Eight years later...
"Please, welcome to the arena... Mario!"
The plumber's trophy fell to the ground before glowing and reviving himself.
"And his opponent, the pink Hero of Popstar, Kirby!"
The pink marshmallow's trophy fell from the sky and revived before he touched the ground and waved his stubs to the audience.
From their special seating area, the two princesses and Aurora watched the two Smashers fight.
Since the eight years passed, the village was beginning to apply technology from the advanced Smashers' dimension. Hence the flying arena that were on right now. Aurora had an even better idea to house the Smashers and the ever growing recruitments.
A mansion and a HQ.
The mansion was crafted with the help of Aurora, Ness, Mewtwo, and Mario (due to his craftsmanship). It was big, but there was room for improvement in case new fighters came around.
The HQ was were they could monitor events and train. It was equipped with state of the art technology (at least from the technologically advanced Smashers). This helped with trying to find Bowser and Ganondorf since they had snuck off. The characters from the Mario and Legend of Zelda universes were uncomfortable with the two biggest recurring threats of their universe just waiting around. That's how they usually work. So all they could do was wait.
During the past eight years, a few Smashers had left Thanks to Lucian, he discovered that he could send Smashers home! Much to their relief. And he discovered he had a deep booming voice and gained the nickname, the Announcer.
Lucian was able to send a few Smashers home, being the following: Roy, Young Link -who got his name after being confused with Link numerous times-, Pichu, Mewtwo, and Doctor Mario.
But Lucian had released too much of his power, putting a strain on him. Not wanting to hurt their friend, the remaining Smashers decided to stay here for the time being until they could find a way to their dimensions again.
Lucian organized a small tournament to past the time. Mario and Kirby obviously are the finalists. Aurora, though, decided not to take action in the tournament. But she still kept up with the training to hone her skills and not become sloppy in case the hands ever came back.
Other Smashers were currently out, some having missions and others...
Had gone missing.
Pikachu had gone missing a few weeks ago and Mr. Game & Watch was gone, but earlier than Pikachu. Samus' armor had also gone missing, leaving her in her Zero Suit outfit, not that she minded. She had grown accustomed to fighting in this outfit with her Paralyzer.
Sensing a disturbance in the sky from HQ, Fox hopped in his Arwing, opting to take a look and search what was in the sky. Falco would have followed, but he had to get his Arwing fixed from an incident if you will.
Link, oddly, was searching for his Master Sword. He and Zelda had been reincarnated, much to their confusion. Link had a more medieval style and darker shade of green of tunic with some chainlink. Zelda had brown hair now and sported a purple and white dress. The other Smashers found this odd, but not too odd, since they had met his younger counterpart. Yoshi had went with him, wanting to go for a stroll.
Donkey Kong had found a jungle and made a new home for himself there. Lucian said there had been some issues near that area but the King of Swing assured him he would be fine.
Ness was going to check out an abandoned area as he sensed some sort of PSI energy there.
Marth had gone to an abandoned castle, the location having intrigued the prince.
The Ice Climbers made an attempt to finally climb the tallest mountain in the World of Trophies. The other Smashers didn't know why they wanted to do so but let them go for the time being.
Captain Falcon was going to check on this floating isle, but his two vehicles were going through maintenance at the moment.
Nervously, Luigi went to the plains to check out an anomaly. Steeling his resolve, he took off, ready and scared for what's to come.
These anomalies have been appearing recently and the Smashers had their work cut out for them.
But they would soon realize, something bigger is in play.
Kirby's trophy fell down, signaling his defeat. Mario approached the stand, reviving the Popstar hero. Kirby hopped up, looked around at the audience, and smiled.
"Good-a game, Kirby," Mario said, reaching out for a handshake. Kirby obliged by shaking it. The two Nintendo stars they waved to the crowd, acknowledging the the tournament was over...
Before Mario heard a rumbling sound in the air.
The clouds began to turn red and large aircraft began to appear, as if it brought the darkening atmosphere with it. The aircraft was none other than the Halberd, much to Kirby's shock.
