Speed dating hadn't worked. Meeting up with guys on Grinder hadn't worked. Most of those guys wanted to hook up and the speed dates- well, most of those guys were pretty sad and Kurt didn't want to be among them.
But meeting up with guys at a bar or a club? That was the lowest possible solution on his list and he was not going to fall into that cliché trap. He was just at the club to blow off steam, not hook up or anything else. A club meet and subsequent dates were not going to go well. It wasn't what he was looking for, the guys he'd meet at a club even though it was hypocritical since he was there too- well, not particularly high on his list.
After returning to the bar for another drink, he spotted the one guy who confirmed the rule. What was Sebastian Smythe doing in New York? He'd thought for sure that Sebastian had returned to Paris once he graduated. Off to be... what did Wes say Sebastian had been gloating about? Med school?
That couldn't be right, Med school was after his undergraduate degree.
"Hey! Where's my drink?" Santana distracted him as she bounced up at his elbow and looking down at the bar for what she had ordered. She looked down the way to see what had captured Kurt's attention. She whistled. "What's the Meerkat doing here?" Then bristled. "Has he approached you?"
"No, I don't think he's even seen me yet. I think I'd like to keep it that way." He had always been fashionable but he'd been perhaps overly fashionable for Lima and had actually toned down his wardrobe here considerably, finding comfort in skinny jeans and a button down most days, even to the club whereas before he'd have feathers and beads. Granted they were always different colored jeans and fabulously outspoken button downs. He still wore the occasional outfit that turned heads more than what he sported most days but he's found his groove for what he was into right this moment, especially for all the different activities he was pulled into. He still rocked scarves, vests and sweaters when he felt like it. He still had suits and tuxedos in his closet.
That wasn't the only change that would convince Sebastian that if he did happen to notice Kurt, would have to determine that he was wrong and it couldn't possibly be Kurt. For one he'd lost a 170 pounds of weight that had been clinging to him and lost that monkey that had been on his back throughout his school years in Lima. His hair was also a lot higher and more stylized than that flat side part he'd rocked for several years. It had slowly been gaining in volume but Sebastian hadn't seen most of that transition phase. More than that too, he went from the skinny little kid to a toned and above average height man.
Seeing Sebastian nearly tipped him sideways as he was thrown temporarily backward in time with all that insecurity and effort to prove that he was deserving of the hottest out single gay guy he'd ever met. He'd been attempting to stake his claim and held on with both hands, blinding himself to the obvious flaws staring at him in his face. He'd been so determined in fighting off the other (perhaps hotter) gay guy from claiming his man that he'd ignored every red flag. To be fair, he'd been ignoring those red flags before Sebastian joined the picture with his stubborn nature. Once he set his sights on someone, he was determined to get with the person until they told him no in no uncertain terms. Blaine had never done that, he's always alluded to the possibility of wanting Kurt back, he just needed time.
When they finally got together, Blaine said he'd been scared of the sheer weight of his feelings for Kurt. He knew once he was in a relationship with Kurt it would be the end, Kurt was end game and he would never want anyone else after Kurt. That had been a lie in the end, but it had been flattering and had soothed his bruises. Blaine had said that how in he was with Kurt was only going to get more intense when they were in a relationship. That had been unfortunately true. It had been daunting how much he felt for Kurt so had pursued as many alternatives as he could to give him breathing room, a chance to explore before he was with the one person he truly, fully loved for the rest of his days. He may seem like a suave dapper gentleman but he was a lowly sophomore in awe of his upperclassman and how far he had come with his bullies in all aspects of life, whereas Blaine had just run. He had been afraid of what being out with someone he truly cared about would be like. He had always been a little skittish whenever they were in Blaine's hometown and when he transferred to McKinley they didn't touch like they had while at Dalton.
Some of that held true in the end and some of it had ended somewhere along the way and they had both been too stubborn to let it slip away, to give up on what they already had. It had hurt them more at that juncture and they'd tried again but only ended up hurting each other again.
Sebastian caught the eyes on him and a slow smirky smile slid upon his lips. He tossed them a wink, thinking them just open admirers of both genders. Of all the gay people Kurt knew, there were some who were a little less picky about gender than others. It was never an obvious thing from just looking at them, but looking at Sebastian, you couldn't be blamed if you thought he swung all ways. He seemed like the sort who wouldn't mind as long as there was a place to insert his cock. He was slime of the worst sort, even his apology was a showboating experience. He'd said some mean comments to Karofsky when he was already low, it was not Sebastian's fault nor had it really anything to do with him. It could have been anyone who turned Karofsky down and it would always contribute a small amount but Karofsky had far worse problems before that, mainly with himself.
Years down the road, Kurt could acknowledge that and Blaine's harsh words that Kurt was like Karofsky, only in the fact that like Kurt, Karofsky also pursued who he was interested in relentlessly. Unlike Kurt, he didn't stop at a resounding no.
Sebastian just had to donate and raise money for the Trevor Project so publicly without ever once feeling that insecurity himself. Kurt was glad the charity got funds and public recognition; he'd called them once himself. He'd just been annoyed at who had been behind it. He'd thought it was weird that the bullies of his world were supporting the institute that was designed to stop people like Kurt from going ahead with what the bullies had egged him on to do. The fact that one of the bullies had been the real one to have needed it more wasn't lost on Kurt.
Santana mad a disgusted sound and shook her head. She wrapped one hand around her drink and the other around Kurt's arm and pulled him away from the bar. He already had his drink in hand. "Come on, man-hands is probably embarrassing herself without us to stop her."
Sure enough, Rachel was on the lap of a man who was even more obviously out than Kurt had been in high school. She was attempting to play with his hair and he kept swatting her hand away and looked incredibly distressed to have female attention. He spotted Kurt and brightened. "Help me, please!" He mouthed and Kurt laughed, putting Sebastian out of his thoughts temporarily as he pressed his drink into Rachel's seeking hand.
She was properly distracted and he slowly, subtly, helped her stand and move to a chair rather than onto the couch with the rest of the guys. Another girl perched herself onto the arm of the chair and started petting Rachel's hair and making comments designed only for Rachel's ears.
Rachel squinted and shook her head in confusion. "But I'm not gay."
"I am, and I'm pretty sure I can convince you to join my team if you give me a few hours."
"Ah, I didn't peg you for liking the butch type." Santana chortled and Kurt felt one side of lips quirk as it passed right by Rachel. She was starting to lean into the girl and Kurt snagged his drink back from Rachel, it was a bit too strong for her and Santana was talking again. "Please don't convince her that she's into girls, then I'll have to fend her off when she inevitably realizes I'm the hottest girl on the planet and her status hunting will find me like a homing signal. I don't want to deal with that."
She nudged Kurt's calf with her pointed stiletto when she saw that his attention was now elsewhere. While his thoughts had been temporarily pulled from that bully, his distraction was gone and his eyes couldn't help but track his movements. Even the nudge wasn't enough to pull him back into the conversation. Santana let it go for now, a question crossing her features but then her girlfriend came over to her chair and splayed herself over Santana. "You're all mine. If Berry decides to come after you, I'll gut her."
"I've been trying to do that for years." Santana mumbled. "Somehow she's built up a kind of armor over her vulnerable underside. Maybe it's never been there."
"Of course not. The soft vulnerable part of her is very tiny but it hurts the most when you pierce it." Kurt said softly so as not to catch Rachel's attention. It had taken him quite some time to find it the first couple of times but it kept moving. Recently it had seemed impossible to find again. Her ability to hurt far outweighed either his or Santana's. Santana came across as harsh but her love and softness was often seconds ahead or behind her words, often taking the bite out of what she said.
His eyes tracked as Sebastian flirted and danced with a lot of guys in the club, a natural charmer and guys were just drawn to him. Unlike what he'd expected though, when some of them made advances, Sebastian flitted out from their grasp and said something and pushed up against them before floating off to another guy. The one he just left seemed unaffected and moved on as well. There had only been one occasion when Kurt had seen Sebastian in his true element though he knew Sebastian went near weekly if not more often.
It was that regrettable night at Scandals.
There Sebastian had flirted and danced around and with Blaine, enticing him but somehow also maintaining a respectable distance from him, only brushing up close on occasion and Kurt had gotten closer to both of them than Sebastian had with Blaine when they were out there alone.
But he'd heard stories of his other outing, of his conquests and lack of emotional attachment or time with the other boys. Sebastian was exactly the type of guy he had been warned about meeting at a bar. It wasn't about him directly, Rachel and Santana had been told the same things at different times in their lives. Any interactions with a guy at a bar were usually over quickly; don't expect more.
Except... Sebastian wasn't heading off for 5 minutes in heaven with any of the guys he danced with. In fact, if he wasn't making things up in his own head, he'd saw Sebastian was not interested in any of those guys, even remotely. He'd probably slept with them all in the past and he didn't do repeats.
"Do you really think he could have slept with all those guys?" Elliot asked leaning on his shoulder, his eyes trying to seek out whatever Kurt was looking at. Blaine had gone jealously nuts over Elliot too, just like had with any guy Kurt was friends with. Thankfully it hadn't ruined Kurt's relationship with Elliot. "The blond?"
"Blond? I'd say it was more brown?" Kurt thought it had always been part of his crowning glory, that light brown hair mixed with piercing jade eyes. Both had to be natural since it went together so well, easily. Sebastian kept himself fit and had upped his clothing game in the last few years but he'd been given a step ahead of the competition with good genes or culmination of genes since he hadn't ever actually seen either of Sebastian's parents. Distant but supportive, he'd figured from the way David had talked about his visit to Paris with Sebastian earlier this winter.
Elliot let loose a slow grin. "You're interested." His words brushed against Kurt's skin and made him shiver which only caused Elliot's smile to widen. "Very interested."
"He's hot but his personality is the worse." Kurt shrugged Elliot off before he turned to face his friend. Santana was eying Kurt with a disapproving look until he spoke and then nodded along. "I was just curious to see him in action since the last time I'd seen him try to get with a guy his sights were set on my boyfriend of the time and couldn't appropriately appreciate his shark-like tendencies, a kind of beautiful only seen in destruction. Maybe warn off a potential victim if they seemed too vulnerable. He's still up to his old tricks."
Except David had also mentioned that he'd gone with Sebastian a total of 3 times while he'd been in Paris to clubs. They'd been to a couple of bars for a couple of drinks but even then Sebastian hadn't stayed to flirt with the very hot boys who were interested in him. David had wanted to go out more but Sebastian had released him to go on his own, their townhouse wasn't far from the mecca and David was out looking for girls, not his scene, despite what it seemed like to the contrary just looking at him. David had echoed Kurt's thoughts, he'd thought for sure it wouldn't have mattered to Sebastian who the fish was as long as they were hot.
