The Great Ice Cream Quest
Hinata woke up. It was time to start the day. Hinata had fallen into routine when she became a mother. She'd get up, get dressed and start breakfast. Usually, she'd have to make Naruto's breakfast to go since he was always busy. She'd start breakfast, then she'd wake up Boruto and Himawari.
Hinata of course needed coffee first, before she could do anything. She was half asleep as she walked towards the kitchen. She would never let her kids see her like this, tired and slightly out of it.
She was just wondering what she should make when she heard rustling in the kitchen. That put Hinata on edge, no one else in her family had the energy to wake up in the morning; so who was in her kitchen.
She ran in, to face the intruder, and stopped. Kairi was standing at the counter, cracking eggs into a bowl. Kairi looked up and smiled, "Morning Mom. Sleep well?"
Hinata blinked as everything that happened the past few days finally caught up to her; and then she remembered that Kairi was home. Hinata smiled as she joined, "Yes, what are you making? Let me help."
The two women made breakfast for the family. Hinata tasted some of the food Kairi made, "This is very good."
"Thanks, my foster Mom let me help out in the kitchen as a kid," Kairi explained.
Hinata smiled sadly, "I honestly thought you coming back was just a dream, yet here you are. I'm keep thinking, 'Any minute now, I'll blink, and she'll be gone again.'"
Kairi looked at her mother deep in thought. Kairi gave a reassuring smile, "Hey, don't worry. I'm not going anywhere for a while."
Hinata smiled.
Their moment was ruined when two sets of screaming rang through the house. Both Kairi and Hinata ran to the doorway to see Naruto and Boruto the door.
"I'm late!" Naruto shouted.
"That's what you get for playing video all night," Boruto stated as they both ran out the door.
"I didn't see you saying no…" They continued the conversation out the door.
"Is that how mornings normally go here?" Kairi asked.
Hinata just laughed, "Why don't you go wake your sister."
"Alright," Kairi made her way upstairs, "More for us then."
Kairi quietly entered her sister's room. Himawari was sleeping, snuggled with her teddy bear.
She's so cute! Kairi mentally squealed.
"Hima," Kairi whispered her nickname as she gently shook her, "Hima time to get up."
"Mm…" Himawari sat up, she looked at Kairi and smiled, "Big sister…"
The Uzumaki sisters were soon eating dinner with their mother.
"I think we should go shopping today," Hinata said.
"Okay, for what?" Kairi asked.
"You," Hinata simply said.
Kairi looked confused, "Me?"
"That's right, you're going to need some new clothes, for starters," Now that Kairi thought about it she slept in one of her mom's old pajamas.
"We don't have to," Kairi was about to protest but stopped. Shopping with her Mom, that was something Kairi didn't get to do with her. It would be nice, "Okay, that sounds nice. We shouldn't go overboard though."
Hinata smiled.
"I can't wait," Himawari said.
%%%%
"Didn't I say we shouldn't go overboard?" Kairi asked as they carried several bags of new clothes. Her Mom and sister just smiled.
Hinata learned quite a bit on this trip. First, Kairi still loved pink. Second, she had more confidence in her appearance than she did when she was her age. While Hinata preferred wearing large jackets when she was younger. Kairi was more prone to form fitting shirts and dresses. Hinata thought Kairi looked good everything, she was just surprised Kairi was so confident in her appearance. She must had gotten it from Naruto.
Kairi noticed an ice cream shop and stopped. She had been meaning to check something, "Can we hold on for a minute?" Kairi asked.
"Yes, why?"
"I just want to check something," Kairi walked to the ice cream shop and looked over their menu.
"I see she still loves ice cream," Hinata said. They followed Kairi over and saw she had a frown.
"They don't have my favorite here," Kairi said.
Hinata looked at the menu, "They still have strawberry."
"Oh, not that," Kairi said, "I still like strawberry, but it's not my favorite."
Hinata looked at Kairi, "Then what is your favorite?"
"Sea Salt ice cream," Kairi answered.
Both Hinata and Himawari looked at her confused.
"I've never heard of it," Hinata said.
Kairi sighed, "Well, that sucks."
"Is it good?" Himawari asked.
"Yeah," Kairi nodded, "It comes as an ice cream bar. It's salty but sweet at the same time, it's so good."
