DarkFoxKit: *Giggles as she gets closer to a very relaxed Andy on the couch, and a certain dragoness. Once she was close enough, she pulled the cord of a party popper, which caused Andy to yelp and fall off the couch* Happy New Year!
Andy: *Is laying on the floor* Wasn't that two weeks ago?!
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': *Giggles a little, cleaning some of the confetti off of her* I think it's fine to celebrate it now, since this is the first post of 2021 from Fox and I. Besides, it gives me a reason to make some party food and some cake.
Andy: Did you have to use a party popper so close to me though?
DarkFoxKit: Yes, cause I wanted to see how funny your reaction would be. And it was hilarious~
Andy: *Grumbles and mutters stuff under his breath*
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': Do either of you have New Year's Resolutions? For me, I'd like to finally get my weight down a bit and maybe, once the Crown is hopefully done, do a little bit of travelling.
Andy: The Crown?
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': Coronavirus. Corona is Spanish for Crown.
DarkFoxKit: I don't usually have New Year's Resolutions. What I'd like to do with myself is more of a life goal.
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': While you might not normally have any resolutions, do you have any goals you would like to achieve that are obtainable?
Andy: I can think of a few things…
DarkFoxKit: Those goals are kind of private… *Pouts a tiny bit* How about we let our readers get on to the chapter?
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': *Chuckles* Well as long as you have some goals, that's fine. *Looks to the camera* I hope all of you had a great New Year and hope this next year is better than the last.
Chapter 101: Searching for a Madman
There were a lot of interesting questions and answers this Andy wrote out for me on the notepad he had handed me. There was a question that asked 'How did you survive the Void?' and the answer that came with it was 'I never gave up on myself, and found a goal to keep myself sane.'. There was another one that asked 'How did you and Juliette meet?' and the answer was 'At Amity Park's beach, she was washed up by the ocean through the lakes… Trust me, don't question it, nobody is entirely sure how it happened without her drowning.'. 'How different is this world compared to mine?' was answered by 'It's both very different yet the same. It's a bit complicated to answer.'.
'Those are the questions that I could answer. Though there is one last piece of info that I can give you. If you want to hear it.' The other Andy had written at the bottom.
"I mean I'll take any info you're willing to give, my curiosity has peaked… even though you can't hear me right now… unless you're seeing this in a vision or something," I chuckled to myself before turning the page.
There was nothing on the next page besides 'You may want to answer the door.'.
Seconds after I had finished reading that, there was a knock on the door.
"Andy?" Juliette spoke up softly. "You there?"
I couldn't help but pout a little, but closed the notebook. It was clear this Andy had control over his future visions, making me wish I could do that with my own. I got up from the bed I was laying on while reading the notebook, and walked over to the door before opening it. Juliette was back in her original goat girl form.
Juliette waved a little when I opened the door. "Hey, Andy. I know it's getting late, but I wanted to see if you wanted me to change you back or not."
"Oh, yeah," I chuckled sheepishly, remembering that I was currently an adult anthro fox.
"You sure? You seem to have gotten pretty comfy~" Juliette lightly teased.
I pouted a little. "Well… maybe I should stay like this until we get back to our world. You never know, Danny could suddenly come in here for whatever reason. Better he saw me as an adult fox than Andy, right? Oh, I almost forgot… you didn't see him, but we were visited by the other me of this world."
"Oh?" Juliette raised a brow before frowning. "Did he seem… completely there? Rose did mention how he was in the Void for a while, which could affect him mentally."
"He seemed alright to me. I mean I did notice that he's a lot more melancholic than I am, but we seem pretty similar to each other," I remarked.
"No… creepy vibes? No evilness?" Juliette questioned.
"No, I didn't notice any. I don't… think he's like the Andy from the last world, but he definitely has a lot going on in his head, that's for sure," I sighed.
Then I remembered something from the last world, something I had forgotten about since we got here. "Juliette, do you remember that gasmask from the last world? The one the other Andy we called Echo made me wear? Is that still in my pants pocket?"
"Uhhh… I don't know?" Juliette replied. "Maybe? You'd have to check when I transform you back. Though… you seem to like the fur. Perhaps it would be best to wait until morning to change you back. Or, if you're worried about the gas mask, wait until we get back to our world."
"I did say it would be best if I stayed this was just in case we got unexpected visitors," I agreed. "At least it's easier getting used to this body than the bird. I have actual hands. As for the gas mask, that's something I'll have to take a look at when we get home. I remember feeling very energetic the longer I wore it… I don't think that gas mask is normal."
Juliette nodded.
"The other Andy said he'll come by tomorrow, we likely have a big day ahead of us," I said a little softly. "That means it's likely we either win… or lose this game tomorrow."
"Maybe not tomorrow," Juliette replied. "Try to relax and not fill your head with stress, Andy. It'll disrupt your sleep and you won't be on your best game."
"Heh… I'll try, but no promises," I chuckled lightly. "Hope you have a good rest for the night, Juliette."
Juliette nodded. "Just a tip, since you have such a large tail, try to hug it to your body. It'll be uncomfortable to lay on top of."
"Thanks for the advice," I said gratefully.
"Goodnight, Andy, I hope you sleep well." Juliette waved before she left the room, closing the door behind her.
As I was laying in bed, hugging my tail close to my body, I couldn't help but notice how… quiet it was. I feel like I was missing someone… I didn't like this feeling of emptiness. I tried to close my eyes and sleep, but the same empty feeling kept bugging me.
I tried to ignore it though. I needed to sleep. However, my mind began to wander. How's my family and friends doing? How much time has gone by in my world? Are the Guys in White hurting them? Are they experimenting on Danny? Could we still win this game? What if we lose? Would things have been different if we had told our parents about us being half ghosts?
It was then I realized what was missing; Chad. I hadn't felt anything from Chad in a while. Usually he would try to calm me down if my mind started tumbling down a rabbit hole like this, but… there was nothing.
"You know… you're kinda lucky. You found your own person who will do whatever they can to help you, no matter what it costs them. For me, that was my Juliette. For you, it's yours. I'm not sure any other ghost would be willing to go to the extents that your Juliette has gone for you. She's helped you a number of times, followed you through thick and thin, and has done so much during this test of yours to help you. I bet you that she'd be willing to put her afterlife on the line for you."
I nearly jumped out of my bed when I heard the other Andy's voice. He was floating by my window in ghost form. "Give me a heart attack, why don't you!? Do you make a habit of sneaking into people's bedrooms in the middle of the night?"
"I technically never left," Andy responded, dodging the whole question. "That window I came through actually goes into a pocket dimension through some insane magic. I wanted to make sure you read the final page of the notebook before going to bed, as it will play a key part in what is coming."
"What? You mean answering the door?" I raised an eyebrow.
"That wasn't the final page," Andy informed. "I never said that one last piece of info was you needing to answer the door."
"Oh… I didn't think there was anything at the end of the notebook," I admitted. "But you know… this game Juliette and I are doing… I'm actually doing it for her. We could've gotten the Reality Gauntlet back from Freakshow without going through this complicated game of his, but he promised Juliette he would show her where her parents are if we won this game."
"Yeah? And Freakshow is a conman and a liar," Andy pointed out. "You should already know that he could find a technicality that allows him to just point in a general direction and say 'they're that way'. Or he could show her with… darker means."
I frowned. "I know… and I think Juliette does too. It was… a moment of weakness when she accepted it. But we're already too deep into the game to call it quits now."
"I no longer think she plans on seeing her parents just yet," Andy remarked. "I think now it's more a matter of getting the Reality Gauntlet and all the Gems from Freakshow. Perhaps with that, she plans on at least making sure that they're somewhere out there for her."
"Yeah, maybe… I just hope she gets something out of this," I sighed before I picked up the notebook I left on the nightstand.