A silt opened from below and released purple spores. Aurora's eyes widened in shock at this. The substance brought back unpleasant memories, especially from her first night in this world. The chimera and invasions before the first tournament brought nothing but pain and they had landed on the arena.
Unlike the creatures that spawned during those raids with such inhuman or monstrosities, these creatures were more...
Robotic and human like.
The creatures had green bodies, brown gloves and boots, a black face, and red eyes. Many began to appear from the clusters surrounding Mario and Kirby.
Without a minute to soon, the women went to help. Zelda performed Farore's Wind and Aurora generated two wind drifts to uplift her and Peach, who simply pulled out her parasol and floated down safely. Once all together, Aurora generated her infamous Light Staff and ready herself.
The creatures rushed out them, having strength in numbers. But they seemed to lack fighting experience. Different varieties soon began to spawn: a red version that spewed fire, one with a blaster and another with a odd boomerang shaped weapon. Even clouds with generators on their backs.
Each was dealt with in a quick manner. Mario and Kirby provided melee attacks such as punches and kicks, Zelda provided range with Din's Fire, and Peach floated to deal with clouds, with her hip or crown. Aurora blitzed through each and everyone of the spawns. She either cut them down with her Light Staff or simply batted them away.
After the final creature was defeated, the Smashers heard a hovering noise approach them. The noise came from a green robed figure with a large ball at the base. The figure dropped it and prompted the fighters to ready themselves.
But much to their surprise, two robots appeared and stuck their arms into the side of the ball. With their strength, they pulled it apart...
Revealing a black hole and a timer. The robed figure took its leave shortly after.
Mario stared with shock at it. They only had a few minutes left!
Mario dashed over to stop the bomb's detonation, but an earthquake made him stop in his tracks. Turning around, he was met with a cannonball. It sent him flying into the clouds.
Kirby and Aurora made in attempt to locate him, but were interrupted.
"AHHHHH!"
The scream came from Peach while Zelda looked distraught. They had been captured... again. The holder of the cages was none other than the botanical monster of Petey Piranha. The plant let out a roar while Kirby and Aurora readied themselves.
After a long battle, Petey exploded. Aurora, Zelda, and Kirby all landed safely...
But another thump caught their attention. They saw a pudgy yet muscular man dressed with purple overalls, a yellow shirt, and a yellow hat with a "W" on it. But he had a dark black cannon that was aimed at the three. The man chuckled. "Hiyah, I'm-a Wario! And I shall be your kidnapper today! WAHAHAHA!" the newly identified Wario said manically. But his attention shifted to another Smasher...
Princess Peach.
Deciding to take the recovering princess out, he aimed his cannon and fired a black arrow. Said arrow struck right through the princess' torso and reverted to her trophy. Wario hopped over, taking his universe's princess and left.
The three Smashers hurried over, Zelda in the lead, but Aurora and Kirby noticed how the timer was almost done. Both fighters panicked what was the void does...
BOOM*
The void began to expand, consuming everything in its domain. The audience, the arena, everything within the arena consumed...
...
...
...
... except for three shapes.
Kirby rode his Warp Star with Zelda, clutching for dear life and Aurora, using her air manipulation to glide herself. They escaped and had a new goal: to reach the Halberd and save Peach.
Kirby and Zelda zoomed across the Sea of Clouds with the Halberd trailing behind them.
Aurora was attempting to blast through the hull, but proved ineffective. She was concentrating on using her fire and light while in the air, which was a bit difficult as she was not used to using three of her powers.
ZOOM!
Aurora stopped her attack and saw an Arwing fly by her. She smiled, Fox to the rescue!
Her celebration was short lived when a claw shot from the airship bashed into the aircraft and sent it plummeting...
With Zelda and Kirby falling off.
Aurora decided to save her friends rather than attack the Halberd. Using her propulsion, she jetted towards her falling friends. Knowing Fox would be alright, she caught Zelda and Kirby before landed in the Sea of Clouds.
After reaching a road in a forest shore, Kirby and Aurora took off leaving a confused Zelda. She asked for them to stop but a "thump" behind her made her turn around...
And come face to face with Bowser holding another dark cannon.
"Hello again, Princess..." Bowser smirked before firing the cannon.
