Oh, It's Just Pete

How did this happen? Kairi was off to investigate to see if the Heartless really were there. If they really were there, then the world was in danger and the risk would be high! So why were Boruto and his friends trailing behind her as she walked down the path?

Oh yeah, Boruto blackmailed her.

"Are we there yet?" Boruto whined.

"We aren't," Kairi said, "We haven't even been walking that long Boruto. I thought you trained to endure long missions."

"I have but I'm bored," Boruto whined.

"Be alert!" Kairi scolded, "If you have time to be bored, you have time to analyze your surroundings."

"Yeah," Sarada agreed, "Stop whining like a kid, Boruto. You were the one who wanted to come!"

"So, did you," Boruto reminded, "This isn't a mission, you didn't have to come."

"If the Heartless are real and they are here, then they're dangerous," Sarada adjusted her glasses, "We have to make sure of everything and we have to protect the one person who can protect us from them."

"Well, I'm pretty awesome, so I don't need protection," Boruto grinned.

"I was talking about Kairi."

"Hey! I'm strong!"

"A strong nuisance," Sarada said.

"Hey, I'm not a nuisance, I just know how to have fun. You're just a dull smartass."

"What was that?" Sarada asked irritated.

Kairi then smacked Boruto's head, "Boruto, you don't talk that way to a girl!"

Sarada grinned, "Yeah, Boruto where are your manners?"

"I'd have some if I saw you as a gi- Ow!" Kairi then grabbed Boruto's ear and pulled.

"Now, that is just to far, apologize to Sarada now!" Kairi demanded. Sarada laughed.

Mitsuki just smiled as he watched the scene.

After their hijinks. Boruto nursed his ear. He and Kairi were walking a bit further ahead. When Kairi thought they were out of hearing range she leaned down and whispered, "You know, there are better ways to flirt with a girl."

Boruto nearly tripped, "Wh-wh-wh what are-…" Boruto quickly kept himself from yelling, before whispering, "What are you talking about?"

"Sarada," Kairi whispered, "You like her, don't you?"

"What!" How could Kairi think that?

"Look, you're at that age when you start noticing girls, and Sarada is pretty and-…"

"She's just a friend!" Boruto whispered quickly, "And we were assigned the same team, its nothing like that!"

"Well," Kairi thought, "What about the girls on Aunt Hanabi's team? They were pretty."

"What- I- We- I don't-…"

Kairi inwardly smiled enjoying Boruto's flustered expression. He was so fun to tease.

"Oh you don't?"

"I don't!"

"Hm… Boruto," Kairi asked putting on a fake curious expression, "You're surrounded by all these pretty girls, why aren't you dating any of them?"

Boruto just stuttered and stomped ahead. Kairi laughed watching her brother being embarrassed.

"Boruto acting like a doofus isn't new," Sarada appeared next to Kairi, "But seeing him like this is easy to manage."

"I apologize for not being here and keeping him in line," Kairi stated, "I would have taught him how to treat a girl better."

Sarada laughed, "Don't worry, he would have been a handful if you were here anyway."

Kairi smiled, "You got so big, while I was away," Saying that made Kairi feel old, but she didn't know what else to say.

Sarada looked at her, "You remember me?"

"Yeah," Kairi nodded, "Your Mom used to bring you over when she visited us. Playdates with Boruto, or when she had to babysit us, or if Mom needed to babysit you. You were around a lot when she moved back to the village."

"Wait," Sarada asked, "We really moved to the village?"

"Yeah," Kairi said, "I remember Mom and Dad, bringing us to the Hokage's office. Your parents were there with you. I remember Dad acting like he knew them well. I just figured they were out on a mission or something. Now that I think about it, I don't think babies were allowed on missions though," Kairi reminisced.

"So that's how…" Sarada muttered.

"You okay?" Kairi asked, "Did they- your parents tell you that?"

"They don't… talk a lot about the past," Sarada explained, "Just that Dad's on a top secret mission."

Of course, it was Sasuke's fault.

"Well, don't worry about it," Kairi said, "I'm sure he can handle it. Sorry you had to tag along."

"Well, I'm going to be Hokage one day," Sarada declared, "I need to protect the village from any threats."

"Then I wish you luck," Kairi said, "I used to want to be Hokage."

"You did?"

"Yeah," Kairi recalled, "Dad told me grandpa was Hokage, and that one day he'd be Hokage himself. At the time, I just thought it would be natural for me to be Hokage too."

"But not anymore?"

"Don't worry, you don't have competition," Kairi said, "Only ninja's can be Hokage, and I'm not even that. I'm happy where I am."

"But you have the Byakugan."

"It's my power, so I decide what to do with it," Kairi said. Then she remembered, "You have special eyes too, right?"

"Yeah, my Sharingan," Sarada said, her eyes then turned red, with one tomoe.

