First I would like to add the disclaimer. I do not own Zelda in Anyway at all.

Secondly, I would like to thank all my reviewers, your reviews mean a lot! Some have asked for a Link and Malon pairing, some had asked for a Zelda pairing. I can say for now that the main contestants are Malon, Zelda, Nabooru and possibly Anju. But In the end it will most likely (unless something or someone changes my mind) end as either a L/Z or a L/M. Or neither.

Thirdly, I'm looking for two BETA-reader, or one really good BETA-reader. I need one to help me with the grammar/spelling/writing problems, and one to give me advice and criticism regarding the plot and character development. If you don't mind wasting your time helping me with one of these things, or if you think you can handly doing both without any problems at all, could you please reply to this thread and/or e-mail me at I e-mailed to people that I think could help me or want to help me with the story, but if they can't then I'll need other people of course. This chapter has not been BETA-read, I was originally going to let someone BETA-read it first then post it, but I didn't want to wait to long before I posted this story. So hopefully the next chapter will be BETA-read, and meanwhile I hope you guys can take whatever bad grammar/spelling/writing styleyou read in this chapter.

Fourthly, please leave a decent review thank you very much. I like constructive criticism so I can one day improve my skills and hopefully become a professional writer. I want to here both the positive and the negative, if it isn't too much trouble.

Edit: I just removed the old second chapter (which was not reread and thus FULL of mistakes) and replaced this one. I'd like to thank The Lady Gemini for BETA-reading it for me, as well as the others who were willing to help with BETA-reading or giving me constructive criticisms.

Also, If you guys don't mind, could you read my other short story and tell me what you think about it? you can find it on my profile, thanks. And just so you guys know, English isn't my first language so it might read a bit different, I dunno.

And for some reason I cannot provide spaces using the stars or anything, so I'm going tyo try with the letter "l" see if it works. And all the people that reviewed the second chapter, could you guys please review again:-)

Chapter 2: Always Knock Before You Enter.

Even though it was early in the morning, with the sun barely coming above the horizon, the market was already buzzing full of people. The Hyrulian citizens were hard workers, and loved the energy that was to be found within the market place. Link glanced around as he noticed some of the familiar faces standing in the growing crowd. There, to his left, stood the girl who had always chased the chicken, now grown into a very pretty young woman. She noticed him at the entrance and waved excitedly, showing him her lovely smile. If Link was any closer, he would have noticed her blushing. She had started to advance towards him to start some small conversation no doubt. But Link had already started moving on, passing the two arguing brothers, one in blue and one in red.

"They're always arguing," Link thought as he shook his head.

It seems an old lady saw him shake his head, and assumed he was having some inner problems.

"Is something the matter?" the old lady asked.

Link who was still deep in his thought was surprised at the sudden question. Turning his head to see a woman who had to be about 50 years of age talking to him, Link just shook his head again. He recognized the face as one of the many regulars of the town market; she was one of the nosy ones. She was always asking him about his social life, particularly about him and Zelda.

"No ma'am, nothing's wrong with me," Link said, giving his best smile, hoping that was enough to keep her away.

Unfortunately for Link, today was not his day. Instead of accepting the answer, saying goodbye and walking away like Link had hoped, she continued to ask questions.

"Are you sure my dear? Are you sure there's nothing wrong between you and the princess?"

"If there is something wrong between me and the princess? No ma'am, whatever gave you that idea?" Link asked surprised. How could shaking his head imply that he's having trouble with the princess?

"Oh you don't have to be embarrassed young man. I was once your age too, you know. Love is a fickle thing I'll tell you that. Why I remember…"

Link didn't have time to listen. He didn't come to the market to listen to random love stories of people he didn't he know. He had to go to the castle, and fast. He had promised Malon he would pass by the ranch later tonight. She was preparing some fried cuckoo with mash potatos, and then she wanted to talk to him about something. Now he really wanted to eat some of Malon's good cooking and he was also looking forward to spending some good quality time with her. But he figured that whatever he had to do at Zelda's would take a while, and that's why he wanted to get there early so he could get to the ranch in time.

