Song: The sound of silence - Disturbed's version

Enjoy!

Backstage was a mess. Kids were getting in and out of costumes. Some were arguing, others still tried to practice, it was chaos. Yes, Anna felt happy. She loved crazy, she functioned well in crazy.

"Get these kids some mics, Eugene! Ariel, the decorations look amazing! Eric, dude those lights need to change color for the next set!" Anna yells as she ticks off a few things on her clipboard.

Why the adults thought it was okay for kids to do this was beyond her, but nothing surprises her any more with this town. She's started accepting things.

She smiles as the next group goes on. There had been a lot of dancers and singers with the odd magic trick here and there. Her smile slowly drops as she reads the next talent on the list.

Elsa Arendelle – singing

Elsa had been acting weird the last week. She was silent and kept to herself. There were dark circles under her eyes and she looked mostly like death. When Anna did talk to her, in her usual snarky way, Elsa would startle a bit and excuse herself.

Anna did ask Rapunzel about her, but the brunette could only shrug. She told her that Mulan had her working extra to make up for her attitude.

They both agreed it was a little too harsh, with the girl still needing to attend school and all. There was nothing they could do about it though.

Anna takes a deep breath and goes to look for her. She was getting worried, but the girl managed to stumble in from the dressing room.

"There you are, you have 2 minutes then you're up," Anna said as Elsa just nodded and checked her clothing. Dark circles were still under the girl's eyes and she looked worried. Anna notices that she must have just come from a job, there were bandages sticking out from under her shirt, before it was covered by Elsa pulling herself right.

"Elsa, are you sure you want to go up? We could just remove you, you look tired," Anna says, trying her very best to be professional here.

"I need to do this Anna, I need to be me for once," Elsa almost pleads and Anna just sighs as she steps to the side. Eugene explains to her, her set up as Anna watches for a moment. Elsa was the last one up so she stood to the side so she could watch once she went on.

Darkness floods the room as a spotlight turns on, focused on the platinum blonde. Anna gasps softly as she sees a rather familiar fox mask covering the girl's face. Elsa looks from left to right slowly before removing it to rest on top of her head just as the music starts. Her voice was like heaven to the redhead's ears, making a shiver run up her spine and her body to erupt into goosebumps.

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence

Anna hasn't heard this song from a female before, but Elsa's naturally husky voice just makes it seem so right.

Elsa felt energy flood her veins and tingled at her fingertips. she's felt this every time she's used her powers now, but this was stronger. Could it be because she was doing the singing? Because she was on a stage? This felt more powerful than the innocent songs she's made others sing so far...she needed to be careful, but the words kept spilling from her lips.

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone
'Neath the halo of a street lamp
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of a neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence

Elsa raised her hand to block out the spotlight that was on her and when she moved her hand to the side she felt her heart rate speed up. There was this misty mirage forming over the crowd. Sunlight seemed to pour from it and she saw the few Kitsune she's met and others with them. They had come to see her perform.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more
People talking without speaking
People hearing without listening
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one dared
Disturb the sound of silence

She felt alive, truly alive and it made her bolder. She chose this song for a reason, it's words, they meant so much, especially now.

Fools, said I, you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows
Hear my words that I might teach you
Take my arms that I might reach you
But my words, like silent raindrops fell
And echoed in the wells of silence

She couldn't help it, the energy inside her flowed out of her and seemed to envelope the crowd and everyone backstage. They were in trances to her singing. Hanging on every word that slipped from her lips. The Kitsune watching were smiling and to the side of their glowing presence a greater glow appeared. Elsa's eyes lit up as she saw Inari there, watching, a look of pure pride in her eyes.

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon god they made
And the sign flashed out its warning
In the words that it was forming
And the sign said, the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls
And whispered in the sounds of silence

A hush seemed to fall as the last cord trailed off. The Kitsunes watching clapped as their light faded and closed them off from her world. In the corner of Elsa's eyes she saw Inari beckon her over before her light faded too.

The huntress didn't stay long enough for people to properly come out of their trance before she bolted out of the building, running backstage and out the backdoor.

Only Rapunzel was left mostly unaffected by what Elsa put them under and to her only she remembered what had happened mostly. Everyone else just looked slightly confused.

Elsa ran as fast as her legs could carry her towards the forest that crescent their town. She felt the world around her shift as the path before her opened into the spirit world. The dark forest around her opening into a lighter one. This time she wasn't with the other Kitsunes. In front of her the spirit forest led to an open library.

