Jessi and Cyndaquil were strolling through the forest. They had been on the road for a few days now, completing the Pokedex, Jessi had managed to catch a Pidgey. With the sun's light flickering between the ever-present trees and the wind blowing lightly in their faces, it was a beautiful day for a walk, as though the events before never happened.
Before long, they arrived at a crossroads, and Jessi groaned in dismay. To the left, a river with water so clear, she could see the various fish Pokemon like Magikarp and Feebas underneath. To the right, a seemingly endless patch of long grass, its peaceful appearance oddly deceptive.
Jessi had learnt the hard way to avoid these at all costs. Both of them remembered the last time they ventured into the dense undergrowth.
Seeing no wild Pokemon inside, Jessi and Cyndaquil strolled in without a care in the world. As they walked in the grass, they weren't aware that several pairs of eyes were watching them in secret.
All of a sudden, Jessi heard a rustling noise in the bush. 'What was that?' She said, backing up cautiously. Then, the rustling stopped.
As though conjured by magic, a Shinx leapt at her from the grass, and she dodged out of the way only just in time. With bright, intelligent yellow eyes, blue fur, and a black tail with a star at the end, Jessi had saw it before in many homes, where people would use it to keep out pests like Rattata. It growled at her aggressively, its body in a crouching stance.
Dawn whispered to Cyndaquil, "Are you up for a battle? I want to capture it."
If they had to fight, she may as well try to catch it. Cyndaquil nodded.
Shinx pounced at the porcupine, its body glowing with yellow sparks. " Cyndaquil, umm, use Ember!" Reading the Pokedex gave her a basic idea of Cyndaquil's moves, and the Fire porcupine Pokemon obliged, fire shot at Shinx.
The cat took the brunt of the hit, and was slammed to the ground.
" Great work Cyndaquil" Jessi said. Cyndaquil yipped urgently, as if to point towards the Shinx. 'Oh right!' She said, grabbing a Pokeball from her waist. Just as she was about to toss it, the grass around her rustled violently.
" What?" Jessi shuddered in fear as 4 more Shinx emerged from the tall grass. Noticing their fallen companion, they snarled at Jessi furiously. Jessi returned Cyndaquil to its ball in a panic.
" Shiiiit!" Jessi screamed and ran as the pack chased after her, thunderbolts flying everywhere…