After their misunderstanding duel, Mario and a young angel had defeated Link and Yoshi. Mario and the angel had battled an imposter Zelda who was about to ambush the bearer of the Triforce of Courage and dinosaur, but Link misunderstood the dilemma and rushed them, Yoshi following after.
"Whew, that was exhausting!" The angel said.
"Don't get comfortable-a Pit. We need to rev-" Mario started before hearing a vehicle approaching them.
Mario and Pit turned to the vehicle which was yellow and carried an all too familiar logo. The former also got a glance of his lover, much to his surprise.
The driver of the vehicle, which seemed like a penguin in red robes, had the grapple reach and grab the two trophies.
"Score!" The penguin said.
But his expression turned to shock when he saw his nemesis/sometimes ally.
Kirby slashed with Final Cutter on the grapple and Aurora had appeared from her position, having used her plant manipulation to hide, freeing the two trophies.
Yoshi landed with a plop and Link landed with a more ready stance as he drew his bow and arrow. He fired it at the charging vehicle and driver. The vehicle whizzed by before the engine burst, leaving a damaged vehicle.
Mario and Pit hurried first, Kirby and Aurora followed, and Link second to last as Yoshi lagged briefly behind.
The team all charged through any enemies that appeared. Link, Pit, and Aurora hacked and slashed, Mario and Kirby pummeled, and Yoshi ate and threw eggs.
After the chase through the forest coast, they came across the vehicle and a cave.
"So, I'm guessing this is where the bird went," Aurora commented.
"Any else get a glimpse of the other trophies he had?" Pit questioned.
"Not sure, but I saw Wario's logo on the side of the cart. I bet my fruit that he's on whatever that imposter Zelda is in," Yoshi interjected.
"He is. That greedy man showed up on the arena after me and Kirby defeated this monstrous plant. Shot Peach with some kind of cannon that turned her into a trophy. Looks like he was rounding up others," Aurora commented.
"I saw Peach, Ness, and Luigi on the cart," Link said. "And sorry about before with the imposter Zelda, Mario and Pit, correct?"
"Hehe," Pit said sheepishly, "Yeah, that's me. Man, you are tough, Mister Link."
"Formalities aside-a, we got some friends to save," Mario said. Everyone nodded in agreement and headed in.
After traversing the cave and battling minor enemies, they came across a castle.
Said castle was in shambles. There was nothing but rumble, and no trophies were present.
A hole about of the size of a certain enemy was noticed and the team readied themselves.
Bowser hurried his way on the cliff, holding the Princess he kept kidnapping. He turned around and saw his rival, readying himself to punch him.
Bowser held the trophy in front of him as a shield. Mario mentally cursed, diving his fist in the ground inside. The plumber hopped back to Pit, who fired an arrow. Bowser dodged the projectile near a cliff, where he struggled to reclaim his ground. Unfortunately he fell...
...
Into his Clown Car.
"Bwahahaha! See you losers later! I've got some more capturing to do!" The Koopa King boasted before taking off to the Halberd.
Mario, Link, Pit, Yoshi and Aurora grunted in anger while Kirby was observing something. He inhaled, so it was probably food. The six heroes needed to take a new action to find this threat.
Pit fired his arrow at the Ancient Minister, which missed even if it was distracted. Link and Mario appeared side by side the angel as the Ancient Minister took off. Yoshi, Kirby, and Aurora appeared soon after, and the six heroes took off.
The Ancient Minister fired lasers from what could only be assumed its base at the wielder of Triforce of Courage and Jumpman. Both Nintendo stars dodged them in quick session before the same robots that detonated the Subspace Bombs appeared. One even jumped to catch the bomb on the Ancient Minister's base, which fell and killed it in the process.
Two robots nodded and pulled it apart. Aurora briefly noticed a look of sadness in the robed figure's yellow eyes as it fled. Mario and Pit did everything to combat the attached robots, but they were restrained by the other robots.
And then BOOM.
The Subspace hole opened up and began to expanding, killing the robots in the process. Yoshi sprinted with amazing speed as Mario rode him, Kirby's Warp Star occupied him, Link, and Pit, and Aurora created an Earth erected slide for herself. They all managed to escape the bomb in the Wilds, but were unsure of what to do now.
