Chapter 10: Fashion Show Activities
One cold and snowy second Saturday of March 2021, I met up with my childhood friends Sarah, James, and Henri at Pittsburgh's Perfect Parties client Madison Dayley's house in Springdale. "Hi, guys!" I greeted my friends. "Hi, Angel!" Sarah greeted back. We had waffles for breakfast and cheesecake for dessert. "Look, I got my hair cut and colored yesterday," Madison told us. "Very nice," I remarked. "I remember when I used to get my hair colored and cut for my birthday, too." "The weather today is not very nice, though," James pointed out. "Thank goodness we were able to make it today!" "You were the one who drove me around Natrona Heights on a cold and yucky day once, and there were a few snowflakes in the air," I pointed out. "At least I got to wear my favorite pink blouse for one last time with my black pants and flats." "I shouldn't have worn my high heels today," Sarah stated. "Here is a dress that I never wear that I am going to use for the clothes exchange and fashion show," Madison told us. "I also plan to have a toilet paper dress game and competition." "What about food to eat?" Henri asked, licking his lips. "Don't good slumber parties always have food?" "You ask that every time, Henri," I pointed out. "It's getting annoying." "I am going to serve Pizzazz Popcorn, Paparazzi Pizza, and Star Cookies, with... an ice cream cake from Glen's!" Madison happily told us. "You're going to get an ice cream cake from Glen's?" I happily asked. "I know, Carly and her friend and stepfather would maybe like to be up for an ice cream cone next Saturday before the party," Sarah told me. "That was also part of my surprise," I stated. "Sarah and Henri surprised me with pizza from Pizza Hut and ice cream cake from Dairy Queen." "What did you think of hearing Santana last week, Madison?" James asked. "I like his music," Madison replied. "I would like to play the music during the fashion show part of the show and I would also like to watch the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic on Disney+." "It looks like it is going to be an amazing slumber party," I remarked. "Now, you are making me look forward to my birthday on April 3." "Your mom said that she has a special surprise for you on your birthday, huh?" Sarah asked. "Well, you are not leaving your trip to Monroeville Mall with us, Alex, and her guys friends that day either way, because we want to see you and spend time with you on your actual birthday." "I know that," I stated. "Mom tells me that I will find out about the surprise on my actual birthday." "Going back to the white dress and the toilet paper dress competition, I wore a dress like that for James's high school graduation," Sarah continued. "I remember once when Hannah made an American Girl doll with a red cap and gown." "Do you think that I should do that, too?" Madison asked. "I am not a big fan of American Girl dolls, but still." "Of course, Madison," I replied. "It would be a great birthday present." "I had to wear a white button-down dress shirt with a black tie, black pants, and black shoes," James explained. "If I give this dress away, I can get another white dress for my high school graduation in 2 years," Madison pointed out. Then, we headed to Target in Harmarville to shop for everything that we needed for Madison's slumber party, including toilet paper rolls, popcorn, food coloring, dough, marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, pizza toppings, a sugar cookie-decorating kit, and aluminum foil. Once our shift was over, Sarah, James, and Henri drove me back to my mentor, Jenna and her sister, Jill's apartment in Point Breeze. "Thanks for a great day, everyone!" I thanked my friends. "You're welcome, Angel," Sarah replied. "Bye, guys!" "Bye!"