She's only been there once and the low table with cushions was a calming sight. Inari sat at the end mostly enveloped by the library, a hot pot of tea with some tea cups and saucers already there waiting for them.

"Inari," Elsa breathed slightly. She wasn't out of breath per se, more filled with excitement and relief.

"My dear sweet Elsa, sit please, have some tea," the goddess smiled lovingly. The Kitsune felt warm and happy. She felt at home when she sat down. Something she craved deeply.

"Your performance was amazing for a beginner, my young one," Inari smiled as the tea was poured. The pot floating gently like some invisible person was handling it.

"Thank you, till that moment I wasn't sure what song I'd be singing, I slipped my name in at the last minute," Elsa said as she stroked her tail after it unfurled.

"I did see you playing around with your powers," Inari giggled softly.

"I just...I just want to see what I can do," Elsa said softly, a blush on her cheeks.

"All good and well, just be careful," the goddess smiled as she sipped her tea.

"I'm trying my best, don't worry," Elsa beamed before taking a sip of her tea as well.

"You have grown so much since you discovered yourself, I am very proud," Inari smiled and Elsa felt warmth spread over her.

"If I may inquire about the song?" Inari said after a few minutes of them just enjoying the tea.

"Ah, well...it's a very popular song actually, and mostly it's sung by men, so big shoes to fill, but as for the lyrics...it just fits. I can hear all these songs coming from everyone's hearts and yet it's silent to them," Elsa said softly, toying with her tea cup.

"I understand, I'm very happy to see you accepting yourself more and more each day," Inari smiled and Elsa blushed a little.

"I just wish my parents…" Elsa trailed off. She's not sure what she wants from them anymore. It felt like she didn't even know them.

Elsa blinked as she felt someone sit next to her. She was a little surprised to see Inari had moved to her side and was slowly wrapping an arm around her, some of her tails enveloping her as well.

"Elsa, I will only say this once and I want you to understand, the Arendelle's might be your flesh, but they are not your spirit," Inari says as she gently touches Elsa's chest, over her heart. The huntress felt a bolt of warmth like fire spread through her and a soft blue glow behind her made her turn her head. She watched with bated breath as another tail formed.

"You are one of my daughters and I will always be there to protect and guide you," the goddess finished and Elsa looked up to her with bright blue eyes, tears forming in them.

"As long as you follow the light and stay a Kitsune, but even if you turn into a Nogitsune...just know...I will always love you," Inari said softly. Elsa hugged her close and started to cry. The goddess hugged her back and stroked her hair.

"Oh my little Kogitsune...you have so much sadness, I am so sorry it took your powers so long to manifest," Inari herself sounded sad as she held the huntress to her chest. Elsa just clung to her as she kept sobbing.

"Do not worry, everything will turn out alright, I have faith in you and I am proud of you," Inari said as she held the sniffling girl's face. She stroked her tears away before kissing her forehead. Elsa closed her eyes at the softness of her lips and the warmness of her body. It was all just so wonderful.

When Elsa opened her eyes she was in her home, sitting at her coffee table, a fresh and still hot pot of tea on it with two cups. She rubbed her eyes and took a few deep breaths before smiling.

"Thank you Inari," she said softly and the mask in her hands seemed to glow warmly. she smiled more and hugged it closer. She felt lighter, happier. Of course there will still be more hardships in her life and probably around the corner but...she feels like she can handle them now.

She had Inari and the Kitsunes on her side.

"Elsa? You home?" Rapunzel asks as she stuck her head in from the slightly opened front door.

And Rapunzel, she had her best friend with her too.

"Hi," she said smiling and the brunette relaxed.

"There you are silly, I was worried, you killed the song but unfortunately no one really seems to remember, bummer," she giggled and Elsa could only shrug and smile.

"Join me for tea, Punzy, and I will tell you everything," she said softly and the girl lit up before joining her.

Ya'll my heart...our angry baby girl is getting better.

Just a small thing...um, I am aware that traditional tea ceremonies are done different, like WAY different, but Elsa isn't exactly Japanese and Inari is a goddess so...I went with magic on the pouring and having it very...uh...modern? I'm sorry if that offends someone...I am an avid tea drinker myself and I do like tradition...but yea...

Well with that out the way!

OH!

Kitsune as we know are fox spirits.

Nogitsune are evil fox spirits.

Kogitsune, if anyone was wondering, is a very young or child kitsune...if I have the right info...

Anyway!

Love to hear from ya'll!

Love you!