Seeing the Halberd and Great Fox collide with the mountain drew their attention. The six heroes rushed towards the two aircrafts and saw the flood of Shadow Bugs pouring out. The looked over the desert and saw some familiar and unfamiliar faces battling the Primids and Subspace Army. Deciding to go help, the heroes readied themselves.
Mario ignited his fists.
Link ready his Master Sword.
Pit split his Palutena's Bow into blades.
Kirby perked up.
Yoshi realized he was going to fight.
And Aurora pointed her staff towards the war zone...
Before they all jumped off ready to fight.
Marth was among the fighters battling the army when he noticed them. "Nana, Popo, we have allies!" The prince acknowledged the Ice Climbers. The duo just finished their Blizzard attack and saw the approaching allies while jumping with joy.
"These allies you speak of, will they aid us?" A muscular swordsman asked.
"Yes, Ike. Trust me, they are a force to be reckoned with," Marth reassured.
The six incoming heroes punched, kicked, hacked, and slashed nonstop with the army. A boy with blonde stopped his psychic attacks as he watched them mow down the army. "Wow, they look strong!" He said in awe.
"Glad they are on our side," another boy wearing in a red jacket and cap commented. He then pulled out three red and white balls and returned his three creatures: a blue turtle with a squirrel like tail, a green dinosaur with leaves and a pink closed flower, and an orange dragon with the tip of his tail of fire.
The bomb came unexpected. The entire isle had been engulfed in it.
Roaring in the skies could be heard. And the fighters turned to see a Falcon themed aircraft. The newcomers were confused, but the veterans knew that this was a good sign.
Another roar could be heard and the Halberd landed near them. All fighters readied themselves if anything was going to appeared.
But surprisingly their allies popped out of the supposed evil aircraft. There was Fox, Falco, Peach, Zelda, Mr. Game & Watch, and three newcomers. A man in a gray stealth jumpsuit, a blue humanoid jackal, and a masked individual with a cap and the size of Kirby.
The cockpit of the Falcon Flyer opened and revealed the same. Samus in her armor, Pikachu, Donkey Kong, Captain Falcon, a brown monkey with a red cap, a short astronaut, and a robot...
That looked familiar to the ones that have been detonating the bombs. Could one have defected?
Introductions were made rather quickly and notes were compared, before a massive cannon emerged from the void.
"Fellas, we got company," the agent -Snake- said.
Everyone turned to the cannon with fear and surprise at the size.
"...Alright, we need to take that cannon down," Aurora spoke up.
"How-a are we supposed-a to that?" Mario asked, in shock of the cannon.
"Yeah. No offense, Light chick but I doubt even the Great Fox could even get to it and blast through. And it's still damaged from the fight against Kirby with a mask and his warship," Falco added.
"My Falcon Flyer has enough gas, but I for one don't want to see what that cannon can shoot," Captain Falcon said. The other fighters with space ships (Samus, the astronaut -Olimar-, and Fox) agreed to that.
Aurora thought for a while. Of course, the cannon was huge but they needed to stop it before anything troublesome happened. They she got an idea...
"Fire."
The cannon began to charge up before unleashing a large blast of energy. The blast hit the horizon before creating a new orb of Subspace.
Ganondorf smirked and Bowser laughed. Now they had the power to create Subspace at well. "BWAHAHA! That will show those heroes!" Bowser boasted. Their goals were almost possible.
"I doubt it will. I have battled Link constantly. He and those other heroes will no doubt be coming for us," Ganondorf commented before eying the horizon.
The Scrouge of Hyrule snarled as he saw the Halberd flying at them. Of course, they had commandeered the warship. No matter.
"Fire at the Halberd."
Turrets began to rise up and blast the ship with everything. The Halberd was doing well at first, but then the turret was able to blast bits and parts of the infamous ship. And one shot right through the entire ship. The blast caused it to break down and finally explode...
Before four ships appeared. Smaller ships.
"What?!" Bowser snarled. Ganondorf shared the same look, before commanding more turrets to strike the four ships he saw.
