Chapter 19

No One's POV

The Next Day…

Misaki released a deep breath. It's almost nine in the morning and yet she already felt tired. Last night's dinner had been one of the most awkward dinner she had. She felt exhausted because of Genryu who kept glaring at her for no apparent reason. She kept thinking if she had done something wrong to anger Kai's uncle. Last night, when Genryu came in Kai's room, she was about to introduce herself out of politeness but Kai had ushered her out and she was glad he did because she was feeling quite jittery at that moment. She thanked her stars that she was standing away from Kai when his uncle entered or who knows what he would have thought of her. Aside from that, she was feeling strange just by thinking about Kai. She couldn't point out if that was because of Kai and his unexpected gentleness and kindness. She was sure he would definitely be mad at her and tell her off but he didn't. And that moment when he looked apologetic, something had stirred in her heart. She shook her head to not to think about him as she prepared herself for the day. He had gone out of his way and helped so much till now and she owes him so much, she realized.

Breakfast felt like the repetition of last night's dinner, awkward and unnerving and both Kai and Misaki felt the exhausting experience. Both of them were glad that Genryu had left due to an urgent business after breakfast. Misaki went to the parlor after helping Rukino in the kitchen while chatting. Something rubbed her leg and she glanced down to see her Assista-Cat and she smiled.

"Assista-cat!" Misaki smiled as she picked him up and patted his head while the cat mewed. "I missed you too" she said as she approached the men in surprise.

"Nice to meet you finally, Kai-san" Jinbei greeted with a smile. "I'm Hirato Jinbei, Chief of Board of Directors of Oracle corp." he introduced as he shook hands with Kai.

"Likewise, Hirato-san" Kai greeted.

"Jinbei-san!" Misaki smiled at the sight of the uncle figure.

"Misaki-chan! I'm glad you're safe" Jinbei exclaimed at the sight of Misaki.

"How's Shin-san? He didn't come, right? I told him last night-…" she said, looking around.

"Relax, Misaki-chan. He wasn't allowed out of the hospital… although he tried…" Jinbei said and Misaki chuckled. "I… am here to take you back" he continued.

"Aa…" Misaki blinked as if she just now remembered this wasn't her home. She glanced at Kai who was looking at Jinbei with a frown.

Kai didn't know why he was frowning at the elder man. The man was here to take Misaki back and he had always known she would have to leave sooner or later but then he had an urge to glare at the man as if he was taking something away from him. On the other hand, Misaki stared at Kai's injured arm for few seconds and sighed. The next words she spoke had surprised both the men.

"Jinbei-san… I want to stay here for few more days…" Misaki declared and Jinbei frowned.

"Misaki-chan… I hate to say this but you should reconsider… since you were attacked because Shigeo knew your whereabouts. I'm sure Kai-san would-…"

"I know… and I understand… but I don't want to be alone in the house since Shin-san hasn't discharged yet… Besides, I owe so much to the people here… especially Kai. At least, till Kai's injury gets better. He saved my life" she reasoned. "Can I?" she asked Kai.

Kai blinked; still not sure if he heard right. He kept quiet but couldn't ignore the happiness he felt at the moment. His face didn't show much but he was happy to hear that she wanted to stay. On the other hand, Jinbei now frowned at Kai's silence. He turned to Kai who seemed to give an uninterested look to them.

"But Misaki-chan… It's-…"

"Sure. You can stay if you wish" Kai told Misaki. "Besides, it's much safe here, Jinbei-san. Tokura, why don't you bring some snacks for our guest?" he suggested to Misaki who missed the sarcasm in his voice. This was the first time they met and Kai decided he didn't like the man…

Misaki nodded and smiled at Jinbei saying, "I had baked some cookies! I'll be right back" and she left.

"Kai-san, I'm grateful for all you've done for us but you had claimed she'd be safe… why was she out there in the first place? It could've cost her life" Jinbei said.

"I believe we both had our lives in danger, Jinbei-san… Don't you think she was lured out of here because you knew her whereabouts?" Kai countered, causing Jinbei to send a glare at him.