"… and I was so happy with his gift that I just couldn't help but throw myself at him! So my advice to you my handsome hero, is to buy her a diamond necklace, some flowers and chocolates, and you'll have her doing things you'd never imagine she'd do," The old lady finished with a wink.

"Ok, thanks a bunch ma'am," Link said with a bright but fake smile on his face, while secretly wondering what the lady was talking about. "I guess I'll be off now to give her all those things you said!"

With that Link turned around and started moving even faster towards the castle before the lady could say anything more. He was a bit freaked about the way the lady ended that sentence with a wink. He had no idea what she was implying, but it gave him a very weird feeling. Link has always relied on his gut instincts, so why stop now?

Link hurriedly made his way out of the market into the more quiet parts of Hyrule, along the path towards the castle. Here it was more calm and serene, and he often enjoyed these walks for its raw simplicity. It was nice and charming, and he could recollect his thoughts; something that had become quite the pass time for him.

"If only life was always like this, just a quiet walk towards a grand castle. No bumps, no monsters, no lava pits or nothing of that sort," Link muttered aloud, taking in the breathtaking beauty of his surroundings.

He had long stepped out of the busy town and was now on the path to great castle of hyrule. Birds sang sweet melodies of rapture, their wonderful voices blown away into the wind and being spread all across the land. The grass seemed to sparkle green as furry animals scurried across the luscious landscape. Daring a glance at the sun's position, he realized that time was moving a lot faster than he had expected. It was almost noon already.

Glancing up ahead, he could see the gate on the horizon with that one guard he never really liked. The same guard who would always ask for identification even though the guard knew who he was. And every time he said he didn't have identification, he was forced to cough up ten rupees. But he passed by about three times a week! You would think he'd recognize the face by now.

Not in the mood to deal with the guard again, Link glanced slightly to his left. There were the vines that grew on the side of the small hill that allowed him to secretly enter the Hyrulian castle. Suddenly Link felt very mischievous.

"It's been a long time since I've sneaked into the castle," he said softly under his breath, "wonder if they fixed the weak security?"

Deciding the best way to find out was for him to test it out. After all, if Link couldn't get pass, who could?

"Princess, you're half an hour overdue!" Zelda heard her caretaker scream behind her.

I absolutely loved taking baths, soaking in warm bubbly waters just felt so well. I wanted to stay another half hour.

"Oh come on Impa, he's always late anyways!"

"Its not polite to keep your guest waiting Princess, what am I to tell him when he arrives? That you're busy playing with bubbles?" Impa scolded from outside the door, "Or perhaps I will just tell him you want to be extra fresh, just for him?"

"You wouldn't dare!"

"I would, and you know it."

"Fine, I'm coming out. Just give me five minutes to finish off," I grumbled. Sometimes I hated how Impa knows me so well. After the last incident, I didn't want Link to think I was desperate or something.

Deciding to get up and dry myself my mind wonders back to that night. I was so embarrassed that I cried myself to sleep. I didn't know how it happened but my love for Link has existed for quite some time now. It had all happened around my 14th birthday. I just woke up one morning and couldn't get him out of my head.

The day I turned fourteen years old, my father held a huge celebration for me. Now, by this time Link was already famous for his various heroics in Hyrule and the surrounding nations, but he still wasn't accepted as the hero of time. And because he was just seen as an extraordinary boy who had a taste for adventure, he had not received the approval of the royal court, so he could not be invited to my party.

Bored out of my mind from the usual fancy ballroom gatherings with bad dancing princes, spoiled rich nobles and boring conversations I just had to find away to escape the boredom. I had excused herself from the party to go to my favorite place on the castle ground. I found myself outside in the castle courtyard. My lovely flowers, nurtured by my own hands, were shining brightly in the light of the full moon, and the stars sparkled like diamonds into the sky. With the music loud enough to be heard from where I stood, it was the perfect spot to be swept of my feet like any girl my age would dream of.

