And the reason was… my laptop broke down and because of lockdown, I couldn't fix it. Finally I got it back (Thank goodness!) and I recovered all the data. Chapter 28

Kai's POV

'I hope I didn't do anything embarrassing last night…'

I took the pills for my so called 'hangover' from my bedside table. Naoki must have put them here. I can only recall some glimpses since my head was all jumbled and I felt so heavy and sluggish… But I do remember apologizing to Tokura and then what…? I didn't do anything stupid, I hope… At least, I did what I had to do and that's enough. I was surprised when she approached me even after I told her all that in a fit of anger but she did. I was so sure that she'll ignore me but I'm glad I was wrong. Was I holding her hand or was I imagining…? My head had been spinning. I sighed. What am I trying to recall anyway? I don't even remember if she said anything… And that Reishi guy… Good thing Ren beat him. He was flirting with Tokura! But I saw her avoiding him so no worries. Besides, he doesn't stand a chance-… What the hell am I thinking! Can't I stop thinking of her for a few minutes?! I thought I was worried for her safety so to stop worrying, I sent Ibuki but-… Seriously, I'll have a migraine like this…

'I really need coffee right now!'

I got ready for the day in casual clothes (an off-white short sleeved tee and jeans). Since its Sunday, I'll just lounge in the house. I made my way down the stairs, to the parlor. I don't feel like doing anything today. Rukino-san won't be home and uncle won't be here for two more days so it'll be just us three… since Tokura has left. Not again… Stop thinking about her! And my mind blanked… Because the moment I stepped in the parlor… I saw her. She's sitting there on the couch and she was looking at me.

'You've got to be kidding me…'

No One's POV

"Tokura…?" Kai said in surprise.

"Hey…uh… good morning, Kai" Misaki greeted as she stood up. "How are you feeling now?" she enquired.

'I have no idea…' Kai thought.

"I'm good. But you aren't just here to ask me that, right?" he sounded upset but they both didn't notice it.

Misaki sighed and said "Yes… Kai, I know I shouldn't be here and I'm sorry for just barging in on your day off like this-…"

"No, it's fine. I'm just-… never mind. Anyway, what brings you here, Tokura?" he asked.

"Well, this is… uh… I'm here to ask for your help" she told him and he was surprised.

"Yes, Boss! She needs your help with something and she's waiting for you for almost thirty minutes! Don't worry, Boss Lady, he'll help you!" said Naoki as he put a tray of mugs of hot coffee and some snacks on the table while Kai took a seat beside Misaki.

"Don't call me that!" Misaki glared at Naoki.

"Yeah-yeah. Well, enjoy yourselves!" Naoki told them. "And Misaki-san, don't be so stiff. You aren't just some guest here" he told Misaki, grinning and left.

"You were waiting for me all this time, Tokura?" Kai asked, handing Misaki the coffee mug and taking another for himself. He hid his smile behind the mug.

"N-no!"

"Hn… Well, what do you need help with?" he asked and drank his coffee.

"Answer some questions first. It's about Aichi-kun… Is he seeing anyone at the moment?" she asked.

"W-wha-…?" Kai almost spit out the coffee but managed to gulp it down. He frowned in confusion at Misaki when she continued.

"Since you're his best friend, I thought you'll know if he likes someone-…"

"Tokura, you're here to ask me this…? Why're you asking me? You should ask Aichi if you want to know that badly" he glared at her.

"I know I should but it would confuse him and maybe complicate things… that's why I'm asking you" she elaborated in hesitance while his face turned plain.

"I see… He isn't seeing anyone. Go ahead and ask him out" he stated as he suddenly stood up to leave.

"W-what?! Kai, what are you-…? Hold on… You're misunderstanding the situation!" she looked at him in surprise and stood up. "I'm not asking for myself!" she clarified.

"Explain" he stated as he sat back down, now curious and relieved.

"Last night at the party, I talked with Kourin-chan and she told me she's… uh…" she paused.

