Chapter 6: Spa Night Activities

One milder second Saturday of February 2022, my mentor, Jenna and I met up with my childhood friends Sarah, James, and Henri at Pittsburgh's Perfect Parties client Abigail Mifflin's house in Fox Chapel. "Hi, guys!" I greeted my friends. "Hi, Angel!" Sarah greeted back. We all had soda to drink. "I know what exactly I would like to do and eat next Saturday," Abigail told us. "We are going to start off with foot massages with warm, exfoliating foot baths, and then facial masks, followed by manicures and pedicures, and the movie we will watch is Never Been Kissed, since it just came out on Disney+ and I am 21 years old now." "Wow, I am surprised that The Lion King was not on the list, although that is not exactly a girly movie, even though you girls live near the Green Belt," I stated. "What about snacks?" Henri asked. "Don't slumber parties always have good snacks?" "Well, I am going to serve the same snacks served in past years at spa-themed slumber parties, which are Manicure Marshmallow Treats, Chocolate-Covered Strawberries, and Finger Sandwiches," Abigail told us, "along with a vegetable platter, a fruit platter, and another birthday cake for my birthday." There were some leftover pieces of birthday cake from the day before for all of us to eat. "I am surprised that you are not going to play Santana music like we listen to on the way here, although it is not exactly soothing music," I stated. "Abigail, what made you want to throw a spa party, all of a sudden?" James asked. "Well, James," Abigail replied, "I just thought that a spa would be a relaxing and refreshing theme." "I still can't forget about what Justin and Max told you at the New Year's Eve celebration," I stated. "That they may be boys, but they still love the spa!" "Valentine's Day is coming up and I still don't have a girlfriend," James confessed. "Not since I met Sybil her first year of high school, but even we didn't last long." "Maybe, you need a spa theme for a change of pace since you were having so much trouble with School Picture Day," I told James. "You didn't even want to get out of bed, you were so worried about your appearance, and I had to help you." "Come to think of it, I was having trouble that day, as well," Sarah remembered, "and Henri was there to help me! I wanted to impress Benedict as he was my new boyfriend before he got suspended from school." "I also got new spray and cover-up lotion for my eczema flare-ups, so I personally look better," I explained. "I also feel like I need plastic surgery on my face to look like I am turning 30 years old in 2 months." "No, you don't need plastic surgery, Angel," Sarah told me." "I agree," James added. "You look beautiful just the way you are." "I don't know who would want plastic surgery to look older," Sarah stated. "How have you been, Abigail?" Jenna asked. "I haven't seen you in 2 years." "I have been fine, Jenna," Abigail replied. "Just balancing being a client at Pittsburgh's Perfect Parties with schoolwork for Chatham University." "That's good," Jenna replied. "I am still continuing to be Angel's mentor." "I was just telling Sarah, James, and Henri how in the past 3 years, we helped a 7th grade girl, including your younger sister, Hannah with her Sweet Swap exactly 3 years ago, before helping Isabella Black 2 years ago and Zoe Meanor last year." We then headed off to Target in Harmarville to shop for everything that we needed for Abigail's slumber party, including, oatmeal, milk, and honey, along with other supplies for facial masks, inexpensive nail polish, various vegetables, fruits, chocolate for the strawberries, marshmallows, Tootsie Rolls, food coloring, cookie cutters, breads, and other fillings for the sandwiches. "I am surprised that you guys weren't at my birthday party in the South Hills yesterday," Abigail told all of us. "What happened?" "Things came up at the office, Abigail," Sarah explained. "But, there will be an overnight in Murrysville just for you, if you want to come." "Oh boy, that sounds like fun!" Abigail exclaimed. "I will definitely be there!" After our shift was over, we headed to the community center in Murrysville where we met up with some of our other friends Alex Russo, Justin Evans, Max Greenwald, Carly Shay, Spencer Puckett, and Carly's stepdad, Freddie Benson for the overnight where we listened to Santana, NSYNC, and 98 Degrees. Carly, Spencer, and Mr. Benson didn't attend the overnight because they had a better idea for Abigail and her friends during the upcoming work week, in which they spoke with our boss, Mrs. Ellis about. Alex, Justin, and Max joined us in making things to eat for dinner, such as pizza, sub sandwiches, fish sticks, potato wedges, stir-fried vegetables, ice cream sundaes, crackers and cheese, trail mix, cut-up vegetables, and mug cakes. We also did fun activities such as playing volleyball, basketball, and soccer, going swimming, having a squirt gun battle, breaking open a pinata, blindfolded makeovers, and a photo shoot. "I am glad that I ended up trying some of the snacks," Alex stated. "Even though I am trying to save most of my junky foods for tomorrow." "I hope what your guy friends said was true," I told Alex. "That they may be boys, but they still love the spa, as we were just talking about physical appearances for School Picture Day as teenagers." "I think that is actually true," Alex agreed. "The spa is not just for girls!" After our fun was over, it was time for all of us to go to bed. "Thanks for a great evening, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Good night, guys!" "Good night!"
