AN: Enjoy!

Wanda had made sure to keep her trips into civilization to a minimum, since Westview. She would go into town, pick up whatever she needed, and head home to her isolated cabin. It was where she belonged for now, where she would be safe while she learned to control her powers as the Scarlet Witch, and the rest of the world would be safe from her.

At least, that had been Wanda's plan, and it had worked for a few months. Unfortunately, the best laid plans often had ways of being sent awry by unexpected incidents. Incidents such as an undetected gas leak resulting in an explosion in an apartment building on Wanda's shopping day. She heard the boom of the explosion, the roar of the resulting fire, the screams of onlookers.

Wanda took a breath. Surely, there were others on the way who were qualified to help. Surely, this wasn't something that should be left up to her. But Wanda could also hear screams from those still trapped inside the burning building, and she knew she couldn't live with herself if she stood by and did nothing. So, startling those around her, Wanda flew up and into the building through a blown out window.

She never noticed the pair of familiar blue eyes that followed her..

Working quickly, Wanda managed to get quite a few people out of the flaming building and to the safety of fire and ambulance crews arriving below. But despite her powers, which Wanda was doing her best to keep in check, the flames were growing hotter, smoke growing thicker, burning her eyes and her throat. The heat resulted in a second, smaller explosion, and beams collapsed from the roof, trapping Wanda beneath them. She could not see well enough to try and move the beams, hot and sharp and burning her skin. She could hear a child crying, but there was no way she could help it now.

As she grew weaker, coughing and sputtering, a white figure appeared through the smoke, and Wanda thought she was seeing a ghost. Maybe she was.. The ghost of everything her beloved Vision used to be. She'd wondered where he'd ended up, and whether he would catch up with her.

"Kill me, if you like." It hardly mattered now, she was most likely going to die anyway. "But there's a child trapped.. Save them first."

Vision threw the burning beams off of Wanda, and she thought he had ignored her plea, but then, after a moment of what might have been hesitation, rushed off in the direction of the crying child.

Meanwhile, Wanda began to drift in and out of consciousness. The last thing she remembered was the White Vision, standing over her once more. His eyes were almost the same as they used to be..

Wanda woke, startled, probably because she hadn't really been expecting to wake up ever again. She sat up in an unfamiliar bed, realising that there was a mask over her mouth and nose, and as she tried to remove it, realised that her arm and one of her legs were bandaged, and she could also feel bandages beneath her shirt.

"Please keep that on.." Vision, now wearing the human disguise Wanda knew quite well, rushed over, pressing the mask back to her face. "It is hooked up to oxygen, you inhaled quite a bit of smoke. Your burns are not as bad as I expected, but the dressings may need to be changed soon.."

Wanda gulped at the oxygen, realising that it was actually helping, and looked at her apparent savior, wide-eyed and confused.

"You didn't kill me.."

"No.." He looked hurt that that had been her first thought, but he understood. "I didn't."

"Why not?" The hurt expression on the all-too familiar face caused a pang in Wanda's heart, but she couldn't help but feel wary.

"The real Vision would never hurt Wanda Maximoff.." He murmured, turning to leave the room. "I will come back later to change your dressings. Make sure to keep taking the Oxygen.."

Too sore and weak to do much else, Wanda waited like Vision had asked. She was quite confused about what exactly was going on.

Vision had tried to kill her in Westview, hadn't he? Why was he helping her now? Not having the energy to dwell on this too much, Wanda let herself drift to sleep, waking when Vision returned with some water, antiseptic, and fresh bandages.

"I.. I need to change your bandages now."

"Alright.."

He was gentle as he removed the existing bandages on her arm and carefully cleaned the wounds, although Wanda winced slightly at the sting.

"Sorry.." Vision murmured. "Although, you are quite lucky these burns weren't worse.." He re-bandaged Wanda's arm, and moved on to her leg.

"Yes, I suppose so.." This was so odd. Here she was, with the person she had once loved so much, and yet things were so very awkward, and complicated, and she was still dazed and in pain and not entirely sure what exactly was going on. "Why.. Why did you help me? Why did you bring me here."

"Because you needed help, and you would have been arrested if I took you to the hospital.." said Vision matter of factly. "If you hadn't been in trouble, I wouldn't have come near you at all."

"Why not?"

"I think you know exactly why not, Wanda" He seemed suddenly haunted, ashamed. But the way he still said her name..

"Vision.." A lump formed in Wanda's throat.

"I need you to turn over" He cut her off before she could say anymore. "The last one is on your back.."

"Oh.. right.." Wanda carefully turned, wincing slightly, and blushed when she realised that Vision had probably needed to take her shirt off to treat the burn initially.

Vision carefully pushed up Wanda's shirt and removed the old bandage, cleaning and treating it as gently as he had with the others.

"Don't worry. As soon as you are well, you can go home, and you will never have to think or worry about me again."

Wanda chuckled, but it was a dark, sad sort of chuckle.

"Oh, that's funny. And also the most infuriating thing you have ever said."

"Why?" Vision asked, confused.

"That you think I won't have to think about you" She turned her head to look at him. Her eyes were watering, but it had nothing to do with the sting of the antiseptic. "I'm always fucking thinking about you. If I'm not thinking about my kids, I'm thinking about you. Where you are, how you're doing, what S.W.O.R.D did to you, If I could have stopped it.."

"Wanda.."

"I play it over and over in my head, the day I went to S.W.O.R.D HQ.." Wanda pulled the oxygen mask from her face to keep it from muffling her voice, tears streaming down her cheeks. "Everything I should have done differently. I shouldn't have left you there, I should have.." she collapsed into a series of coughing fits between her words, "I should have felt deeper.. Tried.. Tried harder to.. To bring you back myself.. To wake.. Wake you.."

"Wanda!" Vision panicked as she coughed, rushing over to turn her back over and press the oxygen mask back to her face. "Please stop, you'll make yourself sick. Just calm down, breathe."

"Ok-Kay.. okay.."

"Listen to me" He cupped Wanda's cheek, gazing into her eyes.

"I'm listening.." Wanda leaned into his touch, unable to stop herself, even after what had happened last time.

"There is nothing you did wrong, and nothing I would have wanted you to do differently. I didn't want anyone to bring me back. And.. what happened in Westview.. what I almost did to you.. is exactly the reason why" Vision jerked his hand away from Wanda's face as if she had burned him, but really, he was more worried about burning her. He moved to hurry out of the room.

"Vision.." Wanda tried to call after him. "Vizh, wait.."

"I have only ever wanted what is best for you, Wanda.." He whispered, hovering in the doorway with his back to her. "I am not what I was, and I am uncertain if I can ever be that again. So, I believe the best thing for you is to move on, and simply keep your memories of who Vision use to be.."

He left the room, leaving a slightly confused Wanda behind. She had been frightened when Vision attacked her in Westview, that was true. But Vision hadn't given up on Wanda when she had hurt him.

So, she decided, she could not give up on Vision, eithe