"Technically you both have gotten something out of this," Andy pointedly replied as he flipped on the lights so I could see the notebook.
"What do you mean?" I questioned.
"You both have bonded with each other and to an extent, you have bonded with the Gems you are carrying," Andy answered.
I blushed at the reminder of the Gems that Juliette and I were currently… holding. "Oh… yeah, I guess that does count for something. Though it will be nice to get back to our family vacation and bond that way… and have the Gems outside of us."
Andy chuckled as I began to flip the notebook to the last page.
"Have you decided what you're gonna do with the Gems?" Andy questioned. "Or at least begun to think about your options?"
I was surprised at what I was seeing on the last page. These were drawings and instructions on how to use the Gem of Life and the Gem of Form to triangulate the Gem of Fantasy. It seemed that by syncing up the energies of two of the Gems while focusing on trying to find the third, a path would be shown to those seeking the final Gem. Now that I thought about it, it would make sense for the Gems to be connected to each other since they were supposed to work in sync with the Reality Gauntlet. And I wanted to smack myself for not thinking of this myself.
"It's… that easy?" I questioned, having forgotten what the other Andy had asked me earlier.
"Yep," Andy answered. "Now… have you thought about what you might want to do with all the Gems and the Reality Gauntlet after you've used it? If you do get your hands on it."
"Oh… well, I was thinking about giving the Reality Gauntlet, and its Gems, to Clockwork. He would have a better idea what to do with it, and keep it away from evil hands," I replied. "Destroying the gauntlet came to mind, but the Gems appear to be sentient, and I rather not destroy them like that. And there has to be a reason why the Reality Gauntlet existed in the first place."
"Are you sure you want to give them to your Clockwork though?" Andy inquired.
I blinked at the question. "Why wouldn't I? He's probably the best being I could think of to give such a powerful artifact to."
"Because he works for a group that might want to get their hands on the Reality Gauntlet," Andy answered.
I furrowed my eyebrows at that. It was hard to imagine Clockwork working for anyone, but I did remember him talking about his 'employers' before. "Then… who should I give the Reality Gauntlet to?"
"Who says you should give it to anyone in particular?" Andy asked.
"Uh… I'd rather not keep it, especially near my house, or anywhere in Amity Park. It'll just paint a big target on our town, which is already dealing with a lot of ghost attacks, mind you. And since the Guys in White made one of their bases there, the town is already taking quite a beating," I grumbled.
"There are places you could hide it," Andy informed. "And methods to hide the energies of the Gems and the Gauntlet itself."
I gave a sigh. "What I'll do with it after this whole thing will be something I'll worry about when I get to it. I rather take this one step at a time right now."
Then I gave the other Andy a curious look. "Wait, you said you never left… but that means you saw Juliette when she wasn't in disguise!"
"Yes and no," Andy replied. "I caught a small glimpse, but I was in the middle of the forest far away from the window. So it was a prolonged look at her. Besides, I was technically in an alternate dimension, so it doubly doesn't count."
"Uuugh…" I rubbed my furry head. "These stupid rules!"
"You know, since Freakshow wasn't very specific about those rules, it's also easy for us to find loopholes around them," Andy chuckled.
"Never play a game with Freakshow again…" I grumbled. "His rules make less sense than a child making up his own rules just to win in a game they made up…"
"At least you're sure of one thing; catching Freakshow means you'll win," Andy remarked.
"Yeah…" I looked up at the other me. "To be honest, I'd rather track him down right now, but Juliette will kill me if I took her out of her resting mode now."
"I believe she is actually asleep right now, likely because of all the energy she used," Andy guessed. "Though from what I gathered, my Juliette would be the one who would likely kill you. Your Juliette would be greatly upset and disappointed. Also, before you ask, seeing your Juliette in visions does not count as actually seeing her."
I paused at what I was about to say, before sighing. "Well that's good at least. Do you see us winning this game?"
"I see it's likely, but you're also likely to lose," Andy warned.
"Some future vision…" I grumbled before laying back down in the bed, plopping my head on the pillow. "... You're not going to… you know, watch me sleep or anything, are you?"
"Hmmm… probably not," Andy replied.
"... What do you mean probably? Do you make a habit of watching other people sleep too?" I groaned.
Andy shrugged before turning invisible. "Night, other dimension me."
"I better not wake up to you staring at me! Whether you're invisible or not!" I called out, unsure if he was still here or not.
Suffice to say, I didn't get that much of a restful sleep that night.
The morning sun came all too soon for me, yet also too slow. While this had probably been the most… relaxed dimension Juliette and I had been to, I was honestly tired of waking up in a world that was not my own, and remembering that my friends and family were locked up in some government facility, and my brother was likely getting experimented on. I just wanted this whole thing to be over soon… and in our favor, of course. And without Chad, I had nobody to mentally comfort me from my worried thoughts.
"Morning, Andy," Juliette's voice greeted as she walked into my room. "There's breakfast ready in the kitchen and I'll likely be altering my form after I eat."
"Great…" I gave a yawn. "We're going to have a few things to talk about during breakfast." Mainly how to use our Gems to try to track down the Gem of Fantasy.
"Oh?" Juliette tilted her head a little. "I guess I'll see you in the kitchen."
I told Juliette about what the other Andy said about using our gems to track down Freakshow's Gem of Fantasy while we were eating breakfast.
"Perhaps we could… combined the energies into the origami birds we're planning on sending out?" Juliette suggested. "Make them into tracking birds? They could also potentially keep track of the important people of this world so we can avoid them. I know you sent the bird out already, but we can either call them back or use our powers to add onto them."
"Yeah, they haven't been able to find Freakshow, but that was before we knew we could use our gems to track him," I remarked. "I'll call them back so we can tweak them a bit. They should definitely be helpful for keeping track of everyone too."
Then I paused for a moment. "How do I call them back again?"
Juliette scratched her chin just a little as she thought of how I would go about doing that. After she thought for a bit she chuckled. "Thinking about it, it's probably as easy as reaching out with the power of the Gem of Life and telling them to return."
I gave a nod to that. I was still not used to using the Gem of Life, but it wasn't too difficult to activate it. I focused on the Gem of Life, whom I had called Rhodonite. I could feel Rhodonite responding to me in a small flash of warmth. I could suddenly see the origami birds I had sent out before. I mentally told them to come back to me. The origami birds all turned in one direction before they began flying in that direction.
I opened my eyes and looked at Juliette. "The origami birds should be back here soon. Do you know of any windows that can be opened for them to fly through?"
"I can open up the back door that Rose showed me," Juliette offered. "Or the front doors. But I don't think there is any exterior window in this building. It's actually built somewhat like a fortress."
"Go ahead and open up any of the doors, the birds just need to be able to fly in," I stated.
Speaking of Rose, the anthro kitsune was making her way into the kitchen now.
"You two are up early today," Rose noted.
"We need to get back on track to capturing Freakshow and the last page," Juliette explained as she got up and started to head towards the hallway that led to the back door. "While it is nice to take a break and collect ourselves a little, we still need to remind ourselves that we are on a timer and there are people who are relying on us."
"So what is your plan on finding Freakshow?" Rose questioned.
"We got some advice from the other me of this world. According to him, Juliette and I can use both of our gems to try to track down Freakshow's Gem of Fantasy," I explained. "We're also hoping to use origami birds that I brought to life with R- with the Gem of Life to try to not only help track down Freakshow, but also keep an eye on where everyone we know are so we don't accidentally run into them."
"That sounds like a pretty good plan," Rose acknowledged. "Using what tactical assets you have in order to track down your target is always a surefire way to go. And also using said assets to stay away from the metaphorical landmines is also smart. Just don't make your creations too complex, otherwise they might develop free will."
"Thanks for the warning," I chuckled.
Not longer after Juliette opened the back door, the origami birds I had sent out all flew in. They all landed near me, whether it was on the table, on my chair, on the floor, or on my head. I hope they don't need to poo like real birds do...
