Chapter one the kid
The day started off as a normal day, Anakin, and obi wan had called the 501st to go to they rode in the transports. When they arrived, Rex was instantly on guard. "At ease men," said Anakin all a sudden he went onto his Kness clutching his head. "Anakin" shouted Obi wan, his voice full of worry. "I am fine, but I saw a twi'lek . "a twi'lek?" asked Obi wan, according to the scans there is only one life form, it is presumable that it is count Dooku. "I don't know" replied Anakin, then Obi wan and Anakin fell on their knees and they both saw the kid. "It is a female," said Anakin. "Welcome master Kenobi, Skywalker" a voice says behind them
"Dooku" said Anakin alighting his blue light saber, beside him Obi wan also ignited his blade. Anakin turned back to the clones, "Rex stays here just in case droids come here, we will meet you here once we deal with Count Doku. After he said that Dooku turned and ran towards one of the buildings, Obi wan and Anakin chased after him. Suddenly they heard blaster fire, the clones looking toward the sound they saw a black and red Twi'lek running away from the droids. "Kid it is not safe here" shouted Rex with fear in his voice. The kid did not answer, instead running faster, a blaster went off headed toward the kid but just before it was going to hit her, she turned the corner, the blaster missing her. "Come on men," Rex shouts before shooting at the droids that are pursuing the kid. She gets pushed into a corner with the droids surrounding her. "nooo" shouts the kid with fear in her eyes, putting her hands in front of her face as if to protect herself. Suddenly the droids around her got destroyed and the pieces fell to the ground.
She looks out from her hands to see the clones are coming from. Suddenly the clones behind him get pushed into the wall knocking them out on impact. "Hey hey, it's ok we won't hurt you" Rex said throwing his blaster to the ground and holding his hands above his head. He gestures toward where Kix is and Kix drops his gun and holds his hand up as well. Slowly making sure that the kid can see what he is doing, he slowly takes off his helmet and says "see we are not droids I know that we look all the same with our Armour on, but I assure you that we are not droids" while holding a handout, the kid looks at it and reaches out her hand out when a droid comes around the corner and shoots at her, the kid retracts her hand and jumps onto a wall which has a hole in it, and she runs away. "Captain Rex should we chase after her" asks Smokey after he shot the b one battle droid, who was one of the clones that got pushed into the wall.
Looking around him he sees that all the other clones are up and are looking at him, addressing them he states "no we don't want to scare her more than she already is" he pushes his commlink "yes what is it captain Rex I am kind of busy now. Rex can hear lightsabers clashing against each other, "we found the girl that both you and Obi wan saw, but she ran away, and we do not know where she is" "ok Rex find and protect her there are a lot of droids here and we do not want her to get hurt." "That is not a problem general" said Rex with a chuckle, "She is force sensitive" he does not get an answer, nor does he hear the lightsabers anymore. But he knows that Anakin got the message. "Alright men spread out and take out all the droids that you see along your way, but if you see the girl try and get her over here, but do not drag or corner her in order to do that" he finished. "Sir yes sir" came the responses from the different men
"They won't have to look far to find the kid" stated Kix. Puzzled Rec looked at Kix with a what are you talking about look on his face. "look" said Kix pointing, Rex looked at where he was pointing, he sees a pair of black and red lekku before they vanished behind one of the abandoned buildings. Rex can feel a sad expression on his face. Turning to Kix he says, "lets pretended that we do not know that she is there and see what she does." "alright" said Kix sitting on the ground, Rex joins him on the ground. "So, what should we talk about to appear to be busy then Rex" asks Kix. Out of the corner of their eyes they can see that the kid is hesitantly getting closer. "Take off your helmet Rex" says Kix as he is taking his helmet off. Rex does what he says knowing that she will feel safer knowing that they look different
Sure enough, Kix's plan works, and the kid is standing right in front of them. Rex gets an idea while looking at the severely malnourished kid. Moving slowly so that the kid can see what he is doing and has time to react. He reaches into a compartment in his glove and pulls out a ration bar. "Hey kid you must be hungry huh?" he says softly and kindly, while he is holding out the bar to the kid. She still looks hesitant. A noise behind him draws his attention. "Hey, it is perfectly safe to eat see" ask Kix while he is saying that he got a ration bar out and making sure that the girl can see what she is doing he takes a bite out of it. The girl slowly raises the bar to move and ever so slowly takes the smallest bite that Rex and Kix have ever seen anyone eat. "Is it good" inquired Rex, she slowly nods her head, but when she bends her neck to take another bite Rex and Kix can both see a bruise on the back of her neck in the shape of a b1 battle droids' hand. Rex without thinking reaches out a hand as if to touch or to sooth the girl. But he retracts it as soon as she turns her gaze to him.
