Update as of September 2019: Changed some dialogue and flow. Chapter plot remains the same.
OCs Summary list (will be updated every-time a name and/or quirk is added)
(?) Hoseki: General 1D. Has diamond like hair and skin. Runs a vlog on his everyday life in Yuuei that gets him in trouble a lot.
Yuu(s)ei Run!
"START!" Present Mic's voice rang as the sirens blew up to instigate the race. Almost instantly, no less than two hundred students immediately ran to the narrow exit tunnel.
Hitoshi squared his shoulders to protect himself but was still knocked out of balance by the students that pushed him from all sides. He tried to fight against the current that dragged him deeper into the crowd, but failed. Everyone was too closely knit together to allow anyone to get ahead. He scoured around the sea of people, searching for any familiar face but couldn't find any.
He briefly wondered how they were faring compared to him, and supposed they were also having a hard time. He stumbled on his feet, and was almost swallowed by the stampede. He pushed off a student that tried to climb off him and clicked his tongue.
He needed to get out of here, fast.
People cried as they are squished, decked, stepped, or are trampled all over. It reminded Hitoshi of a similar situation a few weeks ago when the reporters broke through the Yuuei gate. He blinked. What if he -?
The temperature inside the tunnel suddenly dropped, and Hitoshi saw his own breath form a cloud in front of his mouth. A thick sheet of ice quickly spread through the floor, trapping dozens or more students in their haste.
Hitoshi managed to vault over another froze student, and yelled in no one in particular. "Watch out for the ice!"
A couple of students reacted to his warning, and save themselves from being trapped like the other. They threw a quick shout of gratitude at Hitoshi, who then quickly took control of their consciousness. He feels three minds connect to his, and Hitoshi rolled upon hitting the slippery cold ice.
He gathered them around him, and climb over them. "Move."
Two students stumbled against his weight when they carried him towards the end. It was still slow progress, but at least he wasn't trapped in a suffocating space. He felt his control waver every time his new pair of legs bumped into another student, but he retained his hold. They had their orders, all Hitoshi needed was to maintain it.
"I ain't letting you get away that easy half n' half!" a familiar voice screamed after the ice quirked student.
Bakugou leapt into the air and set off a loud succession of explosions that propelled him forward. Shock waves behind his explosions threw some students back, while other cowered in fear at the embers that flew over their heads.
Bakugou quickly raced after the ice quirked student, and following his success, a girl flung herself over the crowd with a metal pole protruding from her hand. Other students, heroes, Hitoshi surmised, also followed their lead. They rose high and continued forward through the air.
It only took a few seconds for all the hero kids to take the lead.
A glitter of blue and yellow light sparked above Hitoshi's head, then it formed into a large horizontal blast that tipped Hitoshi off his mount. Hitoshi landed on his arm and the pain broke his mind's focus on the control of his helpers. Hitoshi cursed the bright eyed, sparkly blond haired teen that lost him his extra boost in height, and ran.
He couldn't afford to stop.
Before the light left by the kid's quirk could fully disappear, multiple platforms solidified in its wake. Hitoshi growled, annoyed at the familiar steps in the air. Fumei jumped through each step before they could shatter under his weight. He sent a salute towards Hitoshi then disappeared through the tunnel exit.
Not that far behind, Akusa raised a thick blanket of shadow from the ground and covered up everyone racing ahead of him. People screamed as inky black mass clung to their skin and dragged them down to their knees. Akusa leapt into the air and bounded over people's heads for faster travel.
Nagai managed to escape Akusa's trap by sticking his tongue on the ceiling and carefully maneuvering himself away from any and all floor immobilizing technique. He caught Akusa gaining speed behind them, and snapped a finger at Hadesu, who was busy burning through the shadow veil stuck on his foot.
"Be'fhind yu, Hade'thu!" Nagai warned, and Hadesu turned his attention at Akusa.
Hadesu made a crowning motion over his head, and his hair flared up in searing hot blue. He pushed the flames out to slow down their classmate, but fellow competitor, but was easily thwarted.
Akusa absorbed the flames in shadow, and knocked Hadesu out.
Hadesu fell on his knee with his fire head extinguished like his consciousness. Akusa caught Nagai's eye and mercilessly threw a blade at the formers tongue.