Their group had come to a dance club but they had taken over a corner of the lounge area and had been laughing it up for over an hour now. Once in awhile when an especially good song came on, Santana and her girlfriend would drag Kurt and Elliot out onto the dance floor, but it had been awhile since the last time. None of them minded the fact that they were sitting and mocking each other with gentle barbs rather than dancing despite the type of place they were in. There just wasn't quite the same chill vibe in the semi-dark, semi-lit environment of the club in a bar. Or at least none of the bars they'd gone to so far. Maybe they had to go further out of their usual path to find a lounge bar. Kurt pulled out his phone in curiosity, looking up cocktail lounges. Sure enough, there were a few further down the street in a couple of different directions and closer to school and their apartment. He'd pitch the idea to them before their next outing and they'd sort out which looked the most promising.
His drinks were stronger just because they were mostly brandy or whiskey depending of if he thought the last drink was too sour or sweet by the time he finished it, but he was only on his third drink while many of the others were deep into their counts. Rachel was slowly losing the battle with her eyelids. They would have a long ride back if they didn't leave soon.
At that moment a very good song was wafting out of the speakers and Santana jumped to her feet as Rachel squealed, wide awake for this song only. She bolted onto the dance floor without any prompting or attempting to pull anyone out there with her. She just threw her body into the song, pure joy on her face. Most gave her a wide berth as she made a lot of big movements with this song. Santana and Kurt shared a look before they laughed at joined her, not bothering to pull Elliot or her girlfriend out on the floor with them. It was definitely a McKinley only song as they all had a shared history with it. Not that the others couldn't enjoy it.
The song ended all too soon, Kurt felt exuberant now that he'd had another good song to dance to in such a long lull. The others had been good songs and others had been able to dance to them, but they hadn't hit the mood that they were in today.
He attempted to stay out for the next song but it just didn't land like he was hoping it would. He went back to join the others and Rachel was already curled up into her chair again, no longer interested in hitting on any of the guys with them. She was half asleep in the chair and they debated waking her up or leaving her there until the rest were ready to go. They wouldn't leave her on her own though. He was pretty surprised that Santana was still at his elbow but her head was turned and her body was sending off 'stay away' vibes. Nobody had been inappropriately hitting on Kurt today, he didn't know why her hackles were up. He had to calm his guard cat down and slipped his hand around her elbow. "Satan?"
Her head spun toward him and she was still glaring but seeing Kurt's inquiring gaze, she shook herself out of it and pulled him back to the group, looking more determined now but also softer.
She dumped Kurt between Elliot and Trevor, someone who'd had a crush on Kurt for forever. Elliot had even admitted he'd thought Kurt was cute but vowed he wasn't interested. Kurt hadn't needed another guy afraid to cross friend threshold into something more. He'd had enough of that kind of lack of bravery and if he did go for Kurt now, it would ruin the friendship and there wasn't a hope of a lasting intimate relationship there. Kurt was not interested in either of them. He was done with guys who were so passive and unable to make a move. Even Adam had required Kurt to break that awkward flirt barrier. Adam would praise him and compliment him but never once had he asked Kurt out. Kurt had been the one to ask Adam out.
Kurt tried to stand up when he realized where Santana dumped him, these two slow moving boys could have each other for all he cared. They'd probably be pretty good together if either one of them would pull their heads out of the sand and recognize what they had in the other. Santana jumped to her feet and shoved him back into his seat. She practically fell into his lap when he tried to be free of her hands. "What are you doing Satan? I just want to go back to where I was sitting before." Which was on the other side of Elliot. He was trying to physically push the two together more.
"No, no, you should stay here." She quickly climbed into his lap, not unlike her but not usually in his lap unless she was feeling vulnerable while they were in their apartment in private, even Rachel wasn't privy to this kind of Santana. She threw herself across many guys' laps before, but with Kurt it was always different.
He'd lost track of Sebastian somewhere and somehow between the last dance and Santana's loss of her head. Even her girlfriend was frowning in confusion over Santana's actions. Even as he scanned the room without tipping off the others, he couldn't find the taller bo- guy. Sebastian was likely gone with the guy he finally deemed good enough for him. Maybe his standards had increased over the years? Doubtful but not impossible.
She pressed herself up against his chest and wrapped her arms around him. "Stay right here."
"Ok, now you've done it." He struggled to his feet, with her new position it was a little easier. "You've pressed your knee against my bladder and I have to go to the bathroom, thank you for that. Excuse me, Satan, this is one place I don't want you to follow me into." She'd barged into the bathroom with him in it plenty in the past. It just seemed different in the club and he'd always been wearing underwear at least when she did it at home. The other guys in there might slow her from just barging right in, though knowing her, it would only be a split second hesitation rather than a real one. She'd go wherever she wanted without any concern to the consequences if she thought it was for the best.
Walking out of the bathroom, he felt himself pulled sideways and then pressed up against a wall. There was a soft thud as his body contact but no pain as it was gentle enough. Then a hand was tilting his head up as it rested on the side of his jaw and applying slight pressure. A warm mouth expertly covered his and had his knees weakening before he could remember to be offended by the sheer audacity of the action and assumption that he'd be into this.
His brain short-circuited and his eyes remained closed as he lost himself into this incredible kiss. Ok, so maybe he wouldn't scold the guy too harshly if he could kiss like this. He'd never been kissed like this, had never had someone be so upfront with their interest. Even Karofsky's surprise kiss wasn't straightforward or upfront. He'd been pushed into through anger. This guy, whoever he was had seen Kurt, had wanted Kurt and had acted. It was quite flattering.
So he would forgive the guy for his rudeness but chide him on his approach. Kurt would have been quite content with just an ask. He ignored the part of his brain that told him this was exactly what he had been avoiding and had been criticizing. In light of the kiss, his opinion could change.
The body moved forward and pressed into him and he could feel the strength in the long lean body. If his eyes weren't already closed, they would have closed in pleasure, it was definitely his body type. He'd slowly begun to realize that he didn't want to be the taller one in the situation. He had never felt awkward being the taller one but it was kind of nice not having to look down. He did enough of that with Santana, her girlfriend and Rachel. Elliot was not quite on Finn's scale of tall, but he was the tallest of his friends in New York. Everyone was either his height or slightly shorter. He felt like he was back in Dalton, whereas at McKinley it seemed like everyone had been taller than him for so long, even the girls.
He felt the guy's excitement and noticed he was echoing it very much in all physical ways too. He tore his mouth away and the guy's mouth found his cheek and ear and down his neck. Kurt moaned and tipped his head back to allow for better access. What was he doing? He had to stop this now, this was not how he behaved or anything he had wanted coming into the club. He wasn't into random hookup with strangers, especially ones he hadn't seen yet. The fact that they were in an alcove off the main floor near the bathrooms was a bit of a mood dampener and he used that to pry his eyes open. He could barely see the guy he was with, just a vague outline that was somehow familiar to him. Even the body next to his had a sense of deja vu to it. He smelled familiar but different too.
He reached into his back pocket for his phone even as the man's hands slipped from his shoulders to wrap around his body and press Kurt into him. Kurt was so willing to sink back into that kiss. Most of him burned to take this further but his curiosity was getting the best of him and he pressed the button to wake up his phone. He wouldn't blind either of them with the flashlight feature.
Kurt's hot body grew ice cold suddenly as the light reflected off Sebastian Smythe's familiar planes on his face. It took a moment for his brain to catch up to what he'd learnt. He suddenly wished he had blinded Sebastian with the flashlight feature.
He was livid and he pushed Sebastian away from him and was surprised when Sebastian took a step away in deference to his wishes. He realized he hadn't pushed or told him no at any point, had brought him in closer on his own volition even. "What sort of sick game are you playing?"
Sebastian smiled ruefully at him but that smile wiped off his face when he heard Kurt's question. "No game, just wanted to kiss you." Sebastian gave a noncommittal shrug.
"I don't go for random hallway hook ups. You've gone after the wrong guy." Why had he gone after Kurt if it wasn't to mess with him? There were plenty of willing bodies on the dance floor.
He ignored his blush as Sebastian's look and what they'd just done belittled his words. But he hadn't hooked up with Sebastian and so it was still true. He tried to remember that. He probably didn't even know who he went after just now. When Sebastian found out, he'd be annoyed and rude and Kurt didn't want to be part of that conversation.
"What's the K part of Klaine doing here all alone, I wonder? Last I saw, you were saying yes to Blaine's proposal." Sebastian's predatory eyes were watching him in the near dark.
Kurt closed his eyes as the question hit close to home. "Newest technique to try and break us up? Didn't you hear that Blaine was super possessive and if he had seen you kiss me, it wouldn't have broken us up? And he definitely wouldn't go to try and sleep with you if we did break up if you were the reason. Well.. maybe he would go after you if you broke us up by kissing me, he might try to suck my taste and memory off your mouth and so you could never know for yourself what it's like to do anything with me. Just know of him and his touch if anything is left behind."
"What are you talking about?" Sebastian asked in bemusement. Kurt was spouting off nonsense in his mind and Kurt knew it seemed that way, but there was a lot of truth to his words. Blaine was possessive and did very illogical things in return when the situation was all in his imagination. Except for Adam, that had been a real thing that was ruined by Blaine but it had all been Kurt's fault.
"Blaine's back in Ohio, if you were looking for him here, you've come to the wrong state." Kurt wrapped his arms around himself. Glad nobody had witnessed their kiss. Santana would have ruined any chance Kurt would have had to know if Sebastian had ever slept with Blaine. Blaine would take that answer to the grave and play it off the entire time as confusion over the question. Sebastian was cruel enough to be honest but not cruel enough to know it would hurt more to keep it from Kurt.
"That's fine." Sebastian gave a small shrug. "When is he coming back?"
"I don't know."
"When are you going to Ohio to see him next?" Sebastian placed a hand by Kurt's head and leaned against the wall, nearly boxing Kurt in but not holding him in place. There was a fairly easy exit if Sebastian didn't employ other methods to keep him from going.
"I'm not." Kurt looked to him. "What are you doing? What are you playing?"
"Nothing!" Sebastian answered brightly but caved under Kurt's look. "I saw you early in the night, even before the bar where you finally spotted me and undressed me with your eyes."
"I never did that."
"You sure? You were doing it all night." Sebastian had known Kurt was watching him? Was he playing up his flirtation with other guys for Kurt? Or was he holding back on taking one of them with him for the night because his sights were set on Kurt, not to bed him but to put him on his back foot, make him uneasy and paranoid?
"I wasn't." Kurt denied and could exactly explain why he watched Sebastian all night other than to make sure he stayed away. "How'd you even know it was me? I don't look the same."
"No, but while you've changed, and it would have been easy to guess who you were by your female entourage, no amount of changing would be enough from knowing it was you within seconds of seeing you." His free hand came up and gently moved a fallen piece of hair from Kurt's eyes. "Why don't you tell me what the relationship status is with one Blaine Anderson? I didn't see the ring anymore, so either you're married and trying to pretend you're not for a night – which I'm more than willing to accommodate for you- or you're single – which the answer still stands."
