DarkFoxKit: Onyx… where did you get that kangaroo plushy?
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': *Raises a brow* I thought you got it for me.
DarkFoxKit: Uh… no, I've never seen it before until now.
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': *Frowns* Well if you didn't get it for me, and I certainly didn't buy it… then who did?
DarkFoxKit: … Maybe Andy?
Andy: Hmm? Did someone say my name?
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': Andy, did you get this kangaroo plushy for me? Cause it was addressed to me, and Fox says she didn't get it.
Andy: *Looks at the kangaroo plushy, his eyes started to turn pink* … Yes… I got it for you… it's lovely, isn't it?
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': *Notices Andy's eyes changing colors* Uhhh… Andy? What's going on with your eyes?
DarkFoxKit: You don't think something's controlling him, do you?
Andy: *Smiles* There's nothing wrong with me or my eyes~
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': Could this be like… a different version of that staff that Freakshow used to control Danny? Cause his eyes glowed red when he was under the contr- why are you suddenly approaching me, Andy? Uhhh, Fox? You might need to get rid of this thing.
Andy: Don't be so hasty. The plushy only wants love. It wants your love, Onyx~ Don't fight it, just embrace it, give it a nice, big, dragon snuggle~
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': *Is keeping Andy away with her tail* Fooooooox! Help please!
DarkFoxKit: Toss the kangaroo plushy to me!
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': As soon as you catch it, run! *Tosses the plushy to Fox*
DarkFoxKit: *As soon as she touched the plushy, she was in the kangaroo's pouch, unable to move* Uhhh… Onyx… we have a problem...
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': Oh heck no! *Grabs the camera and jumps off the couch* You guys get to the story, I'm getting out of here so I have a chance to think about what to do! *Runs down the hall before hastily turning off the camera*
Chapter 106: Death Day
"Ahh, there you two are." The old woman happily responded before their form shifted into that of Juliette's ghost form. "Okay, it looks like you two are pretty sick as you're coughing up ectoplasm. I'm going to be very clear in my instructions, so you have to listen and follow what I say. You need to force yourselves to be calm, you need to take deep breaths and focus only on your breathing. I am going to need to take a look at your cores, and I can only do that if you are absolutely calm."
I noticed I was sitting right next to Danny. I wondered if someone moved me to Danny earlier and I didn't realize it. But being next to Danny did calm me down a bit, and it looked like my presence was helping Danny calm down too. Both of us gave a bit of a sleepy look at Juliette, having calmed down enough to stop coughing up or puking ectoplasm.
Juliette gave a nod. "This is going to feel strange, especially right now as you two seem sick, but you can't fight it. If you fight it, you are very likely to hurt me. Do you two understand?"
"I don't want to hurt you," I began sniffling.
"I don't want to hurt you either," Danny agreed.
"Remember what I said, focus on your breathing and remain calm." Juliette warmly smiled.
I looked at Danny, before he nodded to me. We started to focus on our breathing, trying to remain calm as Juliette instructed. Since she was the only ghost we had here to see what was wrong with us, we had to do what she said.
I watched Juliette turn her right hand intangible before she slowly moved it into Danny's chest.
"It's not so bad, just focus on your breathing," Juliette encouraged as Danny recoiled a tiny bit.
I couldn't help but watch in fascination as Juliette had her hand in Danny's chest, likely trying to feel his core. Danny looked uncomfortable, but not in pain. After about a minute or two, Juliette pulled her hand out from Danny's chest.
Juliette nodded a tiny bit before looking at me. "Your turn, Andy."
I focused on my breathing as Juliette kept her hand intangible and reached into my chest. Her hand felt cold inside, but I still felt her fur somehow. When Juliette reached… something in me, it felt uncomfortable. I couldn't help but recoil a little from the sudden touch.
"It's alright," Juliette assured as her hand turned a tiny bit warm. "I'm not going to hurt you."
I wanted to blush from my reaction. I knew Juliette wouldn't hurt me, but my body still reacted that way. But after Juliette did what she did, I felt a lot calmer.
I felt Juliette moving her hand around the 'something' that had originally caused me to recoil. After a few moments, Juliette pulled her hand out and returned it to tangibility. "Okay, good news is that you aren't destabilizing or dying."
"Great," Danny gave a weak thumbs up.
"So… what is wrong with us then?" I questioned.
"Bad news… I'm not exactly sure what's going on with you…" Juliette informed. "There are a number of things it could be, but I'm not a doctor from the Ghost Zone. We could possibly take you to one if you really felt it necessary, but it could be dangerous as they only have experience with full ghosts and not half ghosts."
"So you can't determine what's wrong with them? And we may have to take them to a do-... a doc-..." Tucker began to shiver.