Nagai retracted his tongue, and fell to squat on the ground before the knife can cut him. He took off his shoe and chucked it at Akusa. He missed by a lot when a small grey colored pup hopped over his arm and messed with his aim. The pup barked, and transformed into a fully grown girl with silver hair.
"Okami!"
"Out the tunnel people!" Okami cheered. "Let' go, go, go!"
Back outside of the tunnel, there was practically zero visibility of the runway. Hitoshi swiped his hand through the dust that greeted him after he emerged out of the tunnel, and coughed. It was like waking up in a warzone without any idea of what was happening.
Hitoshi noted something glint in front of him that approached fast. He ducked just in time before a huge metal arm crashed into him. Someone blew away the dust with their quirk, and about a dozen or two Venator robots towered over them. Victory and Imperial robots were littered about their feet, also blocking any way out and forward.
Over the distance, Hitoshi could barely make out the even taller Executor 0 pointer villains from the entrance exam. "What the hell…" he sighed in disbelief as droves of students tried to break through with force.
"Too many!" shouted one student.
"There's no way past them!" cried another.
Hitoshi cursed. There was no way around them. He knew from experience that people with quirk stood no chance against the villain bots. If they were used here to cut their number off, then it would succeed greatly. Hitoshi curled his fist.
He refused to be defeated by them again.
He didn't need power for this, he needed to be smart.
"THE CURRENT LEADERS OF THE RACE ARE OVERWHELMINGLY FILLED BY MEMBERS OF CLASS A!" Present Mic's voice tore through Hitoshi thoughts, and reminded him of this levels pace.
He needed to think, and he needed to do it fast.
A loud BOOM shot down a zero pointer from his right, and people scrambled out if the robot's fall. A girl with up tied up black hair who wore her sports jacket open down the middle patted the canon beside her. "Piece of cake!"
"A path opened up!" another student screamed and tried to take advantage of this small victory. He ran between the small gaps, and was pushed back by 1 pointers. Students huddled together in terror, unable to do much on their own, but too afraid to act as a group as the robot closed in on them.
All of a sudden, the robots started to short circuit and explode for no reason. A zero pointer suddenly slipped on a dead robot, and lose its footing. It stumbled back to crush six three-pointers behind his back. The succeeding explosion threw people all over the place, Hitoshi included.
He rolled, dirtied and bruised as the commotion finally calmed down. When the dust cloud cleared, multiple people screamed for rescue under the rubble. He moved to help them but stopped halfway when he spotted a familiar hint of magenta hair.
"HO, HO?!" Present Mic commented in intrigue. "LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE IS TAKING OUT ALL THE ROBOT'S THERE WITHOUT BREAKING A SWEAT? WHO COULD IT BE?! ANOTHER STUDENT OF YOURS PERHAPS?"
Eraserhead said something incoherent behind his bandages, and was practically ignored by Present Mic even though he asked him first. The High-Energy hero leaned over the booth and screamed into the mic. "There's someone coming out of the rubble…WHO IS IT?! I'M SHIVERING IN MY TOES!"
Nusumi twirled out of the destruction behind her with arms raised triumphantly over her head.
"AH!" Present Mic gasped in recognition. "SACHIKO NUSUMI FROM GENERAL 1-C MAKES A SURPRISE APPEARANCE. ERASER THIS GIRL IS A RIOT! LUCK CHASES HER IN EVERY TURN, AND TODAY RINGS TRUE!"
Hitoshi clicked his tongue. Nusumi beat him - them to the prize. She got recognized first.
The stadium watched in abject horror as every step she took caused another robot to mysteriously malfunction and resulted in more harm than good. She giggled as more and more of the robots practically bowed down to her uncontrolled karma, and left her untouched.
Hitoshi walked around her pile of carnage. He didn't want to stick long enough to find out how much control Nusumi decided to keep with luck and fuck up his own chances. He slowly made his way through the destruction and was caught unaware by a pile of metal.
"Look out!" someone shouted, and Hitoshi stumbled just in time before a large metal foot could crush him under its weight. He growled at the robot and tried to find a way around it.
