Helena stood on the rooftop, looking over the city. Alive as always, the air was filled with the bustling sounds of Gotham's nightlife. As anyone from Gotham would know, the city was only truly awake during the late hours of the night. Only then could one see Gotham's true colors. Helena often felt that about herself as well. She loved her job as the school teacher, but it was just a facade. Much like Bruce was Batman, Helena was the mask, and Huntress was who she truly was. It was not a sad life, however, she had many friends and allies. Dinah and Barbara were like the sisters she never had, and Batman's family was always a source of comfort. Even still, something bugged her. She had captured her mother and Santo, but there was one family heirloom that still alluded her. Helena's father had a family ring, which had been passed down to her brother. Of course, after the murder of her family, she never saw the ring again. She was determined to change that.

Huntress was snapped out of her line of thought when she heard the echo of a female voice surround her. She turned and her the voice more clearly say, "ot ssertnuh!" In a swirl of bright and colorful magic, the figure of Zatanna appeared before her. Dressed in her standard fishnet leggings and magicians outfit, Zatanna seemed to fit right in with the costumed crusaders of Gotham. In fact, Zatanna was no stranger to the city at all, but despite this, she and Helena had limited interactions. They were both friends of Batman, though, which put them in a small circle. "Don't take this the wrong way," Zatanna said, taking a look at her surroundings, "But I almost didn't come, frankly, I didn't even know you had my number."

Helena grinned to herself and shrugged, "I didn't, but Dinah does, so now I do." Helena's relationship with the Justice League was complicated, but her friendships with some of its members were strong. When she needed help contacting someone, it was not difficult to call in a few favors. "But I am thankful you came. This is a bit more personal than business, but your skills are the most efficient way of achieving my goal."

"I'm a magician, not a mind reader," Zatanna replied, and placed a hand on her hip. She then softened a bit, as if realizing she came off a bit too cold, "I mean, my powers are limited, there is only so much I can do," she took a small pause. Helena was used to the skeptical glances from League members. Her reputation as a loose canon preceded her, and she often struggled fitting-in with the A-list heroes, especially the superpowered ones. "But I will try."

"Thank you," Helena smiled, genuinely. After all, Zatanna was doing her a favor while barely knowing her. "I invited one more person, and he should be here soon. I am not positive what situation we are dealing with here, and I figured we could use some backup."

Before Zatanna could ask about their third teammate, the two women heard footsteps from the fire escape stairs. "Did you have to pick the tallest building in Gotham?" The women saw the familiar shiny red helmet approach them. The man reached for the helmet and pulled it off, revealing the face of their friend Jason Todd. "Hello Zatanna, I don't know who I was expecting, but it wasn't you."

"Likewise," Zatanna quipped before raising her eyebrow.

"Helena, you have one of the Justice League's powerhouse members here, why did you need me?" Jason asked while he and Zatanna turned to Helena. It was clear that both of them were curious about their mission and their specific roles. "Not that I don't love seeing either of you, I am just surprised you didn't call Dick" he added in a snarky tone.

Helena chuckled a little. It was true that she was the closest with Dick, but she had known all of the Robins and Batgirls, so she felt no hesitation in calling Jason for this mission. "I called you because I needed someone who wouldn't judge me." It was true that she could have simply called Batman, or even her fellow Birds of Prey to help her find this family heirloom, but for some reason, both of those options left her stomach in knots. With Batman, there was no room for emotional processing, at least during the mission. With him, she often felt like one of his children, which she hated. On the other hand, the Birds of Prey, although like sisters to her, had a rigid morality, and they knew her too well. In such a personal mission, she knew they would be concerned with her and micro-manage her. It came from love, and she knew that, but thats not what she needed right now.

"And what about me judging you?" Zatanna asked.

"Well, I really don't care if you judge me or not," Helena fired back in a calm tone that made it hard for anyone to understand how serious she actually was.

"Listen, I know both of your reputations. If this mission is some sort of revenge kill or planned blood bath, then count me out," Zatanna replied angrily. And just like Helena said, she did not care that Zatanna was judging her, but she did need the magician's help.

Helena shook her head, "No, no killing. At least not from me. I can't speak for the fallen bird over there." Jason's eyes narrowed on her, but she ignored it. "I am looking for a family heirloom. When my family was gunned down, I am sure the murderers looted out bodies for valuables. Many of them were family treasures, but this ring was special. I want it back. I was hoping Zatanna could use some kind of spell, and then we could retrieve it."