"So good."
Kairi jumped before turning around, to see one of an overweight girl behind her. How did she get so close?
"ChoCho?" Hinata said.
"ChoCho?" Kairi briefly recalled the name of Uncle Choji's baby. Kairi made a mental note to try to remember the other babies the adults had when she was little.
"That's me," the tan girl said as she looked at Kairi, "So you're Boruto's sister."
"I am," Kairi decided to try to be nice, "Are you Boruto's friend?"
"Well, we're more like acquaintances," ChoCho said as she ate a bag of potato chips, "We all thought he was crazy when he said you were alive."
Kairi released a dry laugh.
"So, what is this thing that is sweet but also salty," ChoCho asked.
"Sea Salt ice cream," Kairi explained, "I just realized they didn't sell it at this shop."
"Well, I know the locations of all the ice cream shops," ChoCho said, "I can take you to them if you'd like. They may sell it at one of those."
"I would like to check, but…" Kairi looked at her mom.
"You can go ahead," Hinata said, although she wanted to spend more time with Kairi. Kairi needed to get used to the village on her own, "Let's go Hima. Hima?"
Himawari had walked over to Kairi and held her hand, "I wanna stay with Kairi."
Kairi looked down at her sister, "You sure? Wouldn't you rather stay with Mom?"
Himawari just held on, "I wanna stay with you today."
Kairi looked back at Hinata, "Is that okay?"
"That's fine," Hinata nodded, "Just watch out for Hima, and be back home before dinner."
"I think we can do that," Kairi nodded, before looking at her little sister, "Right?"
Himawari held up a thumbs-up, "Yep."
So, the Uzumaki sisters, plus ChoCho, went looking for Sea Salt ice cream.
"Not here either," Kairi sighed after going to the fourth ice cream shop. It was starting to look like they didn't sell it on her world. Kairi noticed Himawari was sitting on a bench she was starting to look tired. Kairi felt bad, dragging her little sister around the village. She approached her sister, "Hima, do you want stop and go home?"
"Oh, no, I'm okay Big Sis," Himawari quickly perked up.
"That's right, we can't give up," ChoCho said, "When you are on a quest for a new delicious flavor. You must not let anything stop you from tasting it, otherwise your life will be bland."
"Heh, right," Kairi sweat dropped, ChoCho was really passionate about food. Kairi looked back down at Himawari, she wanted her to keep resting. An idea came to mind. She got in front of her and squatted down, with her back to her.
Himawari looked confused, "Huh?"
"This way we can keep looking while you keep taking a break," Kairi offered.
"Are you sure?"
"I'm stronger than I look, don't worry," Kairi assured. Soon, Himawari was riding on Kairi's back.
Kairi wasn't used to it at first but, she managed to get a good grip and walk with her sister on her back.
"So, Kairi," ChoCho began, "When's that handsome guy coming back?"
"Handsome guy?"
"Riku?"
"Oh," Kairi realized, "He said he'd come visit again soon, but he didn't say when." Kairi quickly thought about how ChoCho called Riku, handsome. Riku was handsome, and he was popular with a lot of girls back on the island. It would stand to reason he'd popular with some other world girls, but…
Kairi looked at ChoCho. Kairi didn't think Riku was shallow enough to reject a girl on the, heavy side, but he wouldn't date someone as young as ChoCho. He was basically a man and ChoCho was basically a kid. Maybe she could try to ease the tension.
"I don't think Riku's looking for a girlfriend," Kairi said, "He's focused on his duties."
"Well, we'll just see about that," ChoCho said.
Kairi sighed, poor Riku.
"By the way, when are we going to see your boyfriend?" ChoCho asked.
That caused Kairi to stop in her tracks for a minute, "Excuse me?"
"The one that proposed to you on that recording," ChoCho stated.
"Someone proposed to you?" Himawari asked behind her.
"Wait, you heard that recording, when?" Kairi panicked.
"In the hospital when Riku played it. We were outside your room."
"What were you doing outside my room-… wait, did you say 'we?'"
"It was just me, and my friends," ChoCho said.
"Could you tell me who heard that exactly?" Kairi asked.
"Well, there's me, there's Boruto, I swear I thought he finally lost it. There's Sarada, Inojin, Shikadai, Mitsuki, Denki, Iwabe, Metal, Sumire, Wasabi, and Namida," ChoCho listed, "I must congratulate you Kairi, on finding a man who wants to marry you."