"She's in love with him. I know that" his statement surprised her and it was strange hearing him say something like this.

"Oh… And what about Aichi…?" she enquired and drank her coffee.

"Everyone thinks he likes her but he doesn't know it. Miwa and Narumi said so… but I know he'll just deny and dismiss it if anyone asks him" he said, finishing up his coffee.

"Great! So they just need a little push! And I'll need your help for it, Kai" she said and he could see the excitement in her eyes. He sighed.

"Look, Tokura… I understand you're just looking out for them but… I don't think we should meddle in something like this" he shared his view.

Misaki frowned. "You see, Kai… I'm doing this for my… our friends. I would help Kourin and Aichi in any way I can. Besides, it's a matter of three lives! I can't just stay still and let you all be in misery when I know I should have done something" she told him and he looked thoughtful. "I promise I won't ask you for anything after this. I won't interfere in any of your business again" she insisted, determined.

"That's not the point" he said. "You didn't ask Miwa and others" he stated but he was glad she came to ask him for help.

"That's because you are already involved in this so I had no choice" his eyebrow twitched at her words. "So you're ready to help or you're ready to marry Kourin-chan?" she said in impatience and he didn't like the last option.

"What's the plan?"

"I have discussed this with Akari-chan. First, we have to confirm what Aichi's feelings are"

Naoki and Shingo watched the duo in discussion from afar. They were glad that two were on good terms and the uncle wasn't present…

"They make a really good team… don't you think, Ishida? Rukino-san missed the scene…" Shingo said.

"They should just get married already!" Naoki shrugged.

"If they make a good team doesn't necessarily mean they should just get married"

"Yeah… but he always looks happy with her. He likes her, Shingo. Can't you see? Clean up your glasses!"

"I can see, You Delinquent Wanna-be! But he'll never admit it!"

"Aa… Then I hope Boss Lady realizes it"

Meanwhile…

"Here's your Sunday special!" Akari said as she put the tray on the table.

"Thank you, Akari-san!" Miwa thanked her with a smile.

"You're always welcome, Miwa-san" she smiled and added "Misaki-chan was here a while ago. You missed her"

"That's fine. I know she's busy" Miwa said.

After talking with Kourin last night, Misaki had told him she'll do something about the matter. Miwa gave in when she assured him she'll ask for his help if necessary and since she will be with Kai, Miwa was convinced she'll be fine.

"I'm surprised she went to a party. Did she enjoy?" she enquired.

"Well, we were with her. Funny thing is… we were looking for her and she was with Kai" he chuckled.

"Really? Hmm… She didn't tell me that. Now she's started keeping secrets from her best friend… because of your best friend. And she keep telling me she doesn't like him" Akari complained.

"That can't be true. I mean, she stayed with him the whole time as he wasn't feeling good yesterday"

"Totally true!" Ren chimed in as he and Asaka approached Miwa's table. "Hello, Akari-san" he greeted Akari.

"Welcome, dear customers!" Akari greeted in her usual style.

"Hello, Miwa-san and…" Asaka paused as the two men knew the green haired lady but she didn't.

"She's Yotsue Akari-san, Manager of this place and Misaki-chan's best friend and you are Narumi Asaka-chan, our friend and Ren's secretary" Miwa introduced with a smile.

"Nice to meet you" Asaka greeted.

"Nice meeting you too, Narumi-san. Let's be friends" Akari smiled and extended her hand to Asaka and they shook hands.

"Sure"

"I'd love to chat but it's a busy day today so… call me when you decide your orders" Akari said with a smile and left the three.

"Okay…"

"Kai just hung up on me when I tried to invite him here. I'm sure I heard Misa-Q's voice and now he isn't picking up" Ren informed as he sat across Miwa.

"Something is going on…" Asaka commented as took a seat beside Ren.

"Uh… the thing is… They are investigating something together" Miwa told them since he knew what Misaki was up to.

"Working on his day off? What can we expect from Kai anyway?" Ren shrugged and Asaka sighed.

