AN: Enjoy!

For the next few days, Vision continued to treat Wanda's burns and change her bandages. He would bring her food and drink, and help her to the bathroom when she needed. He even helped her undress for the shower and redress afterwards, which felt much less awkward than it perhaps should have been.

Wanda often tried to talk to him when he entered the room in which she was staying, or when she leaned into him on the way to the bathroom, but Vision did not seem open to conversation, answering any of her queries in sharp, short replies.

Vision did not speak this way to be cruel, and it was not because he didn't want to talk to Wanda. He wanted to talk to her more than anything, wanted to tell her just how sorry he was for what he had done, how sorry he was for the things she had lost. But Vision knew that if he did really speak to Wanda, and she spoke back to him.. If he let himself listen to her voice, hear her laugh, see her smile..

He would want more.

Vision would want to gaze into her sparkling green eyes, and run his fingers through her hair. He would want to hold her close, and kiss her soft lips. He would want to carry her to bed, worship her body with his hands and his mouth. He would want to bury himself inside her, whisper just how much he loved her as he helped her find bliss.

He would ask her to stay.

And if the way she had so easily leaned into Vision's touch on the night she arrived was anything to go by, Wanda would say yes.

As much as Vision wanted all of those things, as much as his synthetic heart ached for them, Vision could not allow it. He had hurt her, and had no way of knowing he wouldn't do so again. He was no longer Wanda's safe place. She deserved so much better.

After a couple of days, Wanda no longer needed extra oxygen, and a few weeks after that, her burns began to heal. She could walk fine on her own, no longer really needing Vision's help to get to the bathroom, but let him help her anyway, as these were the only moments of closeness with him allowed to her.

Vision had realised this, and yet, despite his own concerns, he couldn't bring himself to give up that brief time either. But this could not go on forever. All he cared about was keeping Wanda safe. If he wanted her to be safe, then she could not be near him.

"I suppose you will be leaving soon.." He said one afternoon, after he had helped her back to her room.

"I suppose so.." Wanda sat on the edge of the bed. She didn't need to actually remain in bed anymore at this point, but she didn't feel comfortable just wandering around Vision's apartment. Not because she didn't feel safe around him, but because she didn't think he would be comfortable, and she did not want to mess with the fragile peace of their current arrangement.

"I imagine it will be nice, going home, sleeping in your own bed.."

"You mean my lonely old cabin in the middle of nowhere, that feels absolutely nothing like what a home should be?" Wanda mumbled. "Sure. It's great."

"You.. You will not always be alone. Maybe you will meet someone, and.."

"I live alone, miles away from anyone or anything" Wanda snapped. "I only come into town to pick up supplies, and I don't talk anymore than I absolutely have to to get things done, and, oh yeah, I'd get arrested if I didn't hide my identity when I'm out. How the hell do you think I'd meet someone, Vision? Dating apps don't exactly cater to deranged witches who are still hung up on their supposed-to-be-dead synthezoid Ex.."

"You are not deranged, Wanda" Vision recoiled, a little hurt at being referred to as her ex.. Yet, that was probably better than allowing her to believe there was still any sort of future for them. "I.. I'm sorry if I upset you. I only meant.. You do not deserve to be.."

At the look on Vision's face, Wanda's expression softened.

"No.. I'm sorry I snapped. That was mean. Just.. 'finding someone' is at the bottom of my list of priorities right now" Wanda sighed. "My powers. I don't understand them yet. I'm not sure If I can control them completely, or whether something like Westview could happen again.. It's in everyone's best interest that I stay away.

"It is difficult.." Vision murmured, sitting beside her without really thinking about it. "Having something dark and dangerous within you that you cannot understand, or control.."

"Yeah.. it is."

They sat in silence for a very long while. Then Wanda shuffled closer, and slowly, shyly reached out, taking Vision's hand. When he didn't object, Wanda shuffled closer still, laying her head on his shoulder.

