Update as of September 2019: Fixed grammar errors and some events to make it more coherent. Plot remains unchanged.

OCs Summary list (will be updated every-time a name and/or quirk is added)

Yasogami: Support 1F. Quirk is called Reactor which enables him to store energy and shoot them from his hands. Somehow managed to absorb the voltage released by Kaminari during the cavalry event. He's confused by this as well.

Luck be a Lady

Nusumi silently stalked behind the others with a somber expression.

Nusumi didn't care about winning or losing the tournament. She only wanted to have fun. It would've been incredibly lucky if she won and moved to the next round. It didn't matter if she lost. However, Nusumi was disappointed that she lost. Not for herself, but for the people that she disappointed for the mistake she made.

Akusa wanted to win.

Tsunotori and Kamakiri gave her a chance, and they deserved to win.

She failed them, but they didn't blame her.

They should though. They needed her to create a miracle and she couldn't do it.

They didn't blame her, she knew it wasn't her fault given how unpredictable and uncontrolled her quirk is, but she can't help the thoughts that swirled on her head. It's all her fault.

Nusumi understood her role in the cavalry. Their stroke of luck. The lucky cat. She didn't need to worry about anything. All she had to do was focus being that, they trusted her enough to be able to do it, and yet she didn't.

She curled her fist.

Nusumi never felt the need to prove herself to anyone. It's why her family had been so controlling of her in the past. They wanted her to feel disappointed in herself as they were of her, but she never did. Now here she was, riddled with the very emotion she lacked in the past.

She wanted this horrible feeling gone.

Nusumi grew up in a family of luck related quirks. They expected her to be just as smart and successful with it, like they were and some ways, she was, just not the way they hoped. They wanted her to succeed in everything and to use her quirk to give selfishly obtain what she wanted.

She did what they asked, but not with prowess. No. Nusumi liked surprises, so her quirk surprised her every time she wished for something.

It brought chaos. It disappointed them, but Nusumi didn't care. She was having fun.

They compared her to her siblings, who were all rightfully greedy and ambitious with their quirks. They knew the power their quirk held and used it for their own gain. It made them dangerous.

Nusumi didn't want that.

She wanted to be free to dream, and to be able to work for that dream, not simply wish for it.

Her parents didn't want her to chase a stupid dream and chained her down. They tried to break her into conforming, but Nusumi was stubborn.

The more they forced her, the more she avoided any semblance of control with her quirk. She let it run free. She kept on wishing and wishing, without a care in the world until they had enough.

They sent her to a private finishing school. She hated it there. She didn't want to change, so she ran away.

Running away was harder than she originally imagined, but a friend helped her find her footing. Her family knew where she was, they just didn't care enough to drag her back.

It's easier to lose the problem child than to figure out how to get rid of her.

She applied for Yuuei out of boredom, and she didn't pass the practicals because she didn't take it seriously. It was luck that brought her to general department, and twice it to be sorted in a class of dreamers..

A lot of them wanted to be heroes despite their imperfect quirks, and Nusumi can't help but be inspired by them. She admired heroes, but she never thought of being a hero herself till now. She joined their cause because it sounded fun. She didn't like the training, but she enjoyed the company.

Every day was new, and everyday felt like she was working on something worthwhile. For the longest time, Nusumi refused to understand her quirk as a form of rebellion against her family's wishes. Now, more than ever, she wanted to learn to control it.

She's gotten so close to figuring it out even. Sensei told her she was close. His praise was more than enough to keep her motivated.

It was a new experience; being praised. She wanted more of it. She wanted people to recognize her, to trust her, and to believe in her.

Her team relied on her, and she trusted her quirk to deliver on her wish like it always. However, of all the times Lady Luck decided to turn away, it was when she needed her most.

She failed to clip Bakugou's legs, and it lost her - them - the game.

Tsunotori and Kamakiri didn't deserve to get eliminated so early from the competition. She knew they're worthier to be heroes than her. They wanted to be heroes, she only wanted to have fun.

If she didn't mess up, they could have won. If she didn't mess up, Akusa wouldn't have looked at her like that.

Nusumi never sought for anyone's approval, but she's not opposed to receiving it either. Her family never recognized the things she was good at. Only ever so critical. To be thrust in an environment that assured her of her skills and potential, she learned to believe in herself.

