Chapter 6: Claws and Iron
This chapter is long overdue. I originally planned on getting this chapter out a week ago, but I suffered major writer's block. Now I know first hand what author's feel when they also say they suffer from it. In fact I rewrote this chapter four or five times and I'm still not satisfied with it.
Regardless it might take me a while of getting back to spitting two chapters out a week. I haven't even wrote 10 chapters, yet I learned so much from reviews and the website alone.
Speaking of reviews shoutout to Yamito-kun. Thanks for belly laugh when I read your review. Don't worry this story isn't dieing anytime soon
For Jetff, I will consider this an option. I need to keep the story in different directions that will divert from the anime, and if I fail to do that then you would just be reading DXD but with an overpowered Issei. I do have some plans but I wasn't thinking about adding a female Vali, so considering that (s)he will be added, but don't expect her to appear after a certain arc. Thanks for the suggestion.
And finally for Crywolfseven I'm pretty sure that when Sung Jin-Woo gets a title he keeps it until he actually wants to change out of it. Like for example in chapter 50 of the manhwa you can see him actively switch titles hence him saying "Title Change". My system is slightly different but it follows the same concept. Issei will keep a title until he switches out of it and so on.
Expect chapter 7 in a week or more. I'm actually going to take my time to rewatch the anime to refresh my mind and help me plan things out from here.

'So certain type of shadows have a specific rank, interesting.' He also noticed that the knights had the power of a low class devil while the knight golems and magicians carried the power of a middle class devil, Igris however had the power of a high class devil putting him right along Issei. Speaking of Igris, he walked up to Issei, knelt, and opened his hand to reveal a rune. Taking it from his hand he broke it.

Rudely teleporting Issei back to his house. Walking in he saw the TV was still on but the dragon wasn't present, so he figured she must have went to bed. Deciding to do the same he searched the room for the remote, seeing it on the coffee table he used his new skill to bring it right to his hands. Almost pressing the power button he got a sudden chill and turned his head to look behind him. Seeing nothing but his shadow on the wall he thought it was nothing.
'Wait was my shadow always that big?' Turning back again he stared at his shadow for a few moments until faces appeared. Little faces of all his shadows showed.
'So my shadows literally follow me in my shadow...makes sense.' Now knowing there was nothing wrong he turned off the TV and went to bed.

Issei opened his door and was greeted by cold winter air and snow. It's February, and its been months since he'd been in a dungeon because he wanted to keep a low profile after the Kiyohime incident, because of that, Entropy decided to once again expanded the barrier even more. Issei also decided to even limit the number if trips to even a smaller degree which meant he only went out 2 or 3 times a month, bought a lot of supplies, and stayed home most of the time. During his trips he hadn't detected any supernaturals near him which he was grateful for but also unnerved him. He wasn't worried about anyone except Kiyohime, the dragon made a promise, and he hasn't seen her in months which made Issei wonder what she was planning.
Being cooped up in a house for months wasn't fun. Don't get him wrong he enjoyed spending time with Kuzuryu, they have gotten way closer as the time went by, and doing nothing all day was awesome. Occasionally he would take time to look into stuff they taught at school, so he just watched a lot of YouTube videos in his spare time. He'll take watching an Indian guy do math over listening to a teacher any day, he really did have to thank Entropy for them. Sighing after he recognized a habit he was doing, he replaced God with Entropy which amused the dragon to no end.
Of course his perverted nature never disappeared, porn was still a major part of his life, and he doesn't think he'll ever let that go.
"It's been a while since I've been in a dungeon and frankly I'm tired of being stuck in the house It's time to get back to the dungeons."
He was going to tell Entropy to send him to one but then an intriguing idea came to him.
'Hey Entropy can we bring Kuzuryu along in the dungeons?' When he thinks about, she has been stuck in the house and wasn't allowed to leave, he figured that it must be a huge downgrade from being a power dragon god to now being a couch potato. Plus he didn't want her to think he is keeping her captive here. He'll discuss that with her after finishing a dungeon run.
{There is nothing stopping multiple people to entering a dungeon, as long as they have access to a gate then anyone could enter a gate which fortunately not everyone is aware of and even if they were they wouldn't have the power to open one}
'That's great news, now let's go get Kuzuryu.'
Walking back to see the dragon sit in the same spot for months made him solidify his choice about bringing her out. "Kuzuryu get up you're going out with me." The dragon perked up after hearing that and asked him, "Where are we going?" Issei never told her where he goes he always answered with vague terms which made him feel even worse. Man he really been treating her like a prisoner wasn't he?
"I'm taking you to a place that allowed me to get where I am now, I'll explain the rest later so come on." He walked outside and she followed and stood next to him.
"Alright Entropy, send us." Her eyes widden when both of their bodies glowed and in a flash of light they both disappeared.
They reappeared in a snowy forest, Issei thought it was a good time to explain.
"You see Kuzuryu, I enter different universes, dimensions, or even another planet, and fight the enemies I encounter there, think of it like the dungeons you enter when you play video games. Walking over to where the gate was he pointed it out to her. "You see this area here, this is the gate that bridges our reality to the dungeons and once I open it I have access to it. So what do is simple, I use both of my sacred gears and rip it open...", calling both of his sacred gears, Kuzuryu flinched by the sudden increase in power. This is actually the first time he showed her his sacred gears which made her wonder what else he was hiding. Grabbing the gate he then ripped it open which unleashed a torrent of harmless sparks the white energy swirled around anxiously like it was calling them to enter.
"Now we can enter the gate so ladies first." He invited her to step in, which she slowly walked into before disappearing, Issei followed right after.
They arrived in a forest that was near identical to the one they were just in. Even though he and Kuzuryu was now in a large clearing he couldn't get the thought that they were in the same forest.

