Chapter 5: The Shadow Monarch
I'm excited for this chapter because this is where Issei gets the power we all know and love!
I know I already said it from last chapter but I'm going to say it again. There will be twist and turns I will make that you probably won't expect. That is because I simply can't just have every scenario play out exactly like it did in DXD or Solo Leveling. Things are going to have to change to adjust to the story. Characters and ideas might be different/substituted/added to form my ideas, but know this will be almost entirely on the Solo Leveling side of things.
This chapter and the next are going to be perfect examples of what I mean by change and I hope you guys enjoy it. Also because I'm new at this kind of stuff, I suck at fighting scenes so bare with me lol.
Expect the next chapter to be out in about a week, maybe even sooner depending on how I feel.

Issei sat on the couch watching some Drag-So Ball with Kuzuryu. It's been two months since school started and a lot has changed since then. It took some getting used to living with another person, well dragon. Kuzuryu was surprisingly a good roommate to have as she was very independent. It took a while for Issei to convince her to eat with her arguing that dragons don't need to eat human food, but after some convincing he finally got her to eat. When he told Entropy to make her another room she had a panic attack that lasted for a couple of hours. While trying to calm her down he learned that the status effect will bring fear into the victim and it last as long as Entropy wanted. After some convincing Entropy lifted the effect off her and life went on. They went cloths shopping at a mall because her attire was far from ideal and that day will forever be one of the most sexually frustrating moments Issei will ever have.
While he enjoyed going out, especially to the park he always had a feeling he was being watched, but he didn't know who, he swore that he'd seen red eyes beam at him from the shadows just too disappear in an instant. Entropy did warn him that he did sense multiple supernaturals in the area, but he couldn't pinpoint who or what was watching him. Now he only made short trips and ordered Kuzuryu to not leave the barrier Entropy set up around his block, he was met with no resistance as Kuzuryu sat around and watched TV all day while eating snacks.
"Today is the day." Issei said out loud. Standing up he stretched and got all the aches out of his body. "Where are you going?" Kuzuryu asked, eyes still glued to the screen.
"Out." He responded. Opening the door and feeling the cool evening breeze hit him, he turned back and looked at the freeloading dragon god, "You know the rules right?"
The dragon responded with a nod, "No leaving the premises unless told."
"And no eating all the food!" Issei yelled and a whimper was all he got back. Letting out a breath he closed the door. "Alright Entropy send me." And in a flash of light he was gone.
Opening his eyes he found himself in front of an abandoned castle. Knowing he was somewhere in Europe he walked up to the entrance. A giant door with two handles and lock faced him. Figuring the obvious he summoned the key and unlocked it. Opening the door a huge gush of wind almost blew him off his feet. Steadying himself he used his arms to protect his face. After the gust subsided he bought his arms down and opened his eyes. Looking into the castle he saw a long dark hallway, the shadows dancing in the background. Focusing back to directly in front of him he saw the gate, but this one was noticeably different. All the other gates he had opened had white light and sparks but this one had green light with blue and purple sparks shooting out of it.
"This is different... is it because this gate required a key?" Setting aside his thoughts he called both his sacred gears and ripped it open. Stepping in he found himself in what looked like the hallway he seen before entering the dungeon. Torches were lit and the walls looked like they were in excellent condition, "It's like its been restored." He walked to the end of the hallway and found himself at another door. Opening that door and walking in the door closed behind him.
"Looks like this is a one way trip." He felt a presence and from the dark a knight appeared.
"Observe"

"Damn this knight is tuff and I can't use an explosion because I'm in an enclosed space. Looks like I have test out my new blade." Summoning his blood blade he used its special move and did a triple strike. He did have to put a lot of strength behind his attack as the armor almost deflected it. With his special ability he was able to one-shot it, but he did feel his fatigue go up significantly. He turned around and saw a large group of knights. "This isn't going to be a cakewalk."

Issei charged into the group and a brawl ensued.

"This is tiring." And that worried Issei, so far his fatigue has never gone up this much. When his fatigues go up his AGL decreases and using mana makes him even more tired than it should. What also worried him was that he didn't feel himself leveling up. Checking his stats it showed he didn't level up and his fatigue was at 60. He killed at least 30 of them. He sat down to rest and closed his eyes. Almost falling asleep he threw himself away from a sword that was going to impale him. Getting up quickly he brought his fist to the face of the knight caving in the face plate.

Running to another one he grabbed its helmet and ripped it off.

Going to his next target he pierced through where its heart would be. Bringing it out he kicked the head off of a nearby one.