She wanted to feel that warmth of pride again; so it was a bit of a shock when Akusa regarded her with disgust, and disappointment in his eyes that mirrored her family's own.

Nusumi remembered the way her father looked down on her, and how much she hated it. She didn't want people to look down on her that way again.

"Nusumi," Fumei tilted his head. "You still with us? You've been awfully quiet since the match ended."

"A-All good!" she said with a slight crack in her voice. "Just tired. Phew – an obstacle course and a cavalry battle in less than three hours? A girl can get pretty exhausted with all that."

Fumei's frown didn't disappear, and Nusumi held her breath. Does nothing get past him? Nusumi saw herself as a pretty damn good liar, there's no way Fumei could see through her.

Fumei placed his hands on his hips and raised an eyebrow at her. Nusumi blinked. Ah, he noticed.

She slowly lowered her head and anxiously rubbed her sleeve. "I… uhm…"

"You need a minute?"

Nusumi nodded, ever so faintly, and Fumei pushed Shinsou away. The mind controlled didn't seem bothered by it and quietly slinked away.

"Alright," the blond started. "Care to tell me what's bothering you now?"

Nusumi bit her lip. She wanted to tell him, but she wasn't sure if he was the right person to tell. "Do you... ever get that feeling that you're so high on adrenaline that you feel like you can do anything?" she asked. "Then you're suddenly the worst person in the world because you lost even after all that. That you feel like everything was your fault even though it's really not?"

"I've had my fair share of losses because I got too carried away," the blonde said. "So, yeah, I understand a bit, but I never pictured you as someone who would be bothered by that. What happened?"

Nusumi whispered Akusa's name, and Fumei hummed. "Of course it's about him. He didn't blame you for his loss, did he?"

"N - No he didn't!" she shouted, immediately defending the other even though Fumei saw past her lies. Fumei raised a brow at her, and Nusumi sighed. "Seriously, you have got to stop being too perceptive."

The blond tilted his head, baffled, but didn't say anything.

"He counted on me… Tsunotori and Kamakiri too. I was supposed to be the good luck! I focused on making Bakugou's team trip on untangled laces but my quirk backfired! It hit us instead! Hit me! It's never done that before!" she cried, sniffing loudly to hold back the tears.

The blond patted her head. "Sometimes quirks just do that. You can barely control your quirk and are only starting to, so it's not, and will never be, your fault. It's normal to feel upset for losing," the blonde said. "That's just how life is."

"Still doesn't change the fact that I feel pretty bad right now."

"I know," Fumei agreed. "You're free to feel that, but once you're done how about we figure out what went wrong."

Nusumi sniffed. "Always moving forward huh?"

"Sulking won't get me anywhere," Fumei said with a confident grin. "So… did you feel anything different when your quirk 'backfired'?"

She shook her head. "No? I focused on what I wanted to happen like we've practiced, but it jinxed me! It's so frustrating."

Fumei kept to himself for a moment, before he said, "You know, Sensei told me something recently. He wasn't very clear or specific but he asked me to keep an eye out just in case his Inquiry was right. Thinking on it now, I think this may be it."

He looked at Nusumi while the latter tilted her head, baffled and intrigued. "I don't think your quirk backfired."

"What!?"

Nusumi flicked the straw of her juice bottle, too distracted by her own thoughts to notice the way her friends looked at her. She wasn't the type to dwell on things for longer than necessary. She talks, then moves on. She figured letting thoughts plague her mind affected her factors of being lucky, but after what Fumei said, she couldn't help but think.

Fumei hypothesized that her quirk may not just be limited to making herself lucky, but also share it with others. They lacked any proper understanding to back it up, but considering what happened in the field, Nusumi couldn't think of any other explanation but that. It's not evidence, but at this point, Nusumi was ready to believe anything.

"Exhausted, Nusumi-chan?" Makito hovered over her. "You haven't touched your food at all."

"I'm fine," she nonchalantly said, then immediately shoved octopus cut weiners in her mouth to prove a point.

Kimura frowned at her and said, "I don't know. You haven't cried or complained about anything. You usually vent out after something bad then move on. I figured losing would make you feel bad at least. "

"I agree with Kimura," Tenmei added. "Are you not sad that you lost the cavalry?"