Juliette walked over and looked at the birds. "So I need to infuse the Gem of Form's energy into the birds while we both give them the purpose to track down the Gem of Fantasy… at least that's what I think we have to do. Maybe we should try it with one first before we do it with all of them."
"Okay…" I picked up one of the origami birds and held it out to Juliette. "Try it with this one and see what happens."
Juliette gave a nod and extended a furry hand, specifically her right one, out towards the origami bird that I was holding out in front of her. She closed her eyes and began to concentrate, her right hand began to glow a soft yellow and that glow quickly extended itself to the origami bird. I noticed some yellow stripes appeared on the black origami bird, which gave it a pretty cool look to it.
When the goat ghost girl finished, she gave me a nod. I lifted up my hand, telling the yellow striped black origami bird to track down Freakshow. The bird flew out of my hand and back out through the back door.
"It looked kinda like a bee," Rose observed. "Though instead of black on yellow, it was yellow on black."
"It'll be our homing bird bee then," I joked.
"Yeah… that was pretty bad…" Rose commented with a flat expression.
"I think it was a good attempt." Juliette smiled. "Getting back on topic, how are we sure that the bird will do what we want?"
"Let me see if I can see what the bird we sent out is doing… I was able to see the flock earlier when I called them back," I stated.
I closed my eyes and focused on Rhodonite again, trying to use her to find where the origami bird was. Thankfully, it didn't take me long to find it. I could see it flying through Amity Park. I then found myself looking through the eyes of the yellow striped black origami bird, and I was surprised at what I was seeing. The bird, for one, saw the world in black and white, and various shades of gray.
Origami birds are apparently color blind. I chuckled to myself.
But there was something else that caught my attention; there was a blue trail of energy that the bird was following. It was kind of strange to see color at all through this bird's eyes, but whatever this blue trail of energy was, the bird was definitely following it. I could sense some kind of power coming from those trails.
"Andy, try not to fall off your chair!" I heard Juliette calling out in worry as I felt some phantom hands grabbing at my wing- shoulders.
I blinked open my eyes, cutting off my mental link with the bird. I was surprised to see I was caught in Juliette's arms.
"Ah… sorry about that…" I apologized, feeling a bit awkward.
"It's fine, I was just worried when you started swaying about," Juliette explained. "What exactly happened? And are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm fine… guess it was just easy for me to forget where I was when I linked up with one of the Gem of Life's creations," I chuckled sheepishly. "I was able to see through the eyes of that origami bird we just sent out. It's following a blue trail of energy, and I could sense some kind of power from those trails."
"Blue trail? That could potentially be the energy from the Gem of Fantasy," Juliette pointed out. "Meaning that if you were able to see it through the bird's eyes, then it can definitely track him. That settles it, I'll start converting more of the origami birds immediately."
"We'll also need some of the origami birds to keep an eye on the people we know as well," I stated. "That way we can just head straight for Freakshow without worrying about running into any of them. Though we do have your Gem of Form for disguises if we need to use them."
"Do you think the birds will be able to keep an eye out of the important people of this world?" Juliette questioned. "What was the limitation of their vision? And if it is a severe limitation, perhaps we can alter them to get past that limitation."
"They can only see in black, white, and shades of gray," I answered. "They can still see shapes and people just fine. But it might be harder for them to distinguish the people without being able to see color. I mean Jazz is easy to spot due to her unique long, bright orange hair. But without that, she might be harder to spot in a crowd."
"Then perhaps we can give them the ability to see color? Or… oooh. What if you use the Gem of Life to make some of the birds hone in on the life forces of those we need to keep an eye out for?" Juliette suggested. "While half or three quarters of the birds can be on the lookout for Freakshow, the rest could be specially designed to hone in on the life energies of those we need to avoid. It would likely be easier to do that than it would be to give them the ability to see color."
I nodded, smiling at the idea. "Yeah, that should make our lives easier."
So Juliette and I got right to work, tweaking the origami birds. We had three quarters of them sent out to track down Freakshow, while the rest had improved sight, made to track down the life force of all the people we knew and keep an eye on them.
"Okay, that's all of them," I said. "Now we wait for the ones tracking Freakshow to find him."
"It was cool how the origami birds we sent to track down Danny, this world's you, and the other important people, had red stripes instead of yellow ones. It helped to show that you were the one who put in more of the energy and purpose," Juliette said with a warm smile.
I nodded in agreement, the red striped black origami birds looked really cool. I should've taken a picture of them before I had them go flying off.
"They are properly tracking down their assigned targets, right?" Juliette asked as she put her hands on my shoulders, likely wanting me to check by looking through the eyes of the red striped origami birds.
"I'll take a look," I chuckled before closing my eyes, using Rhodonite's power to link with one of the red striped birds.
When I 'opened' my eyes again, I was flying in the sky, going through Amity Park. Everything was in color this time, and this bird I was linked with was following a red trail of energy. This energy was likely the life force of the person they were supposed to track. I could see some of the other flocks of red striped birds flying close to this bird.
Looking back to the red trail of energy, I followed it until I found a small glowing orb. I was confused when I saw myself looking at a building, but after flying around a little bit I noticed that it was Fenton Works, and the glowing orb was in Jazz's room. I guided the origami bird to land on one of the nearby rooftops. When it did land, I was able to see in through one of Jazz's windows and saw a small red aura surrounding the Jazz of this world. It was quite a large and bright aura, likely matching the life force within her.
Switching between the different flocks of red striped origami birds, I saw that the auras around the different people were of different sizes. I thought all was well until I saw the aura around my Dad of this world. The aura around him was a lot smaller and seemed to be less brilliant than the others' auras. I was confused at first, and worried, and my worry only grew as I gave it some thought. I realized that the reason the aura around my Dad of this world was so dull and small in comparison to everyone else was due to the fact that he was extremely out of shape, had a bad habit of eating junk food throughout the day, and was nothing close to what I would consider healthy.
As I was looking at my Dad of this world, I began to think to myself about my own Dad and how he likely wasn't in the best of shapes either. I personally didn't want to think that my Dad could have the same unhealthy looking aura, but I knew that it was a strong possibility. I made a mental note to myself to try to talk to Mom and Dad about Dad's diet later, when all of this was over of course.
I switched to other red striped birds, making sure each one found their target to keep an eye on. I found Tucker and Sam, they were currently at school. I found other people knew at the school too, like Dash. I wasn't sure if they counted as one of the 'protagonists' that Freakshow said, but it was probably best not to take any chances.
Mom was at home with Dad, both appeared to be in the living room. Likely taking a break from inventing ghost hunting weapons.
Danny and the other me were together, and the strange thing about their life forces were that they were both red and green. No other person, anthro, chienthrope, or human had these noticeably mixed colors in their auras. But even so, it was easy to guess it was likely because they were half ghost. They were currently at school too, though they were outside.
When I had the bird that I was looking through fly a little closer to them, the other Andy looked straight at me, giving me a small wink. I should've known, of course, that the other Andy would know I was here. Danny just gave a curious look at the bird I was in, which I flew away as I didn't want Danny to see that it was made of paper.
"Is it working?" I heard Juliette inquire.
I cut my mental link with the origami birds, finding myself back on the chair I was sitting in. I could feel Juliette was still holding onto my shoulders. "Yeah, the red striped birds found everyone and are keeping an eye on them while staying hidden. Most of them are at school right now. Mom, Dad, and Jazz are at home… at Fenton Works right now. Jazz is in her room, Mom and Dad are in the living room."
"Hmmm… I wonder why Jazz is at home if school is in session?" Juliette commented. "Perhaps she is studying something at home? Or sick? Those are the only two things that would have her at home on a school day during school hours."
"She seems to be a little older than the Jazz in my world, so it's possible she's already graduated school and is looking into college," I guessed.