"Kai-san, I appreciate what you have done for her but I won't accept your accusation on me of leaking information of her whereabouts" Jinbei narrowed his eyes at Kai.

"I haven't accused anyone… Just some speculations. Last time, three of your men came to me for interrogation after Tokura's disappearance but you and Shigeo weren't there. And besides, I had denied the fact that she was here than how come he knew? The only source was Shin-san. Need I say more?" Kai was blunt and his piercing gaze held the reigns in the conversation.

"Kai-san, you're making me feel worse just by implying it. It's not like I would intentionally tell others and put her in danger. I care for her" said Jinbei and Kai actually felt he went too far but frowned when Jinbei continued, "I wasn't even in the city for a while"

"It sounds you're defending yourself" It was more of a statement from Kai which made Jinbei furious. Kai merely stared at him in nonchalance.

"Who do you think you-…?"

"Jinbei-san? Is something the matter?" asked Misaki as she returned with a tray.

"Nothing, Misaki-chan" Jinbei stood up. "I have to leave now but you know you can't stay here too long. I'm agreeing because I understand your reason. Please, take care of yourself" he added, taking some cookies from the tray Misaki carried. "Thank you. Take care, Kai-san" he said, shooting a glance at Kai who sent him a nod.

"Jinbei-san… Thank you for taking care of Assista-cat. And for understanding…" Misaki said with a smile.

"You're always welcome, dear. Take care" Jinbei said and left.

"Tokura, there's something I need to discuss with you. Come to my office at 2 pm sharp" Kai told her and left.

"Sure"

Some Time later…

'Can't he work in one place?' Misaki thought as she gathered the files that were scattered on couch and the table, courtesy of Kai who had called her to bring them to his office.

"Toshiki, I was thinking-…" Genryu said and frowned when he saw Misaki who had an open file in her hands. "Why are you handling the files? I had told Toshiki not to trust outsiders with our files" he said, his tone harsh. Misaki flipped shut the file at that.

"I meant no harm, Kai-sama" Misaki said, keeping the files on table.

"No harm, you say? Don't you see he's injured because of you? He's in this state because you are in his life!" Genryu snapped which caused Misaki to stare at him in surprise. "And stop flocking around Toshiki. I know what you're trying to do. Women these days…" he added, distastefully.

"…" Misaki was too stunned to speak after his last sentence.

Genryu continued with a glare at Misaki, "For all I know, you could be a spy. I know your industry is going down and also your intention of faking to help him-…"

"Kai-sama, please stop these ridiculous accusations at once!" Misaki said, anger evident on her face and spoke as a woman of great stature. She continued, "If you're thinking that I'm taking advantage of your nephew for my benefit, you're wrong! I'm merely doing it because I'm grateful to him for many things. I am not the one to stoop so low or desperate to take such disgraceful measures that you speak of to save my corporation. I'm perfectly capable of doing it myself!"

There was silence… Genryu was surprised… shocked even. Misaki was panting after such a long speech and anger.

"I'm not convinced completely. Either you're a good actress or I'm not good enough to see through your motives. If you are that grateful, leave him alone. He'll be better off without you in his life. One of your people tried to kill him! Toshiki's life was in danger and he was almost shot because of you, Tokura Misaki, remember that" Genryu said and Misaki looked at him in surprise and sadness.

"I… know…" Misaki said, averting her eyes from Genryu. "I'm sorry I was rude… Genryu-sama… Kai asked me to bring these files. Excuse me" she added and left, taking the files with her.

"I don't know what you see in her, Toshiki… What're you thinking…?" muttered Genryu and sighed as he left the premises.

Meanwhile…

"I'm not late, am I?" Ren asked Asaka who stood beside him. He glanced around to look for Genryu and sighed in relief when the uncle wasn't seen.

"Only ten minutes, Ren-sama… Oh and this is your schedule for today" Asaka smiled as she handed him the memoranda.

"Aa… Thanks, Asaka. By the way, when is Te-chan (Tetsu) coming back? His Osaka tour is taking long" Ren said as they made their way in Ren's office.

"He'll be here next week…? And Kai-sama has sent him only three days ago. He keeps updating me" Asaka informed.