Vision should have stopped her, should have pushed her away. For her own good, he should have. But, he could not bring himself to do so. It was so nice, so right having her close again, even if it could only be for a little while. So, instead of pushing Wanda away, Vision instead stamped down the nasty little voice in the back of his head, the same one he'd been holding back for weeks, the one whispering that Wanda Maximoff must be destroyed.

When he didn't push her away, Wanda lifted her head to look at him. When he still didn't push her away, she reached up to cup his cheeks, pulled him closer, and kissed him.

Vision should have stopped her then, but instead he kissed her back.

He didn't stop her when she deepened the kiss, or pulled him even closer.

Didn't stop her when her hands started to roam, because his did too.

He didn't stop her when their clothes started to disappear, tossed haphazardly around the room.

It was only when Wanda was laying back, pulling him on top of her, that Vision tried to bring himself back to his senses. This was a bad idea, he really shouldn't.. oh, but she was so beautiful, and he loved her, so much.. But even now, the infuriating little voice still whispered, and if he hurt her, he would never forgive himself.

"Wanda.." He swallowed thickly, "I.. we.. I don't think.."

Wanda clung to him tightly before he could pull away from her, her soft green eyes welling up with tears.

"Please, Vizh" She begged him. "Let me have this. Just once. Even if it's goodbye. Let me have one good thing to hang onto.."

Vision's synthetic heart shattered, and he pushed the hated voice away, to the deepest, darkest recesses of his mind. One good thing, he could give her that. He loved her too much to say no.

Vision kissed Wanda's tears away. Kissed her lips, her chin, her neck. Kissed her collarbone, her shoulders, her breasts and her belly, every bit of skin he could reach, carefully working around her healing burns. Revelled in the soft, contented sighs that escaped Wanda's throat at each gentle brush of his lips.

Wanda tugged at him, so Vision kissed his way back up, until he reached her lips. As he kissed her once more, deeply, passionately, with every ounce of love for her that he possessed, Wanda wrapped her legs around his hips, and Vision let himself slip inside her, both of them moaning as he did so.

He fit so perfectly, like they were made for each other, like he belonged.

Vision slowly rocked his hips, not wanting to rush, needing to take his time, if this one last time was really all they had left. Wanda moved with him, matching his pace, peppering her own soft kisses wherever she could reach.

They were in beautiful, perfect sync, as they had always been.

The most gorgeous little sounds were escaping Wanda's throat, mingling with Vision's own moans. He had always loved those sounds, loved that he was the one to draw them from her.

And as they rose together, towards bliss that felt somehow like oblivion, because it would mean an ending that neither one of them really wanted, Vision's heart broke even more.

How could he say goodbye, when all he wanted was to hold her close?

How could he say goodbye, when what he really wanted was forever?

Wanda cried out his name, jerking beneath him as she came, and Vision soon followed, crying out her name in return.

As they each came down from their high, Vision reached to cup Wanda's cheek, gazing into her eyes, and he gazed right back, leaning into his touch, and he knew that forever without her was not an option.

But there was still the matter of that voice in his head, the one he fought so hard to silence. There were things he needed to do.

"I.. I have to leave.." Vision rolled off of her.

"Oh.." Wanda recoiled from him, hurt, and sat up, grabbing the sheets to cover herself. "Okay.. I guess that's what we agreed.. One last fling.."

"That's not what I meant at all" said Vision hurriedly. "I don't want this to be our last anything, Wanda. I've realised, I don't want a life without you in it.. But Hayward's programming is still buried somewhere inside me. If I want my life with you, I have to find some way to get rid of it. I cannot promise that you will be safe with me until I do."

"Oh.." Wanda's gaze softened. "Where will you go?"

"I'm not sure.." Vision thought. "Wakanda, maybe? Shuri may still have my brain scans on file.."

"That makes sense. Can.."

"No, you cannot come with me. I just said, it is not.."

"That wasn't what I was asking.." Wanda cut him off. "Just.. can you hold me for a while, before you go?"

"Oh.." Vision shifted closer, pulling her into his arms. "Of course.."

"And when you are safe.." Wanda leaned against him, content for the first time in a long while, "You'll come find me?"

"Yes.. I am already looking forward to that day."

"Me too.."
