Blake headed to the shower, relieved to find that it was empty. From her observations over the past semester, she had noticed that the bathroom was typically empty at 6pm, since everyone was still having dinner at that hour. Despite knowing this for a fact, every time Blake found the bathroom empty she would still experience a small thrill, especially since her previous run in with Yang. It wasn't that she had anything against the girl; she just enjoyed using the rare moment of privacy to sing without fear of judgement.
In the mood for rock, Blake started singing "Bring me to Life" by Evanescence as she started her shower.
"How…. Can you see into my eyes like open doors?"
This song had a special place in Blake's heart; she first discovered it as a young angsty teenager, and this song spoke to her soul like no other could. There were times when she felt no one else would ever get her but this song always made her feel less alone. Her mother used to complain every time she heard Blake listening to rock songs on the radio due to their harshness on faunus ears, but Blake didn't care, music being one of the only two things she found solace in (the other thing being good books, of course).
"Leading you down, into my core, where I've become so numb…"
Unbeknownst to Blake, Yang had entered the bathroom, getting ready to shower earlier than her usual time. She had ended her workout prematurely at the gym as she had been hoping to catch the mysterious singer whose voice had been haunting her daydreams. As Yang stepped in, she was elated to hear the melodious voice from the previous evening singing one of her favourite songs from Evanescence.
"Without a soul…. My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold! Until you find it there, and lead it.. Back… home."
The mysterious girl was singing the chorus and Yang was getting pumped listening to it.
"Wake me up inside, wake me up inside-"
"SAVE ME!" adrenaline pumping in her veins, Yang joined in the song excitedly, belting her voice at the top of her lungs.
Startled, Blake jerked her head up, her heart beating in her chest. As a faunus she prided herself on her impeccable hearing and yet now for the second time she was caught off-guard by not having heard anyone enter the bathroom! She stopped singing immediately.
In awkward silence, Yang realised that she had caused the mysterious singer to stop. "Hey… um… sorry… I didn't mean to interrupt you. I was just so stoked that someone was singing one of my favourite songs which I hadn't heard in a while, and I jumped straight in without thinking. Heh. Sorry if I scared you. I'm Yang by the way."
Blake blinked. Oh. It was Yang who crashed her shower time again? Scrambling to come up with a response in light of this revelation without revealing her identity, all she could squeak out was "Oh… h-hey. Don't worry about it."
Yang's heart raced upon hearing Blake's voice. Wow, even her speaking voice had a honeyed, mezzo texture that was rather soothing to her ears. "Please go ahead and continue, sorry for interrupting you. I'll just continue my shower in silence," Yang chuckled.
After a moment of awkward silence, Blake quietly added, "By the way, Bring Me to Life is one of my favourite songs too."
"I know, right? It's such a great song to jam to! And the lyrics really speak to me too, you know? Like sometimes when you're in a bad place and you really need someone to bring some light back into your life." Yang exclaimed, beaming. "I think I heard you sing last night as well. I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but that song you were singing, Red Like Roses Part II, is also pretty dope!"
"Oh? I'm surprised you know the song, not many people watch RWBY," Blake thought that she was the only one who liked to watch RWBY. She had tried to get Weiss into it as well, but the white-haired girl was just not into animated shows in general, citing it to be a "childish waste of time".
"Yeah, are you kidding me? RWBY is one of my favourite series!" Yang was excited as well as none of her friends watched RWBY. She had tried to get Sun and Neptune into it but the duo would rather watch old crime documentaries, saying that they needed to "improve their sleuthing skills". Nerds.
"That's cool. We should watch it together when the new episode comes out," Blake mentioned enthusiastically, shocking herself. Did she really just invite this girl, a total stranger, to watch a show with her?
"Sure! I would love to! I have to study for finals though, so maybe after the last paper next Friday?"
"Sounds good," Blake replied. Since Blake was done with her shower, she turned off the tap and headed out of the bathroom and bidded Yang goodbye. "It was nice to talk to you Yang, see you around."
"Hey wait! I still haven't gotten your name!" Yang exclaimed, but it was too late, as signalled by the bathroom door closing. Crap. Oh well, at least I got to talk to her! Yang thought to herself, Hopefully I'm able to catch her again next time. She continued her shower, humming to herself.
Blake walked back to her room with a big smile on her face. Talking to Yang was nice, despite Weiss' warnings ringing in her head that Yang only hung out with the popular students. Blake wasn't completely sure about actively hanging out with Yang just yet, but she wouldn't mind bumping into the blonde again.
A/N: Hehe, the "SAVE ME" interjection by Yang was my S/O's idea... yeah you're brilliant and you know it lmao.
The next chapter is possibly my fave chapter so far, stay tuned! :~)