"Of course I am!" Nusumi scoffed but didn't elaborate. The others looked at her with expectant eyes, and Nusumi tried to ignore them by playing with her food. It didn't take long for her to succumb to their silent charms though. "Ohhhh alright! You know I can't resist you guys."

She recalled the events of the cavalry battle to them in a very animated fashion, and Tenmei's grimaces when she mentioned her breakdown towards Fumei; and how she blamed herself for the outcome of the battle. He had that frown on his lips that Nusumi was familiar with. She knew what he was going to say. Fumei already beat him to it.

"It's okay Tenmei," she said. "I'm over it. What I'm mostly thinking about right now -" Kimura gasped, surprised to her such a word come from her. "- I know right?! Even I'm surprised. What I'm thinking about is how Fumei thinks I've unlocked something new with my quirk."

"Ehh?" Makito said, aghast. "Like what kind?"

"Not sure," she said. "We're supposed to figure it out together later. Want to help?"

Makito nodded fervently. "Anything for you Nusumi-chan!"

Nusumi tore up a little and tackled the girl into a hug. "MAKI-CHAN I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!"

Tenmei laughed as Makito begged for mercy towards Nusumi's increasing, violent affection of face rubbing. "I would also like to offer my help if you need it," he volunteered. "You've been working so hard on your own, it'd be an honor to help you grow as a hero."

"I want to know what new things you can do too, so let me help. Please?" Kimura asked, and Nusumi threw her hands wide in the air.

"Of course! The more the merrier! You guys can totally help me get back at Akusa too."

Somewhere in the stadium, Akusa sneezed and accidentally deleted a message on his phone. He frowned at his foolishness then glanced down at Blanksheet. He wrinkled his nose and said, "The air's a bit stuffy today, huh?"

The feline meowed in response, and Akusa read through a new message on his phone. It was an amateur photo of an old vigilante. Lost in time and rebranded with new purpose. A stronger code. One Akusa understood and hoped to use to his in his favor.

"About time he showed up. Let's go Blanksheet," he said softly at the feline. "We can't let him get too far again."

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND WE ARE BACK TO PARTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY!" Present Mic screamed in his max high-energy voice and immediately revitalized the stadium with renewed exuberance and flair. The crowd exploded in applause and cheers as the students crowded back in the field, welcomed by foreign cheerleaders dancing from the stands near the stage.

Nagai doubled over as he saw their uniforms and begged for Kureito to take photos for commemoration. Kureito didn't. Then the whole arena fell silent when Class 1-A entered the field wearing the same Yuuei cheerdance uniforms. Nagai clutched his heart at how adorable they were while Kureito finally bowed to the former's request and snapped a couple of pictures of the 1-A girls.

"Aw, that's adorable," Nusumi said. "I want one."

"How horrible," Shirogane mumbled as 1-A filled in with faces of indescribable shock.

"WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT?!" Nagai screamed, defeated by the sight of their well-toned thighs. He grabbed Hadesu by the collar and shook him by the collar. "OUR GIRLS ARE WAY HOTTER THAN THEM! IMAGINE KATAGIRI IN –"

Kamimura slammed his head to the ground before Nagai can finish the thought. "Have some decency you degenerates."

"EVERYONE!" Present Mic reclaimed the crowd's attention. "ENJOY THIS LITTLE RECREATIONAL COMPETITION! ONCE THAT'S OVER, WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE MAIN EVENT. THE FORMAL TOURNAMENT! BETWEEN SIXTEEN MEMBERS OF THE FOUR WINNING TEAMS! A SERIES OF ONE-ON-ONE BATTLES."

The screen flashed before them and displayed an empty battle tree of all the remaining students. Midnight stepped forward with a box and requested the winning teams to draw lots.

"A lucky draw," Nusumi laughed. "How ironic."

The hero students gathered close to Midnight to pick a number, until a student with a long, sturdy, yellow bushy tail raised his hand for attention. "I'd…" he mumbled. "I'd like to drop out."

Class A erupted in confused chatter.

"Why's he doing that?"

"Who cares, he probably thinks he's hot shit."

