SAN QUENTIN PRISON
Eddie is riding along on his motorcycle towards the prison. Shortly after his little expose on Drake and the Life Foundation. He'd been sent for a new follow up story at the request of the very inmate that he was sent her to interview. One that is one of the most notorious and psychopathic serial killers in America maybe even almost history sometimes Eddie wonders if this guy as a distant relation to Jack 'The Ripper'. The convicted killer himself is Cletus Kasady a soulless, heartless, careless, devil of a man that's one and only soul joy in this world is chaos and a unsatisfied lust for blood, destruction, and above all the death of his victims at his hands. After forty years of fulfilling his only purpose of killing thousands all across the country Kasady was finally caught and convicted and sentenced to life in prison.
Up until now he's been quieter than a sloth but now he's finally come forth wanting to spill the beans for some reason, and if there's one thing Eddie's learned in his time of interviewing serial killers is that they don't really need a reason they just want the attention, hopefully it wasn't one of those time because he hated wasting perfectly good miles on his bike for something as stupid as that. After going through the pat down and registration process he was brought into the restricted solitary cell block reserved for only the worst of the worst.
Walking alongside the guard Eddie was just getting his pen and paper ready.
"You ask me it's dumb to let him call the shots!"
"The second he asked for you to interview him I'd have shut that shit down!" The guard comments.
"Well you know the FBI and Police are taking advantage of the one and only time that he'll ever speak to anyone." Eddie clarifies.
"Their hoping I might help them identify some additional bodies from the more recent murders, and possibly even get the location of his previous victims that they've been looking for, for about 10 years now." Eddie explains.
"The FBI don't work up close and personal with him, the FBI will identify you if you don't follow the rules!" The guard warns pointing his finger at Eddie.
They come to the end of the long hallway and the guard unlocks the door opening it to reveal a checkpoint security door and then a small prison cell in the center of the room that would be more accurately described as a cage.
"Hey red, I got a visitor for ya!" The guard yells out to the man. Who has a curly mop of dark red hair.
The guard opens the gate door and closes it behind him taking a seat in a chair looking at his phone.
On the wall inside the cage written in squished food is the words 'WELCOME EDDIE'.
Eddie takes a few steps into the room and stops with the door closing behind him.
The man in the cage freezes and slowly turns to reveal with a crazy smile that would give any other person chills up their spines and a series of bad vibes. Beholding Cletus Kasady the bastard of the Devil born to raise Hell on earth.
"Hi Eddie." Cletus greets.
Eddie sarcastically smiles and waves, "Hey!" He responds.
"Do you mind if we forego the whole creepy serial killer thing?" Cletus asks semi serious.
Eddie nods, "Sure that's good with me." He agrees.
"I mean I can turn it on if you want, I can talk about the Dadaist patterns of arterial spray." Cletus joyfully gleams.
"I bet you can." Eddie responds.
"But all I really want to talk about first is my son, who doesn't seem to be taking my calls anymore, and for some reason he doesn't stop by to check in with me either." Cletus says giving a almost genuine skeptical look that says he really doesn't know why his son doesn't see him anymore.
Eddie lightly scoffs before returning to his former posture. "Yeah well you did spend quite a few years of his life torturing him and abusing him before you two were separated, otherwise I can't think of anything else your kid might be holding against you." Eddie truthfully says with a bit of sarcasm in the end.
Cletus shakes his head in disbelief at the memories of all of the 'lessons' he gave his little boy and how he just didn't want to learn what he had to offer, so resistant.
"Unfortunately my boy just didn't seem to accept who he is and what he's suppose to be, and he still doesn't." Cletus says regretfully or at least what is a cheap copy for regret as far as his insanity goes.
"Well you know kids these days?" Eddie says.
"It's tough to see you in this light Eddie, come on over?" Cletus asks.
Eddie sighs, "Alright, I'm here!" He says after taking a few steps forward closer to the cage and stops right in front.
"It might be too late for me now, but day my son will embrace his destiny, he'll discover who he truly is, when he does, and he will, there's gonna be CARNAGE!" Cletus states giving an evil smirk.
