A Snowball's Chance In Hell
They called her Snowball. It began one winter day:
When Kikyo stepped from her home, Inuyasha pelted her with snow relentlessly.
Tears filling her eyes, she asked, "Why must you do this, Inuyasha?"
"Because I can," he answered simply.
"And why to me?"
"Because you're here."
"What is the reason for these actions, Inuyasha? It cannot be solely because of a whim."
"I heard how you feel, priestess," Inuyasha sneered.
"And how do I feel?"
"With your hands," he snickered, throwing more snow at her. "I think I'm going to call you Snowball from now on." With that, he jumped from the thatched roof to the ground. He walked past Kikyo without a second glance.
"Do you not love me anymore, Inuyasha?"
Inuyasha whirled around. "How can I love a cheap, two-bit, backstabbing, tawdry thing like you!" he shouted.
"Why do you say such untrue things?"
"Untrue?" he choked, giving a forced laugh. "I saw you with him, confessing your 'undying love' for him, like you did with me! How many others have you confessed this very same 'love' to? How many others are you playing like puppets, pulling the strings of their hearts?" Kikyo gave him a gentle, innocent smile. Inuyasha snorted, "Don't play stupid with me, though, you really don't have to act to play that part."
"You read too much into these things, Inuyasha," she said calmly.
"You kissed him! And kept kissing him! I left before I saw anything else, just like I'm leaving now before I hear any more of your lies."
Now, Inuyasha was staring at the beautiful priestess, an arrow in her heart, pinning her to the giant tree.
"This is what you had planned for me."
"I-Inu... yasha..." she whispered, reaching a hand out for him.
"Well, Snowball, how much of a chance in Hell do you think you have of hurting me again?" Inuyasha threw down the bow that let lose the arrow keeping Kikyo against the tree.
"You can't leave me here," Kikyo said as Inuyasha walked off.
"Someone will be along to let you go, in fifty years or so," he told her, without looking back.