"What a show off."

"Coward!" shouted a few bitter voices.

Nusumi remembered seeing his face on Shinsou's team, and silently wondered if he thought their win was not acceptable. She didn't see how exactly Shinsou managed a last minute win, but however he did, it was a win. Regardless of yellow tail's reasons, Nusumi hoped that someone else that deserved to move forward. She positively wished for Tsunotori or Kamakiri to be chosen but knew it wasn't possible.

They finished with zero points after all.

After tail boy conceded, another boy, who she recalled was also in Shinsou's team gave up his spot for another.

"Would they just make up their minds already?" Okami growled impatiently. "I WANNA PLAY GAMES DAMMIT! I'M TOO ANGRY OVER LOSING. HURRY UP, HERO LADY!"

Midnight and Present Mic wrapped up the official withdrawals and replaced them with two students named Tetsutetsu and Kendo from the fifth ranked team. The battles were then promptly decided.

Nusumi spotted Shinsou approach a green haired boy, and the bushy tailed boy stopped the latter from answering. Shinsou grinned.

He knows about his quirk, she thought to herself.

Nusumi understood why people were afraid of Shinsou's quirk; she was too, initially. He can make anyone do what they want, but he didn't. He never abused his power, unlike her, so she actually respected him a lot for having that much discipline over his own desires compared to her.

She knew Shinsou didn't mind people's first impression of him, but she wanted him to have more friends! He's a really nice guy once people got to know him. Nusumi bounded over to Shinsou and clung to his arm. Shinsou frowned at her sudden closeness.

"Don't be like that to Shinsou, hero kids," she said. "He may look really scary but he's like super nice, and totally going to kick your asses!"

Both hero students stared at her wildly, while Shinsou blinked. "Prepare to get owned by general studies hero!"

A few laughed at her proud declaration, and Shinsou pinched the bridge of his nose; embarrassed. Nusumi stuck her tongue out at green haired kid and bushy tailed boy before Shinsou dragged her away.

Shinsou dropped her beside Makito, who jumped upon sensing the former's frustrated aura. Nusumi recognized that look and thought it best to stick beside him before his match. Shinsou was very critical of himself. If there was time for him to do that during this festival, then it would be now.

Nusumi reached out to grab his shoulder when Shinsou turned to leave, but Fumei caught her hand first. "We should leave him be for now. We'll talk to him later okay?"

"But -"

"You'd be of more help to him if we can figure out your quirk," Fumei said. "So, let's work on that first alright?"

Nusumi glanced over to Shinsou then back to Fumei, wondering to herself which should he prioritize more. She grumbled and scratched her head. "Ah whatever, let's make someone else lucky."

Operation: Figure out what in sparkles is going on with my quirk began on the first game.

It was a simple race around the field but with a twist. They had to maneuver a large boulder along with them to the finish line. It's big, it's heavy, and it's perfect to try out her luck based quirk.

As per their promise, Tenmei and Kimura teamed up with her to receive the bad luck, while Fumei's team agreed to accept the luck to hopefully make them win the race with ease.

Nusumi didn't have the faintest idea how she could even pass her luck and just decided to wing it. Knowing her quirk, it almost always goes her way anyway. She focused all her thoughts and energy towards Fumei like she was sharing a psychic link. She then wished him luck, just in case.

The first test failed, miserably. Fumei's team veered off course and accidentally hit other teams that were ahead of them. They cleared off Nusumi's path and thus made her team win the race.

Evidently, passing her luck through thought or verbal means wasn't the way it worked. They attempted to use her hands next, since physical contact was prevalent in the Cavalry event. Nusumi couldn't remember if she ever had the chance to touch Bakugou, but with how fast everything was going, she probably just didn't notice.

Okami and Katagiri agreed to help Fumei out in the next event; a giant Q-tip battle.

Nusumi placed both her hands on their shoulders, focused her thoughts on making them lucky then wished them luck again. They can never be too sure with what works.

Test two fails too.

Katagiri was eliminated by a rag-doll looking girl with a quirk that allowed her to puppet the movement of others. She stood at the edge of the platform and released her quirk to let Katagiri slip off. Fumei was blinded by a student with diamond skin. Okami was the only one to power through against her opponent, but that was more skill than luck.

