A/N - This is a continuation - hence the name - of the final Cristina and Burke scene in 'Losing My Religion'. This story is dedicated to all the girlies at the MTC board

A Continuation

Cristina listened to the background noise of the late shift nurses outside Burkes room. She had been reliving the night's events. She was thinking about her reaction, regretting her reaction. The feelings she had when she walked into Burkes room, seeing he had been shot, how she felt when Burke asked her what he should do.

Cristina Yang wasn't easily scared, but at that moment she felt as if someone had punched her in the stomach…hard.

She looked down at a sleeping Burke. She found herself concentrating on his chest slowly on his chest slowly rising and falling.

She had felt so much today, she was angry, scared, ashamed then angry again.

Cristina smiled thinking of how Burke would have tried to calm her, if he wasn't in that hospital bed.

The smile dropped off her face. She wondered how their relationship would survive this, more importantly how Burke would survive this.

She told him she was there for him. Actually she didn't tell him, she showed him, and she was proud. She looked down at her hand still holding his; it had been awhile since he fell asleep. She couldn't bring herself to remove it

So she was there for him, Cristina wondered what this meant exactly. She was guessing it wasn't just physically, she could do that. She chuckled to herself at the thought. Burke needed more than that and part of her needed more too

Things had changed between her and Burke since George had moved in. Cristina had realized that she likes Burkes asking all those annoying questions as soon as she walked in the door. She likes the arguments they have over whether to order takeout. She likes being with him.

Cristina groaned to herself thinking of what she had become. She wasn't sure if she liked this new person, it made her weaker.

Cristina never expected her life to be this way. Surgery was all she had planned, no friends, no family and definitely no Burke.

"Yang", a harsh but comforting voice called from the door of Burkes room, interrupting Cristina's thoughts.

"Yes Dr. Bailey", Cristina answered. She rose from the plastic chair next to Burkes bed. Not as fast as she usually would have, but it had been a long day.

"Have you seen Izzie?" Bailey sounded worried. Cristina shook her head she hadn't even considered Izzie. She blamed Izzie for what had happened. Not that she would ever say anything. Cristina groaned again thinking that it wasn't the first time she had kept a thought to herself.

Bailey misinterpreted the groan, "yes, she quit the program".

The words ran through Cristina's mind. She was mildly worried for Izzie, but her thoughts again settled on the man lying in the bed next to her, the man she had promised to stay with, even though she wasn't even sure what that meant, the man that comforted her now needed to be comforted.

Cristina looked down at Burke again and slowly lowered herself back into that hard plastic chair.

Bailey watched Cristina then left.