"Not that this is a desire to take up your offer but the answer is single. So you haven't run into him in Ohio? I thought for sure you'd have seen him on his own and attempt to bed him again now that I wasn't there to stop you in any way, either by relationship status or physical presence." Not that the former had stopped Blaine before.
"I wouldn't know, I don't spend much time in Ohio. I came back with David to have dinner with his family and talk about his trip to Paris then kicked it up to New York to seek you out and tell you not to marry that idiot. You deserve better, that I had to say something before it was too late."
"You don't know the half of it." Kurt muttered. Then his eyes sharpened on Sebastian. "What?"
"He's such an idiot, he has unlikely gotten smarter over time. Who tells a virtual stranger who is also a rival exactly what songs you're going to use?"
"He was flattered and blinded by lust." Kurt shifted and somehow moved back toward the wall again, putting distance between them. "You didn't seem to mind that at the time."
"Yeah, I was an idiot too." Sebastian laughed. "I was out to conquest the Great Blaine Anderson, add him to my trophy list. I was so set on the status and the challenge that I didn't even see you clearly. You weren't the former lead Warbler that I had to topple to fully claim my place. I've grown up since then, become more... selective. Even tried the whole relationship thing once or twice."
"Found it wasn't to your taste and decided to just bed one guy a night rather than a whole harem?"
"Wow." Sebastian chuckled, moving in on Kurt slightly, increasing the warmth of the air between them as it reflected between their bodies. "You really do think I'm the greatest gift to man, ever. I'm incredibly flattered you'd think all those men desire me and I could satisfy them all. I know the gay population is larger than you thought but it'd definitely not large enough for me to bed one a night and have no repeats, even if I went around the world. The likes of Blaine, Karofsky and Thad would have had to share my body if I could even begin to check off those numbers. I'd have better luck if I started including females to that list."
Kurt started inching away. "Sebastian, what are you doing? You hate me." That had to be why Sebastian had come up to New York, what he had to say to Kurt. One last ditch effort to get Kurt to break up with Blaine because they weren't a long term match, at least not until Sebastian had a taste of the prior King of Dalton. "Go back to Ohio, bed Blaine and be done with your games."
"Aren't you listening? I don't want Blaine. I never really wanted Blaine, sure he was attractive and from what I hear, still is, but he was just a status symbol, always was. He probably knew it too and that's why he never bit my bait." Sebastian flashed a smirk as he heard the pun in his words and must not have been intentional but enjoyed it nonetheless. Sebastian was still the same, no matter what he said.
"I don't want to play, Sebastian." Kurt said tiredly and was suddenly face to face with Sebastian again as the other boy moved to block his exit and swooped down so they were eye to eye and only inches apart. Kurt gasped, remembering too vividly the last time Sebastian's face had been even closer. He shifted unsettled and uncomfortable due to reasons he shouldn't be feeling toward Sebastian and backed up into the alcove again.,Unknowingly he was playing into Sebastian's hand with that move, rather than pushing forward and leaving. Sebastian followed and Kurt found his back against another wall. He was cornered and he held his hands up, suddenly flashing back to another time this had happened but he didn't fear that it would be the same with Sebastian. Knew if Sebastian played the same role as his predecessor, Kurt would be responding to it, not pushing him away. That scared Kurt more than anything else.
"I'm not playing!" Sebastian was sounding frustrated. "I came to New York for you. I heard from David and Wes that you frequented this club with your friends, I was trying to run into you in a way that didn't seem so intimidating, more happenstance. If it didn't work, I would have sought you out elsewhere. Frankly, I hoped I'd get you alone on the dance floor and hold this delectable body in my arms but your guard dog wouldn't let me close." Sebastian slid a finger underneath Kurt's chin, tipping his head up. "Except I did get to hold it in the end, didn't I? You slid so easily into my arms."
"You're a jerk and you haven't changed one bit." Kurt pulled his head away and this time he dared to put his hands on Sebastian to push him back. "I'm out. Take your lies and games somewhere else because I'm not playing."
"Why are you so sure that I'm playing a game?" Sebastian didn't move an inch and Kurt cursed out the fact that while he'd gotten stronger and more muscular, Sebastian had always been that way and was more so.
"Not only is it the rich boy's purview but you personally have always played games. You will always play games."
"The games I like to play will only bring you pleasure." Sebastian's voice turned husky. "You'll like them if you just give it a chance."
"Stop." Kurt warned, lifting one of his hands to put his finger in Sebastian's face. "I'm not going to participate."
"You'll change your tune." Sebastian nipped at the finger and Kurt pulled it back quickly before he could but Sebastian moved and allowed Kurt an escape. Kurt took the opportunity and returned to his friends. He heard Sebastian's mocking laugh and words. "Run little boy, run, but I'll catch you still."
He tugged at Rachel to get her awake and up out of her seat and kept pushing for Santana to stop making out with her girlfriend. They had to go, the girlfriend could come or stay, didn't matter. Elliot put his hands on Kurt's shoulders to try and steady him. He found the smaller boy shaking in his grasp and questioned him over it.
Santana's eyes sharpened as she listened to Elliot ask and she was right there next to the. "What happened?" She demanded, suddenly taking his anxious need to go seriously. He sometimes got something in his head and tried to push them out and onto the next venture with false urgency before but he was never as frantic as he was now.
"S-Sebastian." He said knowing it wouldn't go over well. Instead of Santana spinning on her heel to go after the taller guy, she turned to slid an arm around Rachel and bodily lifted her up.
"Let's go." She snapped at the smaller girl who stumbled while standing still. Santana's girlfriend looked at them in confusion. Santana looked over to her with an apologetic look in her otherwise hard face. "I'll explain later."
It was a long ride back, just as Kurt suspected but this time for an entirely different reason as he and Santana kept Rachel propped up or made sure she was sitting without sliding out of her chair depending on the connection. It was a even longer ride back as Santana fumed and her eyes didn't budge from Kurt's red face. She held her tongue though, and he was thankful for that small blessing.
–
Sebastian was relentless. He would show up at every single one of Kurt's hangouts eventually. Once he spotted the taller guy at one of his safe havens, it would be burnt and forced Kurt to find a new spot. It was in one of these new spots that he called David and Wes into a joint conversation with glares sent his way for disrupting the quiet with a telephone call. It was fine if he was having a conversation with someone else in person as long as they kept their tone and volume low. This place just didn't quite feel right even without the glares. It wasn't the same as the coffee shop he had painstakingly scouted when he first arrived. He had wanted a place that was conveniently located within he triangle of home, work and school.
He had one year left of school but work had shifted to another location, yet the coffee shop was still conveniently located. It also had the perfect atmosphere of busy yet peaceful, warm and comfortable, especially in the winter. His friends could easily find him within it but he could be left alone and overlooked by a majority of the population.
They both picked up and he glared at their faces through his phone. "How could you give Sebastian all my haunts? Just.. how could you?" He was so offended, hurt and annoyed by the very personal betrayal.
"Have you actually heard him out?" Wes asked, not looking repentant at all.
"You'll be thanking us the next time we speak if you were to actually do so." David looked quite proud of himself.
"But all of them?" Kurt whined.
"We didn't give him your home address." Wes defended the two of them. "I didn't even know he asked you too." Wes chuckled, that was clearly meant for David.
"Well of course he did, we didn't spend weeks in France without opening up on deep intimate details with all that amazing wine surrounding us for super cheap." Not that any of them blinked an eye when it came to the price of anything. It could all be ridiculously expensive and the three of them would purchase the store out of stock and demand they scrounged up any more they could in the vicinity and bring it to them. The vicinity being the entire state.
Kurt rolled his eyes. "You didn't think to ask me or question whether or not I would be receptive to Sebastian stalking me?" His eyes narrowed on their blasé faces, they thought they were totally in the right here, if they cared at all. "Why didn't you give him my home address?" They'd given him his work address, his school schedule for crying out loud! He definitely didn't think their scruples held them back from telling Sebastian where he lived. It would have been the easiest place to corner him on, the fast too.
They answered together without hesitation or planning. "Santana."
He breathed in sharply through his nose. Of course. That did give him an idea though. "You two are dead to me from now on." Kurt hissed and almost closed the connection with them when David spoke.
"Do you want to know the latest gossip here first? It has to do with your beloved." He teased.
"I don't have a beloved." Kurt's nostrils flared. Blaine had lost that title early into Kurt's junior year. He had nearly gone to Lima after Rachel had left New York but Santana had sat on him and didn't let him go. Rachel had just been back for winter break and she was back there again. What he'd understood, she'd taken her television money and had saved the Glee Club for another year. She'd said something about Blaine joining the Dalton team to help them compete again. Between the proposal and a member from the team they had attacked coming in to spearhead the team, they were back in the good graces of the judges and council. They disregarded or forgot the fact that Blaine was originally from that school.
Rachel and Blaine were still tight as thieves even after everything that had gone down. Except now they were mentoring opposing teams. He hadn't heard much other than Rachel's rant about his betrayal and how he should be helping her with the school he graduated from.
Kurt almost went to join her with the study project that NYADA offered but that's when Santana had stopped him, talking sense into him. He had wanted to... he didn't know. He missed his family, he missed Rachel for Pete's sake! She had been his roommate for the last 2 years and it was lonely without their third plus whoever they all brought into the apartment. Santana was there and he loved her dearly but he he missed the busyness of the underclassmen that had followed Blaine out and had sense gone home or elsewhere even before he and Blaine broke up.
He hadn't been sure if he wanted to go back to McKinley to relieve the old days despite how terrible they were too. Or if he wanted to go to support Rachel or become a big shot in his own right, a look at me moment, after getting into NYADA in the end and excelling. He'd beaten Rachel in a Diva Off without needing his dad's intervention to make it happen. He was top of his class and was well liked by the instructors. Still though, no credits to his name, just a few rich backers who had originally been interested in rich-boy Blaine, someone they had prior connections to even if they never met. Old money stuck together but Kurt had proven himself.
Because Blaine had made the opportunity to do so happen, a few times, he also felt a little... beholden to Blaine? He owed Blaine for helping him out, encouraging him and so he also thought maybe he wanted to go back to Ohio to be able to see Blaine, perhaps fall back into old habits and reclaim that love they'd had while they both lived there, but were unable to maintain when either or both lived in New York. He'd come back when he was with Adam and had fallen into that role again with Blaine so easily. Maybe they just needed to be in Ohio to work?
Santana had smacked him when he'd voiced that part of his thoughts and his cheek stung for days. She'd laid into him about how stupid that was, if they could only work when there was a limited, hidden population of gay boys and nothing else to do but vanilla jobs then they weren't meant to be together. A real couple could make it through anything and the city and all that it had to offer was not going to get in the way of them.
He'd accepted her words with surprising grace, well after he railed against her hitting him and ruining his complexion until the redness faded. She'd apologized when it actually bruised a couple of hours later. She hadn't thought she hit him that hard and had forgotten how sensitive and thin his skin physically was.
