Feedback: Yes, please! Anything you want to say, say it!

Author's note: This is a little thing that came to my mind when I waited for my husband to finish up before we went out for a walk. I guess you can call me obsessed with dangerous men... (Not my darling husband, though, LOL)The man in this piece IS Richard B. Riddick, of course. The other character is up to your own view on the Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick stories to decide who it is.

When Darkness Falls

"Why?" I beg, falling hard on my knees, gasping as the sharp pain shoots through my back.

I look up at him, at the face of my lover, and now my killer. My hands clasp behind my back, attempting to reach the shiv I know sits embedded there. Fourth lumbar down, left side of the spine, just as he always said.

Best way to kill.

He pulls it out with a sickening wet sound and sinks down in front of me, his eerie eyes observing me. Is it sadness I see there? I'm not in a state to tell, my life is quickly drifting away. Like a ghost of a friend I thought I knew, thought was mine to keep.

Now I realize I only borrowed it.

"Why?" I whisper again, even the pain starts to disappear now. Only a dull throbbing reminds me, and the fact that I can't really feel my legs anymore.

I frown and try to take yet another breath. It has become so hard. Like there isn't enough oxygen in the air.

Lightheadedness is beginning to take hold of me. Our surroundings have begun to waver in jigsaw patterns and a darkness has entered the periphery of my vision. The only constant is his eyes, his beautiful iridescent eyes, focused upon me, as if helping to carry me through the pain and sorrow.

I slowly sink to the floor, my brain gets a last rush of fresh blood and colors appear in the room. Clear, comforting colors enfold me in their wings.

As darkness drops its merciful cloak over my tormented body, I keep his gaze locked with mine.

I can't breathe.

"Got too close," he mumbles. That's the last thing I will ever hear.

And there is sadness in his eyes.