"How is it different from my Byakugan?"

"I can't see through walls or have 360 degree vision like you. But I can see chakra, I can see almost any attack, I can even copy some jutsu after seeing it once."

"So, its for learning," Kairi deduced, "So, is someone from your clan teaching you? Mom's going to make me learn from my Aunt when she recovers."

Sarada's expression fell, "Actually, my Dad and I are the only ones left."

Kairi flinched, "I'm so sorry, I didn't know."

"It's okay. It all happened before I was born, so there's nothing to be sorry about," Sarada explained.

That meant the one who felt the loss was Sasuke. Great, now Kairi felt bad for him. That probably explained why he was so creepy.

"Does he ever talk about it?"

"He never brings it up, and I don't ask."

"I see," Kairi didn't know why, but that made her feel a little uneasy. Oh well, that could be a question for another day.

"Well, I can't speak for anyone else's family, just my own. If Boruto starts being a pain, let me know. I'll set him straight."

Sarada laughed, then looked at Boruto. Kairi didn't miss it. It was short, but Sarada smiled, a sweet sincere smile.

Hmm… Looks like my baby brother has an admirer.

"So, Kairi."

Kairi and Sarada yelped in surprise, when Mitsuki seemed to just materialize next to them.

"Where have you been all these years?"

"Mitsuki, did you have to sneak up on us?" Sarada asked.

"Well," Kairi began, "I was on another world," Everyone knew about the Otsutsuki so they knew about other worlds, Kairi was allowed to talk about them at this point, "It was a small cluster of islands. That's where I've been. Why do you want to know?"

"Oh," Mitsuki just smiled, "I don't care either way, but my parent was curious."

Parent?

"Are they anyone I know?" Kairi knew the parents of most of Boruto's friends. Some of them she could deduce from their appearances. Shikidai was the spitting image of his father, Inojin looked like his mom, with his father's smile. She didn't recognize Mitsuki though.

"You don't know him, but he knows you," he said a little too casually while smiling.

"Could you not say that while smiling?" Sarada asked creeped out.

"Hey guys," Boruto called, "I think this is the place."

Kairi quickly ran ahead and looked around. There was definitely battle damage. She recognized imprints in the ground that was made from a Gentle Fist Rotation. She didn't see any Heartless though.

No sign of Maleficent either. Was it all just a big misunderstanding?

"He he he," Kairi and the team looked towards the sound of eerie laughter, they saw a caped figure run through the trees.

"Hey," Kairi called, but they didn't stop. Kairi got annoyed and ran after them, "Wait a minute!"

"We just want to talk," Boruto called running after Kairi.

"Boruto, wait!" Sarada called as she and Mitsuki ran after them.

Kairi had a bad feeling as they ran after the figure. They didn't look like the Otsutsuki, but something felt off. Kairi activated her Byakugan, hoping to catch their chakra. But didn't have any. Wait, if they didn't have chakra, that meant they weren't of that world!

"Boruto," Kairi called, "Watch yourself. They're not from this world."

"How can you tell?"

"They don't have chakra," Kairi said, "All inhabitants of this world have chakra. However, people from other worlds don't. I should know."

Sarada activated her sharingan, "She's right!" Sarada said shocked. She never thought it was actually possible for people to not have chakra.

Kairi narrowed her eyes. This wasn't good. She kept her Byakugan active. She needed to keep an eye out for surprises.

Like that one.

"Duck!"

They all dodged a log that swung toward them.

Sarada was about to jump back again when Kairi shouted, "Don't there's a pitfall!"

Too late. Sarada's foot made contact with the ground, and it began to fall away. However, Mitsuki's arm stretched out and grabbed her hand. She was pulled to safety.

They heard more eerie laughter. It was clear there were more of them.

"They're surrounding us," Boruto realized.

"I can't see them!" Sarada exclaimed, her Sharingan couldn't pinpoint the people without chakra.

Kairi, however could. She saw three figures, activating the trap. A short one, a medium one, and a tall one. Looked at the Genin team. This wasn't Heartless, and those without chakra were usually straight forward. Maybe they could handle this.

"Do you all have lone range attacks?" Kairi asked.

They looked at her.

"We do," Boruto answered.

"I can see them," Kairi said, "When I say now, shoot at the direction I tell you."

"Alright," Sarada said, her hands went to a seal. Boruto brought his hands together and formed a Rasengan. Mitsuki looked like he was standing there, but Kairi could tell, he was just waiting for her cue.

Kairi took in a breath. She waited, the enemy was scurrying around like rats. Kairi waited for them to be in a good position.

"Kairi?" Boruto asked, getting impatient.

"Just a little longer," Kairi said gently. Her heart was pounding, the seconds that went by felt slow, until, "Boruto, Eight o'clock. Sarada eleven o'clock. Mitsuki straight ahead!"