"Hey, it is ok we won't hurt you" said Kix with a sad smile on his face. "Come on kid lets go see if we can't get some wound healing cream on that bruise when we get back to the ship" The girl just slowly nods before standing. Rex and Kix pick up their helmets before putting them back on their heads, they start moving forward towards the ship, but after a few steps Rex realizes that the girl is not behind them. Turning around he finds that the girl has not moved at all. "Hey, is everything ok kid"? He asks with concern in his voice. She looks up from the ground and Rex can see that there are tears in her eyes. "Rex looks at her legs" says Kix with worry in his voice. When Rex looks down at her legs and he sees blood covering her pants. Rex slowly walks towards her and kneels beside her. "Hey, is it ok if I pick you up and carry you to the ship because it is obvious that you cannot walk because you are in so much pain" she nods slowly, and Rex puts his two-blaster pistols in the holsters and slowly and carful picks up the kid.
He puts a smile on his face while he walks toward the ship. Suddenly, the kid Burries her head in the side of Rex's neck. His smile turns into a frown, he looks down at her and asks her what is wrong, but she does not respond. Suddenly Dooku shows up behind them. "you" he shouts angerly "I told you what would happen if you went with anyone but me and the droids and what do I see, I see you spending time together with clones, you disobeyed me well you know the punishment for that is death" after he finishes speaking Dooku launches at them raising his two lightsabers. The kid whispers a timid "no" before Dooku gets shoved back his light sabers flying from his hands. He got back up quickly though and lifts his hand to summon his blades, but they stay on the ground. Stunned he looks to the kid "so you just now use the force you little brat, and it must have been you who destroyed the b1- droids and the battle droids". The brick building behind him gets destroyed but the bricks come off and surround Dooku, thus entrapping him, he uses the force to shove them off, but more bricks come to replace them. "Captain Rex" shouts Anakin with a voice full of worry. Rex takes his eyes off the bricks and turns toward Anakin and Obi wan. "Yes generals" he says, 'I Assume that the bricks are holding Dooku, and I also assume that it is because of this young lady, am I correct captain Rex"? asked a curious Obi wan
The girl, curious about the new voice, turns her head but is unaware of how Anakin is looking at her and looks at Obi wan. "Hello little one, my name is Obi wan Kenobi and the man beside me is Anakin sky Walker, may we know your name." He asks, the kid just looks at Obi wan, but he can see the fear in her eyes, he reassures her by saying with a smile, "that's ok you do not have to tell us your name since it is clear to us that you are not conferrable with that." "We should get back to the ship and inform the council of these new developments," said Anakin. The kid looks at him before getting scared and burying her head into Rex's neck and starts crying, her small body trembling. Anakin, shocked by this, reaches out a hand, but the girl flinches away, holding tighter to Rex's neck. "I think that the reason that she is scared is one, you are wearing dark colored robes like what Dooku has on and two you have a robotic hand, and we have reason to believe that droids and count Dooku are the people who hurt her" stated Kix. "Well Anakin "looks like I am her favorite Anakin, now let us head back to the ship and get out of here." Said Obi wan looking at the scared Twi 'lek. 'All right men let us move" Rex commands
Rex heads back to the ship once he arrives, he sits on one of the benches and lets out a sigh. The kid upon hearing this looks up at him. "it's ok kid," said Rex. He looks up to see Kix standing in front of the kid with a med kit in his hand, Kix kneels and gently places a hand on her shoulder to get her attention. She turns her head towards him, he lifts the med kit and says gently, "hey kid I need to treat your injuries will you let me treat them?" she slowly nods and Kix says ok. He places the med kit on the ground beside him and opens it upon seeing her curiously looking at it he turns it to the right side so that she can see what is in it. He gets out the wound cream and gets the lid off addressing the wounded kid he says, "this is wound cream and we put it on bruises or wounds to help heal them, will you allow me to put it on all of your bruises?" The kid slowly nods, but her eyes are watching Kix as he dips two fingers into the cream.
