I know I need to finish up Guardian Warlocks, but this popped into my head.
A warlock shows up at the loft and doesn't make a good impression on anybody.
Enjoy.

Ten year old Maxine has her notebook and textbooks spread out on the kitchen table. It's Columbus Day, she has a test tomorrow.
There's a knock on the door. She stands, walks to the door and opens it. A man she's never seen before glares down at her, "Let me talk to Bane."
She folds her arms across her chest as she looks up at him, "That's kind of rude."
He looks at her blue skin, "You're a warlock?"
Maxine rolls her eyes, "No, I'm a smurf."
"What's a smurf?"
Maxine sniffs, "Why do you want to see my Poppa?"
"Bane's your father?"
"Dah."
"Maxine, who's at the door?" Magnus walks out of his office.
She turns to her father, "Some rude man, Poppa."
Magnus quickly walks over. He glares at the man, "Demetrius, what can I do for you after all these years?"
"Magnus, I need a potion."
Maxine sniffs, "Do it yourself."
Magnus chuckles, "Maxine, I got this, go back to your studying."
"Okay, Poppa." She walks back to the table and sits down.
"You know she's right, Demetrius."
"I'm in a hurry, Bane. It's easier to pay you then to bother doing it myself."
Maxine coughs, "Lazy."
Magnus turns to his daughter, "Hush." She giggles. Magnus turns back to his visitor, "Fine, $2000."
Demetrius' jaw drops, "Are you insane?"
"Then do it yourself."
"Alright."
"I don't take checks. Cash only. American dollars."
Demetrius reaches into his pocket and counts out twenty hundred dollar bills. He hands the money to Magnus, "Here."
Magnus examines each bill as he counts them, then puts the money in his pocket, "Okay, now what potion do you need?"
"A love spell."
Maxine bursts out laughing, "A rude man needs a love potion, wow who would have thought that."
Magnus chuckles, "Maxine, behave. Any particular love potion?"
Demetrius glares at Maxine, over her father's shoulder, then shakes his head, "Just the basic one will do."
"It'll take about a half hour or so."
"Can't it be done faster?"
"I'll try, but I'm not making any guarantees." Magnus steps back so that Demetrius can enter the loft. He gestures to the bar, "Help yourself."
Demetrius walks in and goes to the bar. He pours vodka into a glass and drinks it.
Magnus mouths "Behave" to Maxine as he walks into his office. Maxine giggles.
Demetrius refills his glass as he watches Magnus go into his office. He points the glass at Maxine, "What are you doing?"
Maxine refrains from rolling her eyes, "I'm studying."
"Studying? Why?"
"I have a test tomorrow."
"You mean like a mundane?"
"Yes, I go to a mundane school."
"But you're blue."
This time Maxine does roll her eyes, "I have a glamour."
"But why go to all the trouble? You're a warlock, you don't need a mundane education."
She shakes her head, "I'm done talking to you."
He puts the glass on the bar, then walks to the kitchen table. He stands over Maxine, "You need to learn your place, girl."
Her eyes widen as she stares up at him, then she glances to her left. A seraph blade appears under Demetrius' chin. He looks to his right and sees two cold hazel eyes glaring at him.
Alec coldly says, "Step away from my daughter."
"Your daughter? I thought she was Magnus' daughter."
"I said, step away from her. I will not say it a third time."
"Fine, I'll do as you say," Demetrius sneers, "Shadowhunter." As he takes a step back, he raises his hands.
"If you want to live to see tomorrow, Demetrius, I would think before doing something stupid."
Demetrius sees Magnus, with an energy ball in his hand, standing by his office door. Demetrius lowers his hands, "I wasn't going to do anything."
Magnus nods, "No, you weren't." Without taking his eyes off Demetrius, he says, "Maxine, go with Daddy and finish studying in the Institute."
She nods as she closes her books and puts them in her bookbag, "Okay, Poppa."
Alec glares at Demetrius, "Magnus..."
His husband nods, "You go, I will handle this."
"Fine." Alec lowers the seraph blade and returns it to his holster.
Maxine stands, puts the bookbag on her shoulder then holds Alec's hand, "Ready Daddy?"
Alec looks at Magnus, who nods, "Go."
Alec glares at Demetrius then smiles at his daughter, "Poppa says 'go', so we go."
Maxine giggles as she opens a portal. Alec continues to glare at their visitor as he and Maxine walk into the portal and leave the loft.
Magnus watches as the portal closes behind his husband and daughter, then coldly glares at his visitor, "Demetrius, you come to my home, threaten my daughter, threaten my husband, tell me why I shouldn't blast your ass?"
"I gave you $2000."
Magnus sniffs, "Try again."
"I didn't do a damn thing to your daughter, that Shadowhunter was overreacting."
