Calypso was definitely stronger than she looked. She had covered most of the distance to the palace dragging me across the ground like a garbage bag.
When I finally woke up, she had gotten herself inside although I worried she hadn't gotten the message of Zeus across. I needed to check myself.
Of course, there was the minor problem of having to get past the guards to enter the building itself. One could simply not march into the fortress atop Mount Othrys without permission from the guards. So, that's exactly what I tried to do.
Oizys stood guard in front of the huge gateway that was between me and the palace.
Oizys was a daimonia, specifically personifying misery. If I could somehow get past her without inflicting massive damage to my mental and emotional condition, It'd be a one sided battle.
I found myself trying to jump from a high tree to a wall. Three times I tried and three times I fell to the ground.
On the fourth, I tried weaving grass into a rope and connected it to my arrow. I doubted I wouldn't have fallen and made a complete embarrassment of myself if I'd used actual rope. Or maybe I had eaten too many fat squirrels.
Nonetheless, I eventually wound up back at the main entrance. Hiding behind a tree, I was sure Oizys couldn't see me. Daimones were more like monster-deities rather than deities that were monsters.
That left only one option.
From my quiver, I pulled out an arrow. If I could get a good shot on Oizys, I might be fast enough to run past her. That was assuming this worked.
Taking a deep breathe, I took a step out from the tree. Oizys had turned right when I had appeared and her eyes told me she was ready for some tasty Not-so-immortal Titan food.
Twang!
I let the arrow go. It moved faster than Oizys had expected. It penetrated her eyes and I took the opportunity to run as fast as I could to the door of Othrys.
Oizys, unluckily was barely fazed by my attack which was unfair.
I stopped in my tracks. Already, my eyesight was dimming. Old voices were mumbling things in my ear. It was like I was stuck in a dream with nothing but the ghosts I had left behind.
"Come back, brother."
That was painful. Not much time had passed since Hyas' death and hearing his voice made me go down to me knees. I wished I could bring him back.
'You can! Just stay still,' a voice said in my mind. It was calming, assuring me that I would soon be with Hyas again.
'Yes, stay down,' it said. Something rung out somewhere in my thoughts. I was supposed to be going somewhere. Getting lost in my mind wasn't a good thing.
That was silenced as more of Hyas' voice came.
'Yes... Soon, you will be with me again,'
I waited silently for Hyas to appear.
"Kathryx?" Another voice said, this one higher pitched. It was annoying, really. All I wanted was to stay in my nice little dark thoughts.
I contemplated punching the voice but that would be inconvenient. I stayed still.
Then, I was thrown back onto something soft, out of my mind.
My eyesight returned and I found myself laying on a warm bed, a soft pillow comforting my head.
For a moment, I felt like I could relax.
It was then that I realized my current situation. I got out quickly and ran down the halls of Mount Othrys. As I ran, I passed by the room the Hyades. Several of them turned to me while I ran and by the looks of their faces, they weren't happy with me. One of them yelled something at me as I passed. The angry tone told me she was still salty about my brother. As if his death didn't matter to me.
I passed the kitchen, the smell of Kronos' cupcakes wafting through the air, a scent of Golden Age Human flesh.
The smell wasn't calming.
Finally, I reached the throne room. Kronos' throne, pitch black marble as one might expect was two dozen feet high but barely reaching a tenth of the way to the roof.
Several of the Titans were already there, partying and drinking wine as one might expect from the rulers of the Earth. I saw one new figure, a cupbearer by the looks of him serving Kronos cups of wine which he emptied within seconds of the liquid reaching his mouth.
At his feet, Calypso seemed to have finished saying a report. When she realized I was there, she mouthed the words: 'I told him.'
So, I had raced across the palace only to have Calypso do the work for me. If Kronos showed any sign of fear at Zeus being freed, he was doing a great job at hiding it.
Not sure what to do, I walked over to the tables filled with wine. Several smaller monsters were roaming around the feet of the Titans, brawling with each other.
I poured a glass for myself. As I did so, Kronos' cupbearer came before me to take another cup in. As soon as my cup was filled, I drank. My eyes saw a familiar thing in him though that could be an illusion.
"Don't drink too much," a voice said behind me. Calypso, beautiful as always was walking over to me.
"It's just one cup," I responded. In truth, yes, I was just going to take one. "Supreme Lord Kronos doesn't seem to bothered byZeus."
Calypso shrugged. "I'm sure he's just keeping it hidden for now. He wants to make the declaration of Zeus being alive when Zeus is caught. He doesn't want some of his enemies to side with Zeus."
"When you put it that way..." I trailed off. Metis was pouring some liquid into Kronos' cupbearer's cup. I was surprised Metis had come up with a new recipe so soon after she'd brought in a new one. She regularly came up with new drinks, being all wisdom Titan and all, she chose to use her wisdom to make the best wine possible.
"Does Kronos know where Zeus is?" I asked. It was a dumb question in retrospect. Zeus would've already been in chains or in a stomach if Kronos knew.
Thankfully, Calypso did not address my question. She was looking over to Kronos' throne.
I turned and found that Kronos was retching up disgusting liquid. His cupbearer was waiting patiently off to the side. None of the other Titans were doing anything though they knew perfectly well what was happening.
Kronos' new cupbearer was trying to poison his host.
Suddenly, a golden woman in a great dress was retched out violently. A great wave of wine poured out with her but she was alive nonetheless.
Second came a dark man in a pitch black robe. His aesthetic matched the throne his swallower was sitting on.
Next, a man in a blue tunic with sparkling green and blue eyes. After that, a small young girl with warm fires in her eyes and even still, a womanly woman in a fluttering white dress.
The golden dress woman recovered quickly. She ran up to Kronos and pointed her middle finger at him. "You haven't swallowed any grain in a decade! No wonder you retched us up!"
Kronos was too busy gagging to reply.
"I must say," the blue and green eyed man said,"I didn't expect our young brother to free us."
At that point, Titans and monsters alike began to realize who the mysterious cupbearer was. I, for my part, gulped down what remained of my cup and prepared for a fist fight. Calypso had taken out a small knife and I realized she had a new sundial.
"Brothers and sisters! We must rise up and overthrow our father! My mother raised me to do one thing, to defeat Kronos. I shall do this with the might of my siblings with me!"Zeus proclaimed, holding Kronos' cup in one hand.
I looked around for Rhea but she was nowhere to be seen.
With that, Zeus snapped his fingers and his brothers, sisters, and himself evaporated into air.
Kronos finally stopped gagging. "Get them!" He ordered.
All around me, Titans began sending down orders to the small monsters to search for Zeus' siblings. Then, they too began to teleport themselves to random locations.
Calypso turned back to me.
"Do you suppose this'll take long?" Calypso asked.
"I don't know," was my response.