"We're getting nowhere with this," Nusumi huffed as she sat down, defeated on the ground as they skipped the next game to rethink their approach with her quirk.

"The scientific method always procures the best results," Katagiri assured her. "It just takes time."

"Too much time."

"Maybe we're tackling this the wrong way," Tenmei said. "Instead of figuring out how Nusumi can pass her luck, how about we figure out how she uses it?"

"Tried that," Fumei said. "It's a lot harder than you think."

"Gosh," Nusumi sighed, "do I wanna know it works."

"Correct me if I'm wrong but," Katagiri said, "Nusumi's quirk allows herself to be lucky at the expense of another right?"

"That's the most basic of it, yeah," Nusumi said.

"If that's the case, then maybe your quirk follows a similar concept of tipping scales." She raised her hands to demonstrate a scale and continued, "Right now, your luck is balanced, but whenever you make yourself lucky your plate goes up." She lifted her right hand and lowered her left. "While the other person, or object you steal your luck from goes down."

"So it's like... adding and subtracting some number that controls luck?" Kimura asked.

"Not really what I had in mind," Katagiri sighed, "but if that makes it easier to understand, then yes."

"Even if that's how her quirk really works that doesn't answer how we can control it," Tenmei argued.

"With her hands, Tenmei," Fumei said.

"We already know that doesn't work."

"Yes, but she touched us with both hands at the same time. If we use your scales theory, then she should've touched us with either one for it to work. Right for luck, left for bad."

"That., doesn't really make sense," Tenmei frowned. "But nothing else did, so where's the harm in trying?"

Nusumi jumped. "Yes! Let's do it!"

The final event was a dodge-ball elimination match. Two representatives per class were requested to walk inside a metal cage with pressurized shooters.

Okami volunteered herself because she was still furious over her loss in the main event. Makito then finally offered her help after she backed out on the past two games out of some ambiguous fear.

They still haven't figured out which hand would take and receive, so it was a complete gamble. Nusumi sincerely hoped it was the hand she placed on Makito's shoulder. She knew just how bad the smaller girl's anxiety was and didn't want to cause her more panic.

She placed her left hand on Okami and focused on the luck. Nusumi felt some sparks slither through her fingers, and dismissed it as static. She dropped her right hand unto Makito's shoulder and wished her luck. The same hum of energy ran through her and settled on the hand she had on Makito.

Nusumi grinned, feeling confident about this one. This time for sure, they got it right. "Three times the charm?"

Makito nodded, and Okami pumped a fist into the air. "Three times the charm! Let's get those balls off court."

Nusumi joined the others high up the audience, and clasped her hands together. "Don't fail me now lady luck."

The started with a chaotic volley of red rubber balls being thrown all over the field. Students used their respective quirks to defend, parry, or redirect the balls towards others to eliminate them. Everything moved too fast for Nusumi to follow, but after two minutes, the balls stopped firing and the eliminated parties left the field.

Okami yelled in triumph as she lifted a flustered looking Makito over her head. Still untouched!

The metal barriers moved closer for the next round, further crowding the last few players in the middle of the field. When the balls fired, five players were immediately hit, and despite being 'unlucky' Okami was still able to dodge balls that seemed to almost always find their way back to her.

Nusumi thought it had something to do with her natural reflexes.

Makito on the other hand simply stood in the middle of the group. She had her arms wrapped around herself, shivering and stood absolutely still. She shrieked every time a ball flew past her, and despite her lack of movement still has not been touched.

"One last round..."

Okami stretched as she prepared to use the last bits of stamina she had left in her transformation, while Makito held back tears in her eyes.

Six people remained as the cage moved closer; leaving little to no space for movement. The game had evolved from being good at dodging, to being smart about dodging.

Only one ball is shot out into the cage and Okami hastily dodged it turning into a pup. The ball bounced off the ground and flew up towards a black haired boy with scotch tape for arms. He missed it by a small margin, and the ball ricochets on the ceiling.

It fell towards Makito, who ducked under it on instinct. The ball bounced off the ground again and hits a support student, who was activating a device in their backpack, on their back.

The student fell to the ground, eliminated, and the cage moved.

"Again?!"