"Hmm. Miwa-kun and Aichi-kun-…?" Ren paused as he read his schedule and gasped as he looked at Asaka. "You are kidding, aren't you?" he said with surprised wide eyes.

"I wish I was…" Asaka told him, sympathetically. "Kai-sama would have gone but since he is injured, he can't accompany his uncle and… Aichi-kun and Miwa-kun are already assigned other tasks so… Besides, it's only for two hours" she said.

"No… this can't be happening…" Ren muttered in disbelief.

"Well… this is your department so you're the only one… You're going with his uncle whether you like it or not, Ren-sama… in fifteen minutes"

"Is it too late to apply for a sick leave?"

Asaka shook her head, amused as Ren slumped in his chair.

Some Time later…

"You're late" Genryu said as soon as Ren stepped out of the elevator. Ren almost jumped at the voice but smiled at Genryu.

"Good morning, Kai-sama" Ren greeted, ignoring Genryu's glare. "Shall we get going already? I've got everything we need" he added, pointing at the briefcase in his hand.

"Hn. The sooner we're done the better. Let's go" said Genryu as he walked off and Ren followed.

'What's worse than being stuck with him of all people?' both Ren and Genryu thought at the same time and sighed.

"Asaka-san, did you see Kai-sama…? Or Ren-san?" Aichi asked as he reached Asaka's cubicle.

"They just left for that trade meeting" Asaka replied.

"Eh? But Kai-sama was supposed to take this with him!" Aichi exclaimed, showing a file to Asaka who paused in her work. "What will happen now? This is important" he muttered.

"…Uh… Don't worry, Aichi-kun. Ren-sama will handle everything and I'm sure he took a briefcase with him… the one you had kept for him" she said, thinking.

"What briefcase…?" he asked, skeptically.

Asaka only blinked at him.

With Ren… and Genryu…

"Are you sure this is the right place?" Genryu asked Ren who knew the hotel wasn't much to the uncle's liking although it was designed in traditional style. The place wasn't much high class but their clients had to relocate the meeting spot for some reason and here they were…

"Yes, Kai-sama. Tsukishiro-san is more of a traditional person" Ren replied as he flipped open a file from his briefcase. "But the file isn't that one. At least I brought this one" he said.

"What do you mean this isn't that file, Suzugamori?" asked Genryu when he took the file from Ren's hands to look in it. "You're right… That means I handed you the wrong file yesterday… This one only has contract papers" he sighed. "Now what're we going to do?" he muttered to himself as the clients approached them.

"Hello, Tsukishiro-san! Makimoto-san!" Ren greeted their clients as he shook their hands and Genryu did the same.

"Nice to see you again, Suzugamori-san! It's an honor, Kai-sama" the clients greeted with smiles.

'I think I have to postpone this meeting…' thought Genryu as he looked at Ren who chatted with the clients.

"So about the contract-…" Tsukishiro started but was interrupted by Genryu.

"Excuse me, Gentlemen… About the meeting…" Genryu said.

"I'll provide all the details to you if that's alright" Ren told them. The others nodded and he continued, "According to the last testament, the deal stated that…"

Genryu stared at Ren in astonishment as he continued in his formal and professional tone. He listened and was surprised that Ren even managed to state their statistics and percentages and profits in the conversation but he couldn't say whether it was correct since all the information about it was in the file they had left behind. But his doubts were soon cleared when the clients approved and nodded positively as they went through their own files. Genryu would comment here and there. The clients were impressed by Ren's presentation and if Genryu was impressed, he hid it well behind his poker face.

"You're right, Suzugamori-san…" stated Makimoto as he looked up from his file at Ren. "And there's no problem at all" he added.

"Of course, there isn't. Suzugamori-san is always well-prepared… No wonder Kai-sama brought him along" Tsukishiro told Makimoto. "We accept, Kai-sama" he told Genryu as he signed some papers. "It's always a pleasure doing business with you" he added as he smiled at Ren and Genryu.

"I believe our meeting time is over" Makimoto told his boss as he shook hands with Ren and bowed at Genryu.