"She hasn't graduated," Rose informed. "Graduation age in this world is 21 instead of 18. My guess is that it was the latter of Juliette's guesses, that Jazz is sick enough to warrant staying at home."
"Huh… she didn't seem sick to me," I muttered. "Well, it's not that important. What matters is that everyone is accounted for. Now we just have to-"
I blinked, suddenly getting an image of a house in my head. I frowned, holding the side of my head, feeling a bit disorientated from the sudden image.
"Something the matter?" Juliette inquired as she glanced over at me, noticing I was holding my head.
"Just… suddenly had an image of a house in my head," I answered. "It made me feel a little disorientated."
"Perhaps one of your bee birds found something," Rose offered.
"That's definitely a possibility," Juliette concurred.
"Okay, I'm going to check it out," I replied before closing my eyes, using Rhodonite to connect to the yellow striped birds.
Almost immediately, I saw a house that was right next to home… to Fenton Works. The strange thing about this house was that it was glowing blue all over. There was a feeling of wrongness surrounding the house as well. I had the bird I was controlling attempt to fly closer to the window of the glowing blue house, trying to see if there was anything… or anyone inside. However, the bird couldn't see through the windows to the inside, all they saw was more blue energy. The energy itself was strong too, it reeked of power.
I could see more of the yellow striped birds surrounding the place. Whatever was in that house was drawing them all in. This house had to be where Freakshow was. I had the flock fly back, getting on other house's roofs or on telephone poles like most normal birds would do. If Freakshow was in there, I didn't want him getting suspicious by a sudden flock of birds flying just outside the house he was hiding in.
I cut my mental link with the birds and turned my head to look at Juliette. "I think they found where Freakshow's hiding."
"Really?" Juliette blinked. "Where?"
"He's in a house that's right next to Fenton Works. The house itself was glowing blue, and it seemed to reek with power," I answered.
"A house right next to Fenton Works…?" Rose questioned. "There's no house directly next to Fenton Works, or any sort of building like the townhouses near Fenton Works. Fenton Works has a backyard behind it and a driveway on one side, isolating it on a corner. And there is an alley right behind the backyard."
"From what I saw, the house was in the spot where the alley normally is," I explained.
Rose frowned. "That means that not only did Freakshow put the house there, he also likely used some powers to make the Fentons and all those that live nearby think that the house was always there."
"That would seem the most logical thing for him to do," Juliette remarked. "Where better to stay than right beside an escape route into an alternate world? And the last place we would look for him is right near Fenton Works. It also makes sense as it brings up the likelihood of us getting spotted by the important people of this world. If he weren't our enemy, I would actually applaud him for his strategy."
"Well, now we have a chance of catching him," I responded. "We now know where he is, now we just have to get to him."
"We specifically need to ensure that he's there and then ensure that the area is clear of any Fentons," Juliette clarified. "Which will be a bit difficult if Jazz is sick…"
"What about your Gem of Form's disguises?" Rose asked. "Couldn't you use that to avoid getting a gameover if any of the Fentons happen to see you two?"
"We can, but we don't know the extent of the powers of the Gem of Fantasy while Freakshow likely does know a bit," Juliette pointedly answered. "For all we know, it has some ability that can reveal our true selves. The gems were designed to be used in tandem, not against one another. I think only the original creators of the gems would have an idea of what would happen."
"Perhaps, but you should still disguise yourself anyways. If you do get transformed back, think of a plan around it, but it's best to have your disguise before you get there," Rose pointed out.
"Heh… I'm still an anthro fox man, so I'm good in the disguise department," I chuckled.
"I still plan on disguising myself," Juliette assured. "However, it might be a good idea to potentially get our hands on some clothes that we can use to hide our appearances; like hoodies, ski masks, and whatever else those criminals use in those heist movies I've heard about."
Rose gave a smile. "Then check out the closets in the bedrooms, there's plenty of clothes and costumes for you to choose from~"
I was wearing a dark gray sweater, and black pants. Juliette was wearing a silver sweater, and gray pants. We both had ski masks in our pockets to wear over our faces. Despite Juliette's shapeshifting abilities, turning herself into an anthro sheep again, and keeping myself as an anthro fox, we didn't want to take any chances.
"Do… you think we… might stand out more wearing these stealth clothes…?" I questioned, feeling a bit unsure about this.
Juliette shook her head. "It's fall right now, meaning it's getting colder outside. Our outfits just look like standard everyday clothes that one would wear when expecting a chilly day. The reason I made my wool super thin was so I could tell anyone who asked that I recently got a trim and that's my reason for wearing the clothes."
"I suppose so…" I sighed. "Let's get this over with, I don't think my nerves can take anymore of this."
Rose walked up behind them. "Hey, so I'm going to go on ahead and make sure Fenton Works is cleared out, minus Jazz. With Jazz, I'll go take care of her and keep her from looking outside."
"Okay, sounds good," I said before I thought of something. "How would we know when everything's all clear?"
"The origami birds we sent up to keep an eye on everyone," Juliette reminded. "As for going inside, I don't quite think we have to worry about running into any of the important people of this world in there."
"Let's not jinx it…" I grumbled.
Rose giggled a little. "Yeah, you're Andy alright."
I blinked. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"Oh, don't worry about it," Rose replied, making me frown. "Now, I better get going. You can leave here about 5 minutes after I have, as long as you take a somewhat relaxed pace. If you need to, stick to the shadows."
With that said, the kitsune girl went ahead of us. Juliette and I waited for the requested 5 minutes before we left the opera house and began to walk towards Fenton Works, trying to stick to a leisurely pace. I was still feeling nervous. There were so many ways things could go wrong, even with the origami birds keeping an eye on everyone. I felt my tail brushing around my legs, swishing around in an agitated way.
"Take deep breaths," Juliette guided. "I can hear your heartbeat even with my hood up."
"Ah, sorry… We're just so close to the end, and yet, I'm worried something is going to go wrong." I frowned.
"Worrying over things that you can't control is a waste of time and energy," Juliette stated. "You should focus that energy on preparing different plans for how you will react when something goes wrong. Being proactive and making preparations for reacting is one of the smartest things anyone using strategy can do. Think of what could happen, don't worry about what it might cause and instead come up with quick and logical solutions. This also helps keep one focused on the task at hand."
I know that, but that doesn't really stop me from worrying.I frowned to myself.
Although Juliette and I had walked at a pretty relaxed pace, all too soon I could already see the familiar OP Center on Fenton Works' roof. When we got closer, we could see the house, and the neon sign. I felt quite homesick when I looked at Fenton Works. It made me wish I was back home right now with my friends and family, and that they're not locked up in some government facility somewhere.
We stopped when we were one block away from Fenton Works and dipped into a nearby alley. We didn't want to get too close in case Mom and Dad suddenly came running out of the house to look for ghosts or something.
"Go ahead and check the status of the tracking birds," Juliette instructed. "I shall keep an eye out."
"Okay," I replied quietly before closing my eyes to link with one of the birds.
I could see Tucker and Sam were together, and seemed to be standing outside of the school. But there were people running away from the place. I soon saw why when I had the bird turn around. Danny was in his ghost form, battling with a big serpent-like ghost. The serpent was blue, and was huge, it almost looked draconic. It was giving Danny quite a fight. I didn't see the other Andy though.
I heard Juliette chuckling. "Looks like the Fentank, as I've chosen to call your family's well armed RV, is moving out."
I almost started laughing at what Juliette just called the Fenton RV.
"It sounds much better than 'The Fenton Family Ghost Assault Vehicle'," Juliette pointed out. "I'm actually quite surprised that your father didn't name it the Fentank, considering he likes adding your family's name to almost everything he and Maddie invent."
"Sometimes Dad likes to use longer names because they 'sound cooler' or something," I shrugged before focusing back on the tracking flocks, seeing that the Mom and Dad of this world were indeed heading towards the school.