"A doctor in the Ghost Zone?" Sam finished for him. "Is that… even safe?"
"There are plenty of doctors out there, many of them having trained in both life and death," Juliette answered. "However, like I said it could be dangerous. This is because there are no tools in existence designed to work on both a living and dead at the same time. There are tools for working on a living being and tools for working on a ghost. But… since Danny and Andy are the first two halfas and nobody has gotten a chance to study them, ghosts can really only speculate on how their physiology works."
I wondered if I should look into the future to see if there was any way for us to find out what was wrong with us. However, there was a knock on the closet's door.
"I believe my assistance is needed," A familiar, deep voice spoke from the other side of the door.
Juliette frowned as she quickly took on the form of an old lady again. "Come in."
An old looking man opened the door, and all of us were surprised by this old man. He wore a familiar purple cloak around himself. And he held onto a can that had a clock motif.
"Oh… marvellous…" Juliette grumbled. "Of course you would be here…"
"Greetings, Juliette, how long has it been?" The old man chuckled.
"Not long enough…" Juliette muttered.
"Wait, who is this guy?" Tucker questioned.
"It's unsurprising that you do not recognize me," The old man responded. "But I am a man of whom the boys have met many a time."
Danny squinted his eyes at the old man. "Clockwork…?"
"Surprised you managed to hold a stable form like that…" Juliette scoffed. "Shouldn't you be staring at a wall or ordering around that pet- oh I apologize, that employee of yours?"
I nearly flinched at how much venom Juliette had in her comment to Clockwork.
Clockwork didn't seem all that bothered, however, and walked closer to me and Danny. "Come now, Juliette, I only came here to offer my assistance, and you just want to insult me?"
"They're like an old married couple that had a falling out…" Tucker muttered.
"I wonder what their story is…" Sam remarked.
"The truth is, I heard them calling out for help," Clockwork spoke up, turning into his old ghost form. "I can see they're not feeling well."
"Do… do you know what's wrong with us?" Danny softly asked Clockwork.
"I do, but we should take you from here for now." Clockwork replied as he shifted back to his old man form. "This place isn't the right environment to help you and Juliette has already taken the liberty of signing you two out of school for the day."
I looked at Juliette in surprise.
"I figured you'd only call me if it was an emergency," Juliette explained before glancing at Clockwork. "Are they stable enough to be moved? I'd rather they not expel some ectoplasm on the way out of school."
"As long as they stay calm, they will be alright," Clockwork answered. "Though that will be difficult given their emotional needs right now."
"We will take them to my place, but you are only allowed to come in this one time with the boys to help them with whatever mysterious illness afflicts them," Juliette firmly and specifically stated.
"That works fine." Clockwork nodded. "Sam and Tucker, you two will have to remain here as we cannot sign the two of you out. However, you should rest assured that the twins will be fine."
Sam gave a concerned look at both of us. "Are you sure?"
"It'll be alright, Sam… I trust Juliette and Clockwork," Danny reassured her.
"We trust you too, dude, just…" Tucker sighed. "Just give us a call as soon you both can, alright?"
"We'll try our best," I chuckled a little before frowning. "I don't want to leave you hanging."
Danny and I were lying in two of the beds that Juliette had at the opera house. We were currently somewhere upstairs. Clockwork and Juliette had to carry us here since we weren't able to fly or walk on our own without feeling dizzy. I didn't feel like throwing up anymore, but they wanted to keep us in bed just in case.
Juliette and Clockwork both shed their old people disguises and taken on their ghost forms once more.
"So, what is going on with them?" Juliette asked, getting right to the point.
Clockwork looked at me. "Andy, when you marked your calendar today, what was the date?"
I blinked as I remembered the date when I marked the calendar. "It's… August 30th… the first day of school…"
"And?" Clockwork prompted.
"And… the anniversary of the portal accident," I finished.
Juliette let out a small groan, one more of annoyance than anything else. "It's their Death Day, isn't it?"
"Our what now?" Both Danny and I asked at the same time.
Clockwork nodded to Juliette. "Yes, looks like it is. The day Danny and Andy became half ghosts, the day of the accident. The day they had technically died."
"Could someone explain to us what 'Death Day' means?" Danny frowned.
"A Death Day is the day a ghost has died. Like how humans have a birthday when they're born," Clockwork began. "When a new ghost experiences their Death Day, they tend to become quite emotional. Their cores can sometimes feel like it's out of control. Every ghost reacts differently to this. It's an instinctual thing. Older ghosts no longer feel such effects from their Death Day though, it's only new ones. The first few Death Days are difficult on new ghosts."
