"Hey Weiss. How's your break going?" Blake asked, staring at the moving image of Weiss on her screen.
"Hey Blake, it's been… tolerable." Weiss sighed through the screen, "Father has been asking me to perform for guests as if I'm a modern-day Mozart, but I really think I could go without listening to Don Giovanni ever again for the rest of my life. I've been singing so much recently I fear I'm starting to sound like a banshee," Weiss confessed dejectedly.
The monochrome pair were video-calling each other as Weiss was home in Atlas for the break, despite "preferring to stay in Beacon to start studying for the next semester". However Blake knew that the real unsaid reason was because Weiss hated being stuck in the Schnee Manor with her father constantly watching her every move.
"Well, if anything, maybe those performances are giving you more self-awareness. My ears have suffered years of abuse due to your screeching." Blake drawled. She was empathetic to Weiss's situation, having had her fair share of interactions with Jacques Schnee since she and Weiss started spending more time together in high school, but could never resist an opportunity to tease her dearest friend.
"You're a dunce, Blake Belladonna," Weiss said with a rather undignified eyeroll. "How have you been?"
"Well, things have been good," Blake replied, noticing Weiss' arched eyebrow at her usage of the word good. "Um… this is hard to say," Blake took a deep breath, not able to meet Weiss' eyes through the screen, "I went on a date with Yang yesterday."
After a long silence, Blake glanced at the screen, where she saw Weiss… or what seems to be a frozen image of Weiss, with her eyebrows knitted together.
"Um… Weiss? Did you get disconnected? Your face is frozen-"
The screen came to life all of a sudden and Blake almost fell off her chair at the sudden assault on her ears. "You what?! Wait… you're not referring to another walk in the garden right?" Weiss shrieked like the banshee she mentioned earlier. The sudden jerky movements were a sharp contrast to her previous frozen porcelain face.
"No… We had dinner at a nearby cafe," Blake deadpanned.
"...and?" Weiss pressed, knowing that the date wouldn't just end there.
"And… we slept together."
"YOU WHAT?! BLAKE BELLADONNA! Are you kidding me?! You do know that that blonde brute has probably had intercourse with dozens of people? What if she gives you an STD?! Are you insane?! Did you both get tested before you decided to… to… ?"
"Have sex?" Blake usefully supplied.
Weiss' already scarlet face took on an impossibly redder hue, and she ground out, "Yes… Also, sleeping on the 1st date?! What are you, in heat?!" Blake couldn't hold up the act any longer then and she started bawling over with laughter, tears forming in her eyes at how worked up she caused Weiss to be from a simple comment.
"What are you laughing at? Blake! Have you lost your mind? How is this funny?" Weiss hissed and huffed, annoyed that her raven-haired friend wasn't taking the prospect of possibly contracting a sexually-transmitted disease seriously.
"Weiss, Weiss, calm down! I was just pulling your leg!" Blake wiped the tears away from her eyes, still chuckling, "We just kissed. Nothing more than that, I promise."
Weiss glared at the still-giggling faunus, "You're awful, gleaning pleasure from trickery and deceit. I don't know why I'm friends with you, you insufferable idiot." She took a breath to compose herself and decided it was time for revenge. Clearing her throat and squaring her shoulders, she then looked Blake right in the eye (or camera in this case) and commenced her counter attack, "Right. So… how was the make out session? How was the pressure? The pacing? And was there tongue?" Weiss teased.
Now it was Blake's turn to get all flustered, "Umm, err, w-what?" Oh, how the winds have changed. Weiss cackled internally.
Weiss gave Blake a pointed look, "You know, you and blondie sitting in a tree, k-i-s-"
"Well…" Blake sighed. Two could play at this game. "It was amazing, Weiss. She's such an amazing kisser. You know the pressure was just right; soft but firm, and it was so sweet but passionate at the same time, and it was just the right amount of moist, and she did this thing with her tongue too, and ugh when she tugged on my hair…"
"Okay okay STOP! That's way too many details, ew." Weiss groaned and waved the proverbial white flag. "For what it's worth, I know she makes you happy, so I'm happy for you. But she'd better treat you well or I'm sneaking into her room when she's asleep and shaving her bald."
"I'll… make sure not to tell her that. You're scary. But wait, I thought you didn't like Yang? Why do you approve?" Blake asked, bewildered that Weiss would voice her support so readily.
"Yes, I don't like that.. bimbo," knowing Blake would defend her, Weiss raised a hand to stop her, "But I honestly haven't seen you this carefree and relaxed in a long time. And… I trust your judgement. You don't trust easily so it takes someone special for you to let your guard down." Weiss' face was tinged pink, as she was not used to showing emotions besides her usual icy demeanour.
"Awww, Weiss!" Blake beamed, "I love you so much. I would give you a hug if I could."
"That's alright, save it for your girlfriend," Weiss teased, amused at how red Blake's cheeks turned at that remark, "Though next time for the love of Barbara Hannigan please spare me the details."
"Oh! Speaking of singers - I told her I'm Nightshade. Apparently she'd already guessed."
"What? How did she guess? Oh hang on… I've got to go, Blake. It's dinner time and Father probably wants to pressurise me into singing at the annual Schnee Dust Company gala dinner," she groaned with an eyeroll. "But we need to catch up again soon. My life's boring as it is, the least you can do is let me live vicariously through you."
Blake chuckled and nodded.
"See you soon. Make WISE choices!" Weiss winked as she hung up.
Smiling to herself at her friend's witty pun, she realised that Weiss and Yang might have more in common than they thought. However, she was slightly worried by Weiss' predicament. Blake made a mental note to check in on her again later that night after her dinner. For now though, she was glad she shared that monumental development in her life with her closest friend.
A weight off her shoulders, Blake whistled happily as she got ready to head to a certain blonde's room.