Sighing he swore he saw smoke blow out of his mouth. He wasn't injured and haven't even touched his mana yet but all of this physical work was exhausting him at an incredible rate. None of his past enemies made him work this hard, and he isn't even near the boss.
Collecting his thoughts he almost got burned to a crisp when a fireball flew past him. He saw a man with a staff who wore many layers of cloaks.

Issie didn't know what was but that was the least of his worries. This is the first enemy that has mana. Ducking another fireball he sliced the magician in half, the garments it wore floated to the ground like a leaf.

Issie ducked behind a column and responded.
"What is it."
{Someone has entered my power concealing barrier and is making their way to the house as we speak!}
Issie's pupils dilated when Entropy finished his sentence. "Fuck do you have any idea who?"
The dragon replied, {I have absolutely no idea but this is a serious problem. Not only has someone located our base, but if I know someone is trespassing then Kuzuryu does too. I know she isn't dumb, and she must know that other supernaturals are in Kuoh. At best, we would have a heated conversation at worst there will be a fight that would light up any faction's radar with our house in the center of it!}
"Fuck plus my phone with all my porn is at the house!"
{That to, NOW HURRY! MAKE YOUR WAY BACK TO THE ENTRANCE OF THE GATE!}

Issei sprinted through the castle as fast as he could, the thought of saving his porn his top priority. "Shit how am I going to get through the doors that were closed?"

He chose not to respond to that. Issie was just about to swing the first set of doors but Entropy interrupted him.
{WAIT!}, Issei came to an abrupt stop and almost tripped. "What now!?"
{Make sure you close both doors, lock the main entrance with the key, and physically close the gate to prevent these guys from escaping. If the gate is still open then they could cross into the real world and could slaughter everyone in a small town before anyone would even notice. I simply call this a dungeon break, the act of monsters crossing into the real world, so make sure you close this gate!}
Not wanting a national emergency to occur Issei closed both doors and jumped out of the gate. Back outside the abandoned castle he grabbed the entrance of the gate and pulled them together, it made a clicking noise to signify that it was sealed. Closing the doors and using the key to lock it he was instantly teleported back home.
Arriving in his living room he was glad to see Kuzuryu was still there and looked at him in surprise. Before he could talk to her they both felt a presence. They both shot out of the door to confront the intruder. They spotted a female figure standing in the middle of the street.
The first thing he spotted was her eyes. Yellow eyes stared at him as she kept her pace getting closer and closer. She wore a blueish-green and white kimono that matched with her turquoise hair that also held gold hairpins. She looked slightly below height for a woman but Issei could tell she wasn't normal, the aura of a dragon gave it away.
Before he could speak Kuzuryu spoke out. "Another dragon... who is it this time."
The newcomer spoke,"Fufufu well in case you want to know who I am then I'll enlighten you." She opened her fan that covered most of her face and only showed a single eye. "I am Kiyohime and I'm.." she pointed a finger at Issei, her eye glowed red and reptilian pupil locked on Issei like a target, a smirk showing a mouth full of sharp teeth. "...here for him."
Issei was flabbergasted, what could this dragon want from him? Kuzuryu growled and stood in front of Issie, "I'm sorry, but he is unavailable."
Kiyohime snapped her fan shut, a smirk still on her face. "Is that so? But around this time of day he is usually watching TV am I correct?" Issei narrowed his eyes on her. How did she know what he did throughout the day? He needed answers.
Seeing the look on his face she laughed."Issei Hyoudou, you've caught my interest and I've been watching you... for a very VERY long time. I know a lot about you, more than you would like."
Kuzuryu growled while Issie held a serious look on his face.
"Observe"

