I Promise I'll Be Here Later
Kairi's head was spinning. She felt like she inside a tornado that was inside her head. She could hear voices, but they were muffled. Like in an ocean.
"She… …. ssed ….. exhau…."
"….. Her…. Whol…." Kairi vaguely heard Riku's voice inside her tornado.
"….Whe…een…"
"…..scrol…. orld…"
No matter how much Kairi tried to focus she couldn't understand them. She was really tired. Maybe she should just rest; Kairi remembered she was supposed to do something important, but at the moment she couldn't remember. It was irritating, but Kairi couldn't do anything about it. She would sleep and hope whatever it was that was important, was still there.
As Kairi let herself drift further in unconsciousness. She thought she felt someone rest their hand on her cheek… it felt nice.

Kairi eyes blurrily opened, but then she winced in pain. Her eyes were hurting and so was her head. The first thing she saw was a ceiling… of course. She felt really warm, but something heavy was on her. Was her blanked lined with lead? Just waking up, Kairi could barely think straight: where was she, what was she doing before this?
Kairi tried to get up, but something was weighing her down; and that something moaned a little. After moving, Kairi's senses got stronger. Something was clinging to her. Kairi looked to her right towards the source of the moan, and she was met with a crop of black hair.
"Himawari," Kairi couldn't help but whisper. Sleeping next to her was her little sister. Himawari had her head resting on Kairi's shoulder while her hand clung to the fabric of her hospital gown. She must had been the weight Kairi felt.
When Kairi tried to move her left hand, she realized she couldn't. Another hand was holding it. Kairi looked down to her left, "Mom."
Her mother was sleeping in a chair next to the bed. Her head was resting on the bed, her right hand was grasping Kairi's.
Now Kairi remembered. They defeated the Otsutsuki. They came back, Kairi was about to reveal herself and then… she passed out. Kairi had to stifle a frustrated moan. Why was it always something?
Kairi turned back to her Mom and sister. They were both clinging to her while she slept… how long was she out? How long did they stay with her?
Did they think if they left her alone, Kairi would disappear again?
Kairi looked around as best as she could. She didn't want to wake Himawari or her Mom. She saw a small table next to her. It had flowers and get-well cards. Seriously how long was she out?
Kairi heard a door open. She quickly closed her eyes. She didn't know what was going on. She heard footsteps coming closer. The she felt her mother gently shake. Like someone was shaking her.
She heard her Mom stir. Kairi didn't hear anything when she felt the weight lift off her legs. Whoever it was that came in must have motioned for her Mom to talk outside. They probably didn't want to disturb Kairi and Himawari.
She felt her Mom's hand trail up her arm to her face and brushed away her bangs. Then she felt a gentle kiss being pressed to her forehead. Kairi bit her tongue; it was the only way to keep her from reacting; from stiffening up or blushing from her Mom's affection.
As Kairi heard the footsteps recede. She carefully cracked open her eyes. Her Mom had left. Only when she heard the door open and close did Kairi open her eyes completely. She managed to lift her head to look around. It looked like a hospital room, for a single patient.
Kairi began to wonder what happened. She remembered feeling dizzy, Kairi just thought it was nerves from meeting her family. But it made her pass out. Kairi wasn't the type to pass out from nerves. She also wondered what happened while she was out, where was Riku?
Kairi sighed and laid her head back down. When she glanced to her right, white met blue. Himawari's eyes were open, watching Kairi.
She's awake? Kairi jolted into a sitting position. Himawari sat up as well. Time froze as the two sisters stared at each other. Kairi had no idea what to say, Boruto was different. She saw him as a baby, she kind of knew him before. Himawari was a complete, blank slate to Kairi.
"Kairi?" Himawari finally spoke.
Kairi tried not to tense. She spoke to her. Why was Kairi so freaked out her little sister spoke to her? Kairi survived the end of the world, the Keyblade War, and the Otsutsuki. Himawari was a kid!
"I-…" Kairi needed to say something. She needed to make a good first impression. She needed to try and look like a calm, respectable older sister, "Whiskers!"
What. The. Hell?
"Huh?"
"Uh…" Kairi's mouth then started talking, "We both have whiskers," Kairi couldn't believe the things coming out of her mouth, "It makes us look like cats," Someone must had been controlling her mouth from somewhere else, "And… cats are cute! Ya know. They're small fluffy and they do cute silly thing and…" Someone who clearly loved to watch Kairi suffer, "Just like you. I mean-…" Kairi needed to pull herself together, "Hi, I'm your sister-…"
Himawari suddenly jumped on Kairi with a hug, shutting Kairi up.
Himawari snuggled her face into her shoulder, "Big sister."