"And it's specifically your first Death Day," Juliette noted. "Which is likely why it's been so hard for you."
"But… we're not dead," Danny pointed out.
"And how is it my Death Day too? My accident happened later," I reminded.
"Wellllllll…" Clockwork started with a bit of a chuckle, shifting into his child form. "Because the second accident never technically should've occured, and because I had to fix the paradoxes that Desiree created, I may have had to alter time a bit with the help of another. So… in all technicality, the first and second accident happened on the same day at the same moment, which is why you both are halfas and not just Danny."
"And while you may not be dead, you technically are dead too," Juliette added, looking at Danny. "Half alive or not, you're still half dead."
"I will say, Desiree granting that wish nearly unraveled all of reality," Clockwork informed. "Which is why I had to alter time in such a drastic way."
"Oh great…" I groaned, putting an arm over my eyes.
"Remember to stay calm," Juliette quickly stated as she put a hand on my shoulder.
"How long is this going to last?" I questioned.
"Possibly for another few minutes or for the rest of the day," Clockwork answered.
"And in regards to how many Death Days you will experience in this way, it could be 25 years or 100 years. You have to build up a tolerance and a coping mechanism for this," Juliette informed.
I groaned at that, and I heard Danny groaning from the bed beside me. Neither of us were happy that we would have to deal with this every year for a while. 100 years? We'd be at the end of our half life by then...
"It could be shorter," Juliette added. "After all, I am speaking only in terms of ghosts. You two are half ghosts who might defy the status quo. You also have a lot of support that can help you to develop those coping skills. Honestly I was surprised that you two even have Death Days."
"Nobody's studied halfas since the first one," Clockwork noted. "The first halfa likes to keep his secrets."
I wonder how Vlad handles his Death Days… he's had at least 20 years worth of them already… I grumbled to myself.
"We'll have to keep you two away from your parents for now. The stress of having two ghost hunters around you would only make things worse for you two," Clockwork informed.
"But if this lasts all day, our parents are going to be wondering where we are," Danny protested.
"I can probably cover for you," Juliette offered. "Call them and let them know you came over to help me with some tasks around my home."
Clockwork turned into a young man. "It is not the first time you two had to call your parents to tell them you were at a friend's house after all. You are feeling more worked up than usual due to your Death Day. We will need to help you two stay relaxed and feel safe so you don't hurt yourselves."
"Wait, what if Mom and Dad decide to come over to check on us?" I asked.
"I can disguise myself as an adult and let them know you're fine and that you're busy helping me with something and can't be disturbed," Juliette replied. "Though… I should ask, have they started any recent inventions? Because if so, they might be too preoccupied to really notice."
"They did start on a new invention, but they haven't told us what it was yet," Danny answered. "Should we go take a look? Is it something dangerous? Oh gosh, what if it is?"
"No, no, none of that," Juliette firmly stated. "You two need to keep focusing on remaining calm. Don't get distracted."
"I just know Jazz is going to have a field day with this…" I muttered.
"You don't necessarily have to tell her," Clockwork informed. "While I understand she wants to understand you better, as well as study ghosts to know how they work, some things should be kept private until such time as it's relevant and appropriate to talk about."
Clockwork then turned to Juliette. "It would be wise to call their friends once school is out. They're going to need familiar faces they can trust to be by their side."
"Knowing Sam and Tucker, they'd be coming over regardless of if I called them," Juliette pointedly responded. "But I will make sure to do so anyways."
I decided to write down how Danny and I had felt on this first Death Day of ours. From what I could tell, our emotions and mood changed at random, but there seemed to be triggers to those changes. I unfortunately couldn't quite pinpoint the trigger points, but I saw that Danny and I tended to react differently while under these emotional stresses.
Danny would often be more skittish, or heroically aggressive, while I tended to be sad, melancholic, or impatient. Sometimes we would act the same way, but that didn't happen very often. It was hard to think with these constant shifts in emotions. I could hardly remember what I even did after Tucker and Sam came over. I just knew they were acting cautious around us. I remembered Sam talking to us almost like we were scared animals at one point. I felt like something caused Danny and I to freak out at one point. There was a loud noise outside that likely caused it. Juliette told us Scarlet took care of whatever it was.
As the sun was setting, however, Danny and I started calming down from our Death Day experience. It was easier to remember what was going on, and our emotions weren't as all over the place. I also realized Tucker had brought a lot of games for us to play, games that would help relax us rather than intense action games. It was thoughtful of Tucker, he also used his PDA to play relaxing music in the background. I was afraid to ask how Danny and I had acted earlier, though Tucker did inform us he had recorded most of what we did, so he could show us if we really wanted to know.
