palm strikes, destroying them in one blow, "Eight palms, sixteen palms," they just kept coming. Kairi sped up her strikes as best as she could, "Thirty-two palms, sixty four palms."
She was at her limit! There was just no end to them.
"You told me you wanted to get stronger," Neji helped Kairi up after he knocked her down. "When I was training with my team, we had a motto, 'stronger than yesterday.' We would everyday we would train to be the previous days mark."
"I get that," Kairi said, "And I'm trying."
"You need to try harder. You have someone need to be stronger for remember!"
Every time she tried to live by that motto, she thought of Sora. She wanted to be stronger for him. However, right now, Boruto needed her to be stronger.
Stronger than yesterday.
"One hundred eight palms," Kairi pushed her body despite the pain in her muscles. She wasn't going to let the Heartless kill her or her brother.
Kairi then had an idea. Quickly she sent chakra in to her legs and jumped, then used magic to double jump.
The Demon Tower appeared beneath her. Writhing up towards her. She saw the dark orb that was it's center and Boruto's prison.
Kairi gathered chakra into her palm, "Eight Trigrams: Air Palm!" She shot the concentrated chakra down towards the advancing darkness. The Demon Tower was like any storm, no resistance in its eye. The dark orb was slammed down by the powerful concentration of wind. Causing the Heartless to be knocked away.
Kairi summoned her Keyblade as she dove down towards the ball. Light gathering at the tip as she stabbed down into the orb of darkness.
There was a flash of light.
"Boruto!"
…
Boruto's head hurt. Where was he? What was he doing again? He wondered that as he rose back to consciousness.
He started to open his eyes, but then he shut them again. The sun was too bright.
He tried to open his eyes again, this time slowly. As he did, he realized someone was looking down at him. As his senses returned, he could feel someone holding him, helping him sit up.
He blinked to clear his vision. Red… white… white eyes… Mom? No, Mom didn't have red hair…
Boruto's vision finally cleared up and he could see the worried face of the person holding him.
Boruto's eyes widened when he saw her. Red hair trimmed to frame her heart shaped face. White eyes, watering from fear and worry. Whisker shaped birthmarks, on red cheeks. She was older than him. A teenager… She kind of looked like his mom when she was her younger. There were differences, but Boruto saw the resemblance between this girl and the one from the photo.
"K… Kairi?" Boruto's dry throat lurched as he spoke, "Kairi… Is that you?"
"Y-Yeah," Kairi struggled to answer.
Boruto stared at her for so long. Looking at her face that wasn't a little girl, but almost a woman; but most importantly, she wasn't dead!
Boruto's body moved on it's own. Before he knew it, he shot up and wrapped his arms around her. He didn't realize he was crying until he realized his cheeks were wet.
Kairi gently rubbed his back, "It's okay… It's okay…" she whispered, trying to calm him down.
"Are you really… Are you alive?" Boruto asked. Terrified that everyone was right. That she was gone and he was just wasting his time.
Kairi gently moved his head down to her chest, "Listen."
Boruto did listen to her chest.
Th-thump, Th-thump, Th-thump.
"It's universal truth," Kairi whispered, "Those who have a heartbeat are alive."
Boruto kept crying. He kept listening to his sister's heartbeat. Proof she was alive. Kairi kept him in a gentle embrace, "I'm so sorry, Boruto."
"What are you apologizing for?" Boruto asked.
"A lot of things. I'm sorry I let Luxu trick me. He did something to me, he made me forget you, Mom, Dad. I forgot you… For so long… I'm so sorry…"
"It wasn't your fault," Boruto exclaimed, "It was Luxu and Dad was useless too."
"Hey, hey," Kairi made Boruto look at her, "This wasn't Dad's fault." She remembered the last time she saw him. How her father desperately tried to save her. The fear and desperation on his face, "He did everything he could."
"But still," Boruto cried.
Kairi's heart ached, seeing her little brother, "Hey, hey, what's the matter? Tell me what's wrong?"
"A lot of stuff is wrong," Boruto cried, "Everyone thinks you're dead."
"That makes sense, I've been gone for a long time," Kairi explained.
"We have a little sister," Boruto said next.
"We do?" Kairi asked. She always wanted a little sister, "What's her name, what does she look like, what's she like."
"Her name's Himawari," Boruto began, "She's two years younger than me. She likes drawing. She's always sweet and nice… unless you make her mad."
Kairi giggled, "I already can't wait to meet her."
"She can't wait to meet you too," Boruto said, "Our stupid old man, he became Hokage."
"Really?" Kairi asked, "Dad said he was trying to become Hokage," Kairi smiled proudly, "He did it."
"He's busy all the time," Boruto whined, "He's barely home anymore. Mom makes him these meals he doesn't eat. He just ignores us now."
"Hey, he's the leader of all the ninja in the country, it's a big job," Kairi tried to assure.
"It doesn't mean he can ignore us all the time," Boruto cried.
"It's okay, it's going to be okay," Kairi said. She didn't know about the situation with her family. It could be as bad as her brother said, but Boruto could also be blowing it out of proportions.
"I'm trying to become a ninja, but I don't know if I have the resolve."
"Resolve?"
"We're taking our graduation exam to become genin. Old man Kakashi is the instructor."
"Kakashi… Wasn't he Dad's boss?" Kairi recalled the name.
"Yeah, he was the Hokage before Dad," Boruto reminded.
"Oh yeah," Kairi remembered, "He was… weird…"
"Well, he's hard to beat," Boruto said, "He said my class is horrible."
"What?"
"He said that we all lack resolve and it's my fault."
"Why would it be your fault?" Kairi asked.
"Because… I don't know what I want to do…"
"You don't know what you want to do?" Kairi asked.
"I don't know what I want to do with my life," Boruto said, "I like where I am now. With my friends, hanging out. We have so much fun. I thought I could just figure out what to do later. But apparently, I don't have the resolve to become a ninja."
Boruto didn't know what to do. He felt so down.
"Boruto, not knowing what to do with your life, is not the same as having resolve," Kairi said.
Boruto looked at her confused.
"Boruto, you're a kid, you're supposed to be looking for the person you want to be. Not knowing now is not bad thing. And having your friends around while you look for that, is not a bad thing, if anything it's the best thing!" Kairi continued, "Kakashi wants resolve? Well, make finding your purpose your resolve. Make being with your friends your resolve. Your friends aren't just your resolve, they're your strength, your power. They are the ones who listen when no one else will, they are the light in the darkness they guide you home. If they're having a hard time with this exam, then help them! They aren't just your power, you're their power!"
Boruto looked at Kairi in awe. Then he felt funny. Like his conscious was being pulled away, "Kairi?"
"I think you're waking up," Kairi said.
Boruto's eyes widened, "No, Kairi where are you? I'll come get you."
"Boruto, it's okay," Kairi said, "I'm really far away, it's going to take time, but Boruto, I'm coming home!" Kairi looked him in the eyes as she made her promise, "I want to see Mom, Dad, I want to meet Himawari, I need to yell at Kakashi for telling you that you have no resolve, but I want to meet you! When I left you were a baby, you didn't know who you were. Now you know yourself a little better, and I want to meet that! I'm not a ninja, but I'm just as strong as one, and my resolve is stronger than any ninja's."
"Kairi…"
"Now, Boruto, go pass that test and don't forget, your friends are your power…"
Boruto opened his eyes.
"Boruto, you're awake," Sarada's voice called.
Boruto sat up to see he was surrounded by half of his class. Was it a dream?
No! It wasn't a dream, Kairi's alive. She remembers… She's coming home! Boruto began to stand. He should be a ninja when she comes home.