Magnus' cat's eyes appear, "Maybe, maybe not, but I saw you getting ready to do harm to him."
"So, you're married to that Shadowhunter? Please tell me you are joking."
"Does it look like I'm joking?"
Demetrius laughs, "You married your pet Shadowhunter."
Magnus tosses a vial at the other warlock, "Here's your potion. Now get the fuck out of my home. I don't want to see you again."
Demetrius easily catches the vial, "I appreciate it."
"I said leave."
Demetrius bows, "Of course." He opens a portal. He gives Magnus a smug smile then walks into the portal.
Magnus glares at the portal as it closes. He takes a few deep breaths as the energy ball disappears from his hand and his eyes go brown. He isn't going to let Demetrius ruin their plans for today.
Maxine was going to study while Magnus found something to do until it was time to meet up with Alec, who was going to the Institute to get caught up on the weekend's activities. With Alec and Maxine already at the Institute, Magnus is going to work on the crossword puzzle while relaxing with a cup of tea. Once he's done, he'll gather his husband and daughter and they will go to the aquarium as originally planned.
Magnus walks into the kitchen.

Magnus steps out the portal into the War Room.
After finishing the crossword puzzle and enjoying two cups of tea, he has put Demetrius out of his mind. He smiles as he walks through the room. Maxine is at a back table.
As he gets close enough to see what his daughter is doing, he laughs, "Maxine, you are supposed to be studying, not drawing runes."
Maxine giggles as she turns to her father, "Poppa, I'm all studied out and I needed something else to do." She puts her notebook and pen in her bookbag then zips it up.
Magnus laughs. He looks around then pulls out a chair and sits down. He gently says, "It's okay if you were scared."
Maxine rolls her eyes, "Scared of a lazy warlock? Please, Poppa."
"No, not Demetrius. I meant, scared of Daddy."
She giggles, "Me scared of Daddy? Why would I be scared of Daddy?"
"He had the seraph blade close to you."
"So?"
"I just want you to understand that Daddy wasn't going to hurt you."
Maxine giggles, "Silly, Poppa. Of course Daddy isn't going to hurt me. Never thought that he would. Never ever will think that he will."
Magnus smiles, "Okay, I guess I am being silly." Maxine nods. He holds her face in both hands and kisses her nose, "I love you, blueberry."
She hugs him, "I love you, silly Poppa."
Magnus laughs, "Ok then. Let's get Daddy, and get this show on the road." He stands up.
Maxine nods as she also stands. She flicks her hand and her bookbag disappears. She reaches for her father's hand, "Penguins, here we come."
Magnus nods as they walk to the elevators. One arrives and they get in. Maxine pushes the floor for Alec's office and the elevator door closes. The elevator goes up.
It stops on the second floor and an unfamiliar Shadowhunter is standing there. He glares at Magnus as he steps in. He pushes 10, moves to the side then stares at Maxine.
She and Magnus glance at each other silently as the elevator doors close and the elevator rises.
The elevator stops on the fourth floor and Jace steps in. He glances at the Shadowhunter and nods, "Preston." The Shadowhunter silently nods back. Jace smiles at his niece, "Maxine."
She giggles and puts her arms around her uncle's waist. Magnus watches Preston out the corner of his eye, as Jace hugs his blue skinned niece. The other Shadowhunter's look of disgust has Magnus narrowing his eyes.
Jace sees Magnus' reaction and looks at Preston, while still holding Maxine, "Is there a problem?"
Preston shakes his head, "No sir."
"Good. Maybe in Oregon you can be nasty to warlocks, but here in New York, we treat all Downworlders with respect. Do you understand me?"
Preston nods, "Yes, sir."
"Good, especially when the warlocks in question are the Head's husband and daughter."
Preston's jaw drops, "Excuse me, sir?"
Maxine presses her face against her uncle's chest as she giggles. Magnus doesn't cover his smirk.
Jace nods, "You heard what I said. Do not let me hear about you disrespecting anyone. I will personally kick your ass back to Oregon. Do I make myself clear?"
Preston nods as the elevator stops on the sixth floor, "Yes, sir." He runs off the elevator, pushing past Izzy.
She looks after him then steps in the elevator, "What happened?"
Maxine giggles as she hugs her aunt, "Uncle Jace happened."
Izzy kisses the top of Maxine's head, "Oh?"
Jace nods, "He had an issue with me hugging Maxine."
Magnus sniffs, "He had an issue as soon as he got on the elevator."
Maxine giggles, "He didn't want warlock cooties."
Izzy sniffs, "Then he's in the wrong Institute."
Magnus nods, "He found that out."
Jace nods, "I'm surprised you didn't say something."
Magnus shrugs, "We already had drama this morning, I just want to get Alec and go."