Sam had been there for a bit from what Tucker had told me, but she had to leave at some point because her parents called and wanted her home immediately for some sort of important thing. Tucker admitted he hadn't really been paying attention when Sam explained why she had to leave early besides 'her parents called her'. Danny seemed disappointed that Sam already left by the time we came to our senses.
When it had started getting dark, Tucker had to go home. He waved to us, saying he hoped we would be better by tomorrow, and left. Danny and I were feeling much better than before, though Juliette didn't want us to go home just yet. I noticed that Clockwork was nowhere to be seen, and Juliette explained that when Tucker and Sam came along, Clockwork decided to leave it in their hands for now, since he needed to get back to his tower before his employers found out he left his post for a couple of halfas.
"Are you entirely sure you are ready to go home?" Juliette asked with a worried expression on her face. "I don't want you to be near your parents until you are completely stable. Even if that means sleeping over for the night."
"We should probably at least check to make sure our parents and Jazz are okay…" Danny said, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly. "I mean… we've been out of it for most of the day. I know Scarlet was able to handle the ghosts, but…"
"I guess you can say we're just worried," I sighed. "But you do have a point, Juliette… it might be too soon for us to go home now."
"If you'd like, we can just call your parents and check in," Juliette offered. "That way you don't have to take the risk of going home and being unable to leave. We can also see how you react to hearing your parents' voices."
"That's probably the… safest idea." Danny nodded. "Um… bro, did we bring our phones?"
"You do have your phones on you," Juliette informed with a chuckle. "That's how you called me in the first place, remember?"
"Honestly, I'm having trouble remembering most of the day," I admitted.
"You can either call them from your phones, or you can call them from my landline phone," Juliette offered. "After you talk to them, I can go over your school day again, as Tucker told it."
Danny squinted his eyes for a moment. "Did we put our phones down somewhere?"
I blinked. "Did we take them out for any reason?"
"They… should be in your pockets," Juliette responded in confusion. "I was simply offering to let you use my phone if you would rather use that. And… I am starting to think that you should spend the night here regardless of how you react to your parents."
Danny and I both chuckled sheepishly as we blushed from how weird we sounded like now. It felt like my brain was fried from today's events.
Danny pulled out his smartphone from his pocket and speed dialed home. Danny put the smartphone on speaker so I would be able to hear our parents too.
The phone rang a few times before there was a click. "Hello, sweetheart, how are you doing? You still busy helping Juliette at her home?"
I felt strange when I heard Mom's voice. I felt conflicting emotions. I felt happy to hear her, but I also felt dread. I felt safe, yet I also felt like I was in danger. Two images of Mom appeared in my head; the loving, caring mother that I grew up with, but also the angry, ghost hunting woman who had been trying to shoot me and Danny down for just being a ghost.
"Y-yeah," Danny answered, his voice almost cracking. "I was calling to ask if it'd be alright with you to stay the night? S-since it's… l-late and all..."
"Of course that'd be fine. Just make sure you get to school on time tomorrow and don't be rude to Juliette. Also, make sure to eat some yummy dinner," Mom responded, not seeming to notice how off Danny sounded. "Juliette let me know earlier that the project might take the whole night and she assured me that she would get you to school on time. She also asked ahead of time if you could stay the night and I told her 'yes' then."
"Thanks for letting us stay with Juliette for the night, Mom," I spoke up, letting her know I was here as well, and trying not to let the negative half of my emotions get to me.
"No need to thank me, sweetums. Just make sure you are good guests and don't impose on Juliette," Mom replied with a chuckle. "Jack, watch the wiring there or else you'll cause that to explode!"
There were some scuffling noises in the background, and we heard Dad's voice. "No worries, Mads! I've got it under control!"
"Three…" Danny started counting down.
"Two…" I chuckled.
"One." Danny and I simultaneously said before there was an explosion.
Despite knowing the explosion was going to go off, it did cause Danny and I to flinch, Danny almost dropped the phone.
"We're fine!" Mom assured. "If you need anything, call back. Love you, sweethearts. Night!"
"Goodnight, Mom," Danny and I both said before there was a click.
Juliette gave a small nod. "Yes, it is definitely vital that you two spend the night here. Had I let you go home, it might've led to a second breakdown."
"A second breakdown?" I blinked.
"Did we have a breakdown?" Danny frowned in concern.
Juliette gave a sheepish look. "I say 'breakdown' but I actually mean a recurrence, a second wave. Some ghosts are unfortunate enough to have relapses before the day is over, meaning that they re-experience their Death Day for a second time in a row. It could… unfortunately also break one of the three Sacred Taboos, which are ghost laws that I may have told you about before."
