"Momma," Harry complained horrified as Minerva held him close. It was September the 1st and he and Hermione would join Fiona at Hogwarts this year. "You will see me later this evening," he tried to reason.
Sirius and Remus merely laughed at him. He glared at them when he realized he wouldn't get any help from them. He looked at his Daddy in a silent plea. Dougal chuckled at him before detangling the boy from Minerva's grasp. Harry quickly darted away; however, Fiona missed that and soon became wrapped up in her mother's embrace. She glared at her brother who did look apologetic.
"Where's my hug Aunt Min," Hermione distracted the older witch. Fiona mouthed a quick thank you to her friend as she moved away from her mother's grasp. "Don't worry about us," the young girl reassured her Aunt. "We shall look out for each other and will see you at the sorting."
Minerva smiled at the three children and nodded her head. "Go on and board the train," she said emotionally. "I shall see you shortly."
Minerva smiled gently as Hermione sat on the stool and waited patiently to be sorted. "Gryffindor," the hat called out after a debate of some sort.
Minerva smiled at the girl but chuckled as the girl hugged her excitedly. "I love you Aunt Min," she whispered then bounded off to Gryffindor House table.
Minerva resumed reading the list one by one and watched them be sorted. "Harry Potter," she said and inwardly sighed as the Great Hall went deathly quiet.
Harry smiled at her and walked confidently to the stool. He waited as the sorting hat was placed on his head. The minutes ticked by slowly as the sorting hat took it's time. Finally, it bellowed Gryffindor much to Minerva's delight. She grabbed the hat from his head and chuckled as he hugged her tightly. "I love you Momma," he yelled over his shoulder as he walked towards Gryffindor House table.
"Momma's boy," snarled an older Slythrein boy.
A smack sounded throughout the Great Hall followed by an cry of pain. Minerva snapped her head around to reprimand the culprit but was thoroughly suprised to find Fiona the guilty culprit. "That's my brother you toll," she screamed angrily. "You best remember that and keep your mouth shut. Of course, he's a Momma's boy. We have the best Momma ever!"
Harry chuckled loudly at his sister before strolling to the Slythrein House table, kissing her hand and bowing to her politely. "Thank you for the support my dearest FiFi," he teased.
Fiona laughed, hugged her brother then shoved him back towards Gryffindor table. "You are welcome Harry," she answered with amusement.
"Miss McGregor," Albus drew everyone's attention. "Striking your peers is prohibited. I feel it only fair to give you a detention with myself tomorrow evening after classes."
Fiona nodded her head in acceptance. "It was well worth it Headmaster," she said then grinned. "Thank you for not issuing that detention with my Momma. She doesn't look too happy with me right now."
And Minerva didn't. She was glaring at her daughter. Fiona swallowed nervously as she met her mother's unyielding gaze. Albus Dumbledore chuckled at the girl's audacity. "I guess you are lucky the Headmaster trumps Deputy Headmistress at the moment," he offered the girl with a wink. "Hopefully your Momma calms down before your the holiday break."
Minerva glared at him before turning back to the list and reading the next name on her list.
Minerva entered the home to find Remus, Sirius and the Grangers had joined Dougal. She pulled the memory of the sorting from her head and placed it in the viewing crystal. She curled up against Dougal as Sirius started the memory.
Remus and Sirius fell off the couch laughing hysterically at the sorting. Fiona's response had been amazing. "We should make her a mauder," Sirius said.
"She thanked Albus for not issuing the detention with Minerva," Remus said in awe of the slip of a girl.
"I'm glad you find it so amusing," Minerva snapped at the two. "Fiona struck another child."
The two men immediately stopped laughing before looking at their mentor. Sirius decided to defuse the situation. "Did you happen to notice which child she struck?" he asked her. Minerva opened her mouth to argue it didn't matter but Sirius held up his hand to silent her. "The child is an Avery and her family magic demands she holds that particular family responsible for what she believes is slights against her. Last year, Lord Avery slighted her in front of the entire Great Hall. This year, his great nephew did the same to her brother. Her magic will always force her hand when she is on Hogwarts lands."
Minerva frowned at that. "I won't be able to punish her for this, will I?"
"Afraid not," replied Sirius. "At least you know she will be fiercely loyal to her family and will not stand by when others are wronged."
Minerva sighed. It seemed raising Founder's heirs was a bit different than she had anticipated. She made a mental note to read through the founders' journals once again. Who knew what would come up next!