"Rex" Kix says "can you move her head so I can have clear access to her neck" Rex nods and gently moves her head with his right arm as soon as his hand is on her head, her hands fly to clutch that arm as if to shove that am away. "it's okay kid, we won't hurt you, we are just helping your bruises to heal" Rex says. Unkown to the kid Kix has stopped moving and is now looking at Rex. Rex nods and Kix moves to her neck and starts to apply the cream, she flinches at the touch. "Sorry that it is cold kid, it should warm up in a second" Kix says as he starts moving the cream around. The kid lets out a grunt of pain and holds on tighter to Rex every time Kix is brushing up against the bruise. "Sorry kid" Kix softly muttered. "Ok now that that is done let's get to work on the bruises on your right arm." He gets more of the cream and puts a small dollop on each bruise. Rex and Kix can both hear the whimpers of pain coming from her every time Kix is rubbing the cream in.
"I am so sorry that I am causing you pain, but you are being so good and so brave for us" Kix says. Rex looks at her right arm and says, "only one more to go and then you are all done." Rex looks at Kix who is just finishing with the last bruise. Once finished he goes to the med kit and removes the gauze. "Ok kid so what we are doing is put this around all the bruises and it will help with keeping that area clean, that way the cream can do its work" says Kix. The kid looks at Kix and nods but both Rex and Kix can see that her eyes are closing shut. Kix puts gauze on each one of the bruises and when he is done it looks like the gauze is her skin because of how much of it is on her arm. "Rex" "hmm" Rex said looking at him. "That is all I can do on this ship I can do more once we get back to coruscant and I have accesses to the medical lab there" "ok Kix" says Rex "but what should we do with the kid." Rex looks around and is surprised to see the blue of hyperspace. "Well, what we should do is let her sleep, I will get a banket and pillow and I will tell everyone to be quiet so that she can sleep" responds Kix.
"No let me do that" said Rex trying to shift the kid to Kix but the kid wakes up and wraps her arms around Rex's neck. "Well Rex" said Kix with a chuckle. "It would seem that she is more comfortable with you, I think it would be best to keep her with you" he finished. Rex lets out another long sigh before saying "ok." Kix leaves the two of them to get the blanket and pillow. Rex addresses the kid and says "shh it's ok I am not going anywhere; you can sleep I am right here." Almost immediately the kid falls asleep. Rex stares at her for a bit before looking out the ship's window and seeing the blue and white of hyperspace. A couple of minutes later and Rex wakes up when Kix taps him on his shoulder, once he is awake Kix shows him that he has retrieved the blanket and pillow. Rex detaches the kids arms from around his neck and reaches out for the pillow, which he then places on his right knee, then he places the kids head on the pillow before gently putting the blanket over her.
Kix leaves after a moment and Rex watches him leave. He can see Anakin and Obi wan in the distance by the control panels, but they do not approach. Rex leans his head against the wall and gets comfortable. Obi wan and Anakin smile upon seeing that Rex is asleep. Obi wan places a hand on Anakin's shoulder and says "let them sleep Anakin they both clearly need their rest" Anakin nods and together they walk away.