Part of him thought he wanted to go back to Lima and co-chair the McKinley Glee Club just to stick it to Blaine if they won. There was still some resentment in him toward Blaine and how they'd left everything. If he could take Blaine back and weather all his crazy accusations of Kurt cheating, then Blaine should have been accepting of Kurt's desire to slow down the wedding plans. It had been too much too quickly with all their history. It had felt like Blaine was pushing so hard because he was afraid of exactly what happened. Except for it had been Blaine who'd left in a huff and swearing they'd never get together again and that it was all Kurt's fault.
That had stung more than anything else, it had been Kurt trying the hardest to keep them going, together, it had been Kurt who had to get over several really big emotions and memories. It was too much for Blaine to claim such a thing just because Kurt was sometimes late with everything he had going on and didn't have the energy to plan their wedding just then, when the wedding would be years off down the road. He'd been crazy to accept the engagement in the first place. He had just felt too much pressure to say yes even though he knew it was going to happen before he even stepped into the building. He hadn't expected the sheer scale that Blaine had gone to. He should have though, Blaine never did anything on a small scale or in the background. Big gestures were all that Blaine knew.
He hadn't wanted to hear anything about Blaine once Blaine got into a depressed state and headed back to Ohio. He wasn't even going to university there, just spending all his time at his former school. He'd gotten into NYADA so easily with his name and money and had dropped out again as if it were nothing. There was a bit of resentment in Kurt about that too. Some resentment toward NYADA and Rachel too after she'd botched it and still got in over him.
He was the one in the end who'd stuck it out and was a little over a year from graduating. She'd also dropped out so easily, choosing first the stage then the television screen and finally McKinley over NYADA. All her decisions since Finn's death had been totally against her plans all her life. Maybe the loss of Finn had disrupted her braincells and she had gone nuts or she had been shaken loose of her sole drive and realized that life was too short to be so solely focused. She was missing out on the world around her, not that her behavior over spring break had shown her to be all that different than before Finn's death. She was still self-centered and making rash decisions against everything staring her in the face, such as the fact that she was hitting on a gay guy who obviously had no interest in her that way.
Part of him was giving NYADA the finger by staying when their golden eggs had dropped out. He was a senator's son but he was still second choice and he was going to show them that they couldn't just rule him out because he came from very blue collar roots. He was going to make it, use them to forge his path and get ahead in this world. If they thought he'd contribute in the future as an alumni, well, they'd be very wrong there. He'd use their name to make his but if he financed anything when he was rich and famous, he'd create a scholarship for someone deserving, someone who was like him, struggling to rub two coins together but with a big dream and talent that was disregarded until he (or she) smacked them in the face with it. He would use his clout to view the auditions and make his own decision on what he'd do with the money.
"Kurt?"
"Kurrrt?"
"Kurtie?"
They were having fun singing his name and he was glad he was wearing earbuds so no one else could hear their annoying efforts. It wasn't that he was daydreaming or lost in thoughts, no it was because he hadn't said yes yet.
"Come on Kurt, you know you want to know."
"It's juicy."
"You'll get a kick out of it."
"Kuuurrrt." They were trying to goad him into it.
"No, he's out of my life."
"He'll never be out of your life, he's still incredibly wealthy and has a family name." Wes stated obnoxiously right, especially if Kurt stayed friends with these two. They all had a similar circle that they had folded him into even before his dad had his own name and clout.
These were true friends that didn't actually care about Kurt being truly one of them in the way their parents cared about. Another source of contention between Kurt and Blaine's parents. His dad was a homophobe anyway but the fact that Blaine had chosen someone like Kurt was only tempered once Burt became a senator. Sebastian had fun pointed that out once about 4 years ago, another reason he couldn't trust anything the guy said to the contrary.
"No." Kurt repeated. "Whatever it is, it'll blow over soon, Blaine's unlikely to find anyone in Ohio that's ready to move at his pace. I don't need to know, I never need to know."
"This is one that will totally change your opinion on that." David said.
"It will guarantee that you never take him back again." Wes agreed with a greedy smile.
They were friends with Blaine, he couldn't get why they were so opposed to them being together. "I don't care. I'm never taking him back again anyway, so save your breath. It's not an image that I need in my head for even a moment."
"It's Karofsky!" David blurted out before Kurt could cut the connection.
Instead of having a laugh with them over the name, which they found highly amusing for reasons that Kurt couldn't comprehend, Kurt's face turned livid. "Karofsky?" Their laughter died just in time at the furious hiss and Kurt broke the call off. They were both talking quickly, trying to say something, but Kurt didn't hear them.
He had another phone call to make and this time, it couldn't be in the coffee shop, he'd probably get kicked out anyway if he tried. He stormed home and dialed Blaine's phone number who picked up excitedly on the first ring. "Kurt? Hi!"
Kurt laid into him so fiercely and fast it left Blaine's ears ringing and feeling gutted. Blaine had been sending him periodic texts despite their final conversation in New York and what he'd said. He kept telling Kurt that he could never be with anyone else after what they had, that the time he cheated and only confirmed it. Kurt knew he'd eventually move on, but not with Karofsky.
Wes and David were right, with that knowledge there was never going to be a chance for Klaine to reform. Not with Kurt being the K at any rate. He'd been softening with all the apologetic, warm texts but he hadn't answered any of the calls, hadn't called Blaine until just then. Blaine had thought there would be a chance, that Kurt was calling to take him back. That was done now, forever. After he hung up on Blaine without letting him say another word, he instantly blocked Blaine's number even as it lit up his phone when Blaine called him back to say his piece.
–
"What the hell are you doing here?" Santana yelled, pulling Kurt from his room to see who had fired her up. His presence would only serve as a distraction for whoever dared to invade their space. They would miss the fact that the scarier one physically was Santana even though Kurt was the male. She'd take them down instantly whereas Kurt wasn't exactly a fighter. He'd pushed guys back before and had lifted weights and did stage combat, but that was the extent of it. Santana had been in several knock down and dirty fights since middle school, usually with girls but she'd fought and won against boys too. She'd only ever lost to Lauren in the past.
The tall lanky form of Sebastian stood in the door frame and he looked over Santana's head easily to look at Kurt. A smile blossomed on Sebastian's face at seeing the other boy. Santana tried to block his path as he brushed passed her and strode confidently toward Kurt.
"What the hell, Sebastian?" He'd had Santana accompany him everywhere he went that was a familiar location over the last few days and had seen Sebastian turn tail and run. His plan had worked up until just this moment where they were all together in a surprisingly large space but still closed in with walls and only a few exits.
Santana launched herself at him, intending to knock the taller guy off his feet and pin him to the floor. Again he proved to be unmovable by an outside force even as he continued walking to Kurt. Since he kept moving, Santana was alone on the floor. Sebastian's hands cupped Kurt's cheeks and he held his gaze. "Call off your guard dog, Kurt, we need to talk honestly for awhile. I'm not leaving until we clear the air."
It was hard to say no while they were in this position, Sebastian's warm hands distracting and drawing at the same time. He had relieved that kiss so many times since the last time they'd been this close. He really had never had a kiss so good in his life. It was something he thought about at all the inconvenient moments without intending to and at the moments when he could do something about what it did to his body. Except, the thing that always held him back from reaching back out was the fact that it was Sebastian.
Kurt looked up into Sebastian's face, seeing the honesty and intensity. His eyes lingered on Sebastian's lips which quirked knowingly and his eyes snapped to those green ones expecting mocking, but only saw desire and understanding in return. There was also a bit of desperation and determination in them too. It was the desperation that swayed Kurt though the determination would have worn him down eventually. It wasn't like either he or Santana would actually call the cops on him.
"All right." He breathed, his body so tempted to tug Sebastian closer and close that gap between them and maybe move them to the bedroom to close other gaps. He was honest with himself, ever since he'd first laid eyes on Sebastian, he had always wondered what it would be like with him. All that experience had to be good for something, right? "Santana, don't you have to go see your girlfriend?"
"We broke up." Santana said without a hint of remorse, Santana had gone through girlfriends pretty quickly after she'd broken up with Brittany. He didn't even necessarily learn their names any more since they were often gone within a month. He learned it enough to use it to their face but it disappeared from his thoughts and memory soon after, faster than Santana probably forgot their names. She called them all Babe, learning something from Puck and her time hooking up with him. That way she couldn't mix up the names and have them leave before she was done with them.
"Then maybe you should go out looking for the next one?" He said a little pointedly and she raised an eyebrow.
"As if I'm going to leave you with the Meerkat."
"Santana." He plead with his voice and eyes.
"Fine." She snapped and spun around, grabbing her phone and heading out.
"Now... what did you want to say?"
"Later, first this." Sebastian closed that gap he was bemoaning and kissed Kurt again. It wasn't the same as the last time, that one had been with a stranger. This one was with Sebastian, with all the mixed emotions that went with it within the familiarity of the lips he'd first learned not too long ago and the memory it pulled up. Sebastian's kiss was still fantastic and unlike anything he'd experienced before. It still blew his mind and sucked him into the moment and sensation and complete lack of regard for everything that had come before or the consequences of kissing his once nemesis or any thoughts to the future. Kurt's hands left his sides and slid to rest on Sebastian's before slipping around to his back, up under his shirt and rested along the curve of Sebastian's spine, pressing them together even more.
The longer they kissed, the more all that other stuff drifted away, replaced with the burning desire to continue it and do so much more. It came down to the sole focus of their lips, the connection of them, of their bodies as Sebastian's hands moved from Kurt's cheeks to one curving along the base of his skull and the other sliding down Kurt's back until it rested on his tailbone, pressing him into his body, closing the gap of the last part of their bodies that hadn't been pressed flush together.
All Kurt could comprehend was the feeling of their bodies and lips together, the desire for more. The fire between them and the touch of his hands on Sebastian's smooth back. The fact that it was Sebastian didn't matter but it should have. His brain niggled that worm through his skull and down through his body and he registered that fact with a moan. He wanted Sebastian so much but knew that it was nuts to want this particular man, ever. He had already hurt him so much, so severely and he shouldn't give him access to even more ways to do so. He had no idea of his motives and that was something that needed to be sorted out, now.
He pulled his mouth away, panting hard and was pleased to see that Sebastian looked as lost in the moment, was breathing heavily and as turned on as Kurt was. The passion clouding over Sebastian's eyes almost had Kurt throwing out his last reservations and pulling Sebastian back in. He was tempted to knock Sebastian down onto the couch and cover his body with his own, not caring that Santana could come whirling back in at any moment.
That did drench him with an ice cold shiver though as it reminded him of the other two guys he'd had on that couch in the past. He glanced around his place, recalling the three men of congress he'd had in this place and how hard he had to work to keep it from reminding him so he could get on with his life. He didn't want to add Sebastian to that list, no matter how much his body said otherwise.
