February 6, 1999
The cold crisp air of Forks was freezing in the winter. So cold that it bit the tip of your nose and numbed your lips to blue. If you lived in Forks, however, such a cold wasn't new to you. Some of the people of Forks even preferred it. Olivia Helen Swan or better known around as Livy was one of them. Olivia was a certified resident of Forks at the age of fourteen and if you asked her, she'll never like any place more than Forks. She loved how close to nature she was, the way that the trees lined around their small town, almost as if enclosing them in this small and safe bubble. She loved how everyone knew everyone, and how most establishments were a walk away. Forks is her home, that wouldn't change any time soon.
"Olivia! It's getting too cold out here! We should go back to your home and wait for your father there." Ms. Erica called from the bottom of the slide. She was new to Forks, previously living in New York. She was the type of person who hated Forks for its dreary aesthetic, and 24/7 cloudy skies. Ms. Erica came from a caregiving agency,
Olivia rolled her eyes at her babysitter. She believed herself as someone mature enough to be left on her own for a certain amount of time. At the age of fourteen, she took responsibility for half of the tasks at home considering her father didn't have time to do them. Like cleaning, cooking, and buying the groceries at times. Babysitters are rarely welcomed by her and the only reason she let them be was that it lessened her father's worry.
The girl sat at the edge of the slide, not exactly intending to slide down but just sitting there clutching onto her red jacket. Her pale face was a mix of purple and red from the wintery chill. A small pout was on her lips while her green eyes were fixated on the building two houses away. She could see it very well on her little perch.
"Just a bit longer, Ms. Erica! Dad said he's coming out at 4 o'clock and it's 3:54 now!" Olivia shouted. You see, she was waiting for her father to come out of work. He's the Chief of Police of Forks, something that little Olivia took pride in. Charlie Swan was a busy man, and yes, he wasn't always around to take care of her but there was no day where he didn't have time for his daughter. Most of that time was from four in the afternoon, spending an hour or two with his daughter before either going back to work, going to sleep or going off to Billy Black's house for some beer. Olivia never minded. She loved him and loved the small part of the morning where it's just the two of them.
"Olivia, can we at least go somewhere warmer? I'm sure your father wouldn't mind." Ms. Erica was shivering now, even the pile of coats on her couldn't stop the shivers of her body. Olivia noted that she'll live, if not with a small cold that would hopefully deter the woman from babysitting her for a few days. Right beside the playground was the treeline. Forks was a woods town which obviously meant it was surrounded by trees. Not many came near the treeline in fear of bugs or whatever prissy reason, so it was quite eye-catching to her to see a figure standing between the trees, seemingly facing her direction.
Ms. Erica was oblivious to the figure, but she simply couldn't ignore them. It was probably curiosity that pulled her to the person as if they threw an invisible hook onto her body and were tugging her to them. She couldn't see their faces, it looked like they had some sort of cloak on. Who wore a cloak nowadays? It wasn't like there was a kind of convention for them around. Hundreds of thoughts ran around in Olivia's head. The curiosity was an unstoppable itch in her head.
She hadn't noticed that she wasn't blinking, and her eyes began to sting in the cold, crisp air. Once she did, however, the figure was gone. Blinking again didn't bring them back. Was she imagining things? The itch was still there, getting more and more irritating. There shouldn't be any danger in checking out the treeline since the figure was gone. She turned to see if was looking (she was not) and with that in mind, Olivia slid herself down the slide and ran off.
"Forks Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating a fourteen-year-old girl, Olivia Swan. On February 6, 1999, she was last seen near the Forks park with her babysitter Erica Delos Santos, a twenty-five-year-old Filipino and also missing on the same day. Witnesses say that the girl ran into the woods followed by her babysitter, and both females have not been seen since 4 o'clock that afternoon. Olivia's father and Fork's chief of Police, Mr. Charlie Swan, notes that Olivia is five feet and four inches, weighs 113 pounds and has brown hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing a red jacket, white shirt, and blue jeans.
Ms. Erica Delos Santos is also five feet and four inches weighs 110 lbs, has tanned skin, dark hair, and brown eyes. Last seen wearing a pink parka and black pants. If you have any information on the two, please contact the Forks Chief of Police's office. The number can be seen down below."