Juliette took a quick breath before continuing. "Namely the 3rd Sacred Taboo… though it could also even trigger an event that breaks the 2nd Sacred Taboo. The 3rd Sacred Taboo is that a ghost must never be forced to relive their death, which is something that can happen if a ghost experiences a second wave on their Death Day. The 2nd Sacred Taboo is that a ghost's mind must never be messed with to the point that they will destabilize. And since I'm going over them already, the 1st Sacred Taboo is that a ghost's form must never be destroyed unless their core is going to be consumed. And it is very much against the rules to outright destroy one's core."
"3 Sacred Taboos, huh?" Danny muttered.
"There are more Taboos, but those 3 are the Sacred Taboos that have severe punishment if they were ever to be broken," Juliette clarified. "Whether by ghost… or even human."
"Wait… humans don't know about these Taboos." I frowned. "How would they know if they broke one?"
"They… wouldn't…" Juliette sighed. "There have been a few cases in the past where a human unknowingly broke a Sacred Taboo and… their punishment was death, reincarnation as a ghost, and finally core enslavement."
"That doesn't seem fair though," Danny pouted.
"From what I understand, the Taboos, at least the Sacred Taboos, did get passed down in the past in the living world," Juliette mentioned. "However, there are no mentions of it in this era. Meaning that it either has been forgotten, or is somewhere that nobody in this generation looks. Like a library."
I almost laughed at the last comment Juliette made. "It's likely because in this era, not many people even believe ghosts exist. Well, obviously not in Amity Park, but I mean outside of it. The living world thinks ghosts are just a myth."
"They believe many things are just myths, which makes me worry for this world…" Juliette sighed. "Vampires, werewolves, dragons, elves…"
"Wait…" Danny blinked. "Are you saying those creatures actually exist in this world?"
Juliette nodded a little. "While yes, magic may not be used anymore, it is still in the world from what I can tell. It is still a part of nature and all that, meaning those creatures still likely exist somewhere. I mean… think of Dorathea, how could a ghost dragon exist if a real dragon didn't exist beforehand?"
I was about to make a speculated comment when Juliette and Danny's voices started to sound far away. The world around me started to feel less real, and more surreal. I had to close my eyes as images began to pop into my head.
I saw Dad eagerly opening up the front door, looking quite excited about something. Mom gently pushed Dad back a little, before looking apologetically at someone who was standing at the front door. The person then handed Mom some kind of fancy looking envelope. Then I found myself in my room, standing in front of a mirror. I wasn't looking at the mirror, however, I was looking at the tuxedo I wore back when we were visiting Vlad in Wisconsin the first time. I looked down at myself, seeing I was in nothing but my white and blue boxers. I then looked back up at the mirror and noticed a little glint of something black and metallic looking in the corner of the mirror.
I was leaning in to get a better look when my vision started to get a bit fuzzy. However, just before my vision went black, I saw a large glass capsule leaning against a wall, filled in the center with floating green goop, reminding me of a lava lamp… but much bigger. I wanted a better look at it, but my vision was already fading.
When I blinked open my eyes, I found myself leaning against Juliette.
"We should definitely get you somewhere comfortable while I prepare some food… or just order some," Juliette commented, a look of worry and concern on her face. "I don't want you going all the way upstairs, so I'll take you to the mostly completed living room."
"Are you okay, bro? You looked like you fell asleep on your feet," Danny asked in concern.
"Yeah… I just had another vision is all," I assured them.
"Oh? What did you see?" Danny curiously questioned.
"Just bits and pieces of some things," I shrugged. "I saw Mom and Dad getting some kind of fancy envelope. Then I saw… uh… myself, looking at my tuxedo for… some reason. And then I saw a flash of black metal… or something metallic that was black in color. That was followed by seeing a really big lava lamp thing with glowing green goo moving around in the middle."
"Could the black metallic flash been a part of that 'really big lava lamp'?" Juliette inquired as she began to help me towards a room off to the side of the former theater.
"I don't know… I didn't get a good look at the black metallic thing, or the really big lava lamp," I sighed. "These visions just sometimes like to show me something and then take them away before I could really see it. It's frustrating."
"I'm more interested in this envelope Mom and Dad will be getting," Danny remarked as he followed us to the room.
"Dad seemed really excited about it," I added. "Though I'm not sure if that helps with anything."
"I wonder if it has to do with the tuxedo, since you said the envelope was fancy," Danny mused. "Though… if it is we might need to get new tuxedos and dress pants."
"Why?" I blinked in confusion, causing Danny to chuckle a little.
"Because we've grown a little since we went to that party in Wisconsin," Danny pointed out, still chuckling a bit. "Those tuxedos and pants likely don't fit us anymore."