His problems were miraculously solved for him when a tall, perpendicular, blade of light kissed the ground and cut clean through the robot's chest.
Fumei soared high up in the sky with that infamous ecstatic grin on his face. He crouched on top of the metallic behemoth and crossed his hands together. Multiple blades caught the falling debris mid-air, and chopped it into smaller pieces. It showered over unsuspecting competitors, but didn't endanger any of them.
Hitoshi watched him flip over the dead robot, and scoffed. He was taking his advice seriously this time, huh?
"WHOA! WHO IS THAT?!" Present Mic shouted again, aghast. "HE CUT THAT ZERO POINTER CLEAN THROUGH!"
"A lot of talents showing off," Eraser Head commented. "But this is just the first obstacle. They should know better not to waste time with them."
"YOU HEARD IT FOLKS. AS AMAZING AS IT IS TO WATCH ROBOTS BE TORN APART, THIS IS TILL A RACE. GET MOVING, OR ELSE THE HERO CLASS WILL SWEEP THIS STAGE FASTER THAN YOU CAN SAY PLUS ULTRAAAAAAAAAAA!"
Hitoshi heaved and forced himself to reach the final steps of the hill before him. Their numbers have greatly decreased after the previous obstacle, and while only a few of them remain, plenty more would fail.
He looked over the next obstacle, a deep canyon with multiple, but evenly spaced pillars welcomed him.
"THE FIRST BARRIER WAS A PIECE OF CAKE?!" Present Mic sneered. "HOW ABOUT THE SECOND! FALL IN AND YOU'RE OUT! YOU GOTTA CRAWL ACROSS IF YOU WANNA MAKE IT! THIS IS THE FALL!"
Hitoshi gauged the route he could take. The ropes seemed the safest bet, but Hitoshi knew it wasn't the fastest one. This area required two things. Haste and careful consideration. He walked over the edge and kicked a pebble down down into the chasm. He listened for contact, and nothing.
If he fell, then it would be an automatic forfeit from the round; and by extension, the festival. Everyone else seemed to realize this and stood around figuring out their next move. All except for one.
"Hee hee hee…" a girl with pink hair chuckled. Her thick mechanical lined boots whirred to life as she took a step forward. "Here we go. Time for my support items to get the spotlight!"
"Wait!" shouted another pink haired with horns and black sclera for eyes. "She's allowed to have those things?!"
"You hero course have practical quirk training right?" goggle girl asked with a manic grin. "In the interest of fairness, as long as they're items and costumes we developed ourselves, using equipment is just fine. For us support students... This is the greatest opportunity to show off our inventiveness and craftsmanship to the industry!"
"Eyes on me all you corporations out there! Check out my adorable… BABIES!" A metal hook and line shot out of the sides of her metallic chest harness. It pulled her forward, and the girl screamed while she zipped through the air. She landed safely unto the next pillar and did a mini dance or triumph before going at it again.
"Cool…" Hitoshi enviously said. If such a rule existed, then Hitoshi would've taken Sensei's notes on equipping himself more seriously.
"That's not fair!" someone shouted
"The heroes trained for this and the supports have equipment! THE STATISTICAL CHANCES OF US WINNING ARE ZERO!"
"The truth is, everyone's all hyped trying to make it big here today," Present Mic continued his commentary from upper box. "Everyone's got a moment to shine! But only 46 students will be allowed to move forward! SO KEEP DOING YOUR BEST AND FOLLOW THE UNDAUNTED LEADERS OF THE PACK! THERE'S NO STOPPING THE CHILL AND COOL HEADED TODOROKI IN HIS FLAMING STREAK!"
Todoroki moved through the chasm, completely unfazed by its challenged, and hoped unto another rope to the finish. The ice on his right pushed him forward the ropes without effort. Completely stuck in his own headspace, Todoroki failed to notice a figure slowly gaining on him from above.
Fumei threw his hand down towards Todoroki and cut the rope the latter was on in half.