Dr. Reyes' black and silver diamond emblem pin is on the cold tiled floor a pair of black boots appeared in either side of it as a hand reaches down picking it up to reveal a man decked out all in black and has the same diamond emblem himself on his vest. He looks at the pin blankly before turning to leave the room.
Outside is a bunch of armed men with machine guns with the same attires searching the grounds of the trashed buildings and rubble only coming up with Reyes' remains and bloody clothes.
The man with the pin walks outside the building looking to the others as he is the obvious leader.
Grabbing the phone out of his pocket dialing a number and connecting on the other.
"Reyes has been eliminated, the facility has been destroyed, and the subjects are missing." He says.
UNKNOWN LOCATION
On the other end is a woman with her dark hair in a bun and wearing a grey secretary suit and glasses.
"I'll notify Dr. Essex." The woman says hanging up the line.
She walk out of her office and down a long hall way. She stops arriving at a tough looking door.
She straightens out her glasses and enters in the passcode, then puts her hand up to a biometric hand scanner scanning her hand print, lastly she tilts her glasses down for a retinal scan. The door unlocks to reveal a room that is nearly pitch black with a series of monitors giving the only light in the room out of the darkness. In a chair facing the monitors is a man tapping his fingers together under his chin whose eyes are slowly roaming over the screens showing his pale complexion. On the screens themselves is young children, mutants and older adults some observing them using their powers, others abusing or punishing the kids with prods and tasers, or even their fists.
The woman slowly approaches until she is only about a yard away from the man in the chair who still hasn't acknowledged her presence.
She opens her mouth to speak but before she can get so much as a single word out. "What is it Ms. Rictor?" The man asks lowly not moving one but which seems to scare her a little.
The woman now known as Ms. Rictor pushes her glasses up and clears her throat, "Sorry to bother you Dr. Essex, but our containment squadron just notified that…"
"Dr. Reyes is dead isn't she?" Essex throws out there.
Ms. Rictor once again looks shocked, "Yes sir she is the team was only able to find a few of her remaining limbs and some blood, the facility itself is practically destroyed sir and the mutant subjects have gone missing along with the alien and its host subject as well."
There is a small chuckle from Essex, "Good!" He simply says.
This brings a confused look to Ms. Rictor's face, "Excuse me sir?"
"I've watched at least ten generations of mutants come and go through our doors Ms. Rictor and it's always the same, and now for the first time in the existence of this corporation that I started I finally found a group of mutants that have proven to be different from the rest of the others, ones that have will, strength, integrity, and above all…power!" Essex explains to her.
Ms. Rictor looks down to her iPad in her hands, "Well as I was saying sir given they've escaped I took the liberty of tracking down any of Dr. Reyes' personal items that might have been of use to them. And sure enough about almost a month ago around when she first ceased contact with us I found out that there were several charges made in the nearest town from the facility in Laytonville one charge to a Hotel and then another for 6 Bus tickets to San Francisco, also reading some of the reports from a few weeks back of some of the security workers at the Life Foundation headquarters after its collapse in San Francisco described a group of kids with freakish abilities, this has to be them sir, should I send a recovery team immediately to the city to retrieve them?" Ms. Rictor asks.
Essex puts a hand up on the side of his chair halting her, "No! Not yet at least, the one thing you have yet to understand Ms. Rictor is that this is merely a game to us all that requires a matter of patience on our part, with moves and countermoves, they've made their move and we've made ours, and now all we need to do is wait for them to make their next move." Essex explains amusedly putting his hand down.
"And when they do sir then what?" Ms. Rictor asks genuinely curious.
Essex reaches over onto the chair's control consul hitting a button, and the chair slowly turns to face her on it's own revealing himself in the appearance of a vampirish collar, and a pale white skin monochrome complexion, short dark hair and a red diamond emblem on his forehead and on his chest. "I don't know, but I can assure you it'll be something….SINISTER!" He says chuckling and smiling evilly.