It was hard to tell if we grew at all over the year since we, or more specifically, Danny, got his ghost powers, but Danny did have a point. A year could be all it took for growing teens like us to grow enough to need new clothes. Some of the clothes I was used to wearing had seemed to be a little smaller than they used to be, and some were so small that I couldn't wear them anymore. I had, up until now, just assumed that Dad had decided to do the laundry and ended up shrinking the clothes.
"Until then, you two should relax here until tomorrow morning," Juliette spoke up.
Juliette led me to a couch that was in the room she took me into, and had me sit down on it. The couch was surprisingly comfortable. Danny sat down on the couch next to me. Despite not doing much today, both of us felt exhausted.
"Don't fall asleep, okay? I need to make sure you two eat dinner," Juliette requested. "Would you like me to order in something, or try to cook for you? I do have some ingredients here, but they're mainly for making snacks when you guys come over to train."
Danny looked over at me. "Pizza?"
"Oh, definitely pizza." I grinned before furrowing my brows and looking to Juliette. "Wait… how do you have money to order food? I just realized I never asked before."
"I've been having Scarlet and Lydia doing some job requests in the Ghost Zone to help them train and a few of the jobs have paid in things we could trade for money," Juliette explained. "We got some jewelry and gold, some antiques, and a few pieces of furniture. It's not the furniture you are sitting on, that we purchased with some of the money we saved up."
"Oh wow, sounds like you've been busy," Danny noted.
"Where… has Scarlet been today? I don't remember seeing her since we got here," I inquired, just realizing I didn't see Scarlet today, just told she handled some ghosts earlier.
"I sent her to take care of Amity Park in your stead," Juliette answered. "She is likely currently patrolling. She was also concerned about being around you two during your Death Day, she knows how intense she could be. Additionally, she was worried that some of your enemies might be evil enough to try and attack on your Death Day, taking advantage of your weakened states."
I had to admit, if Scarlet had been around during the worst of our Death Day, we likely would have freaked out a lot more, or been very uneasy at the very least. While Scarlet was indeed a good friend, and a great combat trainer, she wasn't exactly someone to be around with when one wanted to relax. The sound of her armor clinking about also would've kept us on edge as we were easily startled by any little noise.
"So what do you two want for your orders?" Juliette asked as she went over to the coffee table and picked up a notepad. "You said pizza, but I need more information if I am going to place an order."
After spending a nice and relaxing night with Juliette, having a pretty fun sleepover, Danny and I were heading to school. We both felt much, much better now that it was no longer our Death Day. It was nice, our emotions were no longer going out of control, and our brains didn't feel like they were made of cotton anymore. It was much easier to concentrate in school, unlike yesterday.
Valerie and Dash did ask me if I was okay, since Danny and I had to leave school early yesterday. I assured them that we were fine, we were just unfortunate to have a 24 hour virus at the time.
The teachers had been nice enough to go over a few lessons that Danny and I missed yesterday. However, we did have to skip a few classes due to our ghost senses going off, and we had to take care of the ghosts. None of the ghosts that showed up were the Box Ghost, which my ears were grateful for. The ghosts that showed up were definitely in the Box Ghost's strength range, but they were mostly minor ghosts that just wanted to cause mischief in the school.
Instead of using our ghost forms, I recommended to Danny that we take on the weaker ghosts as our regular human selves if we could. I didn't like the idea of using our ghost forms just to chase after minor ghosts when they could easily be taken care of by just pointing our Fenton Thermos at them. This way, it was less of a risk of someone seeing us turning into Danny and Andy Phantom.
By not using our ghost forms, we were able to practice taking on ghosts in our human forms. I had to remind Danny of something Scarlet had pointed out to us, which was that we relied too heavily on our ghost forms and skills. It was something I also thought about after going through Freakshow's game, since I had been powerless in two of the three worlds I went through. Chasing ghosts as our human selves was a lot more difficult than if we had been in our ghost forms, but it wasn't impossible. We could at least still go through walls or even go invisible to sneak up on them, or keep other people from seeing us if we needed to.
Tucker and Sam still helped us with the ghosts whenever they could. Though they couldn't quite sneak out of the class as easily. I was a bit worried about seeing Jazz though, she would likely jump us the second she saw us since we didn't come home yesterday, and she only had phone calls from Juliette. Thankfully, senior classes rarely interacted with sophomore classes.
The rest of the school day wasn't so bad though. It was the second day of school, and the teachers were still being lenient about giving us homework. The first week of school was usually lenient, which I was thankful for. The school was giving the students a chance to get settled back into the routine before they start hitting us with the tedious stuff.