"WHAT'S THIS?! AN ACTIVE SABOTAGE TO STOP FIRST PLACE RUNNER FROM GETTING TOO FAR?" Present Mic ate up the controversy. "WHO IS THIS KID?! WHO IS HE!? Wait –" he squinted and gasped. "GENERAL 1-C ONCE AGAIN TAKES THE STAGE. NATSUAKI FUMEI HAS SET HIS EYES ON FIRST PLACE AND WANTS TO TAKE THE 1-A DOWN ON HIS OWN. HOW WILL TODOROKI ANSWER BACK!"
Todoroki nonchalantly threw his hand forward and created his own bridge of ice towards the final stretch of the second obstacle. He boosted himself towards the peak then raised a large block of ice towards his saboteur. Fumei's path shattered upon impact with the large wall of ice.
Todoroki turned on his heels and continued on.
Fumei clicked his teeth and brought his hands together to stop Todoroki's lead, but was met with a loud explosion to his right. "Not so fast, sunshine!"
"BAKUGOU TAKES DOWN FUMEI AND ASSUMED SECOND PLACE!"
Fumei dropped like a burnt ragdoll on the ground, while Bakugou caught up with Todoroki towards the third and last obstacle. Hitoshi felt himself inch forward a step, a little worried. Fumei wasn't standing.
"Oh hey! You're still in the game," Tatsumaki said in mild surprise.
Hitoshi shrugged. "I'm persistent."
"Right back at you," the green haired nodded. He took a few steps back and hopped before beginning a run-up. Hitoshi knew that move.
"Nusumi and Fumei already got a shout out from Present Mic, about time I made mine. See you in the finish, Shinsou!" The air picked up around them, causing a few students to scream at the sudden gust of wind that circled around Tatsumaki as he bolted for it. The harsh winds threw off a number of those that crossed the ropes, and sent them falling to their defeat.
Tatsumaki shifted his weight and the winds slowly lifted him off the ground. A large green colored pushed him halfway through the canyon. Its power gradually lost steam near the end of the drop, but Tatsumaki successfully landed on the other side.
Unfortunately, he came out to the other side unconscious.
Hitoshi almost felt bad, but he saw this mistake coming from a mile away. Tatsumaki never accepted the drawbacks of his 'special move' and kept using it anyway.
"Ah… Hatsume-san's so far away already," a meek voice said beside him.
It was a petit male with fluffy white hair and large round glasses. He carried a pack of assorted equipment behind him and fiddled nervously on his gloves. "Oh gosh… what was I doing again…?"
Hitoshi glanced down at the boy's oversized pair of shoes and silently wondered. His shoes looked nothing like the standard running shoes, and the last time he saw shoes that weren't normal, they stuck to the wall like it was made of adhesive. "Are you from the support course?" he asked with a soft endearing smile.
The boy looked up, and slowly stepped back. "Y-yes. I am."
"Oh? That's great. Me too."
"Eh? Really?" the boy blinked. "I- I don't think I recognize you thou –"
"Give me your shoes."
The boy fell into silent obedience, and took his shoes. Hitoshi studied the soles and noticed the bubble like material under it. Hitoshi wondered if they blew up or something… He tried them on and cursed. "Too small." He turned back to the support student and asked, "How does this work?"
The boy did not respond.
Hitoshi frowned. His quirk wasn't working. He asked the question again, but received the same response. Hitoshi clicked his tongue. "Fuck this, I'll figure it out myself." Hitoshi secured the boots around his feet the best he then released the kid from his control.
The white haired student blinked, utterly confused that he now lacked proper footwear. He looked at Hitoshi's feet and gasped in recall. "T- Those are mine!"
"I'll be borrowing them for a bit, good luck."
"Wait, give them back!"
Hitoshi kicked off the ground before the kid can catch him. The soles blew up and pushed him higher into the air than he's used too. Hitoshi tried to keep a level head as he slowly descended and bucked his knees to jump again. He soared even higher. Hitoshi felt a grin slither unto his face as he felt the wind comb through his hair.
He liked this feeling.
"MORE AND MORE STUDENTS PASS THE FALL AND ENTER THE MINEFIELD! THE FINAL LEG IS A DEADLY AFGHAN CARPET! ONLY THE SURVIVORS CAN MOVE FORWARD!" .
Hitoshi tried to build up speed as he leaped for the nth time. Almost there. He landed on his soles and felt one of the bubble pop under his excessive weight. Hitoshi careened off the side as he lost his balance, and desperately grabbed onto a dangling rope. The very same one Fumei cut off to stop Todoroki's pace.