"You're getting married," Himawari asked sounding excited.
Kairi groaned, so not only did Boruto know, but his group of friends also knew. She wasn't sure how much trouble this would cause, but something told her this was going to cause trouble. She had been hearing stories about Boruto's friends that made Sora sound like a perfect angel when he was at his worst as a kid.
The sound of applause in the distant caught Kairi's attention. She looked to see what looked a re-opening ceremony. It made sense, there were a lot damage from the Otsutsuki, so a lot of business's had to close down for repairs.
"And now for the ribbon cutting ceremony."
Kairi could see her Dad among those cutting the ribbon. Or at least his shadow clone. Earlier Mom told her that he used his clones to conduct things like ceremonies and oversaw issues.
"It's Daddy," Himawari said noticing.
"Yeah, it's Lord Seventh," ChoCho stopped with Kairi.
Kairi briefly wondered if she should go down to talk to him. He seemed busy though. He waved to the crowd as confetti fell around him. Then, he was gone in a flash. Before Kairi even had a chance to wonder where he was; he appeared in front of her.
Kairi took a step back in surprise, "Dad!"
"Hi, Daddy," Himawari said.
Naruto smiled as he saw his daughters. Kairi giving Himawari a piggyback ride; was something he'd thought he'd never see.
"I'm glad to see you two are getting along."
"Uh-huh," Himawari hugged Kairi's neck more.
"No complaints so far," Kairi said.
"Where's your Mom?"
"She went home," Kairi said, "Was this the thing you were late for this morning?" Kairi motioned to the ceremony.
"No, that was something else," Naruto said sheepishly, "I thought you're Mom, was going to take you to see your Grandpa, and Hanabi."
Kairi sighed. Earlier, her Mom talked about getting Kairi more training with her Byakugan and gentle fist, "She's still wants me to rest my eyes. And why do I need training? I kept up with them, didn't I?"
"You did, but training is just meant to give you new strength, but to maintain the strength you have. Didn't your masters teach you that?"
"They did," Kairi sighed again. Neji was a drill sergeant and she wasn't fond of the idea of learning from the clan that turned him into that.
"Hey Daddy," Himawari beamed, "Guess what, Kairi is getting ma-…"
"Ice cream," Kairi shouted. Realizing Himawari was about to say something she shouldn't, Kairi couldn't stop herself from shouting the first thing that came to mind. That caused everyone to look at her strangely, "I am… getting us ice cream," Kairi quickly said, she needed a way out and fast, "You see Dad, I found a new flavor off world, called Sea Salt ice cream. It's salty but sweet, it's really good. I'm trying to see if it's sold here in the village. And if it is, I'm going to buy a bunch and share it with all of us tonight. To make up for not being here!" Kairi quickly said.
"Well, that's nice of you Kairi, but I've never heard of that flavor," Naruto said.
"But, we're still going to try," Kairi said, "ChoCho, you said the next shop is up ahead right?"
"Yeah, it should-…"
"Then let's go," Kairi began running, "Bye, Dad, good luck at work!"
Naruto watched Kairi run off with Himawari and ChoCho, "She's hiding something," with that realization the clone poofed away.
"Himawari, you can't tell Dad, I'm getting married," after running a good distance Kairi set her sister down to talk to her.
"But ChoCho said, someone proposed to you," Himawari reminded.
"It wasn't like that," Kairi said, "It was a recording of a private moment," Kairi's face turned red, "I'm pretty sure he was getting himself worked up, so he could find his way home."
"So you aren't going to marry him?"
"I… it's… Hima, look. Yes, I like him, a lot. But, we're not even boyfriend and girlfriend… not yet, at least," Kairi blushed, "He's really far away, and, he's trying to find his way home."
"When he does, are you going to be his girlfriend?" Himawari asked innocently.
Kairi's face became redder, "Hima, it's complicated. Maybe… I haven't decided, but… until I decide, you can't tell Mom and Dad about this."
"But why?"
"I just got back, and I haven't told them everything about my life yet. I will, soon, but I need the right place and right time. I just… need time to figure out how I'm going to explain everything."
"But you said you liked him."