Sebastian used that moment to calm down too and also looked around, but his face was turning into a darker and darker frown as he took in the place. Kurt's hackles rose, so what if it wasn't a posh fancy place? He'd done an amazing job covering the industrial space in furniture and artwork to make it feel more homey and he thought he did a good job, especially with his budget. The girls had never complained, liking to spend time here, if it hadn't been comfortable, they would have spent their time with their dates at their places instead of theirs. Even when both weren't with someone, they spent a lot of time at home, choosing to hang out here.
Rachel and Kurt had found the place and Rachel had been giddy with the space and had put the down payment on it instantly. She still contributed to the rent because she loved it so even though she only spent two weeks here in the last 8 months.
"If you're just going to come in here and judge my poor roots and funds, you can go." Kurt snapped and took his hands from Sebastian and tried to take a step back. Sebastian linked his hands together behind Kurt and kept him close.
"Stop, no, you did a good job with the space, it's not that. It's the space itself, the location and the lack of security. It's a wonder you haven't been robbed or murdered in your sleep."
He hadn't needed to buzz or unlock the front door to come upstairs. He had knocked on the door but hadn't seen Santana grab keys on her way out. He had thought maybe that's because she knew Kurt was inside but she couldn't guarantee that Kurt wouldn't leave before she got back and wouldn't lock her out by accident. He'd spent his time calming down to glance at the door and had frowned when he realized it hadn't a lock that he could see anywhere on it from this short distance away. He'd also seen their only window besides the small ones near the roof that looked stationary. The window led out to a fire escape and the latch was broken.
Other than the heat coming from Kurt, it felt a little too chilly in here for spring. He shivered a little with the cold. He had been fine outside with a lightweight coat because he'd been moving but he would have dressed warmer if he'd planned to hang outside Kurt's door for him to come out if he couldn't find a way to be buzzed up. He had been on a recon mission originally, see what he was dealing with and his access to Kurt. If no one buzzed him up, he'd have come back dressed warmer to wait him out on his way to anywhere he needed to go. Now he felt like he needed that warmer coat for inside Kurt's apartment. No wonder they seemed to be constantly on the move to different venues, they had to find a way to warm up when their own place was seriously lacking heat. What was it like in the winter?
He caught the flush come over Kurt's face and his frown deepened even further. "You've been robbed in here?"
Kurt looked away, it had been a sore memory for him. He'd slept with the robber who'd totally humiliated him afterward. The fact that Santana had been all over him and would have slept with him if he hadn't been more into Kurt and probably would have tied her up after wasn't much of a balm. Santana wouldn't have gone down as easily and the others would have woken up as she fought him. It could have saved them all a lot of trouble and heartache. Then again, had Santana been the one in bed with him and she fought back, it could have gotten a lot worse for her and the others. They'd heard about this particular Santa hitting up other malls and some of the victims hadn't gotten off quite so lucky. "It was our own fault, we invited him in." He mumbled, not wanting to go into it.
Sebastian's body was tense as he took in that response. "Otherwise this place hasn't been hit?"
Kurt shrugged. "We live in an area where everyone is struggling to make it through the year. They know we don't have much."
"Even though you three dress like you have more money than any of us from Dalton?" His hands didn't miss the fact that Kurt's body was covered in sheer luxury and he had eyes and knew fashion enough to know that these were designer labels. He didn't wear them himself, but he recognized them.
"We know our neighbors and more than that, they know us. They know we're struggling students with a long commute just to save whatever money we can." Santana wasn't, and Rachel wasn't any more, but that was besides the point. No one knew Rachel was rich or Kurt was the son of a senator. The fact that most people didn't know senators, especially ones from different states was a blessing. He'd have been even less of an unknown if his dad was a congressman. Santana... Kurt never knew what her story was with money, she had been given her school funds in one lump that she flaunted. Even after burning through that money, she always seemed to have more. She was the most famous face amongst them since she starred in a commercial but she hadn't gotten money out of that deal. Her parents must still somehow be supporting her.
"You're- you- god, what are your parents all thinking? Any of them come visit you here?" Sebastian shook his head. "Any one of you would be good hostage material and worth some serious ransom. There's not even a single working lock in this place." That was true, even the bathroom didn't have a lock.
"They wouldn't get any money for me." When Blaine was living there, that was someone they could tap for serious money. Rachel too, he supposed now that Sebastian pointed it out. Again he didn't know about Santana – he didn't ask and she didn't share. The family had to have some money though if they could pay part of her rent? Though she'd somehow conned them to let her live there for free for a year before they wised up.
"You're a senator's son!" Sebastian snapped, annoyed at the complete lack of effort that went into any of their safety. "You've been living on borrowed time here for the last few years. Sooner or later someone is going to wise up to who you are and apply their advantage."
"What person with money in their right mind would live in this part of town? The more decrepit and poor we look the better it is to keep the target off our backs. If we don't look like we're important, no one is going to think we are. If we lived in some fancy uptown rich place, that's a clear sign saying to please target us. The more locks you have and the higher the walls the more someone wants to breech it." Kurt wasn't talking just for his sake but it was kind of obvious to him, the more you tried to keep someone out the more they wanted in. He'd definitely felt that in the past about different areas he was told he wasn't allowed into.
"But basic security measurements shouldn't change that!" Sebastian argued. "You shouldn't be living here like this. You at least need a lock on the window and your door and not to mention the building's door. What's to keep any random person out? You could come home to someone sleeping in your bed."
They'd found Santana that way, but Kurt refused to let Sebastian see that truth on his face. Thankfully it was a friend and not a stranger, but still. He'd also found homeless people sleeping in the staircases before when the temperatures outside dipped too low to stay out there. It was clear of them now that the weather was warmer. It was just occasional, he'd gotten used to it and was unconcerned.
"And the temperature in here, do you even have a working furnace?"
"We keep the heat up enough so the pipes don't freeze." Kurt agreed. "Anything more is too expensive. It's why we have a lot of warm blankets." Also why they kept their electronics down to a minimum, they didn't have the funds to spend on electricity like that. In the coldest days of the winter they turned up the heat enough to do as he said. Sometimes they'd burn a log in the fire pit he'd found when furniture hunting. They had to be careful though, they had to keep the window open so the smoke wouldn't cover everything in the apartment and sometimes the heat from the fire just wasn't enough to combat having the cold wind sweep in.
"I'm moving you out of here today. It's something your parents should have done ages ago. They never should have let you live here in the first place." Sebastian stated with all the confidence wealth, power, looks and charisma had afforded him all his life.
Kurt snorted in disbelief. "What makes you think you have any say over where I live?"
"I-" Sebastian realized he had no say in it actually and his arms tightened around Kurt. "I never imagined you lived in a place like this. I'm surprised there aren't mice, rats and cockroaches running around the place."
"As if that would ever be a case where I lived!" Kurt had the place fumigated 3 times since they found the place, once before they moved in and twice after Blaine brought in the lice and termite infested couch. "I'm too clean for that." Although Santana and Blaine had both been slobs. Santana had started picking up better once Blaine moved out and wasn't goaded into being worse than she naturally was. Rachel had helped him curb that behavior at least with Santana. She never tried with Blaine. Then again Blaine could do no wrong in her eyes, even if he was doing Karofsky.
Santana's response to that had been. "Finally! You deserve someone who deserves you!"
Sebastian groaned as if reading Kurt's mind, knowing Santana would never think that about him. His words though harkened back to their actual conversation and not Kurt's thoughts.
"I keep putting my foot in my mouth with you. I'm not used to this."
"Used to what? Snark? Sarcasm? Antagonizing someone?"
"No!" Sebastian dragged Kurt dramatically against his body, showing Kurt exactly what he was experiencing.
"That's something hard to believe that you've never experienced before. I have it on good authority this happens to you quite often."
"Shut up Kurt and hear me out." Sebastian snapped at him. "What I'm not used to is trying to talk to someone I have actual real feelings toward and trying to explain myself and apologize for past bad behavior."
"Yes, apologizing could be hard, especially for someone like you. I think I only saw it once before."
"What did I say about interrupting me?" Sebastian asked dangerously and Kurt opened his mouth to talk when Sebastian stopped him with his own covering his and his tongue taking the open mouth as an invitation to invade the caverns behind it.
This time they did end up on the couch with Kurt below Sebastian. It was Sebastian who pulled away, his hips grinding into Kurt's but he struggled to find sanity. Kurt grabbed at him, his body taking over finally without a care about why it shouldn't and especially with who it shouldn't. Sebastian took Kurt's hands and pinned them above his head. "Kurt, I need to say this." It was a low throaty groan/growl and it excited Kurt even more. He bucked up against Sebastian who nearly threw all caution to the wind and tied them together intimately first. It would guarantee him an audience but it would muddy things further. It had been his initial plan but he saw recently the trouble with it.
"Why are you here?" Kurt finally asked once Sebastian's weight over him restricted him enough to calm down enough to think about something other than their bodies joining. It wasn't gone completely, but he was a bit more clear headed.
"I told you-"
"No, I mean in New York at this time. Shouldn't you be at school?" It was the middle of the term after all.
"In Europe we have 2 weeks off, not just one like here." He had to go back soon and he wasn't going to lose his opportunity. Who knew what another few months would bring? David had a miniature early semester study abroad session in Paris and had roomed with Sebastian. They'd mostly drank and sang between study sessions and classes. David was less focused on classes than Sebastian just because he was going to take over his daddy's business and everything he needed to actually know and learn would be hands on and had attempted to get Sebastian out more.
Except Sebastian had been roiling with the information that he'd helped Blaine permanently get Kurt. Something he hadn't wanted and had only gone along with it since he thought Kurt would say no and Blaine deserved the public humiliation. It was ridiculous to say yes when you had been broken up until 5 minutes before the proposal. Then he'd seen the indecision and strain on Kurt's face when he said yes. Sebastian realized the yes had been under duress with all eyes on him, desperate to take the focus off of him. Sebastian learned then that Kurt only liked the spotlight on him when it came to his talent, nothing else.
He nearly stepped in and called an end to the whole farce when Kurt's answer stopped him cold. Yes. Yes? Sebastian thought he'd read Kurt all wrong, maybe the unease was just being spotlighted rather than an inappropriate proposal.
He didn't even wait for graduation to transfer back to France, unable to see Blaine's smug face around the school whenever he visited. He hadn't been interested in other boys like he had after the fiasco with Karofsky and guys asked him out constantly in France. It was after he turned down a really hot guy during his freshman year did he realize he hadn't slept with anyone since he got to France. He got annoyed with himself and called the guy back and agreed to go out with him. He tried the relationship thing, tried to tune in and focus on another human being. Tried to get rid of the thoughts that kept invading his brain. If he could focus on someone else, then he could be interested in someone else and care about them. The hot guy didn't last long, a month or so. He was determined that it was just because he was boring and so he sought out someone that he thought was interesting.
A year passed and he was a sophomore and had 2 more boyfriends under his belt. David came out for a mini-study abroad and mentioned that Sebastian wasn't sleeping around like he used to. Sebastian defended himself and claimed it wasn't as often as David thought but yeah, he liked sex and guys and had slept with some. He'd talked it up as more often just to irritate a few of the prudes but it wasn't as glamorous as they thought. In fact, it had felt cheap and meaningless and he'd confirmed it with having a few caring relationships with people he thought were interesting... for awhile.