He dangled helplessly, away from the audience's eyes, and struggled to keep his hold unto the line. He wrapped it around his arm and hauled himself up. He pushed against the wall, climbing up the rough terrain with careful thought.
He lost his grip on an unstable foot hold and missed the rope in his panic. Hitoshi fell down without a life line. The fear of failure loomed over him and Hitoshi almost gave up. A bright light suddenly showered above him, and Hitoshi cried in shock as his back hit something incredibly solid.
"Nice to see you drop by," Fumei grinned down at him from above.
"You're okay…" was the first thing that came out of his mouth. Fumei blinked, and chuckled.
"Aw, were you worried for me?"
Hitoshi cursed his thoughts and steadily climbed up the multiple platforms Fumei made to save his ass, again. Fumei glanced down on his feet and snickered. "Nice boots."
"They're for lease." Hitoshi kicked them off and jogged forward towards the last obstacle.
It was a minefield. Miniature explosions popped left and right as students braved the long path of land. A non-lethal blast burst in front of them and Fumei side stepped away as a body dropped between them, completely spent. Hitoshi cursed. Running through this part was impossible. He needed to go high like -
An idea formed in his head as he watched Fumei, who looked intently at a boy with green hair dig up mines with a metal plate. He collated the explosives on one giant heap, and mumbled silently to himself.
"Midoriya…" Fumei said with clear interest. The boy in question then experimentally lowered the plate on his hand over the explosives and nodded. Fumei took an instinctive step back. "Is he...?"
Midoriya slammed his plate over the mines, and he soars high into the air. The resulting explosion threw Hitoshi and Fumei into the minefield, and Hitoshi rolled around aimlessly. He heard something click on his back and before he could react, was launched forward by the explosion. He crashed back into Fumei while the latter was assessing his current position.
"BAKUGOU AND TODOROKI ARE IN THE LEAD! THEY'RE ABOUT CROSS THE FINISH LINE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND-! CLASS A'S MIDORIYA RIDES THE WAVE IN HOT PURSUIT OR SOMETHING! H- HE'S PASSED THEM!"
Hitoshi clicked his tongue, jealousy giving way to desperation. He spent the past few weeks training and honing his quirk and skills, then here comes Midoriya, gifted with a quirk like All Might's, blasting his way to first place without breaking a sweat. He didn't even use his quirk. Who the hell does he think he is –?
"Uh… Shinsou…?" Fumei's stuttered, bashfully. "Could you uh… maybe move? Please?" The blonde squirmed uncomfortably beneath him, and Hitoshi quickly pushed off.
Another loud explosion broke through the stadium and the crowd started cheering as Midoriya's name, followed by Todoroki and Bakugou were flashed on the leaderboard. It was now or never. "Sorry about this," he said.
"Sorry about –?"
"Make a path for me."
Hitoshi hopped onto the single platform Fumei made under his command, and looked back. "Extend it till the finish line." Hitoshi ran through the walkway as it continued to form before him. People shouted as they were pushed out of the path's way, while some tried to make good use of it and climb over.
He's thrown off the platform by another explosion and fell on top of a sheet of ice, Hitoshi figured Todoroki made in his haste to run after Midoriya. Fumei's path shattered under multiple people's weight, and Hitoshi broke off his control. Fumei helped him enough.
Hitoshi pushed past the other contestants, and held his head high as his name appeared on the board.
Fumei crossed the finish shortly after. He shoved Hitoshi angrily and called him out on for using him. Hitoshi tried not to smile when Fumei changed his mind and told him he was proud of him.
Not long after Fumei settled down, Akusa sauntered into the field with a hand over his face. He quickly covered it up with a spare mask and look around for familiar faces. Hitoshi caught his eye, and the latter squinted at him.
As more and more people passed the finish, Present Mic closed off the ranking and officially closed the first event.
"No one else made it," Hitoshi said.
"Look again," Akusa drawled, and turned his attention to Nusumi, who ran around shaking hero kid's hands without their permission. "She's shaping up to be more competent than I thought."