"It sure is. We'll take our leave now" Tsukishiro said as he stood up from his seat with a smile while his secretary packed their things.

"I'll contact you for further details, Makimoto-san" Ren told the older man.

"Thank you for your time" both the parties bowed at each other before the clients left.

Once their clients left, Genryu sipped his forgotten drink and sighed tiredly while Ren looked out the window and noticed it had started raining. Genryu glanced at Ren beside him whose back was turned to him at the moment, with his hands in his pockets.

"Good work, Suzugamori" Genryu said and Ren blinked in surprise as he heard it.

"…!" Ren turned to look at Genryu to thank him but…

As Ren turned, his elbow hit Genryu's hand that held the vine glass causing the drink to spill on his suit…

"Uh… Oops?" Ren said as he quickly grabbed some tissues and pressed on Genryu's soiled suit shirt, much to the older man's annoyance. "I think… it's already soaked through…" he added in defeat.

The glare thrown at Ren was enough to shut him up. Genryu put the now empty glass on the table and gritted out a, "Let's just go" and Ren quickly followed with the briefcase. By the time they exited, it was raining hard. Genryu called their chauffer to bring the car in front of the exit while something across the street caught Ren's eye as they waited under a shade since the car was parked away from them. Ren handed Genryu the briefcase in a hurry and crossed the street for a kitten that was shivering under the rain, leaving Genryu standing at the entrance door.

"There… this is much better, Kitty" Ren smiled once he put the kitten under a shade. He turned to go back and couldn't help but laugh when a car zoomed past him, drenching Genryu with splash.

"I have a handkerchief if you want" Ren offered in amusement once he reached Genryu who glared at Ren.

"I wish this is the last time I go anywhere with you" Genryu sighed.

"And I hope your wish comes true…" Ren muttered to himself.

Kai's Office…

02:10 PM

"You told him what?!" exclaimed Misaki. 'That's why he called me here…?' she shot a glare at Kai.

Miwa, Ren, Aichi and Asaka glanced at each other than at Kai who sat at his desk. He was munching on the Misaki's home baked cookies. He noticed Misaki was being too nice to him as she wasn't complaining about anything and he could at least enjoy while it lasts. The others had just explained the whole situation to Misaki. Kai was quiet, merely staring at the drama unfolding in front of him as if telling them 'Start with your Convincing-Misaki-Program'. On the other hand, Misaki was upset by Genryu's words but she knew he was right. She had decided to leave but now she hears this. Genryu said those things because he cares for Kai, she understood. So she accepted the fact that because she put Kai's life in danger, Genryu considers her a threat and danger to his nephew.

"We didn't have a choice, Nee-chan…" said Miwa. "It was the only solution I came up with… I lied for my best friend… to save him from misery" he confessed dramatically and Kai had an urge to roll his eyes.

"Come on, Misa-Q. It's not a big deal" Ren said in nonchalance.

"Not a big deal? To pretend to be his girlfriend? His uncle hates me!" Misaki countered while glaring at everyone.

"That's not a big deal either. He hates everyone" Ren shrugged. "You won't believe what happened earlier today… but that's not important right now" he added.

"You aren't really helping, Ren-san…" Aichi said, nervously. "Misaki-san, that decision was taken in desperation… We're really sorry to drag you in it but there's no other choice now… because Kai-sama already knows it's you…" he reasoned.

"What's done is done. You can't back out now, Misa-Q" Ren insisted.

"I didn't agree to it, Suzugamori" Misaki fired.

"Misaki-chan… We understand why you don't want to do it but please think about it? Kai-sama is forced to get married. What would you have done in that situation?" Asaka asked, showing sympathy.

"I would have told him the truth" Misaki replied.

"He's hard to move. You talked to him, right? Talking to that man is like talking to a rock! And he's one hell of a scary rock" Ren shuddered after saying. "He can't be pleased. I have already given up" he surrendered.

"Hmm…" Misaki pondered over the above reasons.

"So you'll pretend to be his girlfriend right, Nee-chan?" Miwa asked, hopefully.

"No, I won't"

Kai smirked at her reply.