What he didn't see was Kirby and Aurora flying on the Dragoon. Aurora summoned the light necessary for that much speed and visibly cut through the cannon. The weapon began to explode, now that it was destroyed from within.
Ganondorf calmly seethed with anger before returning into Subspace with Bowser following him, to avoid being caught in the explosion. The now five ships made their way in to Subspace, the Holocate lagging behind.
After departing the ships, each protagonist readied themselves for what was to come.
The Smashers came across a horrible sight. Bowser and Ganondorf had been reverted to trophies and Master Hand laid seemingly dead thanks to the blue human like Wire Frame from the looks of it. Mario shot a glare at the threat, but he didn't seem fazed by it.
"Greeting Smashers. I applaud you for getting this far, but you're efforts are now rendered useless," the being spoke. "For now, I have all of you right where I want you. And you are in my domain."
"So you took down Master Hand, big whoop! We have beaten him before just like we will beat you!" Captain Falcon boasted.
"Such folly thinking. I am not like Master Hand. I'm more..." the threat started before conjuring a pair of butterfly wings and glowing.
"...Prepared."
In a second, the butterfly wings released a pattern of waves that struck each Smasher. Everyone was reverted to their trophy forms and laid on the ground. Lifeless...
...
...
...
...
Except one.
Aurora came to, the impact surprisingly had not taken her out for some reason.
"Interesting. You were immune to my Off Waves," the being commented.
"H-h-how?" Aurora asked.
"It matters not. You know I have been watching you for some time now. And more than that, I know what you can do."
"W-w-what?"
"Your powers, heritage, where you come from, everything in between. Even your destiny."
"Destiny?"
"My dear sweet user of light..." he said, "You truly have no idea who or what you are."
"I know who I am." She said defiantly.
"The name of Aurora is just a title by your lover, Lucian. What you are is beyond even the lords of this realm."
Having heard enough, Aurora leaped up to kill the figure. She planned on plunging her Light Staff through this threat, saying he knew her story, destiny even. No. It felt like she knew her destiny herself, but it also feels like she had this conversation before but she didn't know where.
"RAHHHHH!"
"Futile ef-" the being started before his shield shattered from the weapon and barely dodged the attack. His expression was monotone but inside, he was shocked. Not even Master Hand was this powerful.
Fearing what comes next, the being shot a chain that wrapped around the girl, restricting her. She struggled to get free, but the chain began to multiply, constricting her to the point she fell unconscious.
"A-aur- Aurora? Aurora! AURORA!"
Aurora began to awakened and was met with a familiar face.
"L-Luigi?"
"Oh thank the Star Spirits! You're alive!" The green plumber said before hugging her. Aurora returned the hug when another joined in. "Ness!" She cried. "How are you two free from your trophies?"
"It was thank to these," Ness said, pulling out a yellow medal with a face on it. "King Dedede calls them, Dedede Brooches. He said that they can help revive us."
"King Dedede?" Aurora questioned.
"Oh yeah. He's currently fighting Bowser."
Aurora turned to the fight, which she saw the same red robed penguin, who she presumed to be King Dedede. He slammed his hammer in the jaw of the Koopa King who seems in rage. The impact caused him to revert back into a trophy.
"Hmph. And he calls himself a king," the self declared King said before turning his attention to the light user. "Ah! You must be Aurora!"
Aurora nodded at acknowledgment. "So you created those Dedede Brooches?" "Well, I can't take all the credit. My minions helped craft them and find the frequency that can revert the wearer back to life. I made three of them but I don't know what happened to the third one," Dedede smugly said.
"Interesting," she said. "So did you find any of the other fighters?"
"I think about-a half of them," Luigi said aloud, "they mentioned this powerful blue being-a that resembled a Wire Frame back in the melee days and went off into that cluster of worlds." He motioned towards the stairs towards the destination.
"Well, we need all heads on deck, so..." King Dedede said before touching Bowser's base again. The Koopa King rose up and let out a roar before being slapped in his jaw. "What the heck, bird!?" Bowser angrily said. King Dedede motioned towards the unmoving appendage of Master Hand.
This made Bowser sulk down. Tricked again by the Hand, no way Mario and Green Stache were going to let him live this down. Maybe he should consider becoming a Smasher himself...