I saw that the flock I had set to Jazz was still sitting near Fenton Works and was keeping an eye on her room. But for the life of me, I couldn't find the me of this world. The tracking flock I had sent after him was split up all across the downtown area, trying to find where he had gone.
I focused on Jazz, seeing Rose was in her room now. Jazz did look pretty sick, like she had a pretty bad cold or something. Rose looked like she was talking to Jazz, but sadly, I didn't add in the ability to hear with these birds. Rose did look at the bird a few times though, showing she was aware of its presence. Then after about a minute, Rose did a 'come in' gesture with her hand behind Jazz so Jazz wouldn't see it.
I cut off the connection with the birds and looked at Juliette. "It looks like Rose is telling us it's safe to move in on the building without Jazz spotting us."
"Right." Juliette nodded as we left the alley and began to speed walk towards the building that wasn't supposed to be there, the one that was right near Fenton Works, the one that we had a strong feeling was made by Freakshow.
Both of us stopped in front of the house that shouldn't be there. I looked at the door, then at Juliette. I looked back at the door, before reaching out to the knob cautiously to see if Freakshow had this place booby trapped.
"Wait…" Juliette stopped me, grabbing my hand. "Why not just…"
Juliette held out her other hand and it began to glow yellow before the door shrunk a little, allowing us to just push it open without turning the knob. I blinked as I looked at the yellow glow on her hand. Did she open that with the Gem of Form or telekinesis? Considering it was a yellow glow and the door actually shrunk a little, I'm guessing the former.
Deciding it wasn't that important to question Juliette, both of us walked inside. I wondered if it would've been wiser if we came in here while invisible.
"Let's stick together," Juliette recommended softly as she returned the door to normal and silently closed it. "First we'll see if there is a basement, and then we'll search this floor before moving to the second floor."
I didn't argue. Juliette and I began to walk deeper into the house. From a normal perspective, it looked like an ordinary house. It didn't have a lot to it, but it wasn't completely empty. There was some furniture like couches, and a table. It, by all means, looked like a boring house.
"Considering this is Freakshow, we should stay on guard," Juliette remarked as she kept glancing around. "This house was made with the Gem of Fantasy, meaning he could've made it with endless amounts of traps."
That much is a given. I sighed to myself. Freakshow likely designed this house to look as boring and ordinary as possible so people would just pass it by. It's a clever tactic, though I couldn't imagine someone like Freakshow being able to live in such a place for too long. He's a ringmaster with crazy ideas after all.
When Juliette and I found the door to the basement, Juliette used her Gem of Form powers to open the door again, however, as soon as she did, we were suddenly staring into outer space. Not only that, we were seeing trains flying through space, as well as several creepy looking gothic clowns and athletes moving around like space travel was nothing, without helmets. I could see someone juggling literal stars in their hands. There was a big tent with a creep looking face, smiling with sharp teeth.
"Uh huh… I don't think this is the right way," Juliette stated before she looked at the door. "It seems that if we opened it with the doorknob, we would've been pulled into there."
"Well… now we know where Freakshow goes when he's feeling too bored here…" I frowned. Though I wonder if Danny would either love or absolutely hate that circus outer space theme...
"Danny would totally hate seeing what Freakshow's idea of space is," Juliette commented.
"Kinda thinking the same thing," I remarked.
"Oh? I've learned that sometimes close friends can… synchronize in a way and end up on the same page," Juliette responded before she closed the door to the basement. "For now we should move on."
Juliette and I began searching the current floor of the house we were in. I tried to use Rhodonite to sense Freakshow's Gem of Fantasy, but this entire house was making it difficult due to it likely being made from the Gem of Fantasy's power. When neither of us saw Freakshow here, however, we began going up the stairs to the second floor, hoping he was here and not out in Amity Park somewhere, or… if he knew we were coming.
As we were heading upstairs, something alarming struck my thoughts. One of the origami birds was warning me of something. Some of the flock that were supposed to keep an eye on Danny got caught up in Danny's battle with that serpent ghost, and got destroyed by ghost rays and fire. In fact, the entire flock following him had been destroyed, leaving me completely unable to track him.
"Are you alright, Andy?" Juliette asked as she looked down at me from the top of the stairs, seeing that I had paused in the middle of going up the stairs.
"The flock that was supposed to keep an eye on Danny got destroyed during his battle with that ghost." I explained with a frown. "Now I can't track Danny. I don't have time to make more birds right now."
"While it might've not been their purpose, you could potentially send some of the yellow striped black origami birds, that we made to track down Freakshow and the Gem of Fantasy, out towards the school," Juliette suggested.
"I'll try," I said, trying to link up with the yellow striped birds to get them to try to track down Danny.
When I was able to get the flock meant to track down Freakshow to go find Danny, I continued up the stairs. There was only one door leading to one room.
"Kinda weird house design, a long hallway on the second floor with just one door," Juliette remarked as she glanced around. "I don't see any obvious signs of a trap, but I'll keep the Gem of Form ready to go, in case I need to turn a trap into a cake or something."
I tried not to imagine Juliette turning a bear trap or a flying dagger into pastries while I braced myself for a possible fight with Freakshow. Juliette carefully opened the door with her Gem of Form again.
However, when we looked into the room, there was nothing there, except for a piece of paper with writing stuck to the window.
"Do you want to read it or should I?" Juliette asked as she stood at the precipice of the doorway.
I walked into the room and looked at the paper before reading it out loud. "It says 'Good job on finally tracking down the place I have been staying in. However, it looks like it's about time we move this game into the last quarter, don't you think? Why don't you look out towards the sidewalk from here?~'."
Juliette and I frowned as what the note said started to sink in. Both of us looked at each other in horror before I ripped the note down so we could look out the window. There, we saw Freakshow already on his way to Fenton Works on the sidewalk. He was looking back at us and gave a taunting wave, a piece of paper in his hand.
"That's likely the last page," Juliette noted before looking at me. "We should hurry."
"I know it's a little risky, but shouldn't we just go through the window and dive bomb Freakshow while we can see him?" I pointed out.
"We can try, but I doubt it would be that easy," Juliette responded as both her hands started to glow yellow. "However… I can try this…"
Juliette closed her eyes and I watched as the window and glass glowed yellow and shimmered. They stayed like that for a few seconds before the glow subsided.
"I'll go first," Juliette said as she went towards the door. She then turned around and started running towards the window. As she reached the window, she jumped and curled herself up into a ball, somehow easily shattering the glass and going right through the window.
Just as Juliette was about to hit the ground, she uncurled herself a bit and softened the ground. She landed and rolled before she looked back up at me. "Come on!"
Gotta love that Gem of Form. I thought as I jumped out the window myself, landing on the ground, which was actually surprisingly soft and cushioning.
"We need to move, he just jumped the fence and walked into the back door of Fenton Works," Juliette informed as the ground below me hardened. Juliette pulled her ski mask out of her pocket and pulled it on before she started running towards Fenton Works.
Seeing that Juliette was pulling out her ski mask and putting it on, I quickly did the same as I was running after her and Freakshow. Both of us jumped over the fence and into the backyard of Fenton Works. We rushed over to the back door, only to find out it was locked. Freakshow had likely locked the door when he ran into the house.
While using our ghost powers to go in was a viable strategy, there was a chance that the ghost alarm in the house was on. Jazz was likely too sick to turn it off.
Juliette let out a grunt of annoyance. "I'm sorry to the Fentons of this world, but we don't have the time for me to use my gem!"
Juliette raised her hand and balled it into a fist before she punched the glass of the back door, breaking it. Juliette then reached through and unlocked the door on the other side before opening it.
"Don't worry, it's not the first time the door was broken," I assured Juliette as we rushed inside. Though it's probably the first time someone broke into it.