But alas it was not to be, or so I thought. The princes of fairy tales were not the same princes of reality. In fairy tales the princes would be strong, brave, charming and romantic. The princes in real life were spoiled, arrogant and childish. I was so absorbed in my daydream that I barely noticed when she heard soft drop on the floor.

I turned towards the noise and let out a small scream, but stopped when I noticed it was none other than Link. My heart was still pounding in my chest. I remember exactly how the conversation went.

"Link, what are you doing here? You almost gave me a heart attack!"

"I'm sorry Zelda, I didn't mean to scare you," he said sheepishly.

Taking note of his nervousness, I couldn't help but find it cute. So cute that I was willing to overlook the fact that he called me by my first name instead of Princess. But I still couldn't forget that he had sneaked into the castle and interrupted my alone time. And not to mention the fact that it is my birthday!

"But you're not even supposed to be here, you know how father feels about you! You can't just sneak in here whenever you feel like it," I hissed just loud enough for Link to hear.

"Hey, I'm sorry okay? I just wanted to come by and give you your present," Link replied.

"I don't ca—wait, you got me a present? And you went through all this trouble just for me?"

"Well it wasn't too much trouble. Well, okay, it was a lot of trouble, but I don't mind," He said with a sly smile, "I hope you like it."

He handed me a beautiful silver necklace, and at the end were a golden carving of the moon. Now, being a princess I was used to having lots of jewelry. And I had more beautiful necklaces. The quality was good, not great and it certainly was an expensive necklace for a fourteen-year-old boy.

"Wow, its beautiful," I said, not fully lying, "Where did you buy it?"

"Oh I didn't buy it. I was in Termina two weeks back and I had to take back some stuff from a famous thief there called Sakon. So I was in his lair—I've been there before—to reclaim all the stolen position and put a stop to his actions once and for all," Link said.

Realizing this was going to be an interesting story, I sat down to listen to his tale. I often wish I was someone else, living a life full of excitement and adventure. Being born a Princess, I had to admit I was constantly pampered and therefore life was considerably dull in my opinion. So the more I listened to him talk, the more I got absorbed in his words.

"…So as I get deeper into his cavern, I feel something is amiss. That one time, I decide to ignore my instinct and I continue to walk. Suddenly a trap door opens up beneath me, and I find myself falling into a pit. As I stand up I notice I'm surrounded by dead carcass and bones, all of them chewed up!"

"Oh my goddess, are you serious? What happened?"

By this time I was mortified. I could tell he enjoyed telling these stories, but there was something else behind it. I didn't know how, but I knew he was hiding some kind of pain. I want to ask him about it, but first I'll let him finish the story.

"Well, suddenly, I hear a loud growling behind me, so I turn around as fast as I can. There stands a huge Wolfos. It lunges at me, but with lightning-fast reflexes I didn't know I had, I somersaulted over him and pulled out my blade. It turned around and lunges at me again. I try to block it, but he ends up scratching my sword arm," he says, lifting up his sleeves and showing me his now healing wounds.

Indeed there were some nasty scars on his upper arm and it looked awfully painful. I reached over to touch it and I felt him wince.

"I'm sorry," I said, but he waved it off.

"Don't worry about it, it will heal soon enough," he said as if he's dealt with Wolfos induced wounds before. He probably has now that I think about it.

"But like I was saying, it's scratching my sword arm, and tackles me to the ground. But using my momentum I roll back, and use my feet to throw him over my head. He slams into the wall behind me and by that time, I'm already on my feet. I rush towards him and he swipes his claws at my head, but I duck and jab my sword through his torso. He howls and I pull out my gilded sword and cut his head clean off!"

