Title: Like Jack and Sally

Author: Miriam Dickens

Chapter: 1

Once upon a time there was a little girl who lived with her brother. Most of the time she felt sad and lonely because her brother always had to work. She was a six year old girl and she loved her brother deadly. If her parents hadn't died she probably wouldn't have felt this lonely but life was like this and there was no way to know what it had in store for you.

She knew her brother loved her, but what could a six year old girl do when nobody really cared to explain what was going on?

It all began when her brother and she were waiting at the airport for their parents to arrive. Their parents had gone in a tour around Europe with some other people she didn't know. They had been very excited when they first delivered the news to the rest of the family. She didn't understand very much what the porpoise of the trip was, but apparently her brother did. He was as excited as her parents were at the idea of traveling with those strangers. It was probably because he was older than her, way older. He was like a big time older, or at least she thought so.

When they arrived at the airport, her brother instantly grabbed her hand, there was a big commotion going on. She saw people everywhere and they seemed slightly scared. She didn't mind them, though. She only wanted to see her parents. They would finally come back! Her mom had promised her she would bring some beautiful dolls she had seen in her trip. How exciting!

If only she could have seen them.

The moment they neared the place where they were supposed to meet their parents, she knew something was wrong because there were a lot of ladies crying and some men were yelling at other men in uniform, she knew that uniforms! They were the police men!

Her brother started to walk faster, nearly running. He tried to ask questions to the people around them but they didn't even look at him. He then went to talk to a police that had just finished talking to another man. The police man said that there had been an accident. He then asked him if they were waiting for someone in the plane.

At last he said he was sorry, but nobody had survived.

She didn't understand. What were they talking about?

Her brother asked more questions, he wanted details. He talked to other people for a long time. He was really scared, you could tell by the look in his eyes and the way he carried her little sister around.

Poor boy.

Poor girl, they said.

But what was going on?

Finally after a long time, her brother took her aside and told her that their mom and dad wouldn't be coming back. There had been an accident with the plane.

"But they promised they would be coming today."

"I know."

"Well, then they'll be coming tomorrow." she guessed.

"No, they won't come because they are dead."

The last thing she remembered before she started to cry were her brother's arms around her.

She would have loved those dolls.