Few Hours later…

Misaki glared at her empty cup of chocolate smoothie as she waited for Kourin to arrive. After she shared her plan with Kai, she recalled his comment and his plain look…

"That's a dumb plan, Tokura. What if it doesn't work?"

"Then it's your bad luck. Don't blame me"

"Still it's a dumb plan"

'That jerk of a man… Can't even appreciate what I'm doing for him! If it weren't for Kourin and Aichi…! I could have asked Miwa and others but… I can't let them face consequences if Kai's uncle gets the wind of our interference' she thought.

"Good afternoon, Misaki-chan!" Kourin greeted. "Sorry to keep you waiting" she added.

"It's okay, Kourin-chan. Shall we get going?" Misaki stood up and smiled.

"Sure! I'm surprised you called me out so suddenly. We can hang out like old times and catch up"

"Of course! Let's go to the tower. Do you recall that carnival we attended?"

"Ah… When we were kids. Good old days…"

"Uhh… I'm glad you called me to hang out like this but… just the two of us…?" Aichi asked, perplexed.

"What's wrong with that? You don't want to hang out with me?" Kai asked instead and looked away to avoid looking at the bluenette.

"I-it's not that, Kai-kun… I mean, you usually call Miwa-kun and Ren-kun as well or you like to walk around alone… but you invited only me" Aichi said, skeptically and Kai 'Tsk-ed' at his smartness.

"Can't we hang out? Just the two of us? It's… more convenient if we're alone"

"Eh?! W-what do you m-mean? Is that some kind of… c-confession…?"

"What?! NO!"

"That's a relief…" Aichi sighed and laughed at Kai's bewildered expression.

'Man… This is awkward! Hurry up, Tokura' Kai thought.

"You know… Miwa and Ren would keep annoying me and my uncle wouldn't let me roam around alone for a while" Kai made an excuse and sighed.

"Aa… true. But I'm happy anyway… that you're finally opening up to others like this. That's a nice change" Aichi smiled.

"Hn" Kai grunted. His phone beeped with a message and he pulled out his cell phone to see Misaki's message.

-From Tokura

-'We're in position. I can see you two. Don't mess up with your worse acting' Kai's eyebrow twitched as he read.

"It feels so long ago… Last time I came here with Emi and Mom… Looks like they have made some changes to the tower" Aichi said, looking in opposite direction from where Kai could see Kourin.

"Aa…" Kai glanced at Kourin as she stood at the edge of railing and from his and Aichi's position, it looked like she could easily fall. 'Good spot, Tokura'

"-… Emi was so happy!"

"Isn't that Kourin?" Kai said, looking at Kourin standing at the far end on the floor above them. Aichi turned to look up at her.

"Yeah. It's her!" Aichi smiled at Kai. "Let's go and-… But what's she doing standing there alone? It's dangerous!" he realized.

"Yeah… She looks kind of lost, don't you think? Maybe she's really upset …er… about her life…? She did look sad the last time I talked to her…" Kai said as he tried to recall Misaki's words.

"Huh? Last time you talked to her…? Wasn't it last night at the party…?" Aichi thought aloud.

'I knew something was wrong with Tokura words!' Kai mentally berated himself.

"T-that's not important right now, Aichi! What if she jumps off? We've to get her out of there" Kai said as he tried to cover up his slipup and pointed at Kourin who was looking down the tower.

"…?!" Aichi was shocked at the words as he glanced at Kourin and recalled her words.

"…but it's the only choice I have…"

"…It doesn't matter who I like…"

"No!" Aichi exclaimed and gasped. "Kourin-san! Got to stop her!" he ran off.

Kourin's words rang in Aichi's mind as he ran towards her in frenzy. Kai followed a few feet behind him but Aichi didn't look back if his boss followed. Kai was surprised when Aichi didn't even apologize to the people he bumped into while running. He even skipped some steps of the stairways while running upstairs. It was the first time Kai saw Aichi like that… He was blindly running to reach her, without even sparing Kai another glance who called Misaki on the phone while following Aichi.