Mitsuki raised a hand, "Snake lightning." Lightning shot from his hand ahead of him.

"Lightnin style: thunder ball," orbs of electricity appeared around Sarada and shot forth towards the direction Kairi pointed out.

Boruto threw the rasengan that turned invisible. A second later, three different explosions happened, then the three figures were thrown into the air and landed in a heap near them.

Kairi approached them.

"Who are these clowns?" Boruto asked when he saw them.

"Wait," Kairi recognized, "The Beagle Boys?"

"Who?" Sarada asked.

"You know them?" Mitsuki asked.

"I never met them specifically," Kairi said, "But my friends did," infront of them were the otherworldly villains, Pete's old henchmen. Sora and Riku told her about them. How at some point in the past, Pete used them to attack Queen Minnie, who was a Princess at the time.

Kairi didn't understand it all, but Sora said he became a Musketeer. And he learned a special oath.

Now wasn't the time to reminisce, she needed answers.

"Water," Kairi cast her water spell to splash water on the Beagle boys. That woke them up.

"What, who, where," The tallest one said.

"Hey!" Kairi snapped, getting there attention.

"Aw great," they said.

"You three know this isn't your world," Kairi stated, "What are you doing here?"

"Why should we tell you?" They taunted.

Kairi held up her Keyblade Wielder, "Because I'm a Keyblade Wielder. You're breaking the world order," her Keyblade began to glow menacingly, "And I need to maintain that order."

"Well if you must know, our old boss brought us back into the fold."

Kairi felt nervous, "Your boss."

"That's right girly!" Everyone turned around at the declaration. Standing there, was Pete, "Old Pete is back and ready to roll."

"Pete?" Kairi asked. After a brief pause, Kairi burst into laughter, "Oh, it's just Pete!" As Kairi laughed, everyone looked at her weirdly.

"Uh, Kairi?" Sarada asked.

"I thought it was Maleficent, or someone actually scary," Kairi laughed relieved.

"Hey!" Pete shouted angrily, "I can be just as threatening as Maleficent, or anyone!"

"Yeah right," Kairi said.

Pete squinted when he saw Kairi, "You're that twerp's girlfriend right?"

"She's not anyone's girlfriend!" Boruto declared.

Kairi ignored Boruto and answered, "Yes, Pete it's me, Kairi."

"What happened to your face. Did you stare at the sun too long or something?"

Kairi slumped at the mention of her face.

"Kairi?" Sarada asked.

"I know I look weird," Kairi said depressed, "I can't help it. I would look normal if I could."

"Oh, come on," Boruto said, "So you got whiskers and Hyuga eyes big deal."

"What Boruto is trying to say," Sarada interjected, "Is that, you resemble the best of both the Hyuga and the Uzumaki. You are very pretty and cute, and anyone," Sarada flashed a glare at Pete, "Who says otherwise is an idiot."

"Uh… yeah," Boruto said trying to make it better, "You look Mom, and she's pretty."

"What's with kids?" Pete asked.

"Kairi sighed, "Pete, this is my little brother Boruto and his friends, Mitsuki and Sarada. Boruto, Mitsuki, Sarada, this is Pete, one of my enemies who I have the misfortune of fighting because he can't accept that he's a loser."

"I'm not a loser!" Pete shouted.

"Oh, really" Kairi said, "I can't remember the last time you won. Now lets cut to the chase. Where's Maleficent? From what I heard, you two have been looking for some box."

"As if I'm gonna tell you."

"Kairi," Boruto looked at his sister, "Can I beat him up."

"Hm…" Kairi hummed, "I don't know. He's not really threatening, but it might be too easy and you could get bored."

Pete got more frustrated with the lack of respect.

"You brats think your so tough? Well I'll show you no one, messes with the Mighty Pete! Beagles attack."

The Beagles let out a war cry, but then they fell over with a grunt. Apparently, the Genin attack still affected him.

"Is that all they got?" Sarada asked.

"The Mighty Pete and all his glory," Kairi said sarcastically.

Pete grunted in frustration, "Fine plan B. Heartless squad!"

In an instant, they were surrounded by Heartless. Shadows rose from the ground and Soldiers appeared from thin air.

Great, a real threat.

"Of course, he hides behind the Heartless," Kairi brandished her Keyblade, "Remember what I said at the beginning of this? Go, run to the village and get help!"

"What, but-…"

"Don't argue with me Boruto," Kairi snapped as her Byakugan activated, "I said go."

Sarada grabbed Boruto and ran. Mitsuki trailed after them, as Boruto struggled, "Sarada, let me go."

Kairi turned back to the Heartless, now that they left, Kairi could focus.

I've set up a poll and the question: is Pete just as scary as Maleficent?

Just kidding!

The Poll is: Should the Heartless have chakra.

PHL360 and I couldn't decide