Somehow, this calmed Kairi down and caused her to return the hug. Kairi took in a deep breath, feeling her little sister's warmth. Kairi remembered what Neji told her. Her Mom almost miscarried because of her… Himawari was almost never born. Kairi felt guilt weigh down on her.
"I'm sorry," Kairi said.
"It's okay," Himawari pulled away with a smile, "I say funny things too sometimes."
Kairi smiled, not choosing to correct her. Kairi reached out and cupped her face, "So, you're my baby sister?"
Himawari nodded. Kairi took her hands back, "I wish I could have seen you when you were still a baby," Kairi frowned, "I'm sorry I missed you being born… and every Birthday since then… I owe you a lot of presents," Kairi perked up, "What do you want? I'll get you any present you want, just name it."
"Anything?" Himawari asked.
"Yep," Kairi nodded. There just something about Himawari that made Kairi want to spoil her.
"Okay, I want a picture," Himawari said.
"A picture? Of what?"
"Of you and me," Himawari said looking down, "You and Big Brother have pictures together, but we don't have a picture."
"Oh right," Kairi recalled, "Boruto said you wanted that before," Kairi looked around, "Where's my… Oh good, there it is." Hanging on a hanger on the wall, was Kairi's dress. Kairi got up and quickly searched the pockets and pulled out her gummiphon, "Good, it's still here," she went back to the bed and sat next to Himawari. Himawari looked at the object confused, "What is it?"
"This is a gummiphone."
Himawari looked more confused, "If it's a phone, where's the buttons?"
"It's a touch screen," Kairi turned it on and started swiping the screen, "You touch the screen, and it does what you want."
"Oooh," Himawari watched fascinated.
"This device has many uses, like making calls like all phones, but," Kairi pressed the camera app, "It's also a camera," the front camera showed Himawari and Kairi, ready to take a picture.
"Really?" Himawari asked.
"Yep, okay, get in close, we're taking a picture," Kairi positioned Himawari next to her, "Okay, smile." Once the two were smiling, Kairi took the selfie. The scene froze on the screen and went straight to Kairi's photo album.
"Did it work?"
Kairi brought the phone closer and opened her photo album. She brought up their picture, "Yep."
Himawari smiled when she saw the picture.
"I'm gonna need to hook this up to a printer, but now we finally got picture," Kairi said, "What do you think?"
"I love it," Himawari said as she hugged Kairi again.
Kairi rubbed her back, "We'll… get one with Boruto later, okay?"
"Okay."
Kairi felt Himawari's warmth. Her sister was alive. She was so small, and cute, and sweet. Kairi could feel herself loving her already. Kairi was so wrapped up in those thoughts, she didn't hear her Mom come in.
"Kairi…"
Kairi and Himawari quickly let go of each other to turn and see their Mom.
Hinata looked wide-eyed at her two daughters. It still so hard to believe. Himawari and Kairi were together. It was all like a dream.
Kairi gulped, now she had to try and talk to her Mom, "H-hi Mom," Kairi awkwardly waved. Well, it was… kind of better than her introduction to Himawari.
Without another word, Hinata crossed the room and wrapped her arms around Kairi. Kairi stiffened when her Mom hugged her.
"Kairi," Hinata whispered as she held her, "Oh Kairi," Kairi reached up to wrap her arms around her Mom, "You're really here… You're really home…" Kairi felt Himawari wrap her arms around her as well. Kairi was now sandwiched between her Mom and sister.
For a few minutes, Kairi felt warm and safe.
Finally, Hinata pulled away from Kairi. She looked at Himawari, "Hima, can you go wait out in the hall? I need to talk to your sister."
Kairi figured this was going to happen. Time to talk about everything. She felt Himawari cling more to Kairi. Clearly, she didn't want to leave.
Kairi turned to her sister who looked sad. Kairi gave her a reassuring smile, "I'll still be here Himawari. I promise, we can talk more later."
Himawari pouted a little, but gave in, "Okay."
She climbed off the bed and went out the door, giving her sister one last look, before it closed.
"Kairi," Hinata looked her over, "Are you hurt."
"I'm fine, Mom," Kairi began, "I'm…" Kairi recalled everything Neji told her. Her Dad almost killed himself looking for her and her Mom almost miscarried Himawari, "I'm so sorry Mom."
"Kairi," Hinata sat on the bed next to her, "You have nothing to apologize for. You were young, and Luxu somehow managed to-…"
"I know Dad almost killed himself looking for me," Kairi interrupted, "I know you were pregnant with Himawari when I was taken and… the stress almost caused you to miscarry."
Hinata stilled. She had hoped Kairi would never know that, "Kairi, that wasn't your fault. We were all upset, and I should have taken better care of myself."
Kairi still didn't look relieved. The sight caused Hinata's heart to ache.
"Kairi, none of that matters anymore," she made Kairi look at her, "Because you're home now."