As happy as he was for Nusumi, regardless of his opinion of her, it didn't change the fact that he needed to take her down to move higher up the ranks. He turned to Akusa and Fumei. He'd have to beat both of them too.
"So it's finally over. Let's check the results!"
The top three ranks were no surprise. Majority of the hero students filled up the ranks until Nusumi's name flashed itself on the 23rd spot. "Ah! There she is!" Present Mic cheered. "Sachiko Nusumi from general education declares herself as a worthy opponent to the hero dominant ranks."
Hitoshi placed four ranks down after her at 28. Present Mic did not call out his name like he did Nusumi's. Fumei ranked at 32, with Akusa following closely behind at 34.
Katagiri dropped to her knees after she crossed the finish line and absentmindedly searched for stability on Kamimura who was infuriated at the dirt that clung to her golden locks. Hitoshi supposed they were the only ones actually able to finish the race despite everything.
Koharu then walked after them in a daze, with Kureito shadowing him from behind trying to keep the former upright. His hands and feet were exhausted of portal energy, and Fumei ran up to them in worry.
"What happened?"
"Oh you know," Kureito mimed. "He pushed himself past the limit so he's out of it right now. You would've been proud though."
Fumei looked over Koharu and snapped his fingers over his face. Koharu just giggled and reached out for Fumei's hands. "We should get him to Recovery Girl."
"On it. You should be thankful I'm doing this for you." Koharu giggled again. "Recovery Girl's going to scold us again. Yeah, I'm not ready for that. Hey!" he turned back for a moment and pulled a thumbs up at Fumei and Hitoshi. "Good luck next round."
Hitoshi felt a small pang of regret on his chest as Koharu disappeared into the tunnels. He promised himself that he wouldn't be attached with this class, but after spending weeks with them; even more so with Koharu in training, he can't help but feel like everything was unfair.
They also worked hard to reach the end, but it still wasn't enough. Not for them; and it could be the same for him. Hitoshi clutched his hands into a fist, and Fumei slapped his arm.
"Hey, lighten up. It looks sad right now, but it'll get better. They'll get better. Right now, you need to focus on getting yourself up there."
"And what about you," Hitoshi asked. "I thought you don't want to be a hero."
"Yeah, but," the blonde shrugged. "I also want to have fun you know."
"Only the top forty six from this qualifying round are allowed to move on!" Midnight announced as the digital screen behind her hummed to life. "But don't worry, those who placed lower will have another way to show your stuff. From here on out, the main selection begins!"
Hitoshi frowned, determined.
"The press is going to be jumping out of their seats, so give it all you've got! Without further ado, the second event is –" suspense hung in the air as the screen randomized to the next round. It beeped, and with a sly smile on her face, Midnight yelled, "A human cavalry battle!"
"A cavalry battle?"
"Teaming up huh?" Fumei noted.
"The rules are the same as any cavalry battle. You will group yourselves into groups of 2 to 4 members and snag your opponents headbands while guarding your own. Simple right? However, this battle has one exception," Midnight explained. "Each of you have been assigned a point based on your performance."
"So the point of each team depends on its members!" someone shouted from the remaining crowd, and Midnight cracked her whip, annoyed.
"I'm about to explain, so just shut up already!" She inhaled deeply to calm herself, then resumed her charming persona. "Your individual points start at five from the bottom, so the student who ranked forty-fifth gets 10 points, and so on all the way up to our first place who is worth 10 million points!"
All eyes snapped to Midoriya, who shuddered at the intense hunger directed at him.
"The higher ranked students are the ones to aim for!" Midnight said. "This is a chance to place higher and defeat those leading this festival. Welcome to a battle for survival!"
A/N: The festival continues with only 4 of our general students left. I would've posted this sooner but someone forgot to return the flashdrive I had this on, and so here we are. This chapter was so fun to write simply because of the adrenaline . Gosh, I love action chapters. Next chapter is the cavalry battle - who ever could Hitoshi be teaming up with? Who would Akusa, Fumei, and Nusumi team up with? Together as a unit, maybe? Place in your bets everyone. This is going to be one hell of a battle royale.
Tatsumaki gets healed by his crush: ? (We're not sure if she even bothered after seeing him unconscious)