Before I knew it, school was out for the day. Though I was glad to be out of school, because now we could go home. Unfortunately for us, when it was time to go home, Jazz decided to jump us. She immediately began questioning us on what happened, before she all but pulled us into her car so we could talk in private. Of course, Danny and I had to explain to Jazz what happened yesterday, and about our Death Day.
When we were home, Jazz was still hanging over us, though Mom and Dad asked us how our sleepover went. They still didn't suspect anything, though I could tell Mom did seem a little worried, likely because we decided to have a sleepover all of a sudden without really telling her ourselves, she had to get a call from Juliette. I could see this becoming a problem in the future for us if we kept disappearing on our parents without warning. Mom might start to suspect something was wrong with us, though thankfully Dad wouldn't notice anything unless he needed us for something or someone told him.
I wanted to talk to Danny about how we could avoid getting our parents, specifically Mom, from getting too suspicious of us disappearing a lot. However, my train of thought was interrupted when there was a doorbell ring. Dad went to go answer it.
There was a man wearing a fancy looking butler outfit. "Greetings, Mr. Fenton. I was sent here by Master Masters to deliver this to you."
"Vladdie sent you?" Dad raised a brow, but looked excited. "Ooooh! I wonder what he sent me!"
Mom walked over to Dad, and gently pushed him back a bit. "Sorry about my husband, he gets excited whenever his old friend Vlad is involved."
"It is quite alright, Mrs. Fenton." The man bowed before he handed Mom something.
"Thank you." Mom smiled before the man left.
Mom closed the door and walked towards the living room, with Dad following closely behind her.
"Seems he sent an envelope," Mom noted as she turned over the envelope in her hands. "Feels a bit thick, so it might be more than just a letter."
The envelope looked pretty fancy, it also looked familiar.
Mom looked at Dad. "Jack, sweetie, are there any anniversaries or reunions or any special event that involved Vlad that we may have forgotten about?"
Dad scratched his head. "None that I could think of. Maybe we should open the envelope and see what Vladdie sent us! It might be something good."
"It could just be a really early holiday card," Danny suggested, hoping that it wasn't some kind of invitation.
"It definitely seems to be a card," Mom noted as she opened the envelope and pulled out a thick, fancy looking card. "'Dear Fenton family, you are cordially invited to attend a party at a mansion I am renting out. The dress code is formal, gifts are not needed but will be graciously accepted, and food and drink shall be supplied by myself. The reason I am hosting this event is to announce some marvellous news of mine as well as to get the most influential of Amity Park together in order to discuss the ongoing ghost menace. The time, date, and address of the party have been marked below. I hope to see you all there - Vlad.'. Hmmm… it seems that it will be happening this Friday in the evening. That should give us time to get ourselves some new dress clothes."
"Do I have to get new dress clothes…?" Dad whined a bit.
"Yes, sweetheart, you've unfortunately… outgrown the formal outfit you wore to the last party of Vlad's," Mom answered, making me frown a little as it confirmed to me that Dad's health seriously needed improvement.
"Wait, so we're all going or just the two of you?" Jazz questioned.
"This invite is to the whole Fenton family, not just myself and your father," Mom answered. "Meaning all 5 of us will be attending the party."
"Do we have to go? We could always just decline," Danny pointed out, not really wanting to go, which I couldn't really blame him.
"Yes, you have to go," Mom replied. "The address is at that gated community that's still under construction, likely at one of the already complete mansions."
"But do you remember what happened the last time we went to one of Vlad's parties? Dad got possessed, and everyone got mad at us," Danny reminded.
"That's exactly why we need to go to this one," Mom responded. "Vlad wishes to address the ongoing ghost problems in Amity Park, and likely also wants to make up for the mishap at his last party."
"And no ghost is going to make a meat puppet out of Jack Fenton again!" Dad announced proudly. "I'm going to make sure of it this time!"
Mom patted Dad on the shoulder. "Sure you are, sweetie. But we aren't going to be bringing any of our weapons or equipment to the party. The only thing we will be bringing, which I will actually have you wear, Jack, is the Specter Deflector."
"Aww, but why can't we bring any of our other weapons? I'm sure Vladdie would love to hear me talk about them," Dad whined.
"Because if we want to get the other influential families of Amity Park onboard with our projects, we need to show our best selves," Mom answered. "And that's best done by going with perhaps a data pad with some of our… safer inventions and ideas and selling them on that. I don't believe a formal party would be the best place to show off our inventions themselves."
While Mom and Dad were talking about the party, Danny, Jazz, and I walked into the kitchen to have our own conversation on the matter at hand.
"That envelope… it was the same one I saw in my vision before…" I noted.