It just made him realize yet again that he wanted for something and he couldn't have it.
Sebastian shared it all with David who was due back in the States after spring break. He'd had too much wine and David had blabbed it to Wes. Sebastian hadn't known it at the time though. Wes called like he usually did a few days later and on that video call, he'd explained that the last time he'd spoken to Kurt, he'd seemed pretty despondent. He hadn't been successful in his dating endeavors after he and Blaine broke up in October.
It had been the first time Sebastian had heard of the breakup. He'd nearly taken their heads off before he realized he hadn't told them, there was no way for them to know. Blaine had jumped the gun and had sent out Save the Date cards of which one had arrived on Sebastian's doorstep just after first semester finals. Blaine had thought he'd be married to Kurt by the end of Summer.
He decided to go back to Ohio with David, who'd happily cut his trip short by a week. He hoped to spot Kurt at home over spring break. He found out that Kurt had stayed in New York and flew out there instead. It led them all to this moment.
Sebastian talked low and fast and tried to get everything in before Kurt could try and interrupt again. He told him his story, how he'd slowly developing feelings for Kurt through the years. How his admiration had built and he'd always been physically attracted to him. At first he thought it was because he was physically attracted to any guy who was attractive. Then he kept thinking about Kurt even when he hadn't seen him for great lengths of time and in less and less frequency and duration when they did see each other. How it made him want to see him more. How he'd heard of Kurt and what he was up to periodically from their shared friends, even from Blaine. His admiration only grew and he was feeling proud of Kurt and no relationship or hookup could erase Kurt from his mind for even a moment, no matter how hard he tried.
He wanted Kurt physically and he liked who he was even if he'd been absolutely rubbish at showing it and would Kurt please please consider a long distance relationship? Even if it wasn't a romantic one, at least try a friendship on for size? Of course, being Sebastian he also added. "Or from what I can tell, something that would better suit the two of us- a friends with benefits situation." Kurt's face convinced him that it wasn't the right thing to say and he lowered his head to kiss that response off of Kurt's lips. "Ok, ok, not that." He muttered against Kurt's mouth. "Although another label would be hard to fit better."
Kurt struggled under him at that quip. He still had his arms pinned up over his head and he had stared at Sebastian in a daze for the entire story, thinking hard and taking it in at the same time. Sebastian didn't let him up, he was far too comfortable like this with Kurt. He'd never felt this way, just laying with someone with their clothes still on.
"Sebastian-." Kurt finally spoke when Sebastian gave him an opportunity after he laid it all out for him. "I don't like you." He repeated his words from so many years ago and Sebastian's hopes and heart crashed hard and shattered into a million pieces. He did let Kurt go then and started to move off of him. Kurt grabbed the front of his shirt and held him still. Sebastian looked at him in confusion. "I don't like you, but that doesn't mean with the right opportunity I couldn't. I'll try... this with you." Kurt wasn't sure what he could put on for a label either and then he shook his head, he was such an idiot too. "That's what dating is, isn't it? Getting to know the other person, seeing if you connect on different levels in different ways and connect in the right way. We both know I'm physically attracted to you but I don't know you. I only heard things about you in passing but nothing substantial. Apparently nothing like what people have been telling you about me. You don't even know if you really like me, it's been mostly hearsay." He held up a hand. "Admiration for how I can come back at you without hesitation or missing a beat isn't the same as liking me, that's just a surface thing. We could spend some time together and find we totally don't gel at all."
"So what do you propose?" Sebastian was open to whatever he had to say.
"When are you due back in France?"
"I leave in 2 days."
"Kept it for pretty late, haven't you?" Kurt said with a vein of disappointment in his voice and Sebastian began to argue since he'd been pursuing Kurt for almost 2 weeks. Kurt laughed and winked at him and took the sting out of his words. He had kept it pretty late though, a couple of years late. It had just taken him that much time to realize that there was one conquest he had left unmounted and it hadn't been the one he'd thought. Not that this was like that, not really, but it was something he couldn't get out of his system, nagging at him that he missed the one that really set his blood on fire. He'd misunderstood it as hatred for a long time, especially as it seemed mutual.
Sebastian bent his head and rested his forehead on Kurt's shoulder. "Why'd I have to go to school in France?"
"Well you wouldn't have had 2 weeks off if you didn't."
"True."
"And David wouldn't have 'studied abroad' in another state."
"Also true." Sebastian lifted his head and grinned wolfishly at Kurt. "So you're saying my living in France is actually a blessing?"
"Sure, but you'd probably have come around eventually."
"But you never would have." Sebastian put together.
"I might have found my way to France at some point in the future just to see what you were up to while I happened to be visiting one of the places in the world that I've most wanted to see." Kurt tipped his head. "By then I might have been wondering if I could have gotten a taste of the Sebastian charm or if that would always be off limits to me. Wouldn't have been so inhibited probably of going for it for a night."
"You would have angled for a one night stand with me in France?" There was an accent in there and Kurt had just unlocked it when he shocked Sebastian into betraying it. Kurt grinned triumphantly, there was a heavy amount of desire in those words too.
"What happens in France, stays in France."
"And potentially cheat on whoever you were with to get with me once?" That accent just deepened but Sebastian looked unsure now.
"Do you really peg me for a one-night cheater type? If I came to France I would have made sure I timed it to when I was unattached." Although it easily could have been him tied permanently to Blaine with no way out and Kurt would have never gone to France then. Sebastian was never going to move back to the States either.
Reassurance filtered through Sebastian's gaze then that gaze slowly trailed over Kurt's face. "Want that taste now?"
"I'd say it was too soon in the relationship, since we haven't even gone on a date yet, but considering it's been... what? 4 years of foreplay?" Kurt pulled Sebastian down happily taking that question out of the equation. Even if it all ended once they'd gotten together once, it was well worth it.
–
The date Blaine picked out did in fact herald a wedding at the end of that summer. Sebastian and Kurt attended wrapped up in each other and in each other's hands constantly. It wasn't their wedding and Santana glared moodily whenever she looked at Sebastian.
Brittany had given Kurt an invitation with the ability to bring a guest and he'd happily checked that he would have someone in attendance with him. They had invited him but it was just redundant courtesy since he was also the best man.
Sebastian had asked Kurt about the date and the wedding when he'd been asked after being in the States for the months following the end of the year of school. He'd been back one other time and it was for the weekend for Kurt's NYADA spring performance.
That had been awkward on numerous counts. Kurt hadn't known he was coming and hadn't known he was there until Sebastian pulled him into another alcove and covered his mouth with his, all too reminiscent of the first time they kissed. Kurt had his eyes open this time a lot sooner and grinned into the kiss seeing Sebastian. He pulled him in tighter and they nearly went too far for such a public hallway, even if they were out of view of anyone who wasn't looking. Except they were all looking as neither he nor Sebastian had been all that quiet.
Kurt was flaming red and Sebastian looked a little caught and embarrassed for being caught too. Sebastian gave Kurt another peck and made sure they both looked presentable before linking hands with Kurt and pulling him through the crowd of actors and whoever else was involved with a stage production. He was intent on dragging Kurt out of the building and to dinner and bed and not necessarily in that order but Kurt dug his heels in, quite literally. "We can't."
"You can get together with your friends and celebrate later. I have to get back on a plane to France by 2 pm tomorrow. Plenty of time to be with them this weekend." Sebastian being 6 hours ahead was sometimes a real pain in the butt.
"I can't." Kurt stressed, changing the pronoun. "My dad and Carole are here along with a whole horde of friends from Ohio. They came out especially to see the first show. They're just here for the weekend." Kurt gripped Sebastian's hand harder when he was about to pull away, thinking Kurt was choosing them over him. "Please don't make me choose. Come join us. We can do your plans with some modifications, ok? I want to see you, I'm really excited to see you. I didn't know you were coming otherwise I would have made different arrangements."
"Like I could have been anywhere else, you've talked about nearly literally nothing else for weeks." Sebastian sighed. Kurt wasn't choosing others over him, he wanted to include him, have his real life shared by Sebastian, make him even more a part of it. How could Sebastian be annoyed or say no?
Anger came later when Blaine sat down at the table with them. It had already been awkward getting introduced to Kurt's father without still never being on a proper date with Kurt but they had agreed to at least say they were dating officially and exclusively about a month prior; after they had gotten on fabulously over the phone, video chats and texts for a couple of weeks. It had been a step in the right direction.
"What's he doing here?" Sebastian asked from Kurt's side. Burt sat on his other side and Sebastian hadn't had to fight for the spot as Kurt pushed him into the seat before taking the spot next to him. Burt had only to lift a brow when someone tried to claim the other spot and they scurried out of it. Burt was intimidating, Sebastian realized although he hadn't used it on Sebastian... yet. He was just eying Sebastian cautiously, trying to sort out Sebastian's importance to his son and react accordingly.
Sebastian meanwhile was facilitating between being happy to be next to Kurt, worried about meeting the parents, especially one so scary when Kurt was a totally different type of scary when he got mad, feeling uncomfortable with so many of Kurt's old friends that still hated him and weren't pleased by his presence and glaring daggers at Blaine, furious that he was there and slightly worried that it was because he wanted Kurt back and Kurt would have gone back if Sebastian wasn't there. That still wasn't necessarily a given even with him present.
Kurt's words were terse and for Sebastian's ears alone and reassured Sebastian more than anything else could. "He's here to try and win me back. Choosing my moment in the spotlight to steal it for himself."
"Why's he at the table?" Sebastian wondered, obviously Kurt hadn't invited him along.
"He and Rachel are still besties." Kurt responded and probably would have said more but got pulled into a conversation from his other side, his head turned away from Sebastian and his fuming face. Sebastian caught Santana looking just about as pleased as Sebastian felt.
He felt a socked foot quickly butt up against the outside of the leg furthest from Kurt. His one next to Kurt was linked around Kurt's closest one. So he knew it definitely wasn't Kurt. He pretended as if he didn't feel it, glancing at Blaine who was trying to pretend that he wasn't up to something. He was watching Kurt's face closely, looking for a reaction to the action. Sebastian felt his insides burn and then decided to play it cool, get back at Blaine for thinking he could attempt something with Sebastian so close. Sebastian lowered his hand to Kurt's thigh without Blaine noticing. Kurt started to turn his head but Sebastian leaned forward and whispered in his ear. "Don't look at me." Kurt glanced back at him with a frown anyway, not understanding and Sebastian smiled sly at him. "Trust me, don't look at me." Kurt had been the one to link their legs in the first place and so focused harder on the conversation around him.
Sebastian brushed his fingers along Kurt's thigh the second he felt Blaine's foot stroke what he thought was Kurt's leg. He misjudged the angle and distance and it didn't help that Sebastian was sitting straight forward but his lower half was angled into Kurt's space and so his leg was near where Kurt's would have been.