Kairi looked back down at her lap, "You still want me?"
That question broke Hinata's heart, "I never stopped wanting you back. Not me and not your Father. Losing you, we lost a part of ourselves, but you came back," Hinata made Kairi look at her again and rested her forehead against hers, "You made us whole again by doing that."
Hearing that made Kairi so happy. She took in a deep breath, "I'm not a little girl anymore Mom, a lot has changed."
"I know," Hinata said, "You're so beautiful now," Hinata smiled as she stroked her hair, "And so strong."
Kairi smiled.
"Kairi, can you tell me what happened?" Hinata finally asked.
Kairi took in a deep breath, "Luxu, never hurt me. Not physically at least," Kairi began, "but he did something to my appearance."
"What did he do?"
"He did something to make my eyes blue and birthmarks disappear, but… He also made me forget everything," Kairi confessed, "He put false memories in my head. I thought my family was dead so, I didn't start looking for a way home for a while."
"Where were you this whole time?"
"That's more complicated to answer," Kairi confessed, "I… I told Dad some of it when I went to save him, but we were in the middle of a fight and I didn't have time to explain anymore. Did he tell you?" That was when Kairi realized, "Where's Dad and Boruto?"
"You're father is… busy at the moment and so is Boruto," Hinata didn't tell Kairi that Naruto was having her headstone removed from the cemetery and Boruto was trying to clean up her room. She wanted the room to be a surprise and she wanted the grave to be forgotten.
"He said, things that… didn't make sense, and I wanted to hear them from you first," Hinata said.
Kairi sighed, "I know it sounded crazy, but it wasn't a lie. I was… on another world… far away… That's why no one ever found me."
"Another world?" Hinata asked in disbelief.
"I know it sounds crazy," Kairi repeated, "But it's and true and if I need to prove it I-…"
"Kairi, calm down," Hinata said, "I do believe you."
"You do?"
"We fought beings from other worlds before," Hinata said.
"You have?" Kairi didn't know, but then again she thought the Otsutsuki were dead before, "Okay, we'll need to talk about that later. But I was left a nice, safe world. An small cluster of islands," Kairi explained, "I grow up in a nice community, raised by nice people, in a safe environment… until I was fourteen."
"What happened when you were fourteen?"
"Well, it's long and complicated," Kairi said, "Long story short, monsters from other worlds attacked the islands."
"The Otsutsuki?"
"No, something else," Kairi said, "after that, I gained the power to fight them, as well as the power to travel to other worlds," Kairi summoned her Keyblade, "I was in… a war," Kairi chose her words carefully. She wasn't ready to tell her Mom about all the bad things that happened to her, "During that war, my Byakugan activated for the first time."
"Your Byakugan did?"
Kairi nodded, "Things happened, we finally won, and… Someone I cared about, didn't come back."
"Kairi," Hinata pulled her into a hug, "I know how hard it is when a comrade dies."
"He didn't die," Kairi said, "I know he's alive, we're trying to find him. I went to sleep, for a year. I wanted to search myself for a lead to find him. By doing that, I went to a place where the dead could reach me. And I met someone…"
"Your uncle," Hinata said in disbelief. She didn't believe it when Naruto told her.
"He was, stiff and crabby, with long pretty hair," Kairi described.
Definitely Big brother Neji.
"He said, I was his family and that someone was waiting for me," Kairi recalled, "He taught me how to use the Byakugan and the Gentle Fist technique. By training me, I strengthened my chakra. And that broke the seal on my memories," she looked back up at her Mom, "I've been looking for you ever since."
Hinata pulled her into a hug. Neji… Thank you.
Kairi winced in pain.
"Kairi?" Hinata looked down worried.
"My eyes are killing me," Kairi said as she rubbed them.
Hinata thought about What Kairi said, "Was the fight with the Otsutsuki, the first time you fought with your Byakugan?"
"I guess it counts," Kairi recalled at the sparring she did with Neji.
"Don't rub them, it makes it worse," Hinata pulled her hand away and activated her own Byakugan to look at Kairi's eyes, "It looks like they're strained. You need to rest them for a few days."
"Alright."
"What happened to Luxu?"
Kairi then realized, she never asked that question.
"I don't know," Kairi said, "He left and never came back when he left me on the islands," Kairi recalled the Organization, "We might have fought him during the war, but I can't say for sure." Kairi should have asked that before. What did happen to Luxu, was he a member of the Organization they defeated? Did Xehanort know anything about this?
"Alright, I guess we'll figure it out later," Hinata sighed, just trying to be happy Kairi was home.
"Where's my friend, Riku?" Kairi asked.
"That boy?" Hinata looked perplexed, "Something strange happened… A shooting star… fell from the sky, then a talking mouse appeared. Then they rode away on the shooting star," Hinata was couldn't believe she said that with a straight face.