Meanwhile…

"It's so high but you're right, Misaki-chan! The view is great!" Kourin said and smiled while Misaki messaged Kai.

"I knew you'd like it!" Misaki smiled, looking in a distance. She stood beside Kourin but made sure she hid herself well using the curve of the wall as a cover so that Aichi and Kai can only see Kourin. 'I hope he didn't mess up his speech' she thought.

"Are you hiding something from me, Misaki-chan…? You're… acting a little different"

"I… didn't notice. I guess, I'm just really happy?"

"Hmm… You do look happy… What's the reason or rather-… Who's the reason?" Kourin smirked as she nudged Misaki's arm. Misaki shook her head.

"Looks like they're preparing for some festival" Misaki said, pointing down at the street and Kourin looked down. "Kourin-chan, do you remember we used to talk about our Prince Charmingwhen we were kids? Now that I think, it's funny… we even made a bet on who'll find hers first!" Misaki shook her head and laughed lightly.

"Yeah… After we read those fairytales… But as the name says, they're just fairytales" Kourin chuckled.

"Hmm… but you have really found your Prince Charming and… he's not from fairytale. I think you should tell him" Misaki's words surprised Kourin.

"Y-you're right, Misaki-chan…" Kourin said and was about to continue but Misaki's cell phone started ringing. "Afternoon nap…?" Kourin read the screen name and chuckled as Misaki received the call, shrugging.

"I got it" Misaki said on the phone and hung up. "There's something else I need to show you. Come on" she told Kourin and dragged her away.

"K-KOURIN-SAN!"

As soon as a panicked Aichi reached the spot where Kourin stood, he found no one there. He stumbled and he dropped to his knees, eyes wide in shock as he let his emotions take over.

"N-no… T-this can't be…" he grabbed his hair in despair.

"Aichi!" Kai reached him and called out.

"K-Kai-kun… K-Kourin-san just… I c-can't… S-she was just here!"

"Calm down, Aichi!"

"But K-Kourin…"

"Aichi…?"

Aichi looked up, hearing Kourin's voice. Relief washed over him as he could see her in front of him. On the other hand, Kourin looked at Kai in confusion then at Aichi, concerned while Misaki stood behind her.

"What-…" Kourin was shocked when Aichi suddenly rushed to her and hugged her.

"I'm glad you're safe… Thank goodness" Aichi sighed in relief.

"A-Aichi…?" Kourin called him when he didn't budge.

"I'm s-sorry…" Aichi said as he let go of her and stared at the ground, his hair covering his eyes "I thought I lost you…"

"I-It's okay… Are you alright…?" Kourin managed to ask as her heart raced.

"Kourin-san… don't even think of giving up! There are people who care a lot about you!" he told her and Kourin stared at him in surprise.

"H-huh…? But I…"

"Just thinking about it makes me-…" he paused and exhaled before looking straight in her eyes. He continued, "I didn't give it much thought at first… Kourin-san, this might be sudden but I just realized that… that you mean so much to me! I know you already like someone but-…"

"Aichi, I love you"

"-…I just can't explain… Wait-… E-Ehhh?!"

"Well… that went better than expected…" Misaki muttered as she stood few meters away and Kai had joined her when Aichi ran to embrace Kourin.

"Better…? Tokura, did you see the state he was in? What if he had jumped off instead?" Kai said and sighed.

"He didn't. Besides, I trusted you with him" she told him.

"Hn"

"You should be grateful that my dumb plan had worked. Besides, you should just appreciate I saved you… from your misery" she boasted, mockingly and smirked at him while he looked at her, giving her a lopsided smirk in amusement.

"Thank you, Tokura Misaki" he said, sincerely.

"That's bett-…!"

Misaki gasped in shock when Kai leaned down and lightly kissed on her cheek. She was blushing, he noted as he straightened and gave her a curt nod while she stared at him in surprise.

"W-what was that for?!"

"For saving me, Tokura…"

"…?!"
