Chapter 11: Diamond Eyes

Subaru was laying in his room after a long shower after a long day working in the mansion. Ram, as usual, kept him busy with various tasks that he had to learn from Rem. The life he led now was surprisingly one of comfort. The only new thing was that a certain blonde rarely left his side.

Beatrice would go back to the library to read when he was working, but he always made sure to come see her on his breaks. The cold empty shell that was Betty seemed to dissipate after he promised to stay with her.

That particular evening, Subaru had been invited by Betty to the library. She had a question.

Flashback

Subaru walked in to find a smiling Betty sitting in her chair. "Evening Betty. You wanted to see me?"

"Yes, I suppose. Betty wanted to repay you for helping me get out of this miserable place." She stood and walked along her many shelves. "You told me you were from another world, correct?"

"Yea. Everything is different here. Magic, demons, witches, spirits. Nothing's the same but spoken language really."

"Interesting. Could you tell Betty a bit about your world?" The little loli returned to his side and gestured for him to sit on the staircase in the back. Afterwards, she sat on his lap.

Subaru wrapped his arms around her and hugged her like a teddy bear. "Let's see. Where I come from has way more technology, for one." He reached in his pocket and pulled out his phone. "Some have called this a metia. It's actually called a cell phone. It allows you to talk to people who are many kilometers away."

"So like sending a letter?"

"No, not quite. It can do that as well, but this one allows you to talk to someone. You can hear their voice in real time." He handed the silver flip phone to the spirit. "Here, it also shows pictures." With a quick press of a button her opened the camera. "Smile, Betty."

Without any hesitation, Betty smiled brightly. The flash went off and took a photo. "So what did that do?"

He opened the photos and scrolled till he found the one he wanted. "See, this is what it did. It uses a lens to capture a moment in time. Light is captured and analyzed by a device inside and produces the image." Betty stared at the image of her and Subaru.

"Is there any way that Betty can have this 'photo'?"

That was a tough question. "I'm sorry Betty. I can't give you the photo without another device from my world."

Betty's smile fell. It soon returned when a thought popped in her head. "What if we send you home to get Betty one?"

"Huh?"

"You said you came from another world. Betty thinks that there may be a way to send you back. Since you say that you are on Earth in your world, perhaps it is in another dimensional space, I suppose." The loli giggled a bit and jumped to her feet. She ran to another section and found a book on dimensional doors. "This is it. I researched this topic before without much interest. Now, maybe it can help."

Subaru stood and followed her voice. "What do you need to know?"

"First, Betty needs to know some specifics of your world. Countries, landmarks, major cities."

"Okay, I live in a country called Japan. Not to far away, is a city called Kyoto. My people don't understand magic at all so the levels will be low."

"Alright." A few minutes went by and the pages flipped on their own. "I have narrowed it down to around 250 worlds. It will take some time to find the right one. In due time, Betty can find your home."

He was elated. Subaru was beginning to lose hope that he could ever go home. "You're serious?" Betty just smiled and nodded. He quickly picked her up and spun her around. "Oh, Betty you're the greatest! I love you!" He planted a big kiss on her forehead, stunning the little girl. He set her down once he realized she wasn't smiling anymore. "I'm sorry Betty. I got carried away."

"Do it again."

"Huh?

"Kiss Betty's head again." She mumbled.

"Okay." Subaru gently kissed her head. "Thank you, Betty. You don't know how happy you've made me. I will leave you to your work, but don't hesitate to come see me." With that, he left to his own room. Thanks to Betty's door magic, when he left, he was in his bedroom.

End Flashback

The next morning, Subaru woke up to find a sleeping someone next to him. That sleeping form was Emilia. Somewhere in the middle of the night, she had come and slipped in his bed. Her pale arms were wrapped around his naked torso as if she was holding on for dear life. The only thing that kept him from disproving that theory, was the tear stains on her cheeks.

A light groan came from the elf as she stirred in her sleep. She kept coming up until her face was nuzzled into his neck. Most guys would be jumping for joy to see a beautiful girl this close. (You know who you are.) But Subaru was worried. He was glad that Emilia had trusted him enough to come to him, but she had been crying. Being the protective soul that he was, he instinctively wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close to him. He rubbed her back to keep her relaxed as she slept. Before he could bring himself to wake her up, a knock came from the door. That last person he expected to knock's voice came from the other side.