"I do, but it's not official, if he hasn't asked me out directly or if I haven't asked him out directly," Kairi explained.
"That's confusing."
"I know, I'm not good at explaining things. That's why I'm trying to figure it out how to explain things," Kairi said, "Just, please don't Mom and Dad. Especially Dad."
"Okay," Himawari agreed. She didn't get it, but she liked the idea of sharing a secret with Kairi.
It took all day, but they went to every ice cream shop in town, but none of them sold the ice cream Kairi wanted.
"I can't believe, they don't sell it," Kairi groaned, she was still giving Himawari a piggy back ride.
"Such is life, sometimes you must travel a greater distance for the flavors you want," ChoCho declared.
Kairi stopped when she realized they were walking by a craft store. When her eyes fell on the bead section, she went to take a closer look. They had so many beads of shapes and colors she didn't see back on the island.
"Do you like beads?" Himawari asked.
"I do," Kairi said, "I love crafting and making jewelry," she raised her hand to show Himawari her bracelet, "I made this myself."
"Wow," Himawari marveled, "Can you show me how to make one?"
Kairi nodded, "Sure, let's pick some beads you might like."

Naruto sat at his desk, eating some ramen. His clone's memory returned to him; the one that saw Kairi and Himawari. He was glad his daughters were getting along. He should have asked Kairi to borrow her gummiphone so he could take a picture. However, he still recalled how Kairi acted at the end.
"How's lunch?" Shikamaru asked as he walked in.
"Pretty good, almost done," Naruto said, "I saw Kairi with Himawari today."
"Really? They getting along?"
"Yeah, Hima loves her, and so does Kairi," Naruto smiled, "But Kairi acted a little strange. She said she was getting us ice cream and then ran off. It was weird to get excited over ice cream."
"She always loved ice cream, hasn't she?" Shikamaru asked.
"Yeah, maybe I'm reading to much into this," Naruto said.
"She just came back, give her time."
"Yeah you're right," Naruto began taking another bite of his noodles.
"Who knows, maybe she was running off to see her boyfriend."
Naruto spat out the noodles at the word, 'boyfriend.'
"What?" Naruto exploded, "Boyfriend?" She couldn't have a boyfriend! He just got Kairi back, she couldn't get a boyfriend, because that would lead to marriage, and she would leave him again! Not to mention no boy in the world was good enough for her!
Shikamaru flinched, "W-Well, she's at that age, it wouldn't be a surprise if she…"
"She's only sixteen!" Naruto declared, "She's too young!"
"You and Hinata started dating when you were seventeen."
"That was a different time, when peace was fragile and any day could be your last," Naruto stated.
Shikamaru realized that he might have just destroyed Kairi's dating life. It was only supposed to be a joke, "Look, we don't know if she has a boyfriend or not. And I think you need to calm down and take it one step at a time."
Naruto pouted, "Fine I guess you're right."
Naruto did seem to calm down, so Shikamaru took in a breath, "I mean it's not like you can make it illegal for boys to date your daughter."
"I can't?"

Namine was looking at the pictures of the Uzumaki's again. She couldn't help it. She kept wanting to look at them. At her… at Kairi's family.
Namine shook her head. She needed to stop that. Stop thinking of them as her family. They didn't even know she existed! And it would be better if it stayed that way.
Her phone pinged with a message from Kairi.
One drawback from being back home. They don't have Sea Salt ice cream. And I really wanted my family to try it.
Namine frowned. She understood, Sea Salt ice cream was addicting.
She looked up to the Bistro, and spotted Uncle Scrooge.
"Hm…" Namine thought of something, she got up to talk to him, "Uncle Scrooge?"
"Yes, lassie?"
"I have, a business idea, do you want to hear it?"
%%%%%
"It's so pretty," Himawari looked at her new bracelet.
"And you made it yourself," Kairi said. They were sitting at the table, making jewelry.
Hinata smiled, "Alright, you two need to clean up the table and help me prepare dinner."
"Okay," Himawari said.
Kairi nodded. She gathered up the stray beads and took them up to her room.
"I'm home," Kairi heard her father call from downstairs.
Kairi was walking down the stairs when she heard a knock at the front door. She answered and to her surprise, she found a moogle, holding a box, and clipboard, "Are you Kairi Uzumaki, kupo?"