'Ah fuck me..' a yandere is nothing but trouble, he watched enough anime to figure that out. After thinking some time he decided to fold. Stepping in front of Kuzuryu he spoke up, "Fine, what do you want?"
'Checkmate.' Kiyohime thought. "All I want is to spend a little time with you..." she walked up to him and whispered in his ear "darling."
'I'm fucked.' Issei knew that if a girl said that overused cliche line then he was done. 'I can't convince her to leave and I can't let her and Kuzuryu fight... I'll play her game for now until I find a way out of this mess.'
"So where do you want to go?" She took a step back and spun around. "A special place, away from here, and especially her." She spat.
"This bitch, Issei let me deal with her-" she was interrupted when Issei hugged her and whispered in her ear. "Go back to the house and stay there until I come back. Don't worry about me I'll be fine, don't forget who is watching over me."
{I'll kick her ass}, Entropy whispered to them.
[He would], Ddraig whispered out.
/Definitely\, The system rang in Issei's head.
"Fine but you better be back soon."
"I promise." Turning back towards Kiyohime who had a pissed off look on her face. "Alright so where are we going?" White wings shot out from her back, "Follow me." she yelled before taking off in the air. Looking back at Kuzuryu one more time he summoned his wings and took off after her.
(time skip 2 hours)
After flying for who knows how long, Kiyohime dived to the ground. When Issei landed on a sidewalk he was surprised that he lost track of her. Tired of never knowing where he was he took out his phone and used it to find out where he was.
"I'm in Hidakagawa... man I must have flew far considering I'm in the Wakayama Prefecture." He put his phone back into his pocket and locked around. 'Now time to find a psycho dragon.' He walked around the town for a while until he found a staircase that led to a temple. Something in his mind (probably Entropy) told him that Kiyohime was in the temple. Walking into the temple he was happy yet worried that no one was there. Wandering around for a bit he found himself by some ancient artifacts. He was glossing through them in mild interest until a scroll caught his attention. It was a story, about Anchin and Kiyohime. The title grabbed his full attention and he started reading.
'Once upon a time on the river banks of Hidaka there was a wealthy family which had a daughter called were on a route towards some popular pilgrimage sites and many pilgrims passed by their estate every day which they offered for the tired. One day a young handsome pilgrim called Anchin arrived. He was given a shelter and comfort of a home at Kiyohime's family and eventually he and Kiyohime fell in love. Anchin postponed his goal towards the ascetic sites for some time. He even promised her marriage. Kiyohime had grown very fond of him, and they lived together. However, after some time Anchin remembered his goal and overcome his feelings towards Kiyohime. He did not want to stay forever on their estate and wanted to move forward without some clear plans.
He left Kiyohime promising he would come back after he is done with his pilgrimage, but he did not. Kiyohime started to worry about him and decided to go alone after him.
She asked other pilgrims and travelers on the route towards the place Anchin was mentioning but the others were not able to help her. The name of the place he was going to visit was Kumano. She went further on and soon found out Anchin passed this way and was in Kumano. The woman finally found him, but he told her she had a wrong person and that they should not be together. She got angry and Anchin started praying to the god of Kumano and Kiyohime left. She soon found out she was cheated on which made her so angry that her face turned into a dragon. Anchin got scared and started running away towards Hidaka. He came to the river and asked the boatman to bring him to the other side and told him not to give a ride to Kiyohime. He then arrived to Doujouji temple and asked for the help to hide him from Kiyohime. No one there believed his story that she was turning into a dragon. Soon Kiyohime caught up with him and reached the river, but the boatman refused to take her to the other side. As soon as she stepped into the river she turned into a giant dragon. The boatman and everyone in the area started running away but Kiyohime was just focused on finding Anchin. Soon she reached the walls of Doujouji.
Anchin hid himself inside a huge bell and hoped that Kiyohime will pass by not noticing him and eventually forget about everything. But that's not what happened. Little did Anchin know that dragons have an incredible sense of smell. The walls and the gates did not keep her outside the fortified area and she broke in.'
Issei looked at the last few pictures of the story. He saw the dragon wrap itself around the bell and then-
"I loved him." A voice spoke from the darkness. Quickly turning from the scroll he saw Kiyohime's blood-red eyes staring at him. She slowly stepped out from the shadows and approached him.
"I loved him, I loved him, I loved him, he betrayed me, I was sad, I was sad, I was sad I was sad I was sad, I hate him I hate him I hate him hate hate hate hate hate hate hate... so..." grabbing Issie by the face, she brought him to her level and stared into his soul.
"...I burned him to death."
Letting go of him she took a step back and a smile formed on her face. "Well as time goes by things change. Life changes, priorities changes, and views change and I Kiyohime.." she pointed to Issei and opened her fan "has set my sights on you Issei Hyoudou, and I won't let another one get away... not again."

...
{Well time to go, yandere chicks creep me out} Issei felt his body starting to teleport.
"You'll be mine one day Issei Hyoudou."
Issei eyes widden by the tone of her voice.
"I promise."
He'll make sure he'll remember those words.
Falling onto his couch, Kuzuryu stared at Issie before turning back to the TV. "Go take a shower I can smell that bitch all over you."
"Looks like someone is jealous" Issei teased.
Kuzuryu kept silent.
"Shit I didn't finish the dungeon!" Already feeling himself teleport he told Kuzuryu he'll be back again.
Now in front of the castle again he went through the process again of unlocking it. Opening the door his eye caught attention of how the gate changed once more. The entrance was now dark red with the same color sparks. He didn't know what happened while he was out, but he knew it wasn't good for him.
Opening it and walking through, he opened the second set of doors he was welcomed by an army of knights and magicians and something big. They were 30 feet tall and looked like an amalgamation of knights, it also held a giant axe, and there were 5 of them.