"Oh, the King," Kairi nodded understanding, "I'll call Riku later and figure out what he's up to."
"Does things like that happen often?" Hinata asked.
"Not to often," Kairi said, "But often enough that it's not weird anymore."
Hinata did not know what to say about that.
"Well, I'm glad you're back and you're awake," Hinata said, "Your Father wants you to spend the next few days here. He just wants to make sure you're okay."
"All I did was fight, monsters from another world. That's my job," Kairi sighed. She thought back to her Dad, "Am I going to see Dad soon."
"He promised he'd visit as fast as possible," Hinata said, "He was going to wait here with me originally, but he had work. Shikamaru had to drag him out."
Kairi nodded, "It's fine, I don't remember everything, but I remember being Hokage is a big deal."
Hinata was glad Kairi understood, "I need to take Himawari home," Hinata said.
"Go ahead, I promise I'll be here later."
Hinata hugged her, "Promise?"
Kairi hugged her back, "Promise," Kairi said.
"Alright," Hinata pulled back, "I'll let Sakura know you're awake, so she can look you over," Hinata got up and started leave the room. Just as she was leaving, she looked back at Kairi one more time, "I'll be back soon."
Kairi nodded, "Okay, bye Mom."
When the door closed behind her Mother, Kairi laid back down. She just broke the World Order rule. Her Mom did say they encountered threats from other worlds before. Really needed to ask her Dad about that. Maybe Kairi wasn't in so much trouble. The Keyblade couldn't help it if people found out about other worlds on their own. Not to mention, she needed to figure out what happened to Luxu? Was he part the Organization? She could barely remember him and he never showed his face to her. Kairi didn't like not knowing. Apparently, they still had a loose end to tie up… speaking of, whatever happened to Pete and Maleficent?
The door opened, revealing the pink haired doctor. Kairi sat up to look at her.
"Hello, Kairi," Sakura approached her with a smile.
"Hello," Kairi said.
Sakura got closer, "Kairi, do you remember me?" Sakura hoped, "From when you were little, I mean?"
Kairi looked down a little nervous, "A…. Aunt Sakura… you used to visit us at our house."
Sakura smiled. She then leaned down and hugged Kairi. Kairi was surprised, "I'm so glad you're okay."
Kairi gave her a hug back before pulling away, "So, how are you feeling. Hinata told me you pushed your Byakugan too much."
"My eyes do hurt, and so does my head," Kairi confirmed.
"Okay," Sakura gently pushed her to lay down, "Let's see if we can fix that." Sakura then placed her hands on the side of Kairi's head. Her hands began to glow and Kairi felt something gently flow into her head. Kairi tensed at the sensation, "Just relax Kairi."
So, Kairi made herself relax. The sensation still felt strange, but not bad. And her headache began to dull.
"Why didn't you tell me it was you?" She heard Sakura ask.
"I wanted my family to know I was back first," Kairi answered, "I arrived that day. Imagine my surprise to find Boruto in the finals. I was going to wait till it was over. Win or lose I think Boruto would had been happy to see me. I was going to surprise everyone, but then Boruto got in trouble and the Otsutsuki showed up and… you know the rest."
"I understand," Sakura said, "Boruto has been looking for you for months now."
"Nice to know someone was still looking for me."
Kairi didn't realize she said it out loud until Aunt Sakura answered, "Your parents wanted to keep looking for you Kairi," Sakura explained ashamed, "They stopped because we convinced them to stop."
Kairi was silent.
"Kairi, we thought you were dead. We looked everywhere, we didn't realize-…"
"Thank you," Kairi said.
"Huh?"
"Boruto and Himawari needed Mom and Dad," Kairi said, "They couldn't spend all their time looking for me."
Sakura knew Kairi was just trying to be a good sister and daughter, "They never stopped loving you Kairi."

The shooting star bounced through cosmo's until it landed at the Mysterious Tower. The light died down, revealing Riku and Mickey.
"Well that just happened," Riku sighed, "Why did the Star Shard bring us back here?"
"I don't know," Mickey said, "It has a way of acting strange. Maybe-…"
Both Keyblade Masters sensed something behind them, they looked to see a portal was forming. They both turned and summoned their Keyblades; ready for a fight. Someone stepped through. Riku's eyes widened as he lowered his Keyblade, "You? How did you get here?"
"You know him?" Mickey asked.
"He's…" Riku tried to explain, "The friend of Kairi's Dad."
Sasuke looked between the two and looked around, "Well. This is… new…"
The last chapter made me think, what if there was a tag team battle between Sora and Riku against Naruto and Sasuke. Not the fully power adults in Boruto, but somewhere around the end of the Fourth war.