When we got inside, we looked around the kitchen.
"Down this way," Juliette said, pointing to the open door to the lab. "Your parents normally close the door, even when they rush out to fight ghosts."
That meant Freakshow likely just went through there. Juliette and I hurried down into the lab, we were practically barrelling down the stairs, and we made it to the bottom in time to see Freakshow jumping into the Fenton Ghost Portal.
"That man is crazy…" I groaned.
"Then we're gonna have to be equally as crazy," Juliette said as she began to rush towards the Ghost Portal, trying her best to hide any of her ghostly energies.
Juliette soon disappeared into the Ghost Portal. I was about to jump into the portal myself, when I got another alarm from the origami birds. I frowned, I didn't have time to stop, but from what I could see… Danny is right outside the lab, and he just saw us run down here. Well, this is just beautiful, isn't it? I forgot that Danny always comes back to the lab after he captures a ghost to send it back into the Ghost Zone!
I came out of the link just as I jumped into the Ghost Portal. I nearly crashed into Juliette in my haste.
"Juliette, we need to move now," I hissed urgently.
"We need to find out where Freakshow went," Juliette responded with a tiny hiss of her own.
I looked back at the swirling portal behind us. I could see Danny in his ghost form flying towards us. There's no time to find out where Freakshow went!
I activated my core, which caused a ring of light to burst forth on my torso and split horizontally on my body. My fur was white instead of red now, my clothes were the same color, it was just my fur that changed. I grabbed onto Juliette's arm and quickly flew in a random direction as quickly as I could.
"Andy! What are you doing!?" Juliette shouted as I was dragging her.
"We can't stay there! Danny saw us coming in, and he was about to fly into the portal to look for us!" I yelled back.
"Now we lost any hope of getting right onto Freakshow's trail!" Juliette loudly stated. "Couldn't you have closed those metal doors on the Ghost Portal instead of pulling us away?!"
"They only close from the lab!" I argued.
I finally came to a stop when we landed on a random floating rock.
"Do you even know where we were going?" Juliette asked as she pulled her arm out of my grasp. "Cause if not, you could've flown us in the opposite direction from Freakshow because you panicked and didn't give me the second or two that I would need to track him down. I mean, you could've even tracked him down if you hadn't panicked! Have you already forgotten that you're currently a fox who has a heightened sense of smell?"
"Not with this mask on," I grumbled before removing the ski mask from my face. "And anyways, complaining about the 'what ifs' isn't going to help us now."
Juliette let out an annoyed huff as she floated a bit away from me. "I wasn't complaining about the what-ifs, I was complaining about the fact that you panicked when you saw Danny. You weren't thinking logically and just did whatever came to your mind first."
"Look, I'm sorry I dragged you away before you could track down Freakshow. But I didn't exactly have the mindset to just float there calmly until you found out where Freakshow went." I frowned.
"Just… give me a minute…" Juliette softly stated through gritted teeth.
After taking a few moments to breathe, Juliette turned back to me. "Now that you have the mask off, maybe we can go back to the Ghost Portal and try to pick up Freakshow's scent trail. If Danny was chasing after us, it's likely that he won't be near the portal."
Juliette began flying back, having taken off her ski mask. I sighed before I slowly followed her. I may have messed up when I dragged Juliette away like that, but there hadn't been any time for me to think. If Danny had caught us, he would've interrogated us since we did sneak into his house, literally breaking and entering, and went into the lab. Danny had every right to be suspicious of us, or even had us arrested. I couldn't say what the right action would have been, but I did what I thought was best for us to get away from Danny and then find Freakshow.
Of course, I didn't say anything to Juliette about it. She looked ready to snap if I tried to say anything about it right now. She was more focused on tracking down Freakshow at the moment.
When we got back to the familiar swirling of the Ghost Portal, I was surprised to see someone else was there, floating in front of the portal. My eyes widened when I thought that was Danny for a second, but I quickly realized that wasn't Danny, it was the other me.
Juliette, also seeing the other me, slowed to a stop and turned to me.
"I think we can try and get his scent trail from this distance, or at least you can," Juliette whispered.
I frowned a little. While I had been an anthro fox for more than a day, I didn't know how to use its nose to track down Freakshow. Not to mention the strong smell of ectoplasm made it difficult to smell anything else here. Or maybe she meant to use my gem to track him down? Bring in the birds here to track him down? Or bring something to life here to track him down?
"Wait, why are we hiding from the other Andy? He's been on our side since he knew of us," I asked. "It was Danny we needed to avoid since he doesn't know us."
"I don't know if he's ever looked at us directly or not," Juliette answered, making me realize that I hadn't let Juliette know that the other me had visited me. I had just told her some of the info I had been given by the other me. "Besides, Freakshow likely would want us to be in front of someone important from this reality so he could do something that reveals us."
I wanted to facepalm myself for forgetting to tell Juliette that the other Andy had looked at me before, and even visited me at night.
"It's fine. The other Andy looked at me several times before while I was in this form, that was how I got the information from him," I explained. "He's likely here to help us find Freakshow."
"Are you sure you want to take that risk?" Juliette questioned. "Because without our masks on, Freakshow only needs to change our forms to make us lose."
"He doesn't have to come with us. He can see into the future at will, he could probably point us in the right direction, and we can go from there," I pointed out.
"You go ahead then," Juliette said to me. "I'll wait here and fully recenter myself. I need to get back to a strategic mindset."
I just gave a nod before I flew towards the other Andy. When the other Andy noticed me coming, he gave a smile and a wave.
"I had a feeling you'd be here. Also, nice white fur," The other Andy chuckled.
"Uh… thanks. So… I assume you know why I'm here?" I asked.
"You're chasing Freakshow," Andy acknowledged.
"Yeah… uh… do you think you could help us find him with your visions?" I questioned.
"Why not try to use your visions?" Andy raised a brow.
"I can't activate them on command like you can," I pointed out.
"Have you ever tried?" Andy countered.
"Um… well, I seem to be able to use them on command if I was wearing a certain artifact, but I didn't bring it with me. And it gives me a headache after a while," I explained.
"Likely because it forces the visions on to you," Andy reasoned. "You need to be able to activate that on your own."
"How do I do that?" I asked.
"How much do you know about using your visions?" Andy inquired as he looked at me, giving me a curious look.
I frowned a little. "I… haven't given it much thought really… it was just usually something that happens on its own."
"Have you ever tried training your visions since you got them?" Andy questioned.
I shook my head. "I didn't know if it was trainable, since the visions seem to happen on their own. I thought if I wanted to use them at any time, I needed to wear that artifact. I only just recently found out that training those visions were possible in the last world Juliette and I were in. I didn't exactly have time to train due to the fact we're still in the shadow game."
"I see…" Andy acknowledged as he reached up and scratched the side of his head a little. "Well, you don't exactly have the time to fully train it right now, but I could try and help trigger a vision for you, explain to you how you can do it on your own."
I was very interested in knowing how the future sight worked, and to be able to learn it from someone who knows how to use it by will, even if he is another me, was an incredible opportunity. I was surprised Clockwork never told me about this. Or maybe Clockwork did and I didn't understand what he meant. That seems to happen a lot.
"Since you're short on time, I'll try to make this quick, but understandable," Andy stated.
I nodded to him.
"Like ghost powers, the energy that gives us visions resides within us," Andy began to explain. "While it's easy to activate ghost powers as all you need to do is reach out and grab onto the core, it's not as easy to activate the time energy. In order to activate the energy within you, you need to very carefully reach out to it and imagine that you're wrapping your hands around it. You don't want to grab it, cause that will cause you to get a ton of visions at once. Once you've imagined your hands around it, you then send the request of information into the time energy. For instance, if you wanted to know about Jazz, you would think about Jazz and mentally ask about Jazz. At the same time you are asking, you cup your 'hands' a little more and allow the outer bits of the energy to make contact with you. That's the easiest and quickest way for me to explain it to you and it honestly isn't guaranteed to work. I've had lots of time to train my visions, so I don't exactly remember much of the basics."
