"Beep, beep, beep…"

Yang grumbled and turned towards her bedside table, switching off her phone alarm and going back to sleep.

45 minutes later...

"Beep, beep, beep…"

"Ugh! Stupid alarm", thought Yang. She peeked an eye open and glanced at her phone.

"9AM?!" Yang exclaimed and jumped out of bed. She had a class at 9.30am! Hurriedly dashing to the toilet and brushing her teeth, Yang mentally cursed the existence of all morning classes. She ran back to her dorm room and haphazardly threw on a random outfit. Grabbing her brown leather jacket, she slipped into her black boots and dashed out.

"Shit, shit, shit," she thought to herself as the lift was taking ages to come. Why was it stopping at every floor?! Oh, right. It was morning peak hour. Damn it! After what felt like 5 minutes (though in reality it had only been 10 seconds), she decided that using the stairs would be faster. Yang launched herself down the stairs 2 steps at a time and reached the dining hall. She grabbed a sandwich (she'd never miss a meal even if that would make her late) and started sprinting towards the Faculty of Business, where her next class (RE3591: The Economics of Real Estate Valuation) was held at. Yang glanced at her watch, "Okay, it's 9.20am, I've just gotta keep running the entire stretch and I should just about make it in time".

Yang screeched to a halt right outside the lecture theatre to prevent herself from bursting through the doors, then silently thanked the Gods who invented the air conditioner as she was now sweaty from the morning's unexpected workout. Running in boots did not help either, as they added quite a bit of weight to her feet and made the run more tiring. Scanning the lecture theatre, Yang spotted her friends Neptune and Sun at their usual spot near the back. Relieved, Yang plopped herself down in the seat next to her friends. "Whew! Thanks for saving a seat for me guys. Almost didn't make it in time".

Her blue-haired friend turned to her and laughed "Pfft, Yang you're always late. Slept in again huh?"

"Late?! I'm not late! I'm..." Yang glanced up at the clock which just striked 9.30am, "...on time! Ha!"

"Yeah yeah, sure Yang. All the other seats have been completely filled. If not for Nep and I, you would have had to sit in the 1st row," Sun chimed in, gesturing to the front row reserved for the latecomers.

"Honestly, I wouldn't really mind that... Winter is pretty hot, I wouldn't mind getting a close up," Yang joked, "But what's more important is that I'm not late! Whoo!" Her friends shook their heads and chuckled, as their professor started the lecture.

Taking out her laptop, Yang diligently took down notes while Professor Winter Schnee was explaining how to calculate the valuation of commercial properties. Yang liked the way the young professor conducted her lectures; she always explained difficult concepts in a way that was easy for laymen to understand. The majority of the cohort were in agreement that Professor Winter Schnee was one of the best lecturers in the department. She was kind and adept enough to always address her students' concerns well.

After the professor explained a particularly difficult topic, Yang raised her hand and asked, "Hey Prof Winter, why do we not use this formula for residential properties? Why limit this method of calculation only for the commercial areas?"

Winter Schnee looked thoughtful and answered "Good question, Xiao Long. See, we do this because there are many factors that affect the commercial versus residential properties differently. For example, between a shop and a flat of the same size, the shop would be easier to rent out, assuming everything else is equal. Does that answer your question?"

"I see… Yes, thanks Prof Winter!" Yang smiled.

"Hmph, showoff," a fuming Weiss Schnee thought to herself, "That Yang Xiao Long thinks she's so smart… Let's see what she thinks when I ace the finals for this semester." Like Yang, Weiss was also a 2nd Year Real Estate student at Beacon University, and was attending the same class. Although it was awkward with her sister Winter being the lecturer for the class, Weiss had no choice but to deal with it since this class was a compulsory module to take. The fact that Yang Xiao Long was in the class did not help either.

Oblivious to Weiss glaring at her, Yang jotted down whatever Professor Winter said and continued listening to the lesson. However, midway through the lecture, due to her lack of sleep, Yang's mind began to wander.

"I wasn't dreaming when they told me you were gone..."

The voice of the mysterious girl made itself at home in her mind and refused to leave. Yang struggled to focus on the lecture but was fighting a losing battle.

"Hey guys," she whispered to Sun and Neptune, "This may sound strange, but I heard someone singing in the shower yesterday and it sounded amazing, and now it keeps replaying in my head! I need to find out who it was. Know any good female singers on campus?"

"Are you high Yang? The only music I heard while showering last night was Neptune's symphony of farts in the cubicle next to me!" Sun snickered. Yang elbowed him in the ribs and angrily whispered, "Be serious! This girl was singing in the shower and I tried to talk to her through the cubicle but she ignored me and left! I still don't know who she is or what she looks like!"

"Aww Yang that sucks. Maybe she'll be there again tonight in the shower? Hopefully you'll bump into her again", Neptune suggested, empathetic to Yang's situation.

Yang hoped he was right. All of a sudden, Yang was looking forward to showering tonight, however weird that sounded. She needed to place a face to the mysterious voice.