Kurt blushed slightly with the touch and Blaine took that as a cue to press his luck. As his foot rubbed up the length of Sebastian's leg – another obvious indicator that Blaine had not been present for Kurt's growth spurt, he would have realized even with that extra length, Kurt's legs were not as long as Sebastian's – Sebastian ran his fingers along Kurt's thigh. The boy shivered a little and Sebastian internally laughed, knowing he'd been the one to do it to Kurt, not Blaine and he felt noting but the foot when Blaine touched him. Blaine thought the reaction was for him and became even bolder despite the fact that Kurt's family and friends were all present. His foot made it's way inward and brushed up against it's target, intending to get Kurt off. Sebastian kept himself from shifting uncomfortably, just livid that Blaine thought he'd get away with this. Sebastian didn't touch Kurt intimately like that, he didn't want to bring Blaine into that part of their relationship.
Instead he tickled Kurt's under-knee and Kurt reached underneath the table to still his hand before he busted out laughing. He'd already jumped slightly at the new touch. The exact movement Blaine was hoping for and he rubbed his foot against Sebastian who'd also put his other hand under the table and put a hand on the foot, as if he were helping Blaine get to that end goal. Except he thought it was Kurt helping him out and when he ran his foot up higher, into Sebastian's hand, Sebastian curled his hand around Blaine's foot and squeezed, hard.
Blaine howled in pain as Sebastian's grasp was incredibly painful he tried to jerk his foot away but Sebastian just tightened his hold. "Kurt!" Blaine said with tears of pain in his eyes. "Let go, please! I'm sorry, I thought you were liking it."
Kurt looked incredibly confusion and he let go of Sebastian's hand on his knee and leaned with hands on the table. Sebastian tightened his grip on Blaine's foot, hoping he'd broken at least one bone. If nothing else, it would be painful to walk on for awhile and bruised severely with a lot of inflammation.
Blaine looked incredibly confused in his pain fog. "Your hands-"
"Are you ok?" Kurt asked, just his nature to be concerned about someone he didn't like anymore.
"Your hands-"
"What about them?" Kurt held them up to his own inspection and that's when Sebastian let go of Blaine's foot and shoved it away from him. It landed on the floor painfully and Blaine grunted out in pain. His eyes shot to Sebastian, realizing what happened now. He glowered but it was not the least bit intimidating. "You!"
Sebastian held his hands up in peace. "What?"
"You- you-" And he realized he couldn't explain what happened as everyone at the table looked at him in varying degrees of care. It would only cast himself into a bad light. "Never mind." He pulled his foot back to his side and tried to get his shoe back on. Slowly people started looking away from Blaine and chalking it up to being Blaine.
Then Sebastian was gone by the next performance, he had school in the morning even though it was only Saturday in New York. It might have only been 6 hours ahead but it also took a few hours to get back to France and so it put him well into Sunday morning by the time he got back. He'd held back until Kurt had to go warm up. He'd had studying to do too and hadn't even tried since he had Kurt in his arms.
Wes and David came out for the Sunday matinee performance, claiming it was the most neglected time slot and they wanted all of Kurt's attention afterward. Which it was since the family and friends residing out of state had to go back and they did get his undivided attention. Sebastian would have to remember that for future performances.
Santana went home for the summer, claiming it was just too hot and muggy in New York without an A/C. Kurt remained in New York seemingly on his own as even Elliot headed back to Jersey for the summer. His parents had a beach house and he'd invited Kurt out who said he'd let him know when he could find a break at work to come out for the weekend. Elliot came back for a few gigs but they were still trying to pick up steam for their band and whenever Kurt could score a spot, Elliot would be back.
Seeing his opportunity to monopolize Kurt's time, Sebastian came back with the intention of bunking with Kurt rather than just spending time with him on dates. If Santana had stayed, Sebastian wouldn't have ever once dreamed of staying in Kurt's apartment.
Sebastian tinkered around with the A/C but even when he got it working, Kurt unplugged it with a scold. He lectured Sebastian how it was better to be as close to the outside temp as possible because of costs and easier transition on the body to not have such an extreme temperature change every time you were in and out of buildings. It was the same argument as he'd given in the spring about the heater.
Sebastian couldn't handle it and so spent a lot of time in other buildings while passing the time Kurt was at work. His work place was cooler by the patrons but in the back it was hot and potentially even hotter than being outside under the sun. He saw Kurt lose a lot of water weight that he didn't realize Kurt could lose in a very short time period. Kurt kept pushing himself. Sebastian had made sure to push a bottle of water into Kurt's hands every time he saw Kurt whether it was in the morning before he left or in the evening when Kurt came back.
Sebastian had spent a lot of his time at the art galleries in town and other museums. He went to the science museum several times that first couple of weeks. It was cool inside and had a lot of interesting exhibits that he spent a lot of time reading over. The art galleries and museums were just a private fascination. Whenever he was waiting for Kurt to wake up or get back from classes when Sebastian was in Paris, he'd spent in the museums there. The Louvre knew his face and barely even glanced at him when he scanned his student badge for the free hours before closing for his ilk. He could easily have afforded the ticket price every time, but he liked being part of a very specific group that had nothing to do with what was just outright handed to him. He should have been studying at those times but he spent it with the works of art, losing himself in the sheer talent and beauty and skill before the announcement came across that the building was closing.
Sebastian would head out and study until his phone rang. Sebastian was still studying even during this summer vacation and he would go to a coffee shop and drink a hot coffee while he studied in the AC room. It was a little opposite but he was a purist, coffee was never served cold. It was no longer coffee at that point anyway since they put so much other stuff in it. No, he liked the espresso black or a cafe au lait if he was feeling fancy. He'd tried all the rest from expert baristas but he found he preferred Kurt's coffee shop and the two options he went between. They were fair baristas, definitely better than most in Ohio but nothing like their Italian counterparts when he'd spent time in Florence or the French, especially in Paris. He was sure there were better baristas in New York, had to be, but he could see the draw this place had on Kurt.
It was nice for Sebastian because he knew when Kurt swung through for a morning, mid day or evening pick up and they'd share a kiss, Kurt would grab his coffee and Sebastian would press another bottle of water into his hand if it was the midday or evening round. Often the morning one had them going together. He bought a machine and had it arriving later that week so he could drink it with Kurt on the weekends rather than leaving bed and maybe reducing the speed Kurt got ready in the morning if he didn't have to stop there first.
It was a particularly hot muggy day where no matter what you did, unless you were in front of a freezing A/C that had been at that temp for hours could you get dry or cool down that Kurt fainted at work. Sebastian had been called, the paramedic finding his number easily in Kurt's phone and he'd practically ran to get there. He was drenched but he was fairly certain the humidity only played a small role compared to the exertion and panic sweat also gathering on his skin.
Kurt was sitting in the back of the employee's lounge with the paramedic scolding him while checking his BP again and Kurt was drinking the bottle of water that he was given. There were ice packs under his arms and around his neck and on his forehead and anywhere that could help cool him off quickly. He was soaking wet too and it wasn't from the ice's condensation. The room back there was a moderately warm temp but definitely not cool enough by far in Sebastian's opinion.
He paused in the doorway, seeing Kurt awake and alert and calmed his heart rate down first before the paramedic decided he was the one who needed to go in. The coffee shop was only about 10 minutes by subway and it had been fortunate that he'd caught it before it left. Otherwise it would have taken a half hour. He would have just flagged down a cab but that might have taken longer. He'd run to the subway and then from the subway to the coffee shop, which should have taken another 10 minutes only took him 5.
He walked in, wishing he didn't look so disheveled and pulled a chair over to the bench where Kurt was sitting, leaning against the wall. "Why are you still here?" He demanded with a stern voice but not letting his concern and panic show through. The slight curve to Kurt's lips meant that Sebastian hadn't succeeded as well as he'd have liked. "Why aren't you at the hospital?"
"He refused to go. He woke up before we could put him on a board. If he passed out again, we'd have taken him despite his wishes." The paramedic didn't look too pleased by Kurt's refusal. "We've been monitoring him but with proper re-hydration and keeping cool he should be ok to go home."
"I still have 5 hours left on my shift." Kurt protested.
"You're done for the day." Kurt's boss said firmly and Sebastian hadn't realized another person was in the room with them. "I can't have the liability of you on my floor and passing out again."
"What caused it?" Sebastian asked, tenting his fingers, wanting to grab Kurt's hand but not wanting to outright out him at work, he didn't know what they knew here. Right now he seemed like a concerned friend.
"Heat exhaustion." The paramedic checked Kurt's BP once more and looked over Kurt and checked his temperature. "Should be ok to go home now." The paramedic looked over Kurt. "This is not just from today, but prolonged lack of proper hydration and body working at a higher temperature without relief even when relaxing. I know with the higher temps parts of the city has rolling black outs and along with it, the A/Cs stop working, has that been happening where you live? If so, we can recommend a generator or a few places you can go to keep cool that have their own power source so the A/Cs never have a gap in output."
"That's all right." Sebastian cut in. "He can sleep on my couch." Which is definitely where Kurt was going to sleep. Away from Sebastian's body heat and right under the A/C. Sebastian knew exactly where they were going to go. Kurt frowned but didn't argue, he'd been overruled by 3 of them.
Sebastian brought him to a hotel that he'd stayed in several times before. They'd taken a taxi there. Kurt was never out of the A/C for long. He'd pulled Kurt into a lukewarm shower to get the dried sweat off of both of them, hoping it would help Kurt from getting a fever then dried him off without once making anything more intimate, despite Kurt's teasing and suggestions.
He had clothes ordered up for both of them and Kurt had approved too much of his choices to be able to argue with the extravagant purchase. Then Sebastian dropped Kurt off onto the couch once they were both fully dressed and ordered him to rest. Kurt rolled his eyes and sat back up.
"I'm fine Bas." He sounded exhausted despite his annoyance at the coddling.
"You collapsed at work, that's not fine." Sebastian snapped back. "You are not staying in that apartment for a second longer this summer. If you're determined to go back there, at least let me plug the A/C in, I'll pay for the electricity for your last year there so you can have a warm apartment in the winter and a cold apartment in the summer. I'm not listening to your theories about temperature changes anymore. I'll be back to visit often and I expect it to be nearly 68 degrees all year long if not warmer in the winter." He was thinking about getting a central temperature control placed in there and having sole control over it from his phone. He would guarantee that the place was liveable if Kurt chose to keep living there. He couldn't force Kurt out of his apartment or make him live anywhere else. Kurt was an adult and he had no authority over Kurt, no matter how much he didn't like it.
"I'm not moving." Kurt wrapped his arms around his chest. "And you're not paying for my electricity."
"Too late. You made your choice, now I'll take over the bills."
"You're impossible." Kurt said moodily and Sebastian came in to kiss that look off his face. Kurt smiled into the kiss, and tried to pull Sebastian down and over him but Sebastian stilled his descent on the back of the couch, stubbornly refusing to put Kurt's health at further risk today. "Why not?"