Dedede broke him out his stupor with the mention of the destination. The Great Maze...
Kirby approached the fallen trophy of Ganondorf before Bowser bashed it away. "GRAHAHA!"
"TAKE THIS!"
"AND THIS!"
"HOW ABOUT THIS!"
Bowser continued to toy with the trophy before getting all the anger out of his system. After cooling down, he made his way to the Great Maze.
Kirby's confused expression was interrupted with his nemesis, hugged him. "Kirby, you sly Waddle Dee!"
Aurora watched the interaction with surprise. Most interactions she had seen with enemies were hostile but perhaps these two were different, which was more than she can say about the interaction she was about to witness.
She then saw Link and Zelda approach their frozen third half. "Are you sure about this?" Link asked. Zelda nodded, "I may not be on board with him around, but we need all the help we can get," before tapping the base.
Ganondorf was greeted with two faces, much to his hate. "What do you t-" he started before Link interrupted him with pointing at the Great Maze. "Like or not, we have a combined goal now. Help us, this can be a one time thing," Zelda stated before the two bearers of the good part of the Triforce walked toward the stairs of the Great Maze.
Ganondorf secretly clutched his fist in anger, dark magic pulsing. He grit his teeth, he was used again. The dark warlock spared a quick glance at Aurora, slightly unnerving the girl. Ganondorf merely dismissed her recoiling and left to deal with the being. Aurora soon followed afterwards, deciding to finally aid in the battle.
"Well, well..." Tabuu said, hovering over all the gathered fighters again. With the likes of Ganondorf, Bowser, King Dedede, Luigi, Ness, and Wario now in their ranks, they could surely defeat the threat they learned was Tabuu.
"You have bested your copies, the champions, battled every enemy I have created, and traversed my Great Maze," Tabuu recalled, "I'm almost impressed."
Then the blue being began to reform his butterfly wings, "However, this time I will make sure that you stay trophies. All of you." He snarled before charging up his Off Waves...
Only for them to shatter.
Tabuu howled in pain as a blue ball spun through them. The ball swerved around before ramming into Tabuu's wings shattered them as a whole.
The ball eventually uncurled itself revealing it to be a blue, bipedal hedgehog with white gloves and red sneakers. "Ha! Nice try... for whatever you are doing!" The hedgehog exclaimed in a seemingly cocky tone as he wagged his finger.
"Jeez, do you ever not boast about your speed?" A gruffly voice said. Three shadows leaped from their positions. One was Jigglypuff, who had a determined expression on her face. The other two was a bipedal gray wolf dressed with a blue assault vest and a cartoon version of Link.
"Wolf?!" Fox exclaimed before his rival noticed him and smirked. "Well, McCloud. My surprise that you are here," Wolf O'Donnell remarked.
"Why is there another version of me..." Link muttered.
"ENOUGH!" Tabuu shouted before glowing and causing his wings to break off. Introductions would have to wait.
All the Smashers and the three newcomers turned their attention and readied themselves.
Tabuu's scream echoed from the void for Subspace. The void itself began to shrivel and shrink. The Smashers all made their way out of there before finding themselves on a cliff.
Glad they won, the protagonists and even the four antagonists cheered and smiled respectively. Mario, Link, Ness, and Fox made sure that their rivals stayed this time (Ness, Lucas, and Red harboring some resentment towards Wario due to the abduction).
Aurora was glad that Tabuu and the terror of Subspace was gone...
But she pondered what Tabuu said about her.
Destiny? History? Her birth/creation? What did that Wire Frame know? Part of her was glad he was gone...
But part of her secretly wished he stayed and explained.
It moved in a group. It wanted out. It was lucky to escape the void when it did. But it needed a disguise.
Searching, it found its form...
The prone form of Master Hand.
If it could cackle, it would have. The black particles entered the appendage, getting a feel for its new "body."
Master Core had full control of Master Hand. It forms shifted, each wanting control of Master Hand. Core silenced them, the orb only wanting to control the God like figure of this realm.
Those Smashers were a threat... but Core was more than ecstatic to show these Smashers true power.