I tried to wrap my head around the explanation. It made sense, yet at the same time, it sounded a little complicated.
"Try to think of it this way," Andy spoke up, likely seeing my face scrunching up in confusion and effort to comprehend. "You're imagining something for someone as a 'target', like say Danny. You want to see what's going to happen to him in the next hour. Focus on that, and let it come to you naturally, don't force it, and don't try too hard. The first step is always the hardest, but once you start to get the hang of it, it'll become much easier for you. Likely, you'll only see one or two branches of that future for Danny in the next hour, but once you start getting a better hold of your future sight, you'll be able to see more, and control which parts you want to see, and study them. I wouldn't advise doing that for a while though, it can be easy to let it drive you insane, and it may not even happen. In fact, it was only recently that I was able to fully control what I wanted to see and study those visions in detail."
I nodded. "So should I try that for Freakshow? Imagine where he's going to be or what he's doing in the next hour?"
"You definitely could," Andy answered. "The most important bit of info would likely be to find out where he is going. By the way, I remember this clearly, when you start to activate the time energy on your own, you're going to feel extremely weird all over. You're gonna need to push through that feeling if you want to get the visions."
"... What do you mean I'll feel extremely weird all over?" I asked with a frown.
"Just try seeing where Freakshow is and you'll see," Andy chuckled. "Don't worry, it's nothing that's going to hurt you."
I gave a cautious nod. "Um… should I close my eyes or something?"
"You don't have to, but since you're a beginner, it might be easier to close your eyes the first few times to make it easier for you to concentrate," Andy answered.
I nodded before I closed my eyes. I began to concentrate on Freakshow, though since there could be another version of Freakshow here, I made sure to think of my Freakshow, the one who came into this world from my own. I focused on where he could be. I wasn't sure what 'time energy' felt like, but Andy did tell me to let it flow naturally. I kept focusing on where Freakshow would be in the next hour.
I then felt a strange vibrating tingle in my right arm that quickly spread to the rest of my body. It made me feel relaxed, ticklish, and somewhat nauseous all at the same time. Despite this, I kept my concentration on Freakshow.
Before I knew it, I was looking at an area in the Ghost Zone. I could see Freakshow standing in what appeared to be some kind of amusement park. It definitely had that creepy ghostly vibe to it. I could see dark, greenish clouds above, like it was about to rain. There was a big castle with a creepy face on it that looked like some kind of monster with a huge open mouth smile, and yellow glowing eyes. Though other than that, the amusement park itself looked pretty colorful and bright. There was a ferris wheel, a roller coaster, a merry-go-round, a lot of stands that had games and prizes, and the like. There were some dead trees around it to go with the ghostly atmosphere though.
I could see Freakshow grinning as he looked at the place, his body glowing with blue energy, likely from the Gem of Fantasy.
The vision suddenly ended, and I opened my eyes.
"Yeah… you're gonna need a lot of practice," Andy remarked. "You've buried that time energy so deep I'm surprised that you even do get visions."
"I did?" I blinked. "How can you even tell?"
"Because I had to put a little of my energy into you to activate it and I sense how deep inside you it is," Andy explained. "Something traumatic must've happened to cause you to bury it that deep."
"How were you able to put in your energy into me? Wouldn't that have broken the rules?" I frowned.
"I made sure that I wouldn't break Freakshow's rules," Andy stated. "I made sure to extend the energy in a way that wouldn't go anywhere near your core, which would allow me to identify you."
I then realized what Andy said about the traumatic event. The only reason I even had the ability to see into the future in the first place was because of what happened with Corrupted Danny. I suppose that would make me want to subconsciously bury it…
"Wait, how did you get the ability to see into the future?" I asked. I mean if he had to come to the conclusion that I had a traumatic experience, then maybe it didn't happen the same way with him?
"I'm not exactly sure," Andy replied. "From what I found out, I had taken some of Clockwork's power. But that's really all I know."
My eyes widened as I realized that this Andy didn't remember how he got the ability in the first place. It might've been because of his time in the Void. Rose did mention that it had taken away all of his memories… he probably still doesn't have all of his memories back yet. And… maybe it's for the best that he doesn't remember that particular event. There are some things… probably better left forgotten. I still get worried around Danny, especially lately, that he would one day become Corrupted Danny again.
"I see…" I remarked.
"Why? Do you know how we got this ability to see into the future?" Andy asked me.
I frowned before shaking my head. "I… think it's best you either don't remember, or find out for yourself."
Andy sighed. "And here I was hoping that I would finally get some answers. Then again, nothing ever seems to come easy for me."
"That's our life… well, half life," I chuckled sheepishly. "... Anyways, I did see Freakshow, but… he seems to be at some kind of… amusement park? It looked to be kinda creepy, almost ghostly even, but also like a normal amusement park."
"It's likely a public domain, a place where ghosts can go to, to have fun," Andy replied.
"But… I don't know where that is, and the Ghost Zone is huge!" I waved my arms.
"That's why I'm here," Andy spoke up.
"You? You know where it is?" I blinked.
"No, I don't," Andy said. "But I can study the trail of how Freakshow gets there. And also… I guess you and your Danny didn't know about this yet, but it's easy for ghosts, even half ghosts, to navigate in the Ghost Zone. We… don't have an official name for it, though Tucker did call it the 'Ghost Tracker' before, so I guess you could go with that. Ghosts have an innate ability to… I guess 'sense' where they're going in the Ghost Zone. It's almost like having a guide without an actual guide. It's… a little difficult to explain it in words. But you and Danny probably notice how easy it was to get somewhere after you've been there before, even if it was only once, right? Like you're able to find Dora's Kingdom pretty easily even though you might've only been there once, or Clockwork's tower."
I was surprised to hear about that. It wasn't something Danny and I ever thought about before. The Ghost Zone was complicated, and hard for people to navigate through. Tucker and Sam even told us they needed Danny and I to draw them a map before they went into the Ghost Zone with the Specter Speeder. But it had been easy for Danny and me to just fly through the Ghost Zone and get to where we wanted to go.
"So… if Ghost Tracker is the name that Tucker came up with, what's the name that Sam came up with?" I asked, finding Tucker's name to be more of a joke than anything. "If your Sam is anything like mine, she comes up with better and more fitting names."
"She suggested we call it Ghost Nav," Andy informed. "Which definitely is my favorite. But anyways, we need to get back on track. Is Juliette okay with following me? I take it she's staying further away because she's worried about the potential game over?"
I nodded. "Yeah. She's also a little mad that I caused us to lose Freakshow's trail when Danny was about to catch up to us."
Andy frowned at that. "Wait… Danny's here? He saw you two come in here?"
"Yeah, he did," I answered. "Why? Is… is that going to be a problem?"
"... I saw this as a possibility, but it was unlikely. I was hoping we wouldn't have Danny in here too…" Andy mumbled. "This makes this more complicated and dangerous for you and Juliette."
I gulped at hearing that. "W-why? Surely Danny couldn't be that dangerous to us, right? I mean he wouldn't know we'd be going to an amusement park domain."
"There are some futures where he won't see you, but there are a few that are quite… high risk. Tell me, did you guys break the back door window or use your gems on it?" Andy replied.
"We... broke the back door window," I admitted.
"Oh…" Andy frowned. "So we're on that set of timelines…"
"Uh… would you mind telling me what set of timelines we're on?" I inquired.
"We're on the set of timelines where we gotta start moving now," Andy answered. "I'll be honest, as we're on this set of timelines, it's gonna be a close call on if you guys will win the game or not…"
"Fantastic…" I groaned before I turned to Juliette and flew over to her. "Hey, Juliette, we need to follow the other me to where Freakshow is. And we need to hurry."