"Great… so the envelope turned out to be an invitation to another one of Vlad's traps… as if we didn't get enough of those…" Danny grumbled. "The last time he was here, he nearly cut Tucker and Sam's lives short with his stupid ecto acne disease."
"Not to mention that super weapon and nano-bot incident…" Jazz added. "What could he want this time, I wonder?"
"It sounds like he'll be hosting the party here, in Amity Park this time." I frowned.
"Honestly, a bit of it sounded like he just wanted to show off how rich he is," Danny commented. "I mean… did he really have to mention that he was renting a mansion in the invitation? Or mention that he was inviting all the other influential people of-"
Danny blinked before his face turned a bit red.
"Something the matter, Danny?" Jazz inquired.
"I… wonder if that means Sam's family was invited…" Danny softly muttered.
I almost wanted to start laughing. Danny went from annoyed with Vlad to embarrassed really quickly when he thought about Sam. If Sam was going, then she would likely have to wear a formal dress. Knowing Sam's parents, she was likely going whether she wanted to or not.
"It would make sense for Sam's family to be invited," I remarked. "Does this invitation suddenly not seem so bad to you anymore, bro?~"
Danny huffed at that before lightly punching me on the shoulder. "That's none of your business…"
"Is that sunburn, or are you blushing, Danny?" Jazz grinned, finding this just as amusing as I did.
Danny was grumbling under his breath.
"The only downside to that is that we'll also be seeing Mr. and Mrs. Manson. Because that went so well last time…" I sighed.
"Hopefully Sam's grandmother will be there as well, she seemed like she could keep Mr. Manson in check," Danny responded before looking at the stairs. "I… think I'm gonna go take a look at my closet and see if I have anything to wear… Y'know, as Mom and Dad made it clear we don't have a choice in going to this party or not."
"Yeah, of course, that's the only reason," I chuckled. "We should also be on the lookout for any traps Vlad has for us and our family."
"I'll make sure to keep a lookout for anything suspicious," Jazz spoke up, looking determined.
"You're not allowed to bring any weapons, though if you could smuggle a few, you can try," I suggested to Jazz. "But please… don't act like you did when you first started helping us fight ghosts. The last thing I need is to be sucked into the Fenton Thermos when Vlad puts whatever plan he has into motion."
"I'll do my best." Jazz sheepishly smiled.
tiffanymayumi2.0: Darkzdragon 'Onyx': *Is speaking through a tablet as she was locked in a safe room of hers* Glad to know we had you on the edge of the seat about the boys' health.
DarkFoxKit: *Is still in the kangaroo's pouch in the living room* Yes, yes, enjoy the worry~
KMilesXD: DarkFoxKit: Yeah, well it's because of the day, as you can see in the chapter.
Dp-Marvel94: Darkzdragon 'Onyx': Heh, someone has been reading other Danny Phantom Fanfics. Or… would they be called Phanfics? Anyways, yeah, you guessed the first part at least. The second part isn't right as due to time shenanigans combined with the second accident, they actually share a Death Day.
DarkFoxKit: Plus it was easier to just do one Death Day instead of one day with Danny and one day with Andy.
Mana16: DarkFoxKit: Well, not puberty exactly, but something a bit similar. The Death Day will be explained a little more in depth later on, but you just need to know it's a very painful day for ghosts like Danny and Andy.
I don't think I've heard of Stage Fright before. Might be something worth looking into later. Andy sort of does have a hobby, and that's writing in his journal. Though I guess it would be healthier for him to pick up a hobby outside of all the strangeness. And it would be fun to try out plays for the boys, especially if the plays involve Danny Phantom himself~ :3
Ah, would've been nice to see Danny actually having a lair in the show. But this does free us to use the lair however we want. And well, it may take some time for the boys and their friends to think of using a mirror or a portal of some kind as a back-up access to the Ghost Zone, since they hadn't run into a situation where they needed the Ghost Portal but didn't have it yet. Speaking of Livin Large, that's an episode I'm looking forward to write~ It gives me a chance to tear into the actual episode, since it's one of my least favorite episodes of Danny Phantom. :3
Yeah, Sam is an interesting one to work with. Though I don't know if we'll do a major timeskip where the gang are adults or at least young adults in the story.
Darkzdragon 'Onyx': Probably wouldn't do a timeskip, may do something else though. This might not be an infinite-adventure story. There may be a stopping point, a final chapter where the world will not continue, a happily ever after. Also, Sam just seems the most… occulty of the group, so magic would fit her. And thinking about it, the magic she would be most in sync with probably would be nature.
Luna Lillyth: Darkzdragon 'Onyx': I mean growth pains as a ghost could cause severe nausea for all we know. You are right in that Maddie and Jack didn't have anything to do with this.