If you asked Issie a couple hours of ago that causing explosions in enclosed spaces he would say it was a dumb idea, but as he brought up his Boosted Gear he held no regrets.
"EXPLOSION!"

Unleashing explosion after explosion, Issei ruthlessly spammed the skill to the point that smoke and debris clouded his vision. Letting the smoke settle the area was filled with slain enemies. Surprisingly the walls held strong but the rooms was filt with fire that burnt the remaining enemies.

'Only the magicians leveled me up, even after all of that time there still wasn't many of them. I think they actually summoned these knights and golems.'
Walking up to another door he knew the boss was behind it. He could feel the raw power behind it.
Opening the door, he found himself in the throne room. He thought the room was empty until he heard a noise.
*clunk* *clunk* clunk* *clunk*
From the shadows a 10-foot tall knight in crimson armor, its helmet had a long red hair like ornament, Issei thought it resembled feathers that knights wore on their helmets. It had star buckles that connected a red cape to its body. Around its waist was holsters for long knifes. It dragged a huge sword behind it. White eyes boring straight at Issie.
"Observe"

Issei gulped when he checked the boss. 'What an insanely strong bastard, I never seen a boss with stats like this.' The knight started walking towards Issei.
'It's coming.'
Igris swung his sword at Issei but missed him as he ducked seconds before. The wall behind him was severely damaged and the columns were obliterated. 'If that hit it could almost kill me.' Summoning his blood blade he struck Igris but his blade bounced off harmlessly. 'HOW IS HIS ARMOR SO STRONG!'
Ducking another sword strike he breathed fire just for Igris to dodge.

He was on top of Igris one second and took a swing at him, he let out a small cry of pain when the armor absorbed the force of his blow. 'Ok that was very stupid.' Igris backhanded Issei across the room. Hitting the ground hard Issie quickly stood up and thought of a plan.
'My sword and punches aren't doing a thing, my fire does nothing, and he'll dodge my explosions. He is faster, stronger, and has a way better defense than me... looks like I need to use my trump card, I said I was got to wear it anyway.'
[WELSH DRAGON BALANCE BREAKER] Ddraig's voice boomed across the room.
Fire and energy swirled across Issie. He felt the armor latch onto him and after a couple seconds the process was complete. Issei is now fully equipped in crimson armor except for his right arm, which housed Entropy, bulked up to adjust to the armor. His knees, elbows, and chest housed emeralds with his chest holding the biggest one. He noticed the armor came with a tail and sharp claws on his feet. Flexing his arms and legs Issie felt his confidence soar and turned back to Igris to see his reaction.
Igris tilted his head which confused Issie. Suddenly he planted his sword in the ground, he took off the buckles that held his cape which floated to the ground, he unlatched his knife holsters and threw it to the ground. He stood tall and ready for a fight.
"Chivalry?" Issei whispered, he was ready to go but got a major surprised that he would never expect in a million years.
Igris held up his right hand and power shot out from it in waves. His right hand bulked up and a familiar gem manifested on his hand.
[Im-impossible!] Ddraig said, [I remember him... Issei do you remember that I told you that I had a past host that was to reliant on a sword and met his demise when he was disarmed? Well that man is him... Blood-Red Commander Igris is a Red Dragon Emperor!]
Issie didn't say a word as he took in all of that information.
[Entropy explain yourself I thought you said that Issei would never enter this type of dungeon!]
Entropy responded, {I said that the gates won't lead to parallel universes... I never said that he couldn't witness the past}
'I time traveled?'
{No, pay attention to my words. Time travel is messy and I want nothing to do with that unless necessary. The method that this gate is formed is what I call a "copy and paste of time" This gate hasn't sent you back in time but it actually copied an event and pasted it into the present where you could have access to it. Think of it as a recreation but everything is real. The knight in front of you is the same knight from the past, if you kill him he would still have a tombstone. Note I'm not using the term "simulation" because that would imply everything here isn't real which it is. In a simpler way to imagine this, imagine time travel but you don't travel at all, in fact time travels to you}
"That is way too complicated for me to understand but I get the gist of it."