"Yes, he told me."
Maxine giggles, "A love potion."
Izzy laughs, "Maybe Preston should get one as well."
Magnus sniffs, "Preston needs more than a potion to find love." Maxine giggles.
Jace laughs, "Even with a map he would be lost."
The elevator stops. Magnus smiles, "This is us."
"Have fun."
"I'm counting on it." Magnus, Maxine and Izzy step off the elevator and walk down the hallway to Alec's office. Maxine and Izzy hold hands as they follow Magnus.
Izzy chuckles, "Magnus, did a warlock actually show up wanting to pay you to make him a love potion rather than do it himself?" Maxine giggles.
Magnus nods, "That he did. That's why I charged him $2000."
Izzy whistles, "Damn. I hope you never charged Mom and Dad that much for stuff when they were Heads."
Magnus chuckles, "Oh I gave them a discount, considering their son was staying at my loft free of charge."
Maxine sniffs, "Bad Poppa."
Magnus stops and turns around, "Why would you call me that, blueberry?"
"You gonna charge Daddy rent when he was only a boy?"
"I was being funny."
"Bad. Poppa."
Magnus shakes his head as he turns back and resumes walking, "Whatever, Maxine."
"Whatever, Poppa."
Izzy laughs, "You two always seem to have the most intellectual conversations."
Maxine sniffs, "Bad Aunt Izzy." She lets go of Izzy's hand.
"Hey, what did I do?"
"You know what you did."
Magnus laughs as he walks into Alec's office, "Sorry, Izzy. You're on your own." Alec smiles as Magnus walks over and kisses him.
Alec raises an eyebrow as his sister and daughter walk in, "What happened?"
Maxine walks over and kisses Alec's cheek, "Aunt Izzy being rude."
Izzy puts her hands on her hips, "Rude?"
"Uh huh."
Alec shakes his head, "I don't want to hear about. All I want to do right now is watch pretty fish swim around. Nothing more dramatic than that." He stands up.
Maxine looks up at her father, "Penguins, Daddy."
He nods, "Yes, I'll handle some peaceful penguins as well. But if they start arguing, I will not be pleased."
Maxine giggles, "Silly Daddy." She puts her hand in Alec's.
Magnus folds his arms, "Hey, I was here first."
"So?"
"So, I get to hold Daddy's hand."
Maxine rolls her eyes, "Daddy has two hands, silly Poppa."
Alec shakes his head, "No drama, you two."
Izzy laughs, "Get out of here, I have an Institute to run."
Alec nods, "You all heard the boss, let's go." He reaches for Magnus' hand as he and Maxine walk around the desk.
Magnus opens a portal and the three of them leave the office. Izzy smiles as she sits behind Alec's desk.

Later that night, Maxine went to bed early. Magnus and Alec are sitting on the sofa watching the ten o'clock news.
Alec laughs, "I still can't believe a warlock paid $2000 for a love potion."
Magnus shrugs, "He did."
"And he didn't say anything?"
"He made a slight comment, but forked over the money."
"And he wanted a rush job?"
"Yes, Alexander."
"And that doesn't seem odd to you?"
"Odd?"
Alec nods, "More like suspicious."
Magnus sighs, "Demetrius and I have a bit of history."
"Oh?"
"I threw him out during a warlock meeting a few years ago."
"Why?"
"He has a problem with Shadowhunters."
"Yeah, I got that."
"Actually he was giving his opinion after I had gone into the hallway to talk to you on the phone."
"Oh?"
"Yes, I heard shouting so I ran back in. Catarina had him five feet in the air and was threatening to throw him off the balcony."
Alec laughs, "Catarina is awesome."
"She's quite protective of you."
Alec deadpans, "Right, she's protective. So what did you do?"
"Got her to lower him back to the floor then I told him to get out."
"And?"
"That's it. Never saw him again, until he showed this morning."
Alec nods, "And we are talking how many years ago?"
Magnus sighs, "I think you were eleven or twelve at the time."
Alec's eyes widen, "That's a long time ago."
Magnus nods, "Maybe he figures I've forgotten about it."
"Seems even more suspicious." Magnus starts kissing Alec's neck. Alec sighs, "Are you trying to distract me?"
Magnus kisses Alec's lips then purrs, "Maybe." He kisses the love rune, "Is it working?"
"Yes."
"Good."
They stand up. Magnus turns off the television and sets the wards while Alec turns off the lights. Holding hands, they walk to their bedroom.

If Demetrius thought Catarina and Magnus were 'overprotective' of Alec, in the next fanfic I'm working on, he returns to the loft and meets 'the apprentice'.
And we all know how protective Mikey is of his Daddy. What could go wrong for Demetrius?
As for Preston, yes he will be dealt with as well in a future fanfic.