I just stare at him in wonder and disgust. I had no idea why he was telling me all these gruesome details. I mean, this isn't something you tell a Princess on her birthday, is it? Nevertheless I had enjoyed the story more than I'd care to admit, even if it may give her nightmares.

"You went through all that just to retrieve some stolen objects? Isn't that a bit too extreme? I mean it had nothing to do with you, did it?"

"Well I didn't go just for the treasures. You see the thief Sakon steals a lot from the residents of Clock Town. Apparently he had stolen something from a good friend of mine called Kafei. He and a bunch of other men decided they had enough and went to hunt down Sakon themselves."

"Oh, but then why did you have to go if the other men already went?"

"Well when I got to Clock Town, Anju—Kafei's wife—and the mayor told me what happened, and they told me that they hadn't returned yet. And it seemed they had been gone for a long time, so they asked me to find them."

As Link finished his sentence, I noticed something strange with him. His voice had faltered and he wasn't giving off the vibrant energy as he was before. It was obvious that something was wrong, but I couldn't figure out what it was. I didn't didn't want to intrude, but on the other hand its obvious something was troubling him.

"Is…there something wrong Link?"

"Well… remember those piles of corpses I landed into?"

"Yeah…" I said with precaution, already sensing where this was leading.

"Well after I had killed the Wolfos, I went to inspect the bodies. Now it was hard to tell them apart because they were badly eaten up and mutilated, but I recognized Kafei's clothes and his purple hair. He was dead and so were the rest of the men who went to find Sakon. Apparently they had fallen into the same trap I did and were torn to shreds by the Wolfos. In Kafei's hand, I noticed he was holding a necklace. I took the necklace out of his hand and escaped from the lair."

My hand went up to my mouth as I was shocked. Never in a million years could I imagine going through something like that, and I can only imagine the pain Link must have gone through. As I looked at his stance I noticed he had paled somewhat and his eyes were looking down. It seemed… as if he blamed himself.

"I… I don't know what to say," was all I managed to bring out and I wanted to slap myself for sounding so stupid.

But before I could say something more comforting, he was already talking again.

"I took the necklace back to Clock Town and went to deliver the news. Every one was devastated over the news. Anju was the one most affected by the events. She wouldn't eat, sleep or talk to anybody. Finally I managed to talk to her. I told her about the necklace and how it was in Kafei's hand—I made sure not to mention the state of his corpse—and she told me the story behind it. It seems that it was her anniversary gift. They had both made each other gifts, he got the moon and she got the sun. Sakon had managed to steal that necklace, the one you're holding in your hand right now."

By this point in time I felt like crying. But I knew I had to be strong. Here was Link who had experienced it all telling me all this, and I'm thinking about my pain. No, I had to be of comfort to him. I scooted closer to him and grabbed his hand.

"But she did not want it anymore; it was bringing up too many memories. So she gave me both of the necklace, her moon-necklace and his sun-necklace and told me to give each of them to someone special. I remembered that your birthday was coming up and you're a special person to me, so… happy birthday."

I was speechless. On one hand, I wanted to hug him and snuggle up to him and tell him it was all going to be okay and that it wasn't his fault. On the other hand, I still wanted to hug him, but this time to thank him for making me feel so special, something that no one has ever been able to do before. For him to go through all that, then sneak into the castle just to bring me a gift…

"Link, this is so… I don't know what to say."

Again I wanted to slap myself. Why can't I ever find the right things to say when I need to? I always have something to say, why doesn't anything come to mind now? But again Link manages to save the moment.

"Let's not talk about it anymore. Tonight is supposed to be a happy night. Let's… dance!"

Before I could register what he said, he took my hand twirled me around. Catching me before I went off balance, he twirled me again before continuing with the staff. Now while Link did move very gracefully, and it was nice there was still one thing he was doing wrong. It was a slow tune, not a fast one and Link was moving of rhythm.