Two objects flew through the air at high speeds aiming straight for them. Instinctively Issei caught it inches away from his face and looking at Kuzuryu she did the same. Looking at what almost peirced him he saw it was an arrow made of ice that now covered most of his hand.
"Up there in the trees.", Kuzuryu pointed a good distance away at two figures in a tree. They had light blue skin, white hair, blue glowing eyes, and wore mild winter clothing.
He saw the ears and a thought came to him, 'They look like elves...'
"Observe"

Just when Issei read the last line of the entry and looked over at them, one of them held up his hand and gave Issei and Kuzuryu a massive middle finger while the other one laughed his ass off. Gritting their teeth they both simultaneously shattered the arrows into a million pieces. The two Ice Elves leapt off their branches and went deeper into the forest.
"Should we go after them?", Kuzuryu asked.
"No, but we'll make sure they die a painful death later." Checking his surroundings he decided to go in another direction. "Let's head this way for now." Kuzuryu nodded and followed after him. Walking in the forest for a few minutes Issei spotted multiple claw marks on trees.
"Somone is marking their territory", the water dragon said. Issei turned to see Kuzuryu looking at the claw mark, she placed her hand on the tree to show how massive the claws on the thing that did it. "Hey you said "Observe" back when we encountered those elf like creatures, what does that do exactly?"
Issei hummed out his answer "Well it's a power I use to find out what something is and how powerful it is comparing to me."
"Well if it tells you what you are looking at then can you use it on this tree to find out what kind of beast left this mark?"
That was an interesting, Issei never thought about using his skill like that. "I've never done it before but I guess I could try. Observe."

"It was made by an ice bear." Kuzuryu hummed at the answer. Moving on the kept walking until they heard thumping.
*growl*
In front of them multiple behemoths came charging in until the were in proximity.
Their growls showed deadly icicle like teeth, white fur hid bulging muscles. One of them stood up and easily reached 15 feet tall, showing paws with claws that could easily swipe a grown man's body in half. Looking at Kuzuryu he saw that she wasn't even fazed he guessed being a dragon god come with its own perks. He was going to attack but a message popped up.

