Caroline opened her mouth, but Elijah didn't wait for an answer. He entered the room, closing the door behind him, and Caroline had no choice but to sit alone in the hall, in a mortifying silence, in the house that looked more like a haunted mansion during the day and to wait, humming the strange a song Elena keeps listening. The minutes passed, but there was no sound inside, and Elijah had not called her yet, were they all right? When the clock announced that ten minutes had elapsed since Elijah had entered, Caroline began to open the door slowly, worried about the time that had passed without any sign.
Elijah was sitting on one side of the room, his head propped against a white door, probably from the bathroom, and whispering through it, barely intelligible. He looked worried. Niklaus could not be seen in the room. Elijah turned when he heard her enter.
"Miss Forbes."
"Mr. .mikaelso~ Elijah, I'm sorry I broke in like that, but you didn't come out and..."
"My apologies, miss Forbes, Niklaus doesn't feel like talking to new people today."
The bathroom door opened, and Caroline's gaze immediately stopped on the man about her age, who could not be other than Niklaus. She paused for a second and quickly examined the blond man, still in his pajamas, a little too skinny for his own good, with tired eyes, and, those blue eyes... Niklaus was leaning against the wall, and Elijah helped him move so that he could lean on him, after Niklaus said softly, "I vomited.". He sank into the arms of Elijah, seeming to give up all his weight on his brother, leaving Elijah to fight, because he couldn't anymore. However, something in his eyes...seemed extremely familiar to Caroline...
"So this is the famous nurse Caroline Forbes I've heard so much about." Niklaus said, his voice hoarse, but a grin on his face.
"Niklaus, I'm glad to meet you." said Caroline, with the best Mystic Falls smile she could have, despite the excitement she had to meet her new patient for the first time, as always.
"Please, call me Klaus, Niklaus makes me feel more dead than I already am."
"Brother..." Elijah rebuked Klaus.
"Elijah~" Niklaus didn't finish his sentence because he suddenly started coughing violently. Caroline hurriedly patted him on the back, and the cough subsided. His eyes were red.
"S-sorry...sorry..."
"No, no need to apologize, brother. It's alright, you're alright."
Niklaus let Elijah lead him to the bed and sat down.
"Klaus, do you want a glass of water?" Caroline asked, watching the water on the nightstand. Klaus nodded.
"I want to sleep."
"Caroline, I think it would be best if you and my baby brother will continue this tomorrow, so you will have enough time to introduce yourself properly. Elijah said.
"Elijah, I'm not an baby!" Klaus yelled, and Caroline wanted to laugh.
Once out of the room, Elijah said:
"I'm sorry for the cold treatment of my little brother, he's tired."
"Don't worry, I never refuse a challenge, and I can't wait to get to know him better."
A challenge. And Caroline never refuse a challenge.