A black haired boy rotated his arm to block the ball that was fired directly to his face. The winds that seemed to gather around his arm redirected the ball at the back of Okami's head with additional force.

Okami snarled upon being hit and bared her fangs at the boy. The hero kid shook his hands in apology and dodged the ball Okami just kicked at his direction. It hit the wall and flew towards the boy with tape dispensers for elbows. It hit him on his side, and the ball rolled over to touch the other hero kids, foot. All three of them are eliminated which left Makito and another girl with black hair.

Nusumi leaned over the edge of the balcony as the cage closed in for the last time, and the crowd was hyped up by Present Mic's announcement. "WE REACH THE END OF OUR SPORTS GAME, AND IT'S GENERAL EDUCATION VERSUS HERO DEPARTMENT!"

"MAKI-CHAN, STAND UP!"

Makito peeked through her arms and slowly forced herself to stand. She glanced over her shoulder to watch her opponent, and noted that the other was more focused on the incoming barrage than getting her eliminated.

Balls shot out of the tunnels, and Makito jumped away from any projectile that flew her way. She kept her arms close, but had too many close calls with how slow she reacted to the fast moving balls.

Makito's bumped into opponent and for a second they met each other's eyes, and the latter dropped to their knees.

Makito screamed as a ball was fired towards her face. She unconsciously brought up her hands to protect herself and dragged along shadows with it. The ball phases through the blanket of black and was spewed out from the floor.

The other girl coughed out loud as the ball hit her stomach, and she fell back clutching her stomach as the ball rolled off to the side.

Makito blinked, Nusumi gasped, and the crowd went wild.

"AND THE SURPRISE WINNER OF THIS EVENT IS THE COWERING STUDENT FROM GENERAL EDUCATION!" Present Mic yelled. "GENERAL DEPARTMENT IS FIGHTING WITH A STRONG ARM THIS YEAR, EY ERASERHEAD? HEY, HEY, HEY! ISN'T THERE A GENERAL STUDENT IN THE MAIN EVENT TOO? OH THIS IS EXCITING! DON'T GO ANYWHERE FOLKS, THE MUCH AWAITED TOURNAMENT WILL BEGIN AGAIN IN A FEW MINUTES!"

Nusumi tackled Makito down to ground as soon as she joined them back on the audience stand. The rest of the class then piled on top of them, overjoyed by her victory.

Even Okami who took the brunt of the bad luck for the experiment was ecstatic to congratulate her. She grabbed Makito and tossed her up in the air, "THAT'S MY LIL GIRL!"

Makito laughed as she was repeatedly thrown up. Okami brought her down and the latter faced Nusumi. "I did it!"

"Of course!" Nusumi mirrored her huge, dumb grin. "I believed in you all the way."

Makito bashfully rubbed her neck. "Not really... I just got lucky."

"Lucky because of me!" Nusumi laughed maniacally. "Now that I have unlocked this new ability, I can do so much more!" She started listing down all the things she could do with this new ability, and Tenmei warned her against doing any of them.

On the side, Fumei watched Nusumi teasingly wave her unlucky left hand at Tatsumaki and ran after him to make him unlucky. He laughed and glanced over at the time remaining before the real matches begin. "That's two."

A/N: I know, I know. I've been gone for like what? 3 months? That's what happens when you're graduating and kicked off the being an adult and finding a job I suppose. Sorry for the lack of Shinsou bitterness this chapter, I had a bit of a writers block on what to write about while preparing for the one-on-ones without repeating the self-loathing from the previous chapters. Also debated on dividing it between Nusumi and Shinsou, but then the title roped me into making it entirely Nusumi's POV. It's about time I started some side-character arcs too.

Special mention to Makito Azuki (the author/user) for her character of the same name! I finally found a way to give her a bigger role. Using her slowly and steadily. Okami is still best fighting girl. One day, Shirogane, I will give your character justice.

I honestly wanted to finish the festival arc before Horikoshi does with the Liberation Army Arc, but ehhhh I write too slow. Anywho, next chapter would be back to Shinsou as he gets ready to beat a certain green beans ass. Don't forget to leave some follow/favorite maybe a review! I'd love to hear what you think of what's going to happen now. Love, love. Sushi - OUT!