Issei clicked his tongue, he can't let this experience go to waste. "Hey I'll do all the fighting I brought you here anyway so you don't need to lift a finger, so just leave it to me." Kuzuryu paused for a moment before nodding "Fine, but I'll intervene if I deem it necessary." Satisfied with her answer he charged into battle.
In front of him were five Ice Bears, targeting the first one he equipped his Blood Blade and sliced it into 3 pieces, moving on he breathed fire on the nearest one melting the ice and blazed everything's in its path including the bear. The third bear met its demise when Issei sprinted over and painfully ripped two claws from its paw and used them to climb the bear like a mountain and savagely planted both claws in the bears eyes. The Red Dragon Emperor then used dark blade to spill the guts of the fourth bear before moving on to the last.
"I wonder...if I switch titles", He switched titles from Grim Reaper to Hunter.

Issei expected a lot of things to happen, what he didn't expect for the bear to literally pop like a bloody balloon. Blood, guts, and other bodily parts were thrown across the forest. A red paste sat in the spot the bear stood and the only sign of an animal being there in the first place was its legs that plopped to the ground and intestines that hung from nearby trees, some falling to the ground in a sickening splat sound.

Kuzuryu at the last moment set up a thick five foot wall of water to protect her, opening her eyes she saw that her blue defenses were red from absorbing all the blood. Dismissing the barrier the bloody water stained the white snow. 'He is definitely more powerful than when I first met him.'
Issei gave a small laugh and rubbed the back of his head, "Sorry, guess I went a little overboard." Kuzuryu shook her head, "You're fine... so fighting in places like this is how you get stronger?" Issei nodded in response and kept moving not leaving any room for more questions. He wanted to open up to her yes, but he didn't want to reveal everything about his secret life.
They walked for a couple more minutes until they reached another large clearing with a cave. Multiple roars rang out from the entrance of the cave as a small army of 19 bears stomped out of it.
'Nearly four times the amount I first faced.' A smirk grown on his face as his shadow widened a considerable amount which shocked Kuzuryu and made her take a few steps away from Issei.
"Come out." His shadow bursted to life, an army formed and stood ready for any order.
"You guys know its your first mission right?"
A shocked Kuzuryu stuttered, "I-Issei w-who are-" she let out a shriek when a knight golem lumbered from the treeline and almost stepped on her.
"Don't disappoint me." This made the knights clinch their weapons and made magicians hands burst flames in anticipation. Igris stood tall behind Issei.
"Go."
Both sides charged at each other and a battle ensued. Claws and iron met and even though Issei was superior in numbers the bears did give a good fight. It took a swarm of knights to kill a single bear. The poor ones that met the golems were gutted like a fish and the magicians served as a great distraction by blowing off limbs or deeply scorching the bears thicc hide.
'They do consume a massive amount of mana though.'

A single bear swiped 5 soldiers in half, Issei watched as his mana depleted even more, but more came along and eventually killed the bear. Issei's shadows were gaining ground as the bears numbers dwindled.
*ROOOAAAR*
A massive bear appeared who sported multiple scars, 'Must be their leader', it tore through his ranks and even knocked over some golems who were too slow to react.
"Igris." The shadow who stood by Issei the whole time shot forward and sliced the colossal ice bear with lethal precision. The bear couldn't keep up and stood on its hind legs and roared in rage. However, its roar was cut short when Igris decapitated the bear. Its body fell limply to the ground. Igris walked over and placed the leaders head on the ground and bowed the rest of his shadows following suit.
"This is fucking awesome!" Issei exclaimed.
"Who are these soldiers?" The dragon asked.
"Oh, these are my shadows."
"Shadows? Then how do get these "shadows" then?"
"Well it's best to just show you." He highlighted all the bears with his skill.

He walked over to the leader and said his command phrase. "Arise."
Shadows busted from the bodies, and they roared with a new purpose as they felt power flow through their new bodies.
"You just bought them back from the dead..."
Kuzuryu whispered to Issei.
"Yup and now I have 20 more powerful soldiers."

'Excellent.' He was getting ready to call his shadows back and move on until he and Kuzuryu felt a sudden new power arrive. The ice bear leader stood up on his hind legs and sniffed the air and let out a growl.

'How?' Issei questioned. 'Entropy can you explain?'
{If someone has the knowledge and power to find or make a gate then they can enter dungeons or open it for another person}
'Do you have any idea on who?'
{I have no idea}, he stated {But I do know that it probably someone from one of those damn monarchs} he hissed to himself. {I suggest you find them immediately}, Entropy suggested. {And most importantly kill them}
Issei called his shadows back and told Kuzuryu to follow him as he ran through the forest.

