Ah crap, what just happened? Did we scare her away? Yang's mind was racing as she sat rooted to the floor, dumbfounded.
"Yang, what are you doing?! Go after her!" Ruby's voice cut through Yang's thoughts like hot knife to butter.
"Rubes… I don't know what to do. What if things are too awkward now and chasing after her will only make it worse?" Yang asked hesitantly.
"Sis, come on, you said that you really like Blake right? So go after her! Tell her how you feel, so both of you won't be in this awkward limbo anymore," Ruby advised, "And don't worry about it being weird. From an outsider's point of view over the past few hours, Blake is definitely into you too. So go!"
Yang was surprised that Ruby was so perceptive, it seemed that her younger sister had indeed matured over the past year. Mulling over what Ruby said, Yang realised that her advice made sense. Yang nodded slowly as she decided to finally confess her feelings to Blake.
Giving a quick thank you to Ruby, Yang got up and ran out of her room, hoping that Blake was still nearby.
"Hey Blake, wait up!" startled by the heavy footsteps and voice, said raven-haired girl whipped her head around to look behind, only to find a certain blonde chasing after her, panting. Unsure what to do, Blake stood rooted to the spot.
Upon reaching Blake, Yang said, "Hey... Sorry about what happened back there. Ruby can be a bit blunt, that girl has no filter sometimes. Sorry if she made you feel uncomfortable."
Shaking her head, Blake tittered, "No, it's not that. Though I appreciate you coming after me. I know I left pretty abruptly," Blake replied sheepishly. She couldn't bring herself to tell Yang what was really bothering her though. How can I possibly tell you that there is some truth in what Ruby said... That I actually have feelings for you? There's no point in that, is there? You probably have dozens of suitors lined up and are always in the spotlight, while I like to live in the shadows. There's no way you possibly have any interest in me. "I guess I'd better go-"
"Wait," Yang gently reached out to touch Blake's arm, "Blake. I… I need to tell you something."
Curious amber eyes met nervous lavender eyes, and Blake's heart rate shot up, unsure of what the blonde would say next..
Seeing that she had Blake's attention, Yang tentatively said, "Blake, I know this may seem a little out of the blue… but I can't deny my feelings any longer." Taking a deep breath, Yang declared, "I guess I can't really get too mad at Ruby because there is some truth behind why she said that. I like you, Blake. I… really like you. I've never met someone who I felt really saw and accepted the real me, but you did. You're just so smart, perceptive, confident, self-assured, and… not to mention, your singing is beautiful." Yang let out a sigh of relief as she finally got her feelings off her chest.
However, a few moments passed and Yang realised that Blake was still silent. Yang felt her anxiety levels rise, and started rambling to make up for the lack of response, "But… you may not feel the same way, and that's totally fine! No pressure at all! And if you don't want to be my friend anymore, I totally understand, this may have just made things weird-"
"Yang," Blake's voice came across, putting a stop to Yang's spiral, "I… have feelings for you too." Upon hearing this, lavender eyes locked onto shy amber ones, and both faces flushed a deep red.
"Oh, ah, wow! Cool!" Yang scratched the back of her head sheepishly, unsure how to react. She was preparing for the worse, after all. "That's good to know." The pair smiled at each other coyly. Both of them were relieved that their feelings for each other were finally out in the open, and revelled in the sweet, newfound knowledge that they were reciprocated in turn.
After a solid minute of staring into each others' eyes, basking in each others' presence now that their 'secret' crushes on each other were finally out, Yang decided to speak again, "So, uh, I'm still in shock, honestly. I never would have realised that you liked me, you didn't really give any signals!"
"Neither did you," Blake retorted coolly.
Chuckling, the blonde reached for Blake's hand and squeezed it good-naturedly. "Touché. Well, I'm very unprepared, but would you want to go on a date with me tonight?" Yang asked hopefully.
"Hmmm…" Blake pretended to think, tapping her chin lightly. Seeing Yang's anxious expression, Blake decided to end her torture, "Of course Yang, I would love to," Blake replied, smiling.
A huge grin broke out on Yang's face, "Deal! Let's meet at 7pm? I'll come by your room."
Blake nodded, internally screaming I can't believe I'm going on a date with Yang!
Yang frantically dug in her closet for something nice to wear for her date with Blake. Throwing her clothes over her shoulder, Yang's room looked like World War 3 had just happened. "Oh my gosh, I have nothing to wear! Rubes, help!" Yang screamed.
Ruby's head emerged from the avalanche of clothes, as she gasped, "Sis, calm down! What are you talking about? I'm literally BURIED in your clothes! Besides, I'm sure Blake would prefer to you without clothes-"
"RUBY ROSE!" Normally, Yang would be unaffected by these sorts of comments and would laugh them off with her friends, but with her baby sister, things were different.
"Okay, sorry, geez… so testy." Ruby trailed off, before perking up, "How about that brown leather jacket? That would go great with your brown knee-high boots! And.. that yellow tank top works! Shows that you're laid back, but not too casual too!"
Taking Ruby's suggestion, Yang donned her tight yellow tank top, showing her ample cleavage. Throwing on her brown leather jacket, paired with her black leather pants and thick brown belt, Yang honestly looked like a rockstar. Even Ruby jokingly let out a low whistle, "Woah sis, looking good! If you add in those shades, you'll look like the lead singer of a rock band!"
"Heh, thanks Rubes. Without you I'll probably be freaking out in my underwear and thinking about cancelling the date right now. I'm so nervous!" Yang said.
"Relax, you'll be fine! You and Blake have already established that you like each other, and it's not like this is your first date ever… why so jittery?" Ruby teased.
"Ruby! This is different! I actually really like Blake. Like, I can already imagine coming home to our little cottage with a nice, green field out back and walking in to the smell of her taking her signature baked fish out of the oven. We'll have three kids, 2 of them with black hair; one will love sports and the other music, while the one quiet blonde will have Blake's eyes and love reading, just like her…" Yang trailed off, her mind miles away in her sweet daydream.
Ruby let out a low whistle, "Wow this is the real deal, huh? Well, if you're already so sure, then all that's left is to enjoy the journey, sis. Don't sweat it, there's no rush."
Yang smiled at Ruby and ruffled her hair affectionately, "Thanks for listening to me ramble on and on Rubes. I think I'm feeling much better now that I've gotten it out of my system."
With the clothing crisis averted, the sisters hung out in Yang's room and chatted until it was almost 7pm. Ruby gave Yang a hug and wished her good luck for the date.
After bading their goodbyes, Yang put on her leather boots and made her way towards Blake's room, her heart thumping louder with each step. Glancing at her watch, she knocked on Blake's door just as the secondhand passed "12".