So I stopped him dead in his tracks I told him to stand still. Now I imagine being a mercenary of sorts and traveling across the lands dealing with various monsters and criminals haven't really given him many opportunities to take a dance class, but I was willing to teach him the basics.

"Ok, now grab me by the waist. Lower… Lower… Eek! No higher! Yes, there's perfect. Now listen to the beat. Its 1, 2, 3 and step. 1, 2, 3 and step. Yes that's it! Wow, you're a fast learner Link."

And indeed he was, within ten minutes we were lost in the music, together we were moving to a joint rhythm. I love to dance, and to me being able to dance like this with another man is almost intimate. The way we moved…it was as if we were one, and at that moment I was lost in a world where only the two of us existed. We continued like this for almost half an hour, and I felt like I was floating in the sky. If it wasn't for Link's keen senses, we would have certainly been caught.

But Link had pulled me behind a statue in the corner just as I heard the door open. I immediately stopped breathing, hoping I would not get caught. If someone found me with handsome boy like this all huddled up in a corner I would never hear the end of it. Not to mention what they might do to Link. It didn't even occur to me that I had referred to Link as handsome. But than again, it is obvious that he has been blessed with good looks.

"Princess, where are you?"

It was Impa. She probably became worried when I did not return to my own party after more than an hour. It would be best if I showed myself before she alerted the castle guards or something. But what do I do about Link? Looking around I saw we were right under my room. And there, right next to us, were the vines that I used to escape from my room every once in a while. I nudged a look in the soldier and pointed at the window.

"That's my room. You can use those vines to climb up, although my window is locked. But if you wait for me to go see what Impa wants, I'll find a way to get to my room and open the windows for you."

"Ok, you better go fast though, I'll be waiting for you," Link replied.

"Will you be alright by yourself though?" I asked concerned.

"Oh don't worry about me; I got this," he said, "pulling out a strange looking mask.

"What is that?"

"The stone mask, I'll tell you about it later. But Impa is getting impatient.

And indeed she was. She was screaming even louder now it looked like she was ready to go back inside and alert the guards. Then they will order a lockdown of the premises and search every inch of the castle grounds. It's best if I head out now and make up an excuse so I can go to my room.

"I'm right here Impa," I said getting out of the shadows and walking over to where Impa is standing.

She turns aloud and looks at me.

"Where have you been, young Princess?" she asked with a very accusing tone.

"Oh Impa, I don't feel so good so I went outside to get some fresh air. But I think I'm going to my head up to my room to get some rest," I said, feigning sickness.

"Oh my Princess, are you alright? Do you want me to call the medic?"

"Oh no Impa, that's alright I just need some rest. Could you please inform my guests that I'm not feeling so well?"

"Yes your highness, follow me."

So I follow her into the castle, entering the ballroom where all my guests are entertaining themselves. It seems as if most of them didn't really mind my absence, and were just chatting away while eating my food. Some did however notice my return and immediately walked up to me to ask me to dance, or just talk to me. Thank goodness my sweet caretaker and bodyguard Impa knew that I was in no mood to socialize, and told them to back off. Of course she was very polite when she did it. So we passed by my father and Impa explained to him my situation and my father merely nodded. Then she led me to my room where I immediately went to the bed and lay down.

"Thank you very much Impa, but that will be all."

"Okay Princess, if you need me I will be downstairs," and with that she turned around and went back to the ballroom.

As soon as I couldn't here her footsteps I rushed to my window and opened them up. I looked down but I couldn't see Link anywhere. I glanced further away but he was nowhere in sight. A deep sadness filled me as I started to think he left me when I felt something bump up to me. I looked around but I saw nothing, when out of nowhere Link appeared. I let out a loud scream before falling over on my bed. I looked up to see him chuckling and I wanted to punch him.

"It's not funny! You really gave me a scare," I stood up and dust myself off, "How did you do that anyway?"

Still chuckling a bit, he pulled out the stone mask he was talking about.