Running through the forest at insane speeds he looked back to see was the water dragon still there and turns out she was hot on his tail. 'I guess she is still significantly stronger than me.' He reasoned. 5 minutes of running through ice and snow they both came to a stop when they saw a what looked like a large pink ape dead on the ground.
"Observe"

"These guys are no joke, whoever killed them were strong." Walking from there they encountered more bodies of dead yeti. They heard fighting and ran until they found themselves in another clearing.

I front of them where bodies of at least 10 yetis, 3 of them was facing against someone with a large shield, their clubs bouncing off harmlessly. They kept hammering until a mace made all three yeti's head a bloody paste. The abomination revealed itself and let out a victorious roar.
"What is that?"
{A demon} the dragon hissed. {The Monarch of White Flames has sent a scouter... well he won't leave this dungeon alive!}
Issei noticed a gate that the thing must have came through. Unlike normal gates that have white light this one was orange and had a weird feeling coming from it.
{I wonder who else has made their move}
(Flash back to 4 years ago. Location: Underworld)
On one of the vast lakes was an island with a volcanic mountain on it. At first glance this island was nothing special but with a closer look gigantic ants scurried around.
In the center of the mountain laid the largest ant. Above that ant was a gate and through that gate was a grotesque abomination.
"You shall birth a mighty warrior one day that will lead your empire and rain havoc amongst this world and soon this universe."
The abomination told the ant.
"Out of all of my test subjects you was the most successful. I have high expectations and failure isn't an option. Continue to feed and grow, you will know when the time is right to strike." The gate started to close as the woman said her last words.
"The universe will fall and no one, not even chaos himself, will stop me... The Monarch of Plagues reign will be absolute."
Looking back at the monster, it turned its attention to Issei and narrowed its single beady eye, Issei used this time to get a good look at it as well.
Starting at the face it looked demonic just as Entropy said. It had a single yellow eye as the other one has an eye patch over it. Two flanged mandible like jaws with a single tooth on each side paralleled a mouth that had savage looking teeth. The cheek bone was also jagged and had two large horns stick out from its head. On its back mangy hair lead up to the back of its head. It had strong broad shoulders, its right arm had a gauntlet and armor that was in the shape of a skull while its left had no armor. The hands had sharp claws and in those hands where a mace that was in the shape of a skull and a huge rectangular shield that hade a face of a skull. Issei noticed that the shield eyes and mouth were moving and constantly spat out orange and red sparks from its orange eyes and mouth. Moving down it had some plated armor on his chest and stomach area, Issei almost giggled when he saw an armored loin cloth that was in the shape of a skull. If a slight goat like face wasn't enough to convince you that it was a demon then the goat legs were a dead give away.
"Observe."