"Subaru?"

"Puck?" The door opened to reveal the small cat that was floating about a meter off the ground. "How come you weren't with her?" Only then did he look down to notice that, not only was the green emerald missing from Emilia's neck, her clothes were also missing. He didn't dare pull up the blanket to see what all was missing, but he knew at least her shirt and sleep pants were gone.

When Puck saw this, he growled. "I'm going to ask you this once. What did you do to my daughter?" Panic was all that went through Subaru's mind. That was, until help arrived.

"Bubby!" An excited high pitched voice came from behind Puck.

"Betty, what are you doing here?"

"Betty came to check on Subaru. When she came here early this morning, he was still asleep. Then again, that was around 1 or so." Betty peered around Puck and noticed Emilia in the bed still asleep. "Strange, she wasn't here when I came by."

Puck was at a loss. If Emilia came after he had gone to sleep… "Why is she here?"

The raven haired lad in the bed was starting to relax. "I noticed tears on her face when I woke up. A nightmare perhaps? I don't know why she's here Puck."

As if on cue, Emilia started to wake up. The smile on her face grew wider as she felt the comforting embrace of one that she had come to love. Her diamond violet eyes fluttered open and landed on Subaru's face.

"Morning Emilia." Her ears cried in happiness as his voice blessed them.

"Good morning." She snuggled even closer, not aware of her current dress, nor the others in the room.

Both Puck and Betty were just standing there looking on at the two. Neither dared say a thing to embarrass her. After a few seconds, Puck quietly ushered Betty out the door and along the hall to her library.

Subaru and Emilia stayed like they were for a few more minutes, enjoying the morning atmosphere. It was only after she started to nod off again, that he woke her up completely.

"Emilia, it's time to get up." Subaru stroked her hair as she smiled.

"No, 5 more minutes." She groaned and shoved her face down on his bare chest.

"Come on, you know that Rem and Ram will be cross if we don't show up for breakfast."

Emilia brought herself to release him from her arms and sit up. Only then did they both realized, she wasn't wearing a shirt or a bra. Subaru dared not look below her neck. Instead, he pulled her back to his chest. In a sense, he helped her cover up.

"W-Why did you do that?" She stuttered with her pale face now bright red.

"So that you could keep covered. Don't worry, I didn't see anything important." Subaru gently stoked her hair to calm her back down. He could feel her elevated heart beat transfer vibration from her chest to his. "What made you come in here last night?"

The embarrassed half elf looked down for a minute. "I had a bad dream. I keep getting flashes. I don't know what they are. It seems like a memory or something. There is this little girl, and a woman, a-and a door. Everything just hurts." Her eyes started to leak again. "What's happening to me?"

"I don't know Emilia." He wrapped her in his arms again. "But I will help you all I can. On another note, where are your clothes?"

"Oh, uh, when I woke up, I was all sweaty and hot. I took them off to cool down." The blush on her cheeks grew brighter.

"Now, last question. Why are you here? Not that I don't love having you here."

"I didn't want to be alone. I also figured that my sweaty clothes would smell bad, so I left them in my room, I wasn't thinking clearly. I left Puck's crystal on my nightstand so he wouldn't freak out when he woke up."

Now Subaru had the whole story, and, as he figured, Puck heard it all too. "Happy now Puck. I didn't do anything."

"Sure. I'm cool now." Puck blipped in making his presence known.

"AH! Puck! What are you doing here?" Emilia cried as she hugged Subaru to cover herself again.

"I wanted to make sure that my daughter had not been violated. Since you came here on your own, I guess we're good." Once again, Puck was gone. Emilia relaxed a bit.

Subaru had an idea to help her out. "Hey Emilia, why don't you use my shower to clean all the sweat off, and I can go get your clothes from your room?"

Emilia agreed since she still had on underwear minus her bra. The nervous girl stood and rushed to the door on the left of the room. "Can you get me some clean clothes?" Her timid voice echoed from the bathroom.

"Sure." He laughed and put on his black shirt to go and retrieve the promised clothing. 'Well, interesting way to start the day.'