Kairi watched her little brother disappear. She absorbed all the information that he told her, "I have a sister. Dad became Hokage… Boruto needs me…"
Boruto was clearly having a hard time. Boys his age usually went through that. Kairi wanted to help him. Talk to him. She needed to go home.
She then remembered Sora. Kairi felt horrible, "Sora, I need you to wait a little longer, okay?"
"He's fine with waiting."
Kairi stood up before turning to face Neji, "You know, you look a little older than the photo mom showed me."
"I was thirteen in that photo," Neji explained, "So you finally remembered."
"Yeah," Kairi said, "It's still a lot to remember, but I'm working on it."
Neji nodded, "Your disappearance put your parents through a lot of pain."
Kairi looked down. Recalling again, the last time she saw her father, "I figured."
"Your mother was pregnant when you were taken. She almost had a miscarriage."
Kairi looked up horrified, "Miscarriage?"
"Kairi calm down," Neji said, "She was fine and so was your sister. Boruto told you she was born."
Kairi heard him, but she still felt responsible. She almost killed her little sister, before she was even born… No, don't get upset. You have work to do!
"Uncle," Kairi looked at Neji, "I think it's time you finally taught me the Rotation!"

Boruto looked at his new headband. He passed. His whole class passed. Kairi was right, they were his power. He sat in his bed looking at the headband when he heard the door open. He looked to see Himawari peeking in.
"Hey Hima," Boruto patted the side of his bed. Himawari walked in and sat next to him.
"You did it," Hima said proudly, "You finally became a ninja. You're so cool."
"I know," Boruto couldn't help but smirk, "It was all thanks to Kairi."
"Kairi?"
"Yeah she appeared in my dream, and she reminded me that my friends are my power," Boruto explained, "We're going to see her soon."
"Really?"
"Yeah, either I find her, or she comes home," Boruto looked up at the ceiling. It almost felt like a game, to see who would find each other first. He was going to win.
"What does she look like?" Himawari asked.
"Well," Boruto recalled her face, "She's pretty. Like mom…"

Riku went into the castle Kairi slept in. He was called. Ansem said he and the other researchers found something strange about Kairi. Something about Kairi's DNA being weird.
He was led to the computer that had a model of her DNA, "Her DNA has an extra helix. Which I believe is for this extra system in her body," Even pulled up a body chart with a weird looking body system.
"So what does it-…"
"Guys," Kairi suddenly shot up. Nearly giving everyone in the room a heart attack. Riku turned and his heart condition didn't get better. Kairi had whiskers drawn on her face, but that wasn't the worst part. Her eyes were white, somehow, she had gone blind.
"Kairi," Riku went to her side placing a hand on her shoulder, "It's me don't worry, everything's going to be okay."
"Huh?" Kairi asked.
"We'll do everything we can to restore your sight. We have a team of scientists after all."
Kairi's expression went from annoyed to angry, "Riku, I'm not blind," She looked at him, stood up and walked towards him, "This," she motioned to her face, "Is how I was born. I'm not blind, my pupils are just white, like my irises. I'm aware I look a blind cat, but that's just how I was made!"
Riku glanced at the scientists who had been studying her DNA, and they all nodded. Kairi's eyes were white… not blind.
"Oh… Um…" This was really awkward.
"Let's move past that," Kairi took in a deep breath, her new appearance was going to take some getting used to, "I need your help. I need to find my family."
To all the trolls and ney-sayers. I'm not going to stop writing this fic. If you don't like it don't read it, but I'm going to continue this story!