"Not on par with Igris but is still considerably strong." Demon huh? From what Entropy told him that in the underworld demons don't actually exists, so he knew that whoever opened the gate for the demon to pass came from somewhere else.
"This is going to be fun." Charging in he let out a turret of Flames that was blocked by its shield. He used the flames as a distraction to get right on top of the demon and tried to land a devastating blow, but it was once again absorbed by the shield. Briefly the eyes on the shield glowed green and the demon attacked which forced Issei to land a bit away. He was surprised when the mace outstretched and jet out making Issei dodge once again.
Dodging out of the way he waited for the demon to attack once more. Getting closer once again the ground in front of the demon lit up and a pulse of toxic energy shot out causing Issei to side step out of the way. The next few minutes played the same music of both of them negating each other's attacks.
'Alright I'm done with this.' Activating his sprint skill he was once again on top of the demon and sliced it with his blood blade which did a considerable amount damage.
"You know goatman..." Issei flicked the blood on his blade turning the snow red. "I honestly could of killed you already..." He wasn't lying about that, if he used the triple strike ability for his blade and activated sword master then he could of one shot him. Well maybe his defense without the shield would let him bleed out for a few. "So at least make this entertaining!"
Their bout was rudely interrupted when a large amount of yeti appeared from the forest. They rushed in and forced themselves in between Issei and the demon. After separating them, the yeti put pressure on the Gladiator which forced it to retreat, the apes giving chase.
"We're not done yet." He told to Kuzuryu who nodded knowing what he was talking about.
"You can undo your stealth, there is no use hiding yourself if you're going to bring a small army." A sudden gust of when blew a large amount of snow, and in the brief snowstorm countless blue eyes appeared. When the snow finally settled a hyakki on horseback trotted forward from his countless men behind him. 'His energy, it feels like I'm in front of a white phantom...that has to be the boss.'
"Yes these two are strong, stronger than I expected, good it won't be boring then." The boss said.
"We are not the ones to ogle at blue balls." Issie responded.
All the hyakki flinched when they heard him.
"You can speak our language? Interesting!"
Kuzuryu paused to think just how Issei could communicate with these monsters, while for Issei he guessed it was just another perk of the system.
The boss grinned. "To be able to converse with a human...amazing." He then brought his hand down and motioned over a familiar elf. "There is someone I want to introduce. You're already acquainted if I'm aware."
Issei and Kuzuryu flashed back to this guy flipping them off. "He is the one who notified us that strong humans have entered our forest."
'They must be able to tell that I'm part human and Kuzuryu must be blending in well...that explains a lot.', Issei thought. The boss carried on.
"This guy wanted to face off against you so-" He didn't even finish his sentence as Issei dashed forward and sliced both his arms off. The elf didn't get the chance to scream when Issei kicked him in his back and sent him flying to Kuzuryu who stabbed her claws into his stomach and tore his body in half. Issei immediately reappeared by her side.
"Sorry to interrupt, but what were you saying about facing off?"
The White Phantom paused for a moment and gave a wicked smile. "You two are amusing."
"And you are annoying, now stand still, so I can kill you." Issei kept everyone distracted because if they weren't then they would notice the ground darken a few shades.
This made the boss chuckle, "No talks for peace or negotiations and getting straight to the point, but how do you plan on fighting my army?"
"Like this, COME OUT!" From their rear his 5 golems rose from the ground killing hyakkis in the process as the rest of his army rose by him and charged forward to battle.
'They are doing decently well, but they really are draining my mana. I could end this guy but I can tell he won't go down without a fight. He is weaker than me but stronger than Igris...' The boss slowly made his way to Issei, cutting down soldiers in his path.

'He is certainly a problem.' He needs a strong soldier, and he knows exactly where to get one, but he'll just need to buy his time.
'The boss will suffice for now.' Deciding to activate his skill dark blade he charged forward and laughed at the reaction of the boss when his daggers went right through his skull.

"Attack me all you want but it will be fruitless."
The white phantom gritted his teeth and frantically slashed Issei just for his attacks to either miss or go through him. This went on until the skill deactivated. "You know I could have killed you at least four times in the last 5 minutes. I was just waiting for that guy to show up."
*ROOAR*
The demon plowed through the trees. Numerous injuries showed on his body, some even looked serious. It just fought a glorious battle against those yetis but his main mission was to kill the head of the Shadow Monarch... yes that is why he was sent here, that is what the voice screaming in his head was telling him to do. Letting out a war cry he locked on Issei and planned on turning him into a blood paste. If his bloodlust didn't cloud his vision then he would have noticed that the ground he was running on was black.
"Igris, kill him." The shadow rose from the ground and sliced the demon in the stomach and brought it up all the way to its heart. A stab with a knife into his already lost eye sealed the deal.
'Excellent.' He thought, he knew that the goal of that demon had to do with him. "Arise."
*ROOOOOAAAAARRRRR*
Igris carried on the attack against the boss as Issei took a look at his new shadow. 'Did he get taller?' This guy is at least 20 feet tall. He now sported new black armor, his mace and shield also grew larger. The eyes on his face and mace were green, the shield now has red eyes and mouth which occasionally spit out a large amount of orange and red sparks, a testament of what it once was.

"Gladiator is a bit of a mouthful hmm Iron, yes. Your name is Iron."

"A great addition to my army, let's see what you can do." He pointed to the boss. "Kill him."
Iron let out a roar.