Zatanna's attitude had softened again, likely due to hearing of Helena's tragic story. At the end of the day, Helena knew Zatanna was compassionate, and Helena only had herself to blame for her reputation. She could not blame Zatanna for being weary. "How do we know anyone took the ring? For all we know..." The magician trailed off, not wanting to finish her line of thought.

"For all we know, the locator spell could lead us to a corpse," Jason finished what they all were thinking, with a bluntness that no one could be upset about.

Helena nodded, "That is a possibility. I know where my family is buried and if the spell leads to that location then I am content to let the ring rest with them, but I have to know for sure. Surely you two understand. Right?"

Zatanna nodded, "Of course I do, but locator spells are hard, especially for objects. If you had a piece of it maybe, but doing one out of thin air is nearly impossible. Batman's old fashioned detective skills might suit your mission better than my magic." Helena could tell that Zatanna was telling the truth, and her apologetic tone was clear. If there was any way, Zatanna would help, but it doesn't seem possible.

"Thank you anyway. I know even magic has limits," Helena sighed, but was genuinely thankful for both of their help. She would continue her search regardless, but Zatanna's part at least, was over. Then it hit her, "The female companion ring was my mom's wedding ring, and then they gave it to me. I still have it, but the two rings were made from the same piece of gold, would that work?"

Zatanna's face lit up and nodded, "I can't make any promises, but I think that could work. Do you have the ring with you?"

Helena nodded and reached into a sealed component of her belt. Her plan was to reunite the rings and put them somewhere safe, so that is why she had brought the other ring with her. Holding out her hand with the ring, Helena was reminded of her family and that fateful day. The last day she'd hold the hand of any member of her family. "Nothing will happen to it right?"

Zatanna gently took the ring and shook her head, "The spell is harmless. I promise I will take care of it," she responded with an assuring smile. "Does anyone have a map? Electronic works better. Normally technology and magic don't get along, but the zoom features of a digital map can give us a more precise location."

"Here, use this," Jason threw a small, but dense piece of metal on the ground which promptly displayed a holographic globe in font of them. "Daddy's rich,"Jason teased, but the two women were less than amused by his joke. "Wrong time or wrong crowd?"

"Just wrong," Zatanna smirked, but then let a small smile show, before beginning her incantation. Helena never understood magic. She'd almost not believe in it if she was not seeing it with her own eyes. Really, she supposed that she was not meant to understand, just like not everyone understood her. Even still, with her limited knowledge of magic, she knew enough to know that Zatanna was the best of the best. The ring began to glow and levitated up to the map. Without being prompted, the globe spun and the ring found its way over the Italian peninsula. Huntress was hardly surprised. Then, the map began to zoom in rapidly, before showing a satellite image of an elaborate estate. "This is it. This estate in a small town in Italy"

"I will have the computer pin the location," Jason suggested before placing the marker without receiving a response from his teammates.

"Great, thank you," Helena smiled, "Ok Jason, lets go, we need to find a flight to Italy."

"Now hold on," Zatanna protested before the ring gently floated back into her palm. "You don't want me to come? I could be a lot of help!"

"Just because we don't have powers doesn't mean we can't handle ourselves," Jason sneered, "Besides, you know our reputations remember? I am surprised you'd even want to-"

Helena raised her hand to get Jason to stop talking, "You have done more than enough for me," she took the ring back and secured it in the compartment. "There is no need for you to give me any more of your time. I am thankful for your help, but I know you have a life to live, and other friends." Helena smiled, wanting Zatanna to know this was not personal. Helena knew she had asked a lot of the magician already, and they did not even know what they were walking into. She could not ask more of Zatanna.

"I am in this now, I plan on seeing it through," Zatanna declared, clearly not taking no for an answer. "With my teleportation magic I can have us there now. Besides, maybe I want to make sure you two do this by book." The magician grinned mischievously as she eyed the two vigilantes.

Helena smiled and nodded, "Then you will come with us, to keep us in line. Now lets go."

"Wait, what do you know of this place?" Jason asked frantically. "I am for going in guns blazing, but seeing at the magician won't let us, we need to have some kind of plan going in!"

"I have a plan. We break in and we win," Helena grinned as she looked at the fallen Robin, "Don't act like you don't love the danger Jason. Now Zatanna, take us to Italy!"