"Now you see me, now you don't," he said and then he put on the mask and disappeared.

I looked around wondering where he was. "Link?" I called out for him.

Suddenly I felt something tickling me all over and I was laughing real hard. He was tickling me on my bed and I was trying to fight him off while laughing. His hands accidentally touched some of my more sensitive spots and I felt myself getting warm. Suddenly the fancy clothes I was wearing was seemed to be holding me back. I wanted him to rip them off; I wanted him to stop tickling me on my stomach and move his hands lower. I wanted his clothes off, I…

Suddenly it stopped. I looked around and I couldn't see him anywhere. I was wondering what he was up to until I heard my door open. I turned around and saw Impa.

"Is everything alright?" she asked, looking at me wearily.

"Uhm… yes of course, just had a nightmare that is all," I managed to pant out. I was still very heated and for some reason frustrated that she had barged in like this.

"Are you sure Princess?" She asked again, but she wasn't looking at me, she was looking at something behind me.

I turned around as casually as I could, but I couldn't see Link, so he must still be wearing that magical mask of his. So Impa couldn't see him, could she?

"Its hard to believe you fell asleep in under ten minutes, and had a nightmare so fast my Princess," she continued.

"Well what can I say? I guess I'm really tired," I said lamely.

"Uh huh, I bet. Promise me you won't do anything stupid," she said, still looking at something behind me, "You are too young to fully understand the consequences of your actions, or to take responsibilities for it. Remember that Princess." Then all of a sudden she turned around and left.

I turned around just in time to see Link take of the mask. He walked over to me and sat down on my bed.

"Hey Zelda, I think it is best if I take my leave. I think she could see me. She was looking me straight in the eyes. She's a Sheikah right? They are very gifted with sight,"

I merely nodded, upset that we don't get to finish what we started. But what had we started? The way I felt, what did it mean? I had to be sure myself, but for now it is best if we leave it here. I half-expected he would lean down and give me my first kiss, but he merely waved goodbye at me. I was disappointed that he couldn't stay any longer, and that this fabulous night was to end so anti-climatic (literally). But than again, great things are worth waiting for. Before he left, I waved him goodbye.

"Thank you for the wonderful night Link, this has been the best birthday I've ever had," I said with a warm smile. I meant it.

"Just wait till next year," he replied with a wide grin on his face. Then he put on the stone mask, jumped out of the window and that was the last I saw of him that night. But I would see him quite often for the following years.

I was so absorbed in my reminiscing of the past that I completely forgot I was supposed to get out of the bath! I had invited Link because I needed to talk to him about an upcoming event and I wanted to look good for him. I was a bit scared though, because while back I had made a move on him but he had completely rejected me. My maids had told me that the best way to a man's heart is through his stomach. And then they told me that the best way to a man's stomach is through his private area.

Basically they told me it would be wise to seduce him using my beauty and passion, if you'll allow me to brag, and from there on, it's chicken feet. But of course, Link being the valiant handsome hero, he has probably been with loads of women before he doubted in my ability to please him. It was so embarrassing. It's not my fault I'm inexperienced, he didn't have to be like that.

Fuming, I decided I should step out of the bathroom and change into my clothes.

llllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

llllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

llllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

Link was unimpressed. He had easily managed to pass the guards and was now in the courtyard. He looked up and saw her window open. Deciding it was worth a shot, he went to the vines that he always used to climb up to her room. It was an easy climb and he had no real problem at all. As he got to the top, he lift up his head to see if anyone was there. Not seeing anyone, he entered the room. Just as he had his two feet on the ground, the side door open and there Zelda stepped out of the bathroom, a towel wrapped around her

When Zelda saw Link standing in her room, she lifted her hands to her mouth and screamed, dropping the towel. Link felt his head become light, and a strange sensation under his tunic, specifically at his private area.

"I hate it when that happens," he thought to himself, before turning his attention to the princess. "Uhm... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!"