"I love you too system." Focusing back on the enemy in front of him he now understood why his armor was so damn resilient.
'It was like the system wanted to show me what the armor is capable of.'
[BOOST! x5] Issei felt his power multiply, this is the first time he boosted ever since he fought Kokabiel way back then...it felt good.
'Lets see how much this guy can tak-'
Igris was suddenly on top of him and threw him against a wall. Issie launched himself and landed a devastating blow sending the knight back a couple feet. The two Red Dragon Emperors shot at each other with incredible speed and started trading blow for blow. The ground they stood on cracked underneath their feet and spider webbed throughout the room.
[BOOST! x10] Issei punched Igris with so much force that it sent the knight flying through the throne room and crash through the throne itself, destroying it. Wasting no time Issei rushed over and picked up a large piece of the throne that was broken off and proceeded to smash it against the downed knight until a tiny rock sized piece was in his hand. Pausing a bit from feeling the strain of boosting he was surprised when Igris grabbed him by the face and slammed him head first into the seat of the throne over and over again.
Feeling his HP diminish and blood in his mouth from where he bit his tongue, Issie used an explosion to blow the knight off him. Using this time he got to his feet and gained some distance. 'My fatigue is going up fast, I need to finish this quickly.' Issei thought of a plan quickly, 'I got it! Even though it goes against this battle of chivalry I can't let this go on any longer.' Sinking in the shadows of a corner in the room he stood there ready to execute his plan.
Igris walked out the smoke and looked for Issei. Seeing a figure in a corner he shot forward and used all of his strength to punch the head of the figure in the shadows, his hand going right through and came out the other side. To his surprise the figure he thought he decapitated grabbed him. From the ceiling where there was also shadows another figure jumped down and landed a heavy blow on the head of the boss. The figure that was grabbing him let go and punched him in the stomach causing him to slide back just in time for the second figure in the air to land a roundhouse kick to the chest of Igris and sent him crashing into a column across the room.
Lifting his head up he saw 3 figures walk out from the shadows. One was the enemy he recognized as the one he has been fighting but the other two were new. They looked just like Issie in his scail mail armor but, they were all black. Black energy seemed to leak from different parts of their bodies, like they were shadows themselves. Little did Igris know that was actually the case.

-Is weaponless unless you summon them with a weapon in your hand. They have nerfed copies of your sacred gears though
Drawbacks;
-Will decrease your XP gain by 20% each as long as they are summoned

Issei smirked, "I knew these guys would come in handy one day." Pointing his finger at Igris he gave out a command. "Grab him." The two shadows launched from behind him and grabbed the crimson knight by both arms and held him up. Issei walked over to the knight and gave him his final words. "You are a worthy opponent, unfortunately you'll meet your end here but know you was the toughest enemy I ever faced. Thanks for the thrilling fight but.." Issei called his shadows back, lifted Igris face plate, and put his hand in the opening where his face would be.
"...it's over."
[BOOST! x20]
"EXPLOSION!"
The blast filled the entire throne room and rocked the entire castle. It sent Issei flying, and he hit a wall that collapsed and buried him under ruble and knocked him unconscious. The last thing he saw was the system telling him that he leveled up.

Issei woke up and shuddered in pain, it felt like his whole body was on fire, and he had numerous aches and pains, even though he was asleep it wasn't long enough to completely heal him. Realizing that he was buried alive he called his shadows again and had them dig him out of the ruble. Finally getting out he looked around the room that was utterly destroyed. He was surprised that the room didn't fully collapse under itself considering the damage. The wall where he hit and the wall that held the door to the room was gone which connected the throne room to the rest of the castle. All the columns were gone and the throne itself was unrecognizable. Walking out in the middle of the room it suddenly went dark when a random gush of wind blew out every torch and covered the whole area in darkness, his shadows looked like they disappeared, but he knew they were still there.
Suddenly the torches lit back up in a ceremonious fashion. On one side the torches had dark purple or blue flames and the other side had red or green flames. He was weary for a moment until the system ringed out.

The darkness in the room started to get frantic like it was alive and a light breeze started to swirl around the room.

Both of his shadow summons started to twitch and shake as their eyes beamed out a red light.

Their bodies where all black except for certain parts, for the knights and golems their visors let out green light, with the magicians their whole facial area was green. The bodies seemed to flow in the darkness and even was transparent at times. He turned around and saw Igris walk to him. His eyes glowed red and his boosted gear glowed green.