"You're not to exert yourself after that faint. I'm not going to kick your body temperature up until I know you're properly hydrated and recovered."
Kurt was annoyed but settled in, knowing he wouldn't budge Sebastian when he was determined. It happened so rarely but when his stubborn side kicked in, it was impossible to move the line. Otherwise Sebastian was so easy going and nothing really fazed him. Kurt looked over at Sebastian who sat in the armchair, refusing to raise Kurt's temperatures even by accident, even if that meant just having a warm body next to him.
"You really care about me." It was a revelation to Kurt and he didn't realize he'd said it out loud.
"You doubted it?" Sebastian asked in confusion.
"Not... doubt... but other than the time you declared having feelings for me and that seemed kind of unwanted at the time, you haven't really said much about those feelings."
"Ah... I'm good at the flirty comments and the sarcastic wit. Feelings are not words that I'm used to uttering. Haven't my actions showed what I'm feeling?" Sebastian rubbed the back of his neck. He wasn't usually one to show much emotion either, nothing beyond what he wanted shown. He thought that he was doing better with Kurt, Kurt had read through his feigned calm earlier. He'd originally chosen medicine because he knew he could always present a calm exterior no matter the situation and that would be a bonus in that field. Otherwise his options were business or lawyer but as a lawyer he'd have to showcase some extreme emotions on occasion to rile someone into saying more or swaying a jury.
"Not as much as today's actions have but thinking about it, really thinking about it, I see just how much you've shown me how much you care and it's quite substantial, isn't it?" Kurt blushed. "I mean outside of sex, you're quite showy and vocal then."
Sebastian laughed harshly at himself. "You really are determined to break me, aren't you?"
"What does that mean?" Kurt's blue eyes tracked his every movement, understanding them all with new eyes.
"Can I get away with telling you not to worry about it and to try and take a nap or rest?"
"Nope."
"I've always followed through with my decisions and choices, damn the consequences. Until you. I apologized to Dave Karofsky for harsh words, to Blaine for nearly blinding him but my apologizes were all because I did you wrong. I was bound and determined when we were younger to ruin you and take the prize for myself. I saw how much you felt toward first Blaine and then Karofsky, who I hadn't known your history with and thought you were relative strangers. Knowing the history just makes it even more astounding. Your friends and Blaine, I could get that, but your reaction to Dave's suicide attempt was... wow." Sebastian shook his head. "It was the first time I ever went back on what I set out to do. I had never apologized to you back then for what I did or intended to do." Sebastian ran a shaky hand through his hair.
"Now, I've promised myself I would touch you until I'm rest assured your healthy again but sometimes when you give me a look or say something I just want to forget all that and make love to you on that very couch. I won't, this time I won't go back on my promise to myself because your health is more important than my desires. I've ended up doing little breaks to self promises when it's come to you throughout the years too because of something you did or said. If I don't have my resolve, then what do I have?"
"It's good to be stubborn and determined and have resolve." Kurt moved closer but was now conscious that he was trying to test Sebastian's boundaries and he didn't need to, he knew he could break through them. It was an interesting sort of knowledge. "It's also good to learn to compromise in somethings. You'd have missed out on a lot of things had you stuck to your guns in every case."
"I'd have missed out on you." Sebastian reached out and ran a hand through Kurt's dry hair. "Which brings me to the other way you're determined to break me. I have never had more than friendship feelings for anyone other than you." Kurt wondered about Sebastian's parents but didn't press, maybe he just meant outside of the family. "I tried, I tried really hard."
"You can't force feelings." Kurt reached up and took Sebastian's hand in his own and held it between both of his palms. "Which you really do have for me, it was never just sex for you, was it?"
"I wanted it to be but no, I told you that before we first got together." Kurt nodded, he'd known that, but he really had thought they'd sleep together once or twice and then Sebastian would be gone. The fact that he hung around for months without the possibility of sex was impressive and they'd bonded over a lot of things and through their conversations. Kurt's feelings had grown exponentially since the first time they had sex.
Sebastian had come back just to show his support for his show. It had touched Kurt but it had been buried amongst all his friends and family coming out to his show, so it had lost a little of it's meaning. Now he understood it for what it was. Sebastian hanging about for the last few months and adjusting his schedule so it could align with Kurt's with no effort on his end to adjust for Sebastian- floored Kurt.
He would try harder to compromise as well. It couldn't all be on Sebastian's side, especially if this relationship was going to work for the long term. He'd learned from his mistakes with Blaine, and more than that, unlike with Blaine, he wanted to make adjustments to fit Sebastian into his day more, to be there for Sebastian equally in return.
That realization made Kurt skip a breath and he looked to Sebastian with new eyes. "I have really strong feelings for you too."
"Not dislike anymore?"
"It wasn't dislike the last time I said it. The first time, definitely. The last time upgraded to just not liking you, it wasn't a purely negative feeling." Kurt laughed. "But I do like you now, a lot. And I really, really care about you."
"Kurt- I'm going to end up flattening you to the floor in a second." Sebastian warned. This might not have been the best time to have this conversation.
"I have the number to a really cute paramedic in the back pocket of my jeans in the bathroom if we need to call in help." Kurt said lippy but the number was written on a piece of paper in his pocket. The paramedic had been trying his hand at flirting with Kurt before Sebastian came in. Since Sebastian hadn't outright claimed him, the paramedic thought there was still a chance. He slipped it in with a whisper of 'call me' before Sebastian dragged Kurt from the room with the approval to go home.
"Oh yeah?" Sebastian growled and bolted to his feet and was pushing Kurt back into the cushions of the couch in one swift move. "Let's burn that."
"Ok." Kurt wrapped his arms happily around Sebastian's shoulders. "You know, you called it make love earlier. Is that the name that's attached to those strong feelings you don't want to talk about?"
"Yes." Sebastian covered Kurt's mouth with his own before he could say more.
Thankfully he'd managed to skip the fever that usually came with heat exhaustion due to intervention early on. His body felt feverish for an entirely different reason though as he and Sebastian's body heats kicked up into an inferno.
–
Fast forward and it was already the end of the summer and Kurt was loathe to let Sebastian go back to France. Yet he couldn't persuade him otherwise, he didn't even try. Sebastian could fulfill his dream in 4 years of schooling in France which would take him a minimum of 8 here. It would be longer if he specialized or went the surgical route. Sebastian wasn't sure himself, so he would go the 4 years, practice for awhile and determine if he wanted to go on. He was definitely smart enough and had agile fingers so Kurt was sure he'd succeed if that's what he decided.
Sebastian would never be able to practice here though, even if he went on for more education unless he found a special program here in the States that would hybrid his experience, education and their standards together.
"Brittany's father is Korean." Kurt explained when Sebastian had asked about the use of the date that Blaine had picked out for his wedding to Kurt. "He said it was an auspicious date and whoever married on this date would have a marriage of good fortune."
Sebastian hadn't seen Brittany or Santana all summer and hadn't really put it together which of Kurt's old school friends was Brittany. With Kurt saying that her father was Korean, he'd thought Brittany was Tina and had tried to make up for old animosities by pulling her into a hug and congratulating her profusely.
Kurt had doubled over in laughter so hard it had taken him a long time to calm down and wipe the tears from the corner of his eyes. By then Sebastian had obviously figured out he had gotten the wrong girl. Santana looked ticked off that he'd inadvertently insulted Brittany in a couple of ways and Brittany was adorably confused. She did seem a little more than confused, perhaps venturing into annoyed territory but with Brittany you could never be sure what she was really thinking unless she told you straight out.
They'd just grabbed Kurt for the rest of the preparation to the wedding. He was Santana's best man and his father was the ordain. Brittany had Sam as hers, something about her husband being at her side as she married her soon to be wife. Kurt didn't follow and he didn't ask. Sebastian definitely didn't make the mistake of asking after what he'd gone through earlier.
Brittany had asked if he wanted to get married too and he said not on that day, that day was just for her and Santana and he would be most proud to watch her marry the love of her life.
Kurt figured that Brittany and Santana had run into each other earlier this summer and decided to put all their problems behind them and give it a real go. The problems they still had would be sorted out together as a married couple, a couple that had to work it out and come up with a compromise.
Sebastian had sorted out that Brittany's adopted father really was Korean when he saw the man with his daughter. Her mother was definitely her mother and there was some weird announcement that Brittany's real father was some famous person. It didn't matter to Sebastian, in fact, it had totally passed him by as he spotted Dave and Blaine in the reception hall. Neither Kurt nor he had known they were coming and they looked so awkward together despite being a couple for over a year.
Blaine and Dave had both tried their luck at talking with Kurt alone but Kurt would just walk away from them and find someone else to talk to, find Sebastian or Sebastian would appear at his side as the other male attempted to talk with him. Kurt really was done with that drama and other than this wedding wouldn't even be so polite.
They would never be fully free of Blaine and Dave. They may be free of Dave if those two broke up but Blaine was friends with their friends. Their parents all ran in similar circles and even Burt had started to get pulled into that world as Senator.
Sebastian spun Kurt around on the dance floor during a faster paced song. They had a few even faster songs that weren't couples dancing together, even if grinding seemed to be a fairly popular thing with this group during some of the other songs.
Then a slow song came on. Sebastian was reflective of the wedding venue and all the work that Kurt had done to help them get this together so quickly. "We have a lot to work through ourselves." He mused. It was going to be Kurt's senior year and New York was in his blood. He was already getting taps on the shoulder to put his name on the audition list to some shows off-off Broadway and some of the bigger named producers were looking at Kurt closer as he neared the end of his school career. NYADA was good at getting his name put at the top of the list and all the achievements, even Adam's Apples glee club he'd been in temporarily had helped contribute to them seeking Kurt out rather than just the other way around.
Sebastian still had 2 years left of his medical education and he would have to work in Europe with his degree. He would prefer to stay in Paris if he could but he did like New York in the spring time, it would always hold a special place in his heart.
"That's true." Kurt nodded in agreement, somehow pretty blasé about it. His slid his hands around Sebastian's shoulders and stepped closer to him so they were chest to chest. "Except we have time and there aren't any commitments set in stone currently." His fingers entangled in Sebastian's hair at the base of his skull. "Besides, we're pretty creative people and I'm sure we can sort something out that suits us."
That was true and managed to reassure Sebastian immensely. His hands dipped into the back pockets of Kurt's jeans and cupped his amazing ass and pulled him even closer. "We finally get to have that dance without Santana interfering."
"I could do with a little more Bass." Kurt teased.
"That's funny, never heard you complain about that before. I can assure you it's enough. Meanwhile I have the perfect amount in my hands."

EAN: I'm just going to take a moment and praise myself. The title of this chapter is just too perfect! I was playing tongue in cheek with 3 things and then I realized it played well with a 4th with these two! Hehehehe!
It was also a pretty long one that after I wrote it, I thought maybe I should have made it another story? One that stands alone. Lol. I didn't but I was tempted.
