Summary: When nurse Caroline Forbes is hired by Elijah Mikaelson to take care of his younger brother with a terminal illness, Klaus, she didn't expect to fall in love with the charismatic blonde.

A: I don't own TVDU or any character. Sorry, my english isn't good.

Niklaus had spent the whole night throwing up in the bathroom and Elijah had spent the whole night holding his hair. Rebekah had to leave early for college, and she dragged Kol out of bed at the same time as her, at Elijah's request, to make sure he made it to college in time, but she promised them she'd stop at the pharmacy on the way home after class and take more medicines for Klaus. Niklaus had been feeling better after Marcel stopped the side effect medication, he wasn't as sick as often, but it seems all recomfortant things come to an end.

"Shhh, go to bed now, you're fine." Elijah whispered softly to Klaus, stroking Klaus's head now in his lap.

Shortly after Niklaus finally fell asleep, the door opened and Caroline entered.

"Oh, sorry, the cook let me in."

"It's alright Miss Forbes, I have to get to work...Niklaus has been throwing up all night, so give him the meds, then I'd appreciate it if you could get him to settle down to sleep again..." Elijah said, taking another minute to look at his brother. "It was a hard night, he needs rest." the brunette added, thinking of how Niklaus's eyes started to water as he begged him to make it stop because he couldn't take it anymore.

"You are taking good care of him, Elijah, you don't have to worry about it."

"I'll take care of Niklaus even when we will be both retired and old-aged, if…maybe in another universe."

"As long as we don't lose hope, anything is possible. Your brother is strong, and has so much potential..."

"I know..." Elijah smiled with sad eyes. "When he became ill he was a student at a prestigious art college, The Labonair Academy, and was planning to open his own art gallery next fall. Then one day he passed out in his dorm room, he was taken to the hospital and soon he didn't have enough strength to even walk without help... His former colleagues still come to visit, they also left a bunch of presents at the hospital the first time Klaus was admitted, although Kol ate most of them, Niklaus couldn't eat without throwing up even a slice of bread with butter back then. However, I have to get to work, have a nice day miss forbes" Elijah said before rushing out the door.

Caroline placed her bag and gear on the chair, then walked over to Klaus, stroking his hair with one hand.

"Klaus, you need to wake up."

"N-no...no, please..."

Klaus was shivering under the covers, but his eyes were still closed, he was talking in his sleep.

"Please, please, father..."

"Klaus. Klaus!"

Klaus' eyes flew open and he looked around fearfully before realizing where he was.

"Are you ok? You had a nightmare."

"I'm fine...I just..."

"What did you dream? I heard you say father..."

"I dreamed something from the past, something that should only be imagined."

"I understand." Caroline said, thinking of the scars on Klaus' back. "Why don't we check your vitals?"

Caroline took his temperature in his mouth, she noted it, checked his pulse and breathing rate, then sent him to the bathroom before settling him into position to check his blood pressure. Then Caroline opened the bedside cabinet and took out the jars of pills, handing them to Klaus and then helping him drink a glass of water.

"Why is everyone holding the glass of water for me while I'm drinking? I can use my hands."

"You're dying, Klaus, I really think you deserve to be a little spoiled. Now be a good Klaus and stop fighting with me."

Katherine was walking from the car to the courthouse when she spotted him, dressed in his signature suit as always.

"Look what the black cat brought, Elijah Mikaelson in person."

"Katerina, I'm glad to see you too."

Katherine was wearing black heels, as always, and a gray coat that made her look dangerous, but in the same time very powerful. Elijah had bumped into the young judge, fresh out of Harvard Law School a summer ago, and honestly, the hours he had spent with Katerina had been some of the most enjoyable of his life.

"How are your sisters, Katerina?"

"They're making me loose my mind, Elena finally decided to marry Damon Salvatore and not Stefan, Tatia is on the other side of the world acting like she's invisible, and Amara is still crying about our parents, despite the fact that the only one they've ever been parents to is Elena. So, basically everything is pretty normal."

"I understand, I hope everything will get better soon."

"You look tired, Elijah." Katherine said.

And it was true, the dark circles had found their place under Elijah's eyes again.

"Oh, my brother wasn't feeling well last night."

"You do realize I probably know Nik better than Finn, right? How does he feel?"

Elijah paused, then answered:

"He's been feeling a little better than normal lately, except for the last night... He's holding on, Katerina, he's trying to hold on."

"And you, Elijah? Are you holding on?"

"I'm doing my best."

"And...your love life, how is it? Seeing someone?" Katherine asked with a cold expression on her face.

"Yes...actually...A new colleague, she invited me to a date and...I accepted."

He was not going to tell Katerina Antoinette's name, because he wanted his new partner to stay alive.

"Elijah" Katherine smiled manipulative, but also in a sweet way, a smile reserved only for Elijah. "See you in court."

"Kol! Kol, move your ass here!"

"Calm down, little sister, where is it burning?"

"I promised Elijah we'd stop and get Nik some medicine on the way home." Rebekah said, grabbing her bag better and walking out of the faculty building with Kol. "He'll get better after he takes them."

"No, he won't."

"Kol..."

"He's dying, Rebekah!" Kol suddenly screamed, traces of tears appearing at the corners of his eyes. "Continually taking drugs that make him feel worse and worse isn't helping him at all! All they do is remind him of what's inevitably to come, all that pills do is ruin his last months, Rebekah!" Kol had been crying up until this moment, but he hadn't even realized it. All he could think about was the fact that Nik, his older brother, would be gone forever in a few months, and nothing and no one could ever change that. They will never gonna see him again on the earth, they will never get to heard his laugh again, or see his smile, he will be gone, dead, forever. "He's dying, but worse, he's suffering."

The day had ended and the full moon was already high in the sky when two men dressed in all black clothes met at the street corner.

"Do you have what I asked you for?" Mikael asked irritably, as the other man took an envelope out of his bag and handed it to him.

"You have their address here."