"Another interesting guy showed up hahaha." The boss laughed maniacally. Igris and Iron attacked with vigor but the boss didn't wear down at all. Even with decreased stats he didn't let up and used skill to stay alive. After another clash both Igris and Iron jumped back to Issei as he mentally called them because of the mana loss.
"My name is Baruka, it was rude for me to not introduce myself."
Issei sighed, he really didn't want to be here he wanted to take to Kuzuryu to clear his consciousness and this guy is just annoying.
"Wow I literally don't care."
Baruka chuckled, "You are quite cocky for someone who is going to die."
"Oh really?" It was Issei's turn to chuckle, "Look around! Is this the best your army can do?"
Baruka looked around him to see his men laid to waste staining the pure white snow with blood. Bodies mangled and mutilated, not a single one was alive and even if they were death would be more desirable.
"I have more pressing matters to attend to." All of his shadows slowly surrounded Baruka.
"Get this over with." After the last word left Issei's mouth every shadow soldier converged on top of him. The shadows made quick work of him but his grisly death was painful.

Issei's eyes widened as he felt a massive increase of power, something that didn't go unnoticed by Kuzuryu. He wondered how he leveled up that much, but when thought about it, there were a lot of hyakki grunts and each one did give a fair share of experience. This is the first time that the boss's lackeys leveled him up than the boss itself. He called back all his shadows. He barely did anything but the mana drain was crazy, he'll ask Entropy for a solution later but now he has to deal with the situation in front of him.
First and foremost he is taking that horse, it was of the utmost importance that he must have that horse and if anyone disagrees with that, then they have serious issues that they need to get checked out.
"Here horsey horsey *whistles* come to papa." He slowly walked over to the horse and pet it, he was surprised it didn't run away must be trained. "Entropy give me a carrot."
A carrot appeared in his hand and he let the horse nibble it. "Kuzuryu! Kuzuryu look! He is eating it!" Kuzuryu honestly didn't know how to feel about this. One second he is commanding an army to slaughter his enemies the next he is trying to tame a horse.
Now that he has the horse under control he turned his attention to the numerous bodies around him. "But do I really want these assholes in my army?" Nope he surely doesn't. What a waste then.

Teleporting in front of their house, Issei started to lead the horse into the backyard. "Kuzuryu I have to ask you something after I get our new friend situated, so make yourself comfortable." She nodded and walked in.
"Alright let's get you comfortable." Issei led the horse in the backyard and looked around in disappointment. His yard wasn't big enough for a horse to live comfortably.

Walking back in the house, he found Kuzuryu sitting on the couch she usually sits. "Since I just want to clear my consciousness I'm just going to just come out and say it. Do you even want to stay in the house with me?"
She was genuinely surprised when he asked, "Why do you ask?"
"Isn't it obvious? I kinda kept you here for almost a year and you couldn't even leave the house. When I leave I don't tell you where I'm going and all you do is stare at the TV most of the day. I don't want to keep you prisoner in this house forever as a dragon god I expect you guys love your freedom and go from that to this? Look just say the word and you come leave and never come back, you wouldn't even have to deal with me or Entropy ever again."
Kuzuryu sat for a moment. There was an eerily feeling that didn't set well with Issei, he didn't know if it was guilt but this felling was alive for a few minutes. Kuzuryu opened her mouth and Issei braced for the words he would hear.

"Hahahaha!" Issei paused, he didn't expect that. Soon the dragon burst out into a belly laugh, "What's so funny?" She kept laughing for a few minutes until she calmed down. Wipe tears from her eyes she spoke "Did you really believe that I felt like a prisoner? Issei if I didn't want to stay I would've left months ago. Throughout my existence this is the most I felt at peace and definitely entertainment. Do you know what I was doing before I met you?" I was just sitting in a cave and barely moved for years on end. I'm glad that I felt you're power and made a move because this is the best thing to happen in my life. I willingly came here and I don't plan on leaving."
A massive weight has just been lifted off his shoulders, it was a major relief to know that he wasn't doing anything against another person, well beings, will. He sunk into a nearby couch and relaxed. "That's good to hear, it's been wearing me down all day."