"I am," as Kairi confirmed, Boruto walked through the front gate. He spotted the unusual creature.
"Please sign here, kupo," the Moogle offered her the clipboard so Kairi signed her name. She didn't know that moogle's made deliveries, "Thank you, kupo." The moogle then flew away, past a confused Boruto.
"Uh…" Boruto then ran to Kairi, "What was that?"
"That was a moogle," Kairi said, "They usually sell items from other worlds, but," Kairi looked down at the box, "This one delivered a package."
"Who's it from?"
Kairi and Boruto squatted down. The box said, 'McDuck Enterprise Delivery.'
"Uncle Scrooge?" Kairi asked.
"Who?"
"He's one of my friend's uncle," Kairi explained, "A business tycoon. He runs multiples business's last I heard he opened a Bistro in Twilight Town. I guess he's doing other world deliveries," Kairi got closer to read the tag, "It's from Namine."
"Who?" Boruto asked again.
"She's…" Kairi remembered how Namine reacted the last time they talked. Namine, clearly wasn't ready for her family to know about her, or at least, that Namine was another version of her. Maybe this was another thing she could ease in, "… a friend. A very good friend."
"Well," Boruto pulled out his kunai, "Let's see what she sent," he used it to open the package. Inside was a cooler, with a note.
Since they don't have it there, I thought I'd send you some.
Namine
Kairi opened the cooler, to find a stack of Sea Salt ice cream bars.
"Sea Salt ice cream," Kairi smiled.
"That weird ice cream you talked about in the hospital?" Boruto asked.
Kairi picked it up and went in to the kitchen, "Look at what my friend sent me," Kairi said.
"What?" Naruto asked.
"It's that weird ice cream, she keeps talking about," Boruto trailed behind her.
"Really?" Himawari ran up to the table.
"Boruto, don't knock it till you try it," Kairi pulled out one of the bars, "Look, try this one and I won't nag you to try it ever again."
"Fine," Boruto took the bar and unwrapped it. It was blue, he looked at it for a minute. It was a weird ice cream from another world. Well, he decided to see why Kairi liked it so much, so he stuck his tongue out and licked it.
His eyes widened. He gave it another lick. It was salty, but sweet. Not in a weird or gross way. In fact, it was pretty tasty. He quickly took a larger bite to get more. He then looked up at his family. His parent's and little sister were just looking at him. Kairi however, had a smug look seeing Boruto's reaction to the frozen treat.
"Um…" Boruto said not trying to lose face, "It's… alright I guess."
"I want one," Himawari quickly said.
"Well, if Boruto said it's good," Naruto also saw Boruto's reaction.
"Just one, we're having dinner in a minute," Hinata took one.
The rest of the family took a bite.
"Wow, this is good," Naruto said amazed.
"Yummy," Himawari melted.
"I see, why you'd want to get some," Hinata understood.
Kairi couldn't help but smile, "My friend Namine sent it to me," Kairi said, "You know, if it weren't for Namine. I don't think I would have found my home…"
Time for a serious Author's Note
To those who don't know, I also write Protecting Family and I will be putting the same note in there when I post the next chapter. This is me trying to handle it nicely. I've been receiving several mean and abusive reviews, for both of these fics. I'm not talking to the good followers who have supported me in this idea of Kairi being an Uzumaki, be she Naruto's sister or daughter. I thank you and appreciate your encouragement and your suggestions. However, I don't and won't accept any abuse. I understand that you love the Naruto and Kingdom Hearts. So, do I, that's why I write these fics. I won't tolerate people calling me stupid or retarded just because I wrote a few things differently. If you don't like how I see things or how I think they should be, then don't read my stories, I'm not forcing you. This is Fanfiction. It's not supposed to be accurate, it's supposed to be fun. This is how I have fun. If you're a guest and you write something just to insult me, I'm going to take it down. I'm aware that I can't take down a registered member's review, but I can block you from reviewing my stories permanently! I've already done it to four people already. I understand that you love your fandom and want to protect it, but I'm not attacking anyone's fandom or ship. I stay out of those because I've seen how toxic they can be. I just do my own thing, and I'll keep doing my own thing. If you don't like it, then don't read it. Again, thank you to those who have supported me, and I hope you keep supporting me in the future.