Juliette nodded as she began to follow me, though she did still keep a small distance. I turned back to Andy.
"Lead the way," I stated.
Andy nodded before he began to fly in one direction. I quickly flew after him. Andy turned back for a moment and frowned. "You might need to take As- uh… sorry, Juliette's hand or something, she's lagging a bit too far behind, and there's a dangerous chance she'd get separated from us."
"I won't lose you!" Juliette called up to us, despite lagging behind a bit. I could see she was flying at her top speed. "Just keep going!"
I frowned as I slowed down to meet up with Juliette. "Maybe we should listen to him. I don't want to take unnecessary risks if we don't have to. Or are you still worried about getting a game over if you get too close to him?"
"Of course I'm still worried," Juliette responded with a small frown. "Freakshow is ahead of us, he's had time to set up traps, and if we lose then our world is doomed. I hate to say it, but I'm fairly sure that the last world would be better than the world we would end up living in. Especially as Freakshow wants me as his servant…"
I frowned as I thought about the last world we were in. Having the Ghost Zone and the living world merged into one, as well as turning other people into imperfect halfas, and having corrupted versions of Danny and even myself rule over it. I never met the Juliette of that world, but from what I had heard, she sounded pretty happy. It was no wonder why Juliette would think it would be better than our world if Freakshow won. Though a part of me did wonder if that last world really was that bad. Despite what the resistance thought, it looked like it was a pretty good world. Despite Danny being corrupted, he seemed to care about the people he was ruling over, and- I shook my head, squishing down that part of me quickly.
"I know we have to be careful, Juliette, but we also can't be too cautious. Being wary of someone who's helping us, and worrying that Freakshow is setting up traps ahead would only slow us down more," I stated.
"I… can't help but shake the feeling that Freakshow is expecting us to let our guard down around the Andy of this world while we're in disguise and is going to use that against us," Juliette admitted. "I've had that feeling in my gut since last night."
"You think so?" I frowned. "Could… the Gem of Fantasy disrupt the other gem's power?"
"We don't know how they might work against one another. They were designed to work together and that's all we've really been testing," Juliette pointed out. "If we go in there with Andy, Freakshow might be able to use the Gem of Fantasy to put illusions over us that are our normal selves. And I'm fairly sure that would count against us. Or he could somehow disrupt the transformations that I put on us."
It was weird to hear my name being said like that. It actually took me a moment for me to realize she meant the other Andy and not me.
"If that was the case, wouldn't the other me see that happening?" I asked.
"Maybe? But what if it's Danny that sees us instead of him? Or what if they don't even need to see us directly?" Juliette questioned. "For all we know, we could lose the game if they see us through a camera or picture. Or that mirror maze attraction that I have read most amusement parks have."
"Okay, I can't believe I'm saying this to someone else, but, Juliette, you're overthinking it," I spoke up. "Yes, all of that could be true, all of that could happen, but if you keep thinking about it, you're not going to be able to do anything when we get to Freakshow out of fear that we're going to be discovered."
Juliette sighed. "I… get that, but I… really don't want to lose. I know that I'm not acting like myself and it honestly terrified me… But the idea of what could happen terrifies me even more… If we lose… I don't know if I would want to exist in a world like that…"
"Then don't think about what will happen if we lose. You should think about how we're going to win. We didn't come this far just to lose, Juliette, and we won't," I said with surprising conviction. "We'll find Freakshow, we'll capture him and his last page, and we will win. And if Freakshow was telling the truth about your parents, we'll even find out about them too. So you need to keep your head in the game, and focus on winning instead of what could happen if we lose."
Juliette didn't say anything and just looked at me for a bit. But after some seconds, Juliette gave me a small nod. "I'll try my best."
I held out my white furry hand to Juliette, just now realizing that our fur color matched. "Then have faith in me, and the other me. We may not be Scarlet, but we won't let anything bad happen to you."
Juliette reached forward and took my hand with her white cotton covered hand. "Let's go."
I gave Juliette a smile before I flew us faster to catch up with Andy. "Okay, I have Juliette's hand. Let's go!"
"Good. Try to keep up." Andy smirked.
With that said, Andy flew much faster. I noticed that his legs turned into a ghostly tail. I quickly flew after the other me. I held onto Juliette's hand to make sure I didn't lose her as I was flying to keep up with the other me.
Luna Lillyth: DarkFoxKit: Yeah, I suppose it's easy to forget that 'Chad' was there. You will see what happened to 'Chad' later.
RedHood001: Darkzdragon 'Onyx': It was definitely enjoyable to write out the conversation as they had to be very careful not to break the rules of the world. And the vagueness of their discussion is obvious for certain reasons, the main one being that there are events in this world that haven't happened in our Andy's world. In the words of my favorite character from Doctor Who, besides the Doctor, "Spoilers~".
This timeline being stable… heh, that's a good one. This timeline and world is probably a bit chaotic as it has so much going on with it. While it might not be bleak or dark, it's still pretty chaotic.
Having the age gap was definitely something we wanted to do with this world as it was important to separate us from the canon a bit and give ourselves fresh territory to work on. If we started closer to when Danny became a half ghost, we'd constantly be paranoid about straying too far from canon or upsetting readers because it isn't close to canon. By having our own world like this, we don't risk making large mistakes.
DarkFoxKit: Most of the questions that have to do with the Andy of this universe will be answered in The Infinite Realms story once we can finally start publishing the chapters again. But I will say that there's a reason why this Andy is missing the emblem, maybe you can figure it out by thinking about how our main Andy got his emblem and why the Andy of this universe didn't. Glad we could get you tense when Sam walked in on Andy, and that they figured out a loophole. :3
Dp-Marvel94: Darkzdragon 'Onyx': Yeah, there are loopholes to a lot of things. Let's just be glad that Freakshow is a carnie and not a lawyer. We didn't want to limit what they could do, and the loophole was just the thing we needed to give them the chance to explore.
As for the whole parent and child bit, it was definitely interesting to write out. One thing about ghosts is that while one might be super old and the other might be super young, that doesn't automatically dictate how their relationship will be. There are ghosts out there who are pretty old, yet they more like taking on a child role, like Youngblood. And there are ghosts out there that have only just gotten to the Ghost Zone that enjoy taking on a more elderly, caretaker role. Unlike this world, the living world, age does not determine what someone is and isn't.
We wanted to show, with the Lunch Lady showing up, that while this world may be in the future and it may be different, it is still like the world our Andy and Juliette come from. Showing this world's Danny in action was definitely also something we wanted to do.
And finally, the conversation between the two Andys was something that was definitely fun, interesting, and intriguing to write. We had to make sure to be vague with the details as we didn't want to risk any time travel nonsense with giving spoilers. This world is set in the future in comparison to our Andy and Juliette's world, by a couple years in fact.
Mana16: DarkFoxKit: Yeah, it was nice to just have Andy and Juliette do normal things here, even if they were in disguise.
I thought it was pretty interesting about Danny and Jazz possibly having an older sibling who was taken at a young age and raised to be a warrior, and how he looked pretty similar to Dan Phantom. The chain was a really nice touch. Though I do have to agree with you that Flynn Fenton would be better off in a reboot than a continuation, because it would be nice to have been hinted that there was another Fenton sibling. Though personally I still prefer Danny having a twin brother than an older brother, but that's just me being biased towards Andy.
You do make a good point about Maddie and Jack, mostly Maddie, forbidding the kids from going into their lab after what happened to Flynn. It would've been less likely Danny would've become half ghost. It's still possible, but a lot less likely. But as Andy had seen before; one can't change destiny so easily. If anything, Maddie wouldn't have trusted her kids to go into the lab until they were at least 18 years old, so we'd probably have a much older Danny Phantom when he makes his debut. But it's just a theory. XP
